Poorly-run organization. The system is not thought through well. They recently acquired the rental storage facility I had previously signed up with in NYC. They changed the platform, deleted my account and changed the access code to enter the facility. All of this was done with-out notification/ email , which feels specifically pathetic in 2023. In addition I was sent a bill for my monthly rent which I was previously subscribed to with autopay. I cannot pay the new bill because I don't have an account with their new platform. I cannot create a new account because they changed my access code and on top of that I am sent another bill with a late fee days after I received the first bill. I find the whole situation ridiculous. What makes it even more ridiculous is that I am not in the country at the moment and would require an email contact to correspond with the team to perhaps rectify all of these issues. You cannot find an email on their website for any inquiries, neither specific nor general. I've chatted with their customer support 'live chat' which was unhelpful entirely and refused to give me any info/help to rectify any issue. They were purposefully avoidant of any questions and refused to provide any contact info. I'm so disappointed. I am now waiting on hold for more than 20 minutes calling internationally. I would not recommend this platform. Go with a service that is more reliable and with more experience with self storage. I know I will! UPDATE: I got a response from this specific storage facility multiple days after I made the initial inquiry with their live chat. They insisted that I pay the late fee and that I was responsible for their negligence. I explained to them that I was on auto-pay and that their company made no effort to notify me that any changes to the billing or payment plan was to be changed upon the platform/company change. They did not notify me that my account would be terminated or that I had to make a new one. They did not respond to that email for over a week. I followed up on the issue after a prolonged lack of response. Upon explanation of this they have said they did the best that they could have however no apology for the mishap nor the difficulty in cooperation. However, they did agree that the late fee would be accredited back to me and have now been forthcoming in finally helping me set up a new account. I think Life Storage should hire additional staff to manage their customer service and help direct specific and unique issues in order to help customers better. I still would not recommend this storage service. I believe that this company will likely not improve their systems and that these types of issues will happen again as they lack the company infrastructure to deal with unique issues.
Horrifying experience. Would give negative stars if possible 1 - The initial quote was $456 for moving, one month of storage, and the protection plan. It was clearly stated during the initial quote that that pick up and drop off were included. However the quoted services ended up costing almost four times that at $1781.3. They tacked on seemingly endless fees and charges for pick up and drop off - charging both an appointment and labor fee for both pick up and drop off that were mentioned nowhere in the initial quote. I would have not used this service if I was properly informed of the actual price. 2 - They broke and scratched multiple items (tables, glasses, artwork), amounting to a greater value than the protection (1k). Also there were several things that weren't damaged but everything was just generally dirty when it was returned to me - even the things packed in boxes. 3 - After I filed multiple claims they agreed to the damages and said they would send me a check in 30 days. This was a month and a half ago and I have still not received this. 4 - They lost a very large piece of furniture and have been unable to locate it - claiming they have "not found any evidence of this item being moved or stored by Clutter", despite me providing a picture of this item in the pile of items they were moving and seeing them place this item in the truck. This leads me to no other conclusion than that they stole my furniture. 5 - They erroneously charged me for a "packing appointment", which tacks on even more additional fees, claiming that they retrieved items from multiple rooms. This is untrue, as all of the items were packed by me and piled by the door prior to the appointment. I have a picture that I sent to them of this - however they denied this, insisted they went to multiple rooms, and would not change the appointment type. 6 - I have a limited amount of stuff (in a studio - so just one room's worth - 12 boxes, a few suitcases, and some lighter furniture like chairs and tables). It was all packed prior to Clutter arriving, and in one pile right next to the door. However the movers took five hours to move it out of my apartment. I eventually just started doing it for them because they were going so slowly. TLDR; Paid 4x what I was quoted for them to break and lose my items. Working with Clutter was hell.
Awhile back I wrote a review of this company because my husband and I as well as my daughter utilized them for storage and moving. We had originally dealt with MakeSpace and had a great experience when the pickup people arrived and packed up all of our belongings, which is why I believe most people give them a 5 star rating, but somewhere after they took them to the warehouse and then asked for their return, a myriad of items were either lost or broken. It is really disheartening as well as frustrating to spend several thousand dollars on storing broken or missing items. Their whole fee structure changed when they were bought out by Clutter and thus the reason for our asking for the items return. We still have not been reimbursed for the missing and broken items, even though it has been a few months, and from what I understand whatever we receive will be pennies on the dollar. Today we received an email from Clutter stating that they had found a few of our missing items and wanted to deliver them. Again, the delivery people were very amenable and by the book. They asked me to give them a great review and I told them that my previous experience had been horrible with the company, even though I was pleased with them, so it's hard for me to give them kudos. As part of the discussion, the delivery people told me that the company is trying to resolve the issues they've had in the past now that they are under new management. Evidently, the issue isn't with pickup and delivery - it starts once it gets to the warehouse. I can only imagine what is going on there. Is it possible that the employees at the warehouse just throw/jam things into the bins without trying to keep them safe and intact? How is it possible that so many items can get lost when they wrap and label everything? The delivery person asked me to reach out to the management of Clutter and voice my concerns. If those individuals check google reviews, consider yourselves informed since I don't have their contact information. I would not recommend your company to anyone.
Facility is infested with mice. I rented out a 10x8x5 room and I went back 1 month later and found hundreds of mouse droppings. Since I am 100% certain there was no food in my storage space, there's no way that i could have caused this issue. management offered me a different room, but no guarantee that it would be mouse free. switching rooms wasn't a viable option for me because my room was filled to the brim and I would need help and 8+ hours to move everything from one room to another. That was the only "solution" they had to offer. as you can see from the pictures, I found mouse carcasses and all of my furniture is caked in mouse urine. This is disgusting. Apart from that, some of the staff is more helpful and professional than others. I had an employee claim she was a manager and call me to essentially scold me and shift all of the blame and responsibility to me. Only because I politely mentioned in an email that since I felt nobody was willing to work with me, I'd go on yelp. I went so far as to mention that I'd much rather leave positive feedback than negative feedback, but I feel that part of my message wasn't read as loudly and clearly as others. It was clear after a few minutes of speaking to her that she was neither a manager nor had she any intention of working with me to form a compromise. Her sole purpose was to bully me out of writing on yelp. Writing on yelp isn't illegal last time I checked, and unlike what she probably expects, I haven't told horrible exaggerated lies. I've given a brief account of the bullet points. I'm not saying everyone will have a bad experience, but I will say that if i'd known about the mouse situation and the fact that it's not 24 hour access and the fact that the "managers" weren't very helpful AND it's more expensive than a place in brooklyn, I would have made a different choice. Some of the staff there are genuinely helpful and wonderful. but whoever called me was the very definition of unprofessional.
I am not one to write reviews but feel obligated to do so after my recent experiences with Clutter. PLEASE do not use Clutter. They use predatory practices, hold your possessions hostage, and have zero customer service. To make a long story short, they doubled our original quote, even after we packed substantially less than expected. They are now creating roadblocks in our attempts to get our stuff back, holding us hostage and forcing us to sign a contract that we never agreed to. They blame customers for a breakdown in their technology and processes. The website claims you have access to your belongings at all times... You won't. Rarely is there someone to speak to over the phone. They use "claims" and a "trust and safety" team as a front, neither "solution" actually does anything or results in a resolution. Check the BBB and Twitter, unfortunately, I am not the only one experiencing these concerns.
For your own sake, don't use this company and believe every word of the negative reviews you see here. They are negligent in the handling of personal items during the moving and storing process. Photos attached below of the moving boxes they returned to me after only two months of storage (boxes their team packed) - crushed, open and boxes contained holes. They damage large items and refuse to fairly compensate in order fully fix and/or replace (they in essence totaled my $1600 couch, understand that they damaged by couch which they said in writing and only offered me $250 though I had paid for coverage up to $2500 through Clutter). I'm still attempting to ask for a fair resolution from their Trust and Safety Lead who I've escalated the issue to for weeks at this point but am worried a case in small claims (what an absolute nightmare) is the only option.
Do not use this service/website. I used them and the movers scratched the hell out of my hardwood floors and then the Clutter claims department declined to pay for the damage despite immediately contacting them while the movers were still there. They refused to get on the phone with me and their supervisor and just in the chat box told me to file a claim which they then denied. They also during the move increased the price of my storage and the move despite me telling them exactly how much stuff i was moving on the website before hand. Highly unprofessional. They try to save money by forcing you through their "online" service center and really end up just being completely disconnected from their customers.
I wanted to like this service but unfortunately their customer service is terrible. First they rescheduled an appointment I already had reserved and did not offer any compensation for the change. All we received was an apology for the inconvenience. Then when I tried to close out my storage unit they offered ZERO accommodations to get my appointment scheduled soonest and made it near impossible to speak to someone on the phone. The earliest I could get an appointment scheduled was 6 calendar days out and I'm moving. Ridiculous. Only after sitting in an online chat session for nearly an hour was I FINALLY able to have someone call me and they offered zero help. Save yourself the headache! Shop elsewhere!!!
This company has caused me nothing but pain and frustration. You call there is no really person to actually answer. You leave a message nobody call you back, you start a chat, the rep leaved the chat. you ask for management, nobody answers.. not to mention the lack f transparency in pricing when they took over make space. They charge you a month in advance so when you take your stuff out at the end of your cycle they will charge you again and do not prorate..even though the goods were out. I have been going in circles, asking for help, trying to get a time scheduled.. I am so worried abut my belongings... this is a nightmare. HOW DO I REACH A MANGER, WHO CAN ACTUALLY HELP ME CLUTTER???
I have never never never experience such a bad customer experience. Clutter has lost my mattress (after paying for 2 years almost 300 dollars/month on storage). The worst part is that I’m sleeping on the floor and no-one from Clutter seems to care. I have received no credit-no refund. I have been calling/chatting with the customer service team at least 2/3 times every day. Nothing. No solution. Just to wait more days. I have never felt like this before. Unbelievable. Don’t waste your time, money and energy with this company. Any other storage company is better, even if it’s more pricey, it willl worth every penny!
Exceptional service! This Clutter location has great workers that help clients through every step. The customer service is great, making customers like myself, feel awesome working with this team and continuing my business with this establishment. Santos, the manager at this location, was great hand. He assisted my friend and I with everything. His charismatic attitude and funny jokes, made this experience easier for us. His communication with the details of the storage unit was clear, attentive and understanding. Thank you to this great staff, it is highly appreciated!
UPDATE — Clutter is now holding my items hostage which they failed to deliver in my initial appointment, in spite of having paid about $13,000 in storage and delivery. Feel free to contact me for additional information about the company. ———— This company is a scam... Their customer service is inaccessible, they lost or damaged most of my items, they didn't honor their insurance policy to reimburse me for my damaged items (they offered about 5% reimbursement per item), and they continued charging my monthly fee after my move out... I would advise others to stay away!
Do not use this company to store anything of value. They took my pristine perfect piano and stored it like it was luggage and returned it to me like this - never even notified me that they damaged it - I found out upon delivery. Worst experience ever. update: Clutter tried to buy me off by offering 1/4 of the pianos salvage value and also refused to refund my storage fees for 2 years where I unwittingly paid them to store my ruined piano that they damaged immediately upon possession. totally fraudulent company.
I am blown away by the flawless experience with Clutter. The reception area is always clean, welcoming and a great place to cool down and grab water after a large move. Hallways and bathroom are always well kept. This facility in particular is staffed with the most personable, knowledgeable and understanding individuals. They were kind, considerate and took their time to not only explain our bill and payments, but walk us to our unit always having a friendly smile and great personality! The entire staff was very patient with me. After countless visits, checking out multiple units and learning about different prices I finally rented a unit. The price is fair and slightly below all of the other companies around the area. The building does look a little bit older, but that doesn’t mean it’s not secure or safe. The Units are fairly clean and have great lighting. I would recommended if you need a unit around the area.
I am very happy with my experience at Clutter long island! I moved my stuff to a unit today. Rafael helped me to choose the most optimal (size + price) unit for my storage needs. He didn't mind showing me a few units with different shapes and sizes. He was very friendly, understanding and helpful. The storage facility is clean and sturdy. The loading/unloading area is very convenient. The best storage experience I have ever had!

I had a great experience storing stuff here. The staff are very helpful, and the access ramp in the back + hands-off access policy make everything relatively straightforward. My rate did increase a few times during the 2 years that I stored things there, but I would use Clutter again in a heartbeat. The process of ending the contract took less than a minute after I moved out.
I come to the facility for specifically the amazon locker elkhorn and it’s been so incredibly helpful having one in the area as I order often and this is the most convenient place for me to pick up packages. the staff- especially ashley- are really pleasant and helpful and although I dont use the place for storage I love the convenience of having my packages in one place.
We were extremely happy with our experience at Clutter in LIC. Mr. Santos and Benjamin were extremely helpful to us and to our elderly mother who frequently needs help when she goes to Clutter. I can’t thank the staff enough for bending over backwards to help us move items into storage. Very clean, easy, hassle free location with great staff.

Probably the cheapest storage around the area of Astoria, and with high-quality service, especially, a guy by the name of Jared who is attending to any of your needs at any time without any excuses. All the staff is friendly and helpful, And overall, highly recommended.
