In 1895, when Nairobi was just a budding presence on Kenya's map, a determined few united with a shared concern – fire. Imagine a modest room where earnest discussions unfolded, led by the capable Mr Cooper alongside Mr Ferrier and Mr Desai, their wisdom guiding the discourse. Their mission: to establish a Fire Service for the burgeoning Nairobi Municipal. Skipping ahead to 1907, that same determination prevailed. This time, a slightly larger group reconvened, including new faces like Mr Gailey, Mr Smith, Mr Wood, Mr Creighton, and Mr Rebeiro. Steering their ambitions was Mr HR Date. That is how Nairobi's inaugural fire station on Tom Mboga Street was birthed. The station's establishment was fueled by the words of its architects and Mr Desai's substantial donation of 5,000 Rupees. The station's structure soared, crowned by the tallest tower in town – a sentinel reminiscent of ancient watchtowers, watchful against potential threats. This tower wasn't mere architecture; it was an observatory, vigilant against the encroaching danger of fire, akin to the guardians of old. Time marched on, and in 1956, a new chapter emerged. The tale of fire safety expanded, with a second fire station taking root along Enterprise Road in the Industrial Area. Then came Ruaraka, in 1996, through a unique partnership between the East African Breweries building and the City Council of Nairobi running the station's affairs. As the 21st century dawned, 2019 witnessed the birth of two new sentinels – fire stations along Kangundo Road and the Waithaka area. That same year, the seeds of a further safeguard were planted in Gigiri. So, as you walk the streets of modern Nairobi, remember that beneath the bustling present lies a tapestry woven with resilience and camaraderie as men of vision united to protect their community. The commitment endures, shaping the city's narrative. As for whether the County lives up to that age-old spirit – that's a tale for another day!

Nairobi Fire Station, a vital emergency service hub, earns a three-star rating based on its essential role in the community. The station's prompt response to fire incidents is commendable, showcasing their commitment to public safety. The firefighters, dedicated individuals, display courage and skill under pressure, ensuring lives and property are protected. However, there's room for improvement in equipment maintenance and staff training. More investment in modern technology and regular drills could enhance their efficiency further. While the station fulfills its core duty, focusing on continuous improvement will undoubtedly elevate Nairobi Fire Station to higher standards, earning the trust and confidence of the city's residents.

The Fire Station usually referred to as Nairobi Fire Station is owned and operated by the Nairobi County Government and is the main Headquarter of firestatition in Nairobi. At the Fire Station fire engines and an ambulance are always on stand by for any fire alarms within the city or its environs.Situated along Tom Mboya Street near konja stage, it is hard to ignore the fire station as it is painted red in colour hence standing out from other surrounding buildings

An old fashioned colonial structure with patched up rusty roof top, and walls screaming for paint. This structure be renovated or demolished, its a shame to have such in the center of the city. Nairobi county government to send delegates outside Kenya to go hunting for more fashionable designs for a fire station structure. The governor to do something about this structure and to equip the place with new models of modern fire engines.

Took young children for a tour here. The place is great. We were shown around the various facilities and departments within the fire station. The huge fire brigades are always ready for an emergency. There are standby emergency ambulance services and medics to help with any emergency. The area is well secured with ample parking area. Located along Tom mboya street. #Letsguide

They are fast to respond to any distress call, the any problem they face us that they are not placed in a good place that allows them respond much fast. The road passing across their gate should be decongested to facilitate their fast movement.

One of the precolonial structures. But they are letting this iconic building fall into disrepair?. It should be maintained as a national heritage item. …

  • James Ndonga

The buildings are ancient and no longer accommodate the bigger, modern firetrucks that are either parked in front or behind the buildings.
