My partner booked the Jacaranda high tea experience for my birthday. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the waitress who was quite unsure of herself, had no service etiquette. We were seated but was disappointed with the table as my boyfriend asked for a table with the view. The manager came to explain that they do not reserve the tables as it's difficult to explained to guests that tables are reserved...even if there are reserved signs on the table. Later we saw reserved signs all along the bottom area with couches so not sure if he was just lying about it. Then we waited for a while before the experience was explained to us. My partner woke up to go and get our waitress, when asking her about the experience she was so vague and bland in her explaination. Then she said she would get someone else to explain. She went to the hostess and after much caucasing the hostess made her way to the table to explain that the chef will bring out the trays of sweets and pastries. She said she would go check on our 'welcome bubbles' which we should have received when we got there but that took forever to come as well. The chef came through and delivered our cake stand with all the beautiful purple coloured cakes and sweets a d explained each one which was very nice. We then chose to rather wait for a table at the front with the view before indulging. Our waitress never attended to us with the teas that was promised and my partner had to wake up again to go and ask for the teas. For a high tea, you should not be waking up ask for service for tea. The manager then said he would assign another waitress to our table. The next waitress took orders for our first round of tea, this is and hour into the high tea already, maybe more. Then the first waitress came back to serve us for the rest of the time ...explaining that they did not have the teas that I wanted. Then she had to knock off and handed us over to someone else. Both managers that we spoke to never came back to our table to ask if we were fine, neither did the hostess knowing that we were having a hard time. Overall this place is just for aesthetics and not for great service nor skilled people who know their food well.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Flames Restaurant located in Westcliff, Johannesburg. This posh establishment boasts an impeccable setting, characterized by its spacious, warmly lit interior and stunning views of the city. To kick off our lunch, my friends and I decided to explore a medley of starters. For my main course, I opted for the lamb shank, a specialty dish that the restaurant is renowned for. The lamb was cooked to perfection, falling off the bone with the slightest touch of the fork. The generous portion size did not compromise on the flavor in the slightest. Served with creamy mashed potatoes and a side of steamed vegetables, the lamb shank proved to be an unforgettable meal. However, the reason why I am holding back the fifth star is due to the inconsistency in service. At times, the staff were prompt and attentive, while at other moments, they seemed slightly overwhelmed, which led to prolonged waiting periods. This did not heavily mar the experience, but it was noticeable enough to mention. The drinks menu was equally impressive, offering a wide variety of local wines and signature cocktails. I chose a local South African wine, which was a delightful accompaniment to my meal. In terms of pricing, Flames leans towards the upscale side, making it more suitable for special occasions rather than casual dining. However, given the quality of the food and the overall ambience of the place, I believe it is worth the occasional splurge. In conclusion, Flames Restaurant provides a captivating dining experience with a variety of delectable dishes to choose from. Despite some minor hiccups in the service, the exquisite cuisine, spectacular views, and charming ambiance more than make up for it. Whether you're a local or just passing through Johannesburg, a visit to Flames is sure to ignite your culinary senses.

Flames restaurant has some of the best views of Johannesburg. Situated in the Westcliff, you overlook the green, leafy suburbs of the city. In spring, this is one of the best places to view the jacaranda trees that paint the city people for a few weeks. This is one of the finest hotels in South Africa and the food, service and ambience at Flames matches that. It might be in need of a spruce up but the place still absolutely oozes opulence and class. If you have a group of more than 8 people a plated menu is the default option. Every single aspect of the menu was delicious and could not be faulted. There were adequate vegetarian options as well. The highlight was the seabass with an absolutely divine sauce for main course. The malva pudding, a simple South African dessert staple, was divine and taken to the absolute next level. In summary - breath taking views, impeccable service and delicious food. It does come at a price however, it is an expensive outing but well worth it.

Had the best experience at Flames restaurant. I'm blown away. Believe me when I tell you that you have gained a new family member in your establishment and this place is highly recommended to everyone. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming . We came at the right time just to experience the Jacarandas. Though , we were disappointed to find out from our waitress Musa that there's another menu for the jacarandas that offers a dessert stand and a glass of bubbles that we weren't told about . However, that didn't ruin the experience since our waitress explained perfectly how it works and that we should book prior because it takes time since you bake and prepare everything fresh , just for us.Making sure your customers receive best quality and value for their money. Outstanding! The lunch menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and main courses and every meal recommended by our waitress was exquisite including our cocktails. The service has left the best impressions we felt welcomed and was served with a big smile and grace. My husband loved every moment. You will see us soon! Thank you

We went for Brunch which is R695 per head. Usually this is a buffet style lunch, but due to Covid- you get a platter of starters for 2, plated hot mains, a cheeseboard for 2, and 4 plated desserts. The issue with the starter platter and cheeseboard is it feels like you are paying for items you wouldn't order or eat (based on your dietry needs). You're paying the same price that you would for the buffet menu, but don't get the choice to choose what you want and how much of it. The mains were delicious! But my husband's food came to the table cold. That was a let down because the mains were really cooked well. The cheeseboard was fantastic, but my husband didn't eat cheese. So again, we're paying for something he couldn't eat. The desserts were delicious. Absolute perfection. The views are great! Beautiful ambience. But beware you're paying a hefty price for it. Our bill was slightly over R2k. We had complementary MCC 2 double Hennesy 2 cocktails And the above. It was a nice experience. But they do need to rethink their starter menu. I'd much prefer plated starters you can choose.
Overall excellent choice. Service was top tier. Food was amazing. The atmosphere was well suited to my needs. I’d visit again for sure! Service: Special occasions are taken note of and a tiny surprise is prepared. The host and waiter personnel are friendly and take great care of guests Food: Have you ever had a meal where you thoroughly enjoyed everything on the plate?Prep-time estimates are spot on. [I forgot to take a picture of the dessert] Atmosphere: Three options are available - Outdoor (sunset view overlooking the city, great for 1:1 and group) - Indoor main (If you’re not to outdoorsy, great for 1:1 and group) - Indoor and secluded (semi private area, great for 1:1) Bonus features: - Welcome reception is Four Seasons standard ✅ - Cart service is offered to drive up to the restaurant location ✅

Visited on a cold and rainy evening ️ to celebrate my partner's birthday We were transported from the parking to the restaurant's entrance in a Merc V Class Inside the restaurant there was warm air conditioning and the place was very cozy The staff were very attentive, friendly and engaging in a helpful way I think the main waiters/waitresses have assistants who always spontaneously step in to help when your main attendant is occupied elsewhere All the meals were presented so beautifully and done so exceptionally well The pasta was so fresh and definitely made in house The food is mostly an experience. I would not eat most of their meals for no reason than a celebration. I recommend Flames as a perfect place for a night celebration (birthday, anniversary, engagement) or just a date with your partner. Caters for all and offers exquisite fine dining. The location is just perfect!

Wonderful place and restaurant. Lovely view. Friendly kitchen staff. The food was great. Had many options for vegetarians, I was grateful for that. The lady who served our table is such an amazing person. Musa stayed an extra 2 hours after her shift because we were so comfortable with her. She did that for us. After learning that tips are shared, I was heart sore because it means she made such a big sacrifice and would get the same as others who didn't. She knew this before I did and stayed anyway. Musa is just a phenomenal person. Her service is incredible and warm. I hope better ways are put in place to reward people like her. She's a major reason I'll return to the restaurant.

From the get go, you will be amazed by the beauty of the architecture, the scenery of the area and the level of service you receive. I booked a table for myself and my fiancé in celebration of her birthday and we enjoyed every moment. The staff are well trained, friendly and you get the feeling that they want to treat you and make it a special evening. The table we had was spectacular with views of the hillside and a stunning sun set. The food is excellent! Really flavorsome and beautifully presented, every bite is literally a "mmmm" moment. Obviously, you pay for what you get so it is a more expensive evening out, but definitely worth every cent.

Okay, so it's well pricey. But it's also beautiful and super cool for special occasions. I would advise you take a scarf or jacket because it's pretty high up and it can get a bit breezy and cool up on the deck - but that's a small price to pay for the magnificent views. The wine list is extensive, the food tasty, and the attendant servers know how to treat patrons; if you let them know it's a special occasion when you book ahead they'll do their best to make it super memorable. The covid compliance is 10/10. Stunning views, you can see the elephants in the JHB zoo from your table. I wouldn't change a thing. What a vibe.

We were a large group. If you cannot serve large numbers, then don't. Everything of this place is just not worth the effort. Ambience is bland. Food is bland and mediocre. Service is slow. Nothing points to 5 star. Completely over-priced. Take note - cold halumi besomes salty rubber. Revisit the way you dish the fillet - cold, unseasoned raw blop on a plate just does not cut it as upper class. Have a look again at al dente vs cold uncooked veggies - the latter is not great...

It's a fine dining restaurant with stunning view of Rosebank, Sandton, and the Johannesburg Zoo. We came right around sunset and it was absolutely beautiful to watch the sky as we ordered our drinks. I had the Rooiberg Doux which was absolutely delicious. Our drinks came with complimentary bread and some small snacks. We then ordered the Butternut Squash Risotto and I think Lamb Shank. The risotto was really tasty and worth a try. For dessert, we had the Crunchie Crème Brûlée which was so beautifully made and incredibly tasty.

: Free Parking : RRR! If you’re looking for somewhere to go on a special occasion, Flames restaurant is the perfect place. It’s situated on the Westcliff hill, offering a breathtaking view. Unfortunately, we visited on a cold and wet day so we couldn’t enjoy our dinner with the view outside. The food & service = 10/10. The staff were all extremely friendly, and offered us a complimentary dessert after overhearing that we were there for a special occasion. It’s definitely on the ✨pricey✨ end, but it was worth every penny. Follow @zesti_reviews on Instagram for more reviews! ——-
We made a booking for the plated menu "taste of flames" for our anniversary 2 weeks in advance. When we were seated we were told they had removed 3 dishes from the menu and we had to make alternative choices. This was highly disappointing. We made reservations to taste THAT menu... The best they could do is tell us before we pitch so that we can either accept it or cancel our booking. Highly disappointed in this establishment - really expect out of this world service and catering.

I would definitely rate this as one of my top 5 restaurants. The view is amazing so try and be there before sunset. The food is amazing and the chefs put great work into presentation of the food. My meat was done to perfection and the waiters were so helpful and my glass was never empty. The interior design is also very beautiful and a sure bet if you want to take your loved one out to a romantic spot with a beautiful view over the Johannesburg skyline. I will be back, thanks for a great night and a enjoyable experience.
If you are staying at the hotel and you have breakfast included, be prepared to be blown away. Presentation, selection and quality are world class. Then add very friendly staff and you will have a breakfast to remember, with great views over a very green and leafy part of Johannesburg. Having been lucky enough to stay in 5 star hotels all around the world, this restaurant ranks up there with best of them. Well done to all the crew of the Johannesburg Four Seasons.

Came here for a lunch with colleagues for the first time. The service was excellent with staff being attentive to detail. The bathroom was undergoing some sort of renovation or maintenance. I ordered a steak which was quite flavourful (without the need for the sauce that comes with it) although I did find it slightly more salty than was necessary. It was nice to see the M1 highway from the other side for a change. Would be keen on coming back on a less cold day.
Very impressed, what's not to love, the truffle wagyu beef burger and vegan pizza was delicious, generous portions. Only critique is the non-alcoholic drinks (komodo) was just not nice the picked ginger flavour was overwhelming. I also asked for an affogato and got a coffee milkshake, fortunately it was a delicious oopsie. Otherwise the music, service and ambience was really nice. The views were amazing.

Went there on Saturday for brunch(buffet) and the food is horrible. Not what I expected at all. The desserts look rudimentary at best, the cold starters were nothing to write home about. Save your R695 pp and rather go there for drinks, after visiting your favourite restaurant. I didn't have any drinks, but I think the view will make up for any shortcomings. Our waitress was great though.
What can you say, it was 5 star all the way. The view is one of the best selling points and did not disappoint. The service was first class. The food was excellent and well presented. Wine at R130 per glass is a bit excessive so the beer is a better option. Our total bill came to around R1200 for two of us. I will definitely go back.

Amazing view! The food is over priced in my opinion considering it's just okay. The staff is generally very friendly however my waitress disappeared after she delivered my drink and someone else brought my food. I had to look around and ask someone else for the bill when I was ready to leave and only then did my waitress reappear. I will definitely be going back for sundowners.

We used to love eating at flames, sadly the food did not live up to what it was. The prawn starter was delicious. I ordered the sirloin as my main and only had two bites. The dessert was nice, the sorbet on the inside was good and I could probably eat it again. Overall I was really sad with our evening out even the amazing view couldn't make up for it.

I came from Chicago and booked the reservation here as I heard they had Great Views! This dining experience did not disappoint. Nice place. Very good service at the table. Toilets shall be kept in a better conditions. Food could be a bit better considering the level of the restaurant. Spaghetti a bit overcooked and artishoks were not fresh but conserved with oil. However overall a good experience and a nice place to go if you stay in the hotel anyway.
It's the Four Seasons Westcliff. What more can I say. The views, the ambience, the levels. Another experience in the bag for me! Their oysters are probably the freshest I've had. Had salmon for mains, and the crispness of the skin was perfect! Dessert was a decadent creme brulee whivh melted in my mouth!
Visited Flames in the Four Season Hotel Johannesburg for dessert as it was my birthday. The service was great, I’m sure the sunset view would have been incredible from the restaurant as it had a nice balcony area overlooking Sandton city. The desserts were delicious and great presentation. Loved it.
Flames has been one of my favourite spots to go and have a “treat” drink or dinner. But unfortunately last night was an unacceptable experience. The views of the Jacarandas are incredible, but the service was atrocious. Please improve.

This place is pricy. But the freshness, the simplicity, the attention to detail, the respect for natural flavour with which each dish is prepared, is almost worth it. Almost. The menu is only for the main course. Take it or leave it.
