My normal Indian restaurant was closed so I thought I would try Flavor Of India as I like to support local traders. I walked into an empty restaurant but there were some take out orders on the bench. I was ordering for two of us and saw some family packs on offer. The family pack for two only has two main options, butter chicken and a daal. I looked at the pack for four people and that had more of a variety so went to order that (have enough for lunch tomorrow!), asked to alter the daal for just mixed veges. Noted that the price for the dish was the same and the girl serving said yes, but an extra $5. I asked why as it’s just a swap and she just said ‘extra $5’. So instead, I just ordered for tonight’s dinner, so all up they lost $20 for the poor service. And then it came to the food. The butter chicken had good flavor but was dry. The lamb Rogan josh was tender but mostly sauce with seven pieces of lamb in the dish. The coconut rice was bright orange and too sweet, the entrees had food colouring in them -bright green pakoras and bright yellow onion Bahama and were very average. The pappadums were stale as was the naan. All up, indifferent service, empty restaurant and average food. First and only time I will be eating there.

Decided to order takeaway from here last night. Well...since the last time I ordered (a few months ago), the price increase is excessive. Looking at the old menu that I ordered from and now comparing to the new price menu, on average, there was a $2.00 increase on all items. Adds up very quickly when ordering 2 x entrees, 3 x mains, 2 x large rice & 2 naan bread. We used to get 10% take away discount. No discount of 10% applied. Now have to show this stupid "10% business card" to get it applied. $98.50 for take away for 3 people is unexceptionable. Previous total ordering before the same items was $68-75. To make matters worst, our lamb dish, the meat was hot on the outside and cold in the middle - hence telling us it was a frozen meal reheated & not freshly prepared. Garlic Naan did not appear fresh either & cold. Has lost our business as a local & will not be coming here again.

The shop before was good Indian wave when that closed down we was thinking where would we get good curry from and flavour of India opened . The food here now is exceptional it is reasonable on price the staff are all friendly and it’s always service with a bit extra and a smile but more importantly the food is cooked to perfection .my advice is don’t judge a book by its cover the ship isn’t ultra modern but trust me try this place once and it will automatically become a big happy part of your weekly dinners I have tried 90percent of all menu and it is simply flavour of India done cooked to perfection .keep up the good work guys .support your local traders people and give these guys a try it will not disappoint .Regards Nathan O’Connell .

I eat a lot of Indian food and was eager to try this place as it’s close to my parents. I came in for takeaway and found the staff to be somewhat indifferent. My order was taken and it did take quite a while to be prepared which to me meant the food was going to be good. Alas, it was average. The Kadai Chicken was okay but a little bland. However the Lamb Saag was pretty good. Rice and roti accompanied the meal. The portion sizes of each dish was good. Place doesn’t look that appealing from the street but it’s okay inside. If dining it the place is wheelchair friendly. Good parking out the front.

Ordered food last night. I woke up at 5.30am with severe food poisoning, even passed out on the ground.. questioning salmonella You all need to go do a refresher on food handling You could kill someone. And on a side note.. I’m always cautious when I order Indian food just because of its reputation for making people sick. Here’s a place that holds that reputation Definitely will not be ordering again, left overs are already in the bin and will be requesting a refund through Uber eats. Shame, cause the food actually tasted good.

We were looking for a nice place close to celebrate my son 8th birthday day . And fortunately found this hidden gem. The best indian food i ever tasted in Australia. It was very authentic and very light on our tummy. It was not over powered with spices. Just perfectly made. Beside lovely food , the great service was icing on the cake. It was very nice for the manager to offer complimentary desert with a sparkling. They also played a happy birthday day tune. It was very thought full. Love this place. All the best .

My daughter loves Indian (Chicken Butter Cream) First visit to this restaurant. Looking to try somewhere new in our area. No one else seated inside. We were advised 2 curry minimum if eating in. We don’t eat that much, it would be wasted. Advised it is the managers rule. So decided to leave. It’s mid week and quiet! Elsewhere there is never an issue to share a curry and rice with a naan each. Also have a drink each. We always eat in, its a treat. So they lost our business we went to our usual Indian.

  • InDaynaMo

We love the place. The staff is very lovely and warm to the customer. They ask if there's any more the customer needs. Thank you and highly recommended. See ya

Ordered from Indian Wave last night. Easy ordering and timely delivery. The food however was the worst we have ever experienced. The flavours were just terrible. We have eaten a lot of Indian but never have we tasted anything as awful as this! Butter chicken that tasted like parmesan cheese was certainly a new and unwelcome experience. Complete waste of money as we ended up throwing away most of the food. Very disappointing experience. Safe to say they will never again have our business.

  • Sridhar C.

Ordered peas rice and paneer palak with tandoori chicken. Asked for mint sauce, offered it for free, didn't Include it. The rice was oily, uncooked and tasted exactly as par boiled rice does with peas. The curry was oily and tasteless, no spice flavour and didn't taste like a decent palak paneer. Haldirams pre-packaged curries taste better. Tandoori chicken was dry. Also tasteless. The spice rub used needs to be looked at. It felt prepared years in advance. Disappointing.

Absolutely uncaring heartless we ordered large order delivery driver delivers it to wrong address flavour of India refuses to contact delivery driver to find out where order is flavour of India says its not our job please screen shot this review and pass it on to others staffs uncaring heartless attitude flavour of India should be shut down permanently truly heartless and uncaring please people they don't deserve your money or buisness they don't even deserve a 1 star

Great food. Very friendly and polite staff. The new owners have gone for more traditional flavours. The old place was good, I have to say that these guys have made it better. I ordered takeaway and enjoyed the food so much that I had ring up the shop and compliment the chef. Some of the better Indian around. If you like a more authentic flavours and less westernised style of Indian then this place is great. I hope the business becomes a great success.

Went in on a Saturday night at 9:10pm and looked at the order board, chose what I was going to order for a few minutes only to be told after that by the lady behind the counter that the kitchen was closed. The closing time is 9:45pm. The door was still open and the "OPEN" side of the sign was up. This is the most disappointed I have been with a restaurant for a long time. Will not bother going back even if the food is great and prices are cheap.

I’ve only ever ordered online but the food is always on time and the order is always correct too! They do the most delicious Indian take away I’ve ever had. The flavour of the butter chicken is perfect, it’s sweet and tangy with a beautiful consistency and even just a small serving goes a long way when paired with the rice. The breads are also lovely and so delicious, would highly recommend, everyone in my family was very impressed

  • Rhiannon Parkins

I ordered a Lamb Kuma. I order the same thing from so many different restaurants, this is the first time I ordered this from here and it taste like Mango chicken but with lamb. It was not nice at all lamb also should not be tough like it was days old. I also ordered a cheese naan bread and got something else that's the opisite of cheese naan. I have an addiction to indian food but I will not be ordering from here again.

  • Werner Rozario

Great food. We catered for an anniversary and the guys came out and helped us set up the food and dishes. They were really helpful and took the initiative in setting up. The roghan josh received praises from all and the lamb Briyani was excellent with the flavour of the lamb infused into the brasmati rice. If you’re looking for Indian food around Mooroolbark or Mount Evelyn, this one comes highly recommended.

Under new management, this place had a few avatars in the past but this time around the new owners have made real positive changes. The seating arrangement has been improved just to compliment the mouth watering Indian, specially North Indian food that is just so good!! Ideal for a couple or even a small group. Situated close to the bus stop and railway station, this is a very convenient eatery in town.

  • Hardeep Singh

Stale, Awful & Horrible food!!! On 26/11/2016 Requested for Dal Tadka & Rice to pick up, Which are the most basic food for any Indian restaurant, Dal was stale as soon as I opened the box an awful smell came & rice was undercooked!!! When I called back instead of apologies the owner said i was not there at the time of your order so i can't do anything!!! May God bless their business!!!

  • P J

Our favourites are the butter chicken, daal makhani and navrattan korma, but every single dish is delicious. The service is great, food is excellent and overall it’s a lovely local business.

Only good was the friendly cashier. Chicken was undercooked and not seasoned as an Indian dish. Biryani was nothing like biryani, and the grain of rice used is definately not the rice supposed to be used for biryani. Was a customer several times before and food was good even last time. But now a big disappointment and removing from my list...

  • Hollywood Mozzie

I asked for Mango chicken with a bit of chilli....In the words of John Coffey... But not spelt the same...." I'M IN HEAVEN" These guys know their stuff. I highly recommend this food to everyone!!! Come on a Thursday night and you might get the chance to sing your praises. We would love to share a great night with you! I give them 10 stars!!!!

  • Adam Spooner

This place used to be amazing it was a family run restaurant (along with a over sized calculator) and the food was always first class but it got taken over and it all went down hill. Too much salt in the food and the service is now pretty poor ..... please oh please old owners buy it back and I will once again be there every weekend

  • T H (TH)

Had dinner here tonight, whilst there was a steady stream of people coming in for takeaway, we were the only ones eating in, the food was beautiful & couldn’t fault it, I would encourage more people to come out and support your local restaurants by dining in & enjoying the hospitality restaurants like this provide...

  • MANINDER SHARMA

Low quality food. Forget authenticity, we ordered vegetarian food. This food made us loose our appetite. Never coming back here again. Never recommend this to anyone. And I’m sure that the 5 stars reviews that have been given to this place have been done by owner himself, there is nothing 5 star about this place.

  • susie Gilchrist

  • Ghaleeb Md

Worst experience ever. I have ordered 7 mutton biryani, full chicken tandoori, mutton Kebab, onion Bhajia, I dumped everything into bin. worst taste ever nothing tastes fine. I ordered food for party completely upset. And restaurant doesn’t respond well. I would never recommend this to anyone

Was stunned with the food quality, staff mannerism and punctality with service. Probably the best indian food spot in the town with authentic indian taste for and has lot to offer highly suggestible for friends, family or just a quick snack grabber. BEST CHCIKEN CURRIES I EVER HAD.

Used to be my solid go-to place for a solid indian meal, unfortunately when the redecorated the restaurant they also redecorated the price list list up quite a bit, which i now bypass in favour of the Burmese cafe down the road.

  • Nicki Russell

We first tried this restaurant several months ago and have been back many times since. Flavours are the best, the meat is so tender and great quality at a very reasonable price. Service is friendly and good. Highly recommended.

  • Jaxon Hound

Had this for the first time tonight, hands down, without a doubt, the best Indian food I've ever tasted!! Saw a car with their logo on the back, and that's when I decided to give it a try, what a great decision!!

  • Ron Kousal

Lovely family run business with obviously well experienced Indian cooks. Has new carpets, chairs and tables and eating area design after last owners (which they surpass in quality whilst keeping the same prices)

  • Trent Piribauer

I've been a local here for years. The service is easy and the food is amazing. Every time I place an order I think to myself it cannot be better than last time..but IT IS!! Delivery is extremely fast too!!

  • Neil Thompson
