Really nice staff at the checkouts and is a well stocked and maintained grocer . Now that said they are the next store to put self checkout and try to force customers to use them , or endure long lines as they only put one or two registers with actual people . I won't use self checkouts as you are now having the customer wait in line , scan their own products , bag them themselves , yet the customer receives no compensation . Also the store is saving 15$ (min ) an hour x6 (depending on the amount of self checkout registers ) . I now only go here to pick up one or two items , not my full groceries . I know Food Basics is just following suit and they did hold out for a while on the self check outs . Eventually customer pick up and delivery of groceries will be the main stream , to me , that's better than me working to pay for my groceries after I've put an 8 HR shift at my own job

Was at the store with a friend. He was buying something, I wasn’t. (For the record, this location is right next to our high school, so kids go there all the time). My friend was at the self checkout and I was standing there next to him. It’s important to note that there was nobody trying to get through, and I certainly wasn’t obstructing anything. That’s when an employee comes up behind me, says “Are you buying anything?” When I say “No” she grabs me by my backpack and “guides” me out of the self checkout area. I moved 1, maybe 2 steps away and behind the very same machine and she just stared at me and my friend while talking to her coworker saying “Yeah, they’re hard to deal with”. We have never done anything wrong at that food basics in our life and we get pushed around and talked about by the employees.

I'm just leaving the Food Basics on Mohawk Road in Hamilton Ontario. I've shopped there several times and was very disappointed today. The products are great the prices are good but the front end really needs some help. I went through a young man and not once did he say please or thank you or smile so I thought I'd go to the customer service desk and ask him if you can put in a comment card to which I was left standing waiting to speak to the girl who knew I was there but would not even lift her head to acknowledge I was there or take a second to say I'll be right with you. When did such common courtesy become unpopular? Needless to say I'll not make another trip to this food basics until they make manners a priority when dealing with customers.

If I could give this less than one star, I would! This location is dirty and the produce is often completely rotten. I bought a pack of raspberries this week, they looked OK. Went to eat them the very next day and found all the berries at the top of the package looked OK but every single one below them had white fuzzy mold. I can't count how many times this has happened to me. It should be illegal to sell clearly spoiled produce. I will not be returning and will buy my fresh fruits and veg at fortinos where it is typically overpriced but at least fresh. I'm wasting valuable time and money when I go to food basics anyway so I may as well pay more to have it done right the first time. Will be reporting this location to public health.

I never had bad experience with cashiers anywhere but yesterday I was in the store the cashier gave me hard time she was being so rude and unrepectful just because we were speaking different language which is non of her business she changed her attitude and started shouting. But when she served her own race she was being very nice and accommodated her in a friendly manner which is unfair she was being racist. we all share this country plus work and pay taxes like she does. We shouldn't feel this way and if she didn't like what she's doing she should find something else. I work and deal with patients everyday day I no how to treat them with respect never ever have I disrespected someone. Very rude and bad customer service

Very unprofessional staff. Try to buy butter which was in sale ,before I buy I looked for sign if there is any limit but there was no sign and double check with the staff too she said there is no limit so I put whole case in my troll y with some other grocery too. When I was checked out the cashier told me there is a limit of 6 so she refused to sell. I spoke with the manager too he said we reserve the right to limit I said ok If you have the right than put the sign clearly stated limit of 6 and tell your staff too than no customers left unhappy even they don't apologize for their mistake. I come back home see online ad even that ad didn't say any limit usually they do .

I find this food basics the most cleanest and well stocked food basics I've ever been too, I definitely love the amazing deals, and they also import from Portugal and different countries. So you can find fresh sardines and fresh octopus. That's very hard to find. I definitely trust their food. I'm a super picky shopper when it comes to freshness, yet this store is on point. Congratulations to the store manager and team . You guys do a phenomenal job, super friendly at the store, and I'm always able to find everything I need.

By far one of our favorite locations to go to. The store is always well organized and everything is easy to find, the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly, and are always willing to give you a hand. We have been going to this location for a long time, and some of the cashiers remember us by name, they always make sure to make us feel like family, or at least that's how it feels. Great place, decent prices. Sometimes sale items are gone pretty quick, but they are always happy to work with you on rain checks when they can.

You have a person working in your store that is emitting very heavy bad body odour. He leaves a trail of odour behind him wherever he goes. It is disgusting and offensive. I have seen and heard multiple patrons in the store express their displeasure of being subjected to the smell while shopping for their groceries. It can't be a good idea to have someone working with food that practices such bad hygiene! I'm pretty sure that unless the issue is connected to a medical condition you are allowed to do something about it.

A good quality grocery store, cleaner that a lot of the other discount shops I’ve been too. They have a decent, though not overwhelming, selection of products and I’ve not had any issues with expiration dates or old produce.The aisles can be a little narrow at times, but otherwise accessibility is good. They’ve just redone the parking lot as well, so it’s easy to get into. If you’re walking, be careful of the traffic at the intersection, not everyone follows the rules.

I give it only 3 stars. some sections of the store are well stocked, others have empty shelves. Oddly enough the pharmacy section with toothpaste and basic 1st aid needs, which I thought would be well stocked, was quite empty and very little selection of the products there. Also no beer or wine at this location. Staff seemed friendly and the store did look clean. But unfortunately can not be used as a 1 stop shop, as i do many times with the upper James location

Never been a fan of Food Basics but in a pinch this one does the trick. They usually have everything but we forewarned: the produce isn't always the best on certain days and not everything will come up at the register as marked. My one true pet peeve here is the cashiers: you'll either get a super nice one or one literally throwing your groceries through scanner and demanding money in a span of seconds (without asking if you need bags when you clearly do).

Staff very friendly. ....noticed a couple of bags of oranges had 2 molded oranges in them...also. ...strawberries and nectarines. ....l enjoy shopping at food basic. ...but find they are not checking there fruit enough and I don't enjoy putting my fingers through spoiled fruit when picking it up to put it in my cart. ..overall I will continue to shop there. ..prices are great and even better when they have there sales. ....

This is the only grocery store that I shop at. The manager, acting manager and especially the gentleman at the door - greeter- are all extremely kind and understanding especially throughout Covid. They go out if their way to ensure you feel safe while shopping. Their PA system even announces to respect those with medical exemptions. Their continued friendliness is the reason why I will ONLY shop here. Great work team!

Food Basics is a decent grocery chain store. They have many locations in Hamilton. They have a good quality of produce items. We have visited this branch couple of times and every time our experience was positive. We found the vegetables very fresh and reasonablely priced. Store staffs were nice and friendly, they warmly greeted us. I would definitely recommend this place.

I feel very strongly that Food Basics has a lot of promotions that benefit the public. I also feel that if they would keep the same manager like Alana and Toni. This Food Basics would acquire a lot more customers who would shop at Food basic instead of going to Freshco. Which Freshco loweres there prices just to have the customers go there. I was shocked, extremely disappointed and upset by what I saw or didn't see that would contribute to the spread of Covid-19!! I will not shop in Food Basics until they change things. I'll continue to shop at Fortino's.... prices are higher....but I feel safer there!! I was very nervous in Food Basics. So....in summary....my experience was frightening!!!! Sue McKeen

It's to my understanding that items are supposedly cheaper. That's why the up keep of this grocery store is not like others. I am disappointed as I found to be more expensive. Metro has better deals and is cleaner. The aisles are cluttered and unorganized. There's no deals. The produce is disgusting. Staff is always rude. I'd rather shop at Big Bee.

Exceptional customer service. My family and I have been shopping there for years. So helpful everyone, polite, and accepting. Management too is very approachable. I have family members who are mask exempt on medical grounds and not once have they felt discriminated or biased against. Thank you everyone! Keep up the great work!

I have been to this store a few times and it always smells like Urine and Body odor in the store. Not exactly the kind of environment I want to buy groceries from. I wish I could sat it was a 1 time thing but it constantly smells disgusting in the store. Obviously their staff do a horrible job cleaning.

They move items around constantly so you can never find what you need in the same spot week to week. In addition, I have never been able to buy baby carrots here as they are always slimey. Check dates on everything, they sell rotten stuff regularly. Prices are higher than Walmart for most items.

Security person at the door very disrespectful and rude when I did not hear what they had said. Walked away after his rude comments. Ill take my business elsewhere. Should be more respectful to people especially while they have to wait in the freezing cold to get their weekly groceries.

Please start stocking Mocha Cappuccino smoothies by Boathouse Farms. They are really good for those of us who don't drink hot coffee. Also, please bring in the large containers of Unsalted Almonds. Would buy 2 or 3 containers at a time if you stocked them. Thank you!

I was there today wanting the butter that's been on sale all week. The butter bin was empty and they arent giving out rain checks. So much for advertised specials. Why do I think that they will restock the butter at usual price when the store closes tonight

This Food Basics location is my favorite with the one at Upper Wentworth and Rymal a close second. The stores are always neat, the aisles are wider and the Bakery, Meat and Produce are the best! Prices are reasonable and employees are knowledgeable and helpful.

All I can say is wow! This grocery store is massive and the selection is awesome. They have a giant produce section. I will definitely shop there again. They have a decent selection of wine and beer as well. You can use the self checkout even with the alcohol.

I go shopping and there are so many lines because cashiers are refusing to be cashiers. I was waiting inline and overheard a cashier say they refused to work customer service. I guess thats why they always only have 1 poor person working that desk.

Always low prices and although their store brand doesnt have the nicest packaging, we have had amazing luck with it. Always turns out great. Their produce is always in good shape too, same with their meat. Definitely a step up from some No Frills.

Great grocery store for weekly deals, they have an alright ethnic food isle, it could use some work. But not a bad place to just pop in and pick up a few things, cashiers are usually friendly and the prices on produce are not bad.

I come here fairly often with the family. Generally good deals and prices. And they have most items you would be looking for, also being on a major street helps with commuting to and from it. Would highly recommend this location.

Great inexpensive grocer. No deli or bakery. Produce is pretty good. Staff have been friendly and competent. The ample parking lot can be a little dangerous as drivers blow through it to skip the no-right-on-red at Mohawk/Gage.

This store is selling products that is already EXPIRED!!! Bought an Astro yogurt yesterday and found out at home that it’s two days expired! Called the manager he said there’s nothing he can do healthwise if something happens.

Always has pretty good stock. Sometimes a little busy but I find the lines move quickly here. Staff are great and helpful. Prices are just as wonderful. I'd say all around this is favourite place to shop for all my groceries.

One of my go to grocery stores. Someones always around to help. Theres not a bad international choice and they have spices for people that cook meaning you have a choice other than tiny bottles. Weekly sales are good.

Busy place indeed. Lots of cashiers to handle the holiday rush but I was disappointed on the selection of Ocean Spray drinks. I am diabetic and cannot have 30g of sugar in my drinks. More 1g of sugar, please!

Bought a apple pie. Didnt realize it was open. Took it home and took it out of the bag and the pie slid out of the box and fell onto the floor. Please check your products and make sure there sealed properly

They have 3 different chix bases, in 3 different isles and they get progressively cheaper each time you find another one. Don't just go for the flashy Aurora brand in the convenient, common sense location.

Food basics is our go to supermarket. They have a good selection and great prices on just about everything. Produce is relatively fresh, the only thing we sometimes find lacking is the quality of the meat.

Its usually pretty clean, however the last few times I bought produce there it spoiled more quickly than when Ive got it elsewhere. I also dont stop in this location as much as I do the one past Nash.

Store is clean. Staff see friendly and helpful. Most cashiers are really engaging. Hearty selection in the international section. Could have a better selection of international fruits.

I find the layout not conducive to covid shopping, the prices high and many of the staff grumpy. Not laying blame. I could not do their jobs. One of my least favorite places to shop
