While it is clean and has a great selection, my main reason for the 1 star rating is because of the staff not bagging groceries. They do not even offer. This happens even when there is no line up. This is difficult for someone with an invisible disability/injury involving the upper body who have difficulty bagging the groceries themselves. Other grocery stores are able to offer bagging without slowing down service. For able-bodied people it may not seem like a big deal, but when you have limited strength, coordination or functioning and/or chronic pain in your upper body, having to bag your own groceries, especially if you feel rushed with people behind you, can be extremely difficult. I will not be shopping regularly at Food Basics solely because of this and I would kindly request that this store policy be changed to be more inclusive and accessible by offering bagging unless people opt to bag their groceries themselves.

We were camping at Rideau Acres campground, since Food Basics was just down the road we decided to get our groceries there. I picked up a netted package with 3 pkgs of bacon in it for $14.97, upon checking out I glanced at the the cash register screen. I saw the bacon on the screen came up at $44, brought it to the cashier's attention telling him it said $14.97 in the cooler. He said yes you have 3 pkgs in the netted bag, I put it through 3 times for 3 pkgs. Excuse Me?? I told him I didn't want it then. Wow, pretty expensive bacon at $15 a single pkg. Wonder how many others have been screwed over without knowing it. Always watch when your purchases are being rung up. I always do and will continue to do so.

I'm usually not a big fan of the Food Basics chain. I've been elsewhere and the stores are dirty, the produce is always poor quality, and they don't have much to offer in terms of baked goods, deli, seafood, etc due to the discount nature of the chain. However I love this particular store. This place is always sparkly clean. Shelves are well stocked, the produce is great with lots of selection to choose from, the staff are friendly. I've never picked up milk or anything that was bad from here, which happens a lot at other stores. You can just tell the managers and owners put their heart into this. They hire many of out wonderful students as well. This was such a wonderful addition to our East End.

In the first couple of weeks it opened... it was perfect. Produce was great, bread was well dated, etc... As time goes by it seems that their produce is less nice, the bread my husband and I like is ALL dated best before tomorrow... what's up with that? Another thing I found, they have been out of some promotional items for over two weeks Specifically, planters cashews!!! Otherwise, prices are great but items not necessarily readily available. Lastly, I was very happy with their Lactose-free options :) I love the location as it gives our community some options to shop!!! All in all... yay!

Shout out to the two staff members who went the extra mile for one overwhelmed Mama this afternoon! My 7 week old baby decided he was over grocery shopping and I was not able to get him to stop crying. The staff member working self check out saw me struggling and came over and offered to check out and bag my groceries for me. Then another staff member approached us and offered to take my cart out to my vehicle and even helped load them into my vehicle. This kindness brought this tired Mama to tears in the parking!

Great prices, delicious food, clean, bright store, helpful and friendly staff. Plus it's right in my neighbourhood! I love supporting this store. I'm always surprised when comparing flyers at how much more competing grocery stores charge for the identical product. It makes you realize just how much these other stores are gouging their customers. I love Food Basics and happily support them each week with our grocery dollars. Keep up the great work guys!

  • Annette Trask

Always have a wonderful shopping experience at this location. The staff is always very friendly, helpful and courtesy. The store is always clean and the shelves are arranged neatly. The store managers Mike and Shawn are extremely friendly and I enjoy chatting with them while I am there. Mike has been extremely helpful whenever I am looking for items or inquiring about products. Thank you all for the wonderful service that you are providing.

Food Basics is a great little store. Parking is easy and convenient. They have the freshest produce department and their prices are very competitive. Their floral department is poor so if youre going for flowers, search elsewhere. The staff is friendly and usually there aren't big line ups. Nice to have another grocery store this end of town. There's also a pharmacy, a pet store, lcbo, Starbucks and a daycare center. One stop shop!!!!!

This store is new to the Green Wood Park area and is great because of the lower pricing on a lot of the food items. Also the store is very clean and well maintained. Only negative comment is that the staff is not very good at locating items and this could because not all like items are stocked together. We do our weekly grocery store shopping here and really appreciate the extended hours on the weekend.

If you live in Kingston east, that’s a place that you want to purchase your regular and packaged groceries, e.g., branded milk, egg, cheese. The fruits are average but decent. If you want high-end or organic products, you better skip this place. After all, Food Basics is well suited for you basic (not fine) groceries. Recently, they stocked their bread shelves with amazing sliced Belgian bread.

I had a heavy load of food and water to take to the car. I am 67 years old and had trouble walking and lifting, I asked for help from the cashier 129 and she asked Troy to come help me, he help pack my food up and loaded my car for me, they both did all this for me with a warm smile and thank you shopping at Food Basics. Troy was so kind and helpful. I will not forget their kindness.Thank You

Friendly staff here helped me navigate the new rules. I am immune deficient so being my first experience out was nerve racking. Was yelled at and touched by one of their competitors saying I wasnt welcome entering there store. This store however took the time to explain how things worked. Happy to have some dairy again in my fridge after weeks of isolation. Thank you to all the staff here.

Really disappointed with the cleanliness of the store during COVID. Cashiers are not even cleaning the conveyor after each customer. Farm Boy's the place to go for a clean shopping experience. Shocked at their produce. Absolutely horrendous in store and anything you may find that looks good in store spoils the same day you bring it home. SO disappointing.

  • Michael Spence

I recently visited Food Basics, and I have to say, I was impressed with their store layout; it's well-organized and easy to navigate. However, I did notice that there weren't as many bakery foods available as I'm used to. I'm a fan of their bakery items, and I hope they can stock a wider variety in the future to enhance the overall shopping experience.

The good - Nice and clean, the meat and vegetables look fresh. The bad - there are 3 different locations in the store for beans. Two for hot sauce and two for pickles. It’s split up between aisles 6, 7 and the end of 5/6. I’m not sure why this is laid out this way, however it’s pretty frustrating if you didn’t know this before you went shopping.

  • Tomás Baldassarre

Fantastic addition to East End grocery options! Very competitive pricing on almost every product. Quality so far has been very good for the most part. Selection varies, but I would say occasionally they do not have something that you would find almost anywhere else. Conveniently located next to a big LCBO.

  • Ian Blois

My biggest complaint is that the employees stocking the shelves don't seem to care for the shoppers. Just blocking areas and acting oblivious to anyone shopping around them. They will stand in your way and cut you off or just make it difficult to access certain items. Especially in the produce area.

  • Pam Dier

Extremely disappointing experience at Cashier today. My grocery order was literally thrown down the belt and groceries tossed to the bag area. The area was not disinfected before or after the next customer. Cashier should appreciate value of groceries and be a little more respectful of them.

  • Eric Langlois

Nice to have a store so close. This location is big, clean, and bright. Has all the things you would find in a discount grocery store. There is no deli or bakery but they do have fresh roasted whole chickens. The store always seems busy but the line ups at the checkouts is never too long.

  • stuart caddick

I was there today and got charged 10 bucks for michelina when they were on sale 4 for 5 and another customer took the sign down and slammed it on the counter and left because it was on sale last week and they forgot to take down the sign and I won't be going back if they can't honor it

  • Thomas McCutcheon

This Food Basics is a beautiful store. It's clean, organized, and the staff are helpful and friendly. The vegetables and fruit are fresh and crisp. They also have great prices, especially when they have sales on. It's great to have another option now available on the east side.

  • Holy Water

Best grocery store in the neighbourhood. They’re rarely sold out of anything and it’s very big so you don’t get caught up in the aisle. Sometimes they leave out berries that have gone bad but it is obvious that they take care of their vegetables.

  • Andrew W

Prices aren't to bad neither is the selection. I highly recommend the selection brand "the soft one" mega toilet paper. The value is unmatched and it last for ever. Huge bang for your buck and it's always on for a great price (17.99)

  • Chris Lever

This place sells pre molded produce so you wont have to worry abput keeping vegetables. This wasnt a one time thing either. It happens consistently. I have found year past expiration date boxes of pasta on the shelves. Clean it up.

  • micheline edwards

super clean well stocked vegetables and fruit always stocked and neat staff always friendly. I want to give 5 stars Dallas the produce manager there he runs a well stocked and clean area i give him a well deserved pat on the back

  • Richard Moller

New store so everything is fresh and clean, hope it stays that way. Great selection of items and competitive prices compared to rest of the city. It's laid out a little differently than im used to but I will adapt quickly.

  • John Godbout

Good prices on food. Very good lighting. I find the isles to be poorly designed, however, with many items not where you'd expect them. Employees seemed stumped about where they end up finding certain things.

  • Stephen Ambury

Nice big store with wide aisles. Huge selection and I find the fruits and veggies always fresh. Good covid protocols in place and a public washroom. I have found the staff to always be helpful and friendly.

  • Isaac

Really not a fan of the food basics chain. They seem to have a lot of pre packaged foods but their meat and deli sections are always lacking and their produce is hit and miss for both freshness and price.

  • PaulandSheila Johnston

Clean, good prices, okay produce/meat, excellent parking. Cashiers are what you would expect. Our only issue is somewhat limited selection, none of certain luxury nice-to-haves. So, a good Basics store.

  • Todd B

Clean and uncluttered isles. Staff and customers followed Covid-19 protacalls for the most part as some still don't know what the arrows on the floor mean. Staff are friendly and eager to help.

  • Sarah D

Pleased to find international foods here, especially with the kosher symbol. Keep stocking them! Would love to see Yves veggie falafel in the freezer section. PS staff are welcoming.

  • Goldy Percy

Conveniently located. Prices are reasonable and you find every almost thing you are looking for or an alternative product will be available. Excellent customers services...

  • S Harbour

This is not a “discount supermarket” mayonnaise has been 5.49 for 4 months. I am a white person I need my mayo on sale, that’s all my family will eat in the summer time.

  • Luke & Crystal Harris

This is the nicest, cleanest Food Basics I've shopped it. Quality of the fresh product can be lacking some days but it is a discount grocer so that is to be expected.

  • trudy jamieson

Fabulously clean organized well design store and I'm one of the hottest days of the year was beautifully delightfully cool in there I took some photos for you

  • Dion Kendall

Highway 15 Food Basics great place to shop for groceries. Yes it has changed they added 5 self checkouts. Would be nice if you paid me for doing your job...

  • Jennifer Price

The store is impeccably clean unfortunately like anywhere else prices are going way too high, I prefer it when they had more people working on the cash outs

  • Chris Green

I like food basics but some of the employees are plain rude and they think that they're doing you a favor by sticking the shelves.

  • Dugan Maynard

Generally pretty good, but today I was in and saw an employee pull down their mask to sneeze all over the margarine twice. Yikes.
