I visited the Food Zone restuarant and sat at the bar because as a solo traveler, the barman is your first best freind. I ordered a st George beer on tap and asked for the menu. After spending 5 minutes deciphering hieroglyphs, I settled on half a kilogram of grilled beef. 15 minutes later; this thing of beauty settles itself on my table. This Axum tower of meat, crisply grilled to perfection on the outside, medium rare on the inside, its spiced aroma wafting through the air as it still cooks in its princely tower. The grilled meat is served with raw cubed steaks, a healthy helping of injeera and a delicate spice that gives you the same sensation as wasabi. I took one look at this feast and knew there was no point in any pleasantries like using a fork or knife. I washed my hands and got to work deconstructing the tower starting at its base. I tore some injeera, filled it with raw steak, seasoned it with spice and then dipped it into the wasabi tasting sauce. I swallowed the excess saliva from my excited mouth before biting down on my hand made wrap. The flavors put on an impressive show in my mouth as the slightly sour injeera playfully teased the sides of my tongue while the soft texture of steak parted like the red sea in my mouth. I reached for the grilled meat and let out low moan as the freshly grilled flavour of beef reminded me of every barbecue I have ever been to in my life. The conveniently cut little pieces of meat (crunchy at the edges and soft at the centre) invites the next piece into my mouth then the next. I oblige, until 15 minutes later I am lulled into a flavour induced semi comatose state, looking at an empty platform where the Axum tower of meat once stood. It takes all my will not to order another one. Somehow I dont feel like I would survive it. I look longingly at the remaining skeleton, and promised that I will be back for another one tomorrow. When I comes to food... I keep my word. I love Ethiopian cuisine.

I have tried this place four times now. And I have been satisfied with everything I tried on their menu every time. The unique thing about the food zone is that, unlike other meat places, they serve you every food just the way you ask them to. I personally like my meat with no fat in it and most meat serving restaurants just put a chunk of fat with my every order. But with food zone, there's always little to no fat. The service is also delightful. The waiters are polite and helpful. The setting is also very pleasant. Although I think all their food is luscious, I highly recommend anyone visiting the food zone to try their ቅቅል. One serving of their ቅቅል is sufficient for two people unless you are starving .

Bad experience. I like the place and I came back, this second time we ordered 1 fasting menu (for my local brother in law), 1 shiro, 1 salad and 1 meat. I repeat the order to make sure everything will come (my wife is waitress and she always insist to repeat the order). They bring first the fasting menu so we shared it, after 20 min they bring the rest and they bring again a fasting menú. Waiter insist we order it so he bring the manager, manager said we have to pay for it and take it for take away. I hate when people try to be smart on me. So I paid the 120 birr and I took it for take away. Unfortunately this second time was the last time I visit the place. So sad.

Most of the times, the place is so busy. The foods are nice, meat is available even in fasting times. Service is ok but still needs improvement, the servers might get lost from your sight and you might be challenged to find them. They have took our fiscal receipt when they brought our change after the payment, better to check your bill before paying. Finding a car parking space is also another challenge.

the ሸክላ is good available all year even fasting months open air but this are only good thing *music they open one album u will hear it all nit with bad speaker * table are bad u have to seat next ppl u dont know because they are arranged close together *and when it is 8 pm they will ask for bill so the day shift staff can go home i advice u dont go but if u want non fasting food during the fasting months in ethiopia only few choices

I love the location and how the place is wide relatively to the hanging out places nearby. Their food is so great even in the fasting season. I tried their fasting food and it was pretty good. They have great raw beef Service is amazing. Food comes fast. I frequently go there and advice people to try it out.

This place is in the center of Addis Ababa and if you need to eat out side with a very good outdoor bar and restaurant with a very delicious Ethiopian food it's a right place and it's one of my best experiences in Addis Ababa

Very Crowded, no covid precautions to speak of. Chairs from different tables are squeezed back to back, no masking or sanitizing in sight. The food, both carnivore and vegan, is usually good, though. They also have meat during fasting season unlike many other butchers

If you are looking to experience Ethiopian culture DON'T COME HERE just always Western music services not as professional....my last visit . No good 0000star

Too noisy in Sunday's evening, the drumbeat could even shake the building nearby. Your revelry is nightmare to the others. For the god's sake, turn down the volume PLEASE!

Great food, at reasonable price and they are open 24 hrs. Top of the line traditional butchershop and dill menu of food and bar. Service has improved also.

The quality of the the food is not good. Its always crowded and the employees can not serve on time. U might wait a hour to get ur meal. Its not worth it.

This is the most busiest and the best place to eat amazing food while having a beer. If you were in Addis long time ago this is the former Via Via.

Good place for what you got in the area.. however, poor selection if not alcoholic drinks, no peanuts or similar, other than that it's ok

Best place to enjoy in a group. It is open 24 hours, the food taste is always good. Their is a live music on selected days.

It's a Great place to have fun with your friends, have drinks and delicious foods with a talented live band playing.

Always love to come to this place for meat and affordability, the Food Zone special is my favourite dish (picture).

Good food, bad environment, specially at night smoking will desturb you the most. You have to stop that.

Excellent place to eat Kurt [raw meat], Tibs [roasted meat]... and to hangout with family and friends.

This place is the only place in Ethiopia ,they are working 24/7 and you can get everything you want

They cheated on us charging twice for the beers and not returning the change. Won't come back...
