"It's a pretty interesting place to visit with lots of historical info about the early days of Brisbane and why we had a fort of this like out near the port"
Only open on a Sunday, this is definitely something I would recommend. They have lovely rolling green grass for a picnic alongside the Brisbane River. Fort Lytton is well maintained and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. As it also has it's own museum, we spent hours roaming around and immersing ourselves in the history.
Really enjoyed going here, the amenities are well maintained and the volunteers here are knowledgeable with lots of enthusiasm. Structures have been looked after and the museums are full of interesting artefacts. Well worth a visit, its pleasant and would be worth bringing a picnic to watch the ships go by .
Fort Lytton National Park is a great place to visit and learn about the heroism, bravery and patriotism of the men and women of the Australia military force. The Guides and Staff are all very knowlegeable and enthusiastic to assist tourists and impart a bit of history. Its a must-go to place in Australia.
Nice place to explore and know a bit of Brisbane's history. It opens to the public on every Sunday from 10am-4pm. The entry is free and you can join the guided tour which run by the very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers to learn more about the history of the fort.
It's a pretty interesting place to visit with lots of historical info about the early days of Brisbane and why we had a fort of this like out near the port. The volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the various guns and fortifications
I found this place really interesting and well done considering its mostly run by volunteers at the site. The only thing i didn't like, and this is the same for any sites around, is the closed off areas. I would really recommend a visit …
Me and my.family came.here for Anzac day and we are so glad we did! Awesome piece of history to explore, kids loved it, does need a better track to walk on, especially for disabled people in wheel chairs. After having our own look around we
We did the drive out from the Gold Coast, which took about 50 mins in traffic, we took a packed lunch and I had 3 kids with me aged 1, 4 and 12. They all enjoyed running around looking at the historic guns, tanks, cannons, etc. We didn't do
This is a must do for military or history buffs or anyone wanting to learn more about how our forces kept us safe during wartime. The Staff here are beautiful, the guided tour is amazing and extremely informative and I couldn't have thought
Fort Lytton Historic Military Precinct was one of the most interesting places I've ever had the opportunity to check out. We went there on an overcast day, and it really gave the feeling that we had taken a step back in time. Taking photos
I was very impressed with this place and it's history. The guide on our tour was very knowledgeable on the history of Fort Lytton, especially the protection of Brisbane at the mouth of the river. There are lots of museum exhibits that have
Interesting place to spend a Sunday, which happens to be the only day it is opened (at this point in time). The free tour is well worth waiting for. Look out for the blackboard near the entrance of the shop/museum for times of the tours.
Well run place with friendly and informative staff who can give you some background and history to the place. Should you choose to you can also just roam around on your own and check out the fort and guns. It's a great little hidden gem
Fort Lytton is a well preserved and interesting part of Brisbanes history. The volunteers do a fantastic job of running and maintaining the area. It is only open on a Sunday, they run free comprehensive tours, the displays are well put
A nice place for a walk and to learn a little about Brisbane's history. It's a shame that a couple of the museum building were locked (I'm unsure why). You can walk down by the Brisbane River also. There's plenty of parking and toilets.
Worth a serious look...heaps of displays scattered about in various buildings and very knowledgeable people (some of the volunteers were stationed at the fort in ww2)...only drawback is that the canteen is basic and so no real food...
A wonderful experience. Whether you're not into Military history, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the exhibits and the passion of its volunteers. Be prepared to spend the better part of the day, so bring a picnic lunch. There
Lovely piece of Brisbane's History. Really enjoyed walking through all the bunkers and seeing all the guns and cannons . Some areas not wheelchair friendly but most is accessible. Lovely spot right on the Brisbane river.
Nice day trip especially if they are firing the cannons. Nice to see the history of Brisbane preserved. While you can explore the grounds on your own, the tour is much better and you get to see and learn a lot more
History is an important part of a nation. Regardless of whether this period of history is good or bad, some lessons can be learned. The history of Australia before World War I is very interesting, with costumes,
Interesting place to visit. Huge grounds. Tours weren't on, so we did a self guided tour with the help of brochures. Worth visiting. Signs explained the history. Will go back for a tour
Great open space with friendly volunteers. Kids learnt alot and got to see things right up close. Free attraction but I couldn't help making a donation.
Really great spot to visit and insightful to learn more about the role the Fort played in the defence of Brisbane in colonial times, through to WW2.
An absolutely fantastic place to spend some time. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging during our tour, he clearly loved what he was doing.
Had a wonderful afternoon here after visiting the Maritime Museum. I would recommend to get there earlier or check website as we got there too late
History on our doorstep, recommend a visit. Great experience, the guide, while he did waffle a bit, was knowledgeable and added to the experience.
Such a good place. There’s also tours here that show you about the place and what the soldiers do. The actors there are skilled. And it’s perfect.
