Here's a real review, that I'm genuinely sorry to have to write. The owner of G and L seems like a stand-up guy. However, he has serious problems with customer service and worse ones with his employees. Short version: the price is reasonable, but you may end up with more problems than you had before you got there. Don't waste your time and money with these guys, they epitomize the stereotype of the dishonest mechanic. My experience was as follows. Took my car here for a starter replacement. The job took 3 h, (2 h more than the quote). I was only charged for one hour's labour, but I couldn't help but wonder where the extra time went, especially since I overheard two employees joking about how some mechanic had broken something and had to patch it up with a piece of metal. Being a rational and trustworthy person, I disregarded the comments and assumed that it must pertain to one of the other vehicles being serviced. After all, if something had gone wrong with my car, a respectable business owner would simply have apologized for the delay and replaced the part free of charge. Further, an intelligent liar wouldn't be careless enough to discuss his deception within earshot of a waiting customer. Unfortunately, I apparently give people too much credit. The so-called mechanic had broken the adapter affixed to the top of the starter which connects two coolant lines. The patch job consisted of a 2" piece of metal tubing and some epoxy - the drying time for which accounts for the extra 2 h wait. Obviously such a makeshift contraption would not hold under operating pressure - another example of why those white collar engineers, that many contractors and mechanics (in my experience) mock and tend to have such contempt for, actually have their degrees for a reason. I also later discovered that the main air intake line hadn't even been reseated properly when it was attached after the repair. So when I left G and L with a new starter, I had air leaking into the system and within 2 weeks coolant was leaking out. All of this conveniently went unnoticed when I brought the car back after noticing the rpms were quite high and fluctuating rapidly when I started the car in the morning. Being the middle of winter, I naively thought it might have to do with the battery. G and L now had a second chance to tell me what had happened with the starter - but they didn't. They commented that my ANTIFREEZE WAS LOW, topped it up, and said the rpm issue could be a sensor problem or the result of AIR IN THE SYSTEM. Their recommendation was that I leave the vehicle overnight for "observation." - I wonder why? When I declined, they tried to convince me that the car might leave me stranded, but I smelled bs. Either they were up to something, or were incompetent and had no idea what was wrong. Before I could even make an appointment with another mechanic the coolant line disconnected and my engine overheated. Luckily I walked to a gas station and bought enough antifreeze to get me to a service station where they recognized the problem immediately, showed me, and were incredulous that another shop could be so dishonest and unprofessional. I was equally surprised when they told me that the part that G and L broke was only worth $80! They lost a loyal customer, sent an unsafe vehicle on the road, and risked permanent damage to my engine over EIGHTY DOLLARS!!! They could have even lied and said the thing was already broken and that I'd need to pay for it - I wouldn't have batted an eyelid, and at least the car would be safe! I still have the broken part, and a video of my new (and trustworthy) mechanic showing me the ruptured patch job. I called G and L about all this, and of course the owner denied any knowledge of it. He apologized but didn't offer any compensation either. I know this is a long review, but if you bothered to read it I hope you'll benefit from my experience and think twice before you decide where to bring your vehicle for service. And if no one reads this, well, I won't know so I'll still feel better :)

These guys are awesome, I have been going here exclusively for years. Steve really knows his stuff and Shane's welding work is excellent. While I'm waiting for service being performed, I often basically get a free car mechanics lesson (I'm not a great mechanic.) Now that's added value! My beloved Pontiac is in great hands here. My 14 year old Grand Prix doesn't leak any fluids and basically drives like a new car thanks largely to the excellent service it gets here. I don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon. Edit: A year has gone by and G&L is still awesome. Keep up the great work guys!

Don’t waste your time/money with these people. Came here to change my breaks. They found an issue with my rear diff and tried to charge me 5000$ to fix it with second hand pieces. My jeep is 2017 and still on warranty. They said they contacted the dealership and it would take 9 months to get the piece in. Dealership told me to get my jeep outta there right away as these people are trying to rob me. Anyways got my breaks changed and the dealership said that they didn’t even put them on correctly. Rear diff was 100% covered by warranty and was fixed within 2 weeks. Do not trust these people……

I went to Canadian Tire for a "simple" hitch removal, and was quoted a price that seemed far too expensive. After doing a bit of homework, I found this garage. Even after the first call, I was glad to learn that they were ready to offer a solution at a far more affordable rate. As a new car owner, I was quite nervous. My concerns were alleviated by the calm and knowledgeable staff. It is a great reassurance to know that there are trustworthy mechanics in my neighbourhood. Highly recommended! Thank you so much! You made my day!

I have been going to G&L for years now, and refuse to go anywhere else. I have a lemon of a vehicle, always something breaking down or needing replacing. Other companies have quoted me ridiculous prices for repairs, but G&L always quotes the lowest, most fair prices for repairs. They are pleasant, honest, efficient, and I feel very taken care of whenever I need them. Any time I have an issue, they always make time for me as quickly as possible. They will have my business forever, and I profoundly recommend them to everyone!

I had a problem with a sound my vehicle was making every time I was crawling to a stop. I went to the dealer to get the problem fixed, they wanted to charge $380 to have the issue fixed. I decided to go to G&L, turns out all it needed was cleaning and lube, a common problem due to the factory not lubricating the parts when shipped from the factory. I confirmed this with a technician from the dealer as well. So all said and done, problem solved, cost $69. Highly recommend these guys.

We have had work done 3 or 4 times now at this garage and will happily come back and recommend the work they do. Whenever there needs to be work done they take the time to fully explain what the problem is and then fully explain how they will fix it and why they chose that option. We stumbled across G&L when we moved here but its the best find we have made as far as service providers go. Highly recommend this shop.

Asked them to fix an exhaust leak on an older vehicle and they charged me $700 for a new muffler and tailpipe. That didn't fix the exhaust leak whatsoever because the leak(s) were between the manifold and the muffler. They tried to fix these leaks with exhaust putty but it did nothing. I complained about this and they said they would call me the next morning. Haven't heard from them since.....

  • Akshat Kumar

I called them On Monday to Book Oil Change on Thursday. I called them prior to start from home. They picked up call and Said Let me see if i can come and They hanged up. Further , I went to the place and Asked them i am here for oil change they said me to wait. And After much waiting I didn’t had any option but to leave. Worst Place. Dont Go!!

I recently had extensive exhaust work done at G&L. I have also had work done on previous occasions. I find them to be extremely knowledgeable , fairly priced and professional. They paid for an Uber to drive me home and delivered my car when it was ready. I greatly value their honesty and would not hesitate to recommend them. Jody Maclaren

Great staff. Steve was professional, amicable and fast. They are very reasonable. Had a quote from a garage in Orleans for the same work which was ridiculous and scared the heck out of me. Would not go anywhere else now!
