Beautiful place but has the worst service, and not because of all the staff but because of one lady called Happiness. This was on 4th July 2022. Breakfast starts at 06:30 but Happiness (who stays on the hotel premises) only set up at 07:20 which made us late for work, worse thing is some gentleman even went there and said "sorry guys, I will no longer be having breakfast as I really need to leave now". She mentioned that there is bread, eggs, pork/beef sausage, bacon, tomato and mushrooms. We chose all of the above as we normally do, to our surprise only a 2 slice sandwich was brought to us with bacon, cheese and eggs inside, whereby I even found a strand of hair. She did not even mention why she is bringing something different, also did not even apologize for starting the breakfast late. Later during the day I noticed that my room did not have a towel, I went to ask her at 14:50 that my room does not have a towel and I think you might have forgotten. She told me that there was load shedding between 10:00-12:00 so the tumble dryers did not work at that time, so my towel is still wet and there's nothing she can do about it. But if that was the case, why didn't she dry them after 12:00 when electricity was back? I heard her speaking loudly to her colleague that "if he complains about a towel, I will give him a wet one and he can go complain about it on the internet", is this really the right attitude to have? I even noticed that room 2 was not serviced at all and there's a guest who checked into a messed up room, bed not done, nothing. We noticed all this including the dirty room because we were sitting on the pool aide. This lady chooses when she feels like working or not and seems to be very comfortable with this behaviour. The hotel is a very very beautiful place but unfortunately will not be coming back due to this lady running an entire hotel like it's a small shop that is in her back yard. The way the beds were made, one could just see that the person was just in a rush to finish the job. I have never seen such, and the problem is not the hotel, it is this Happiness lady. We were here the previous week as well and we're surprised when on my second night my towel was exchanged with a red and white beach towel, this is not of hotel standard. The morning of the 5th July 2022 we had breakfast listening to Happiness make a noise about how she wants to resign and how she hs had enough. This was very very unprofessional of her, very disappointing.

The hotel needs to be cleaned, the couches & chairs were dirty. They had stains from years. The bed was not very comfortable, it looked and felt old. In our room we found the ironing board already set out which is tacky. It should have been folded and put away in the ample cupboard space. The was an ironing board and no iron in the room. This place is by far not a 4 star establishment and the rating needs to be reviewed. It is not a boutique hotel, more like a bed and breakfast. At breakfast, there was a lot of disappointments from the ordering station, then the tables were dirty with ants everywhere. You can tell that the cleaning staff do not remove the place mats when they clean (if they really do clean). The place mats on the tables are dirty and sticky. I wish my wipes to clean. the cutlery was dirty which I had to wipe with the wipes as well. like I mentioned, this felt like I booked at a hostel rather than a boutique hotel. I would not be recommending this place to anyone even a student on a budget. The owners/management should really consider a total refurbishment and renovation. The phone line in the rooms did not work in both our rooms. I was totally disappointed. The furniture by the pool is worn out and torn. To top it off, the night guard/receptionist was annoying. At 21:00 when we got back from dinner, we are a group of 4 mature ladies in our 30s and he just kept on guarding us and insisting that we keep the noise down, while we were not even making any noise. I even asked him what noise is he referring to. We were not playing music, we even had the tv at low volume and used our inside voices. I was very offended and felt that we were being profiled because we are young black. Each time we would go outside for a smoke at the balcony and he would say we need to keep it down other people are sleeping. I asked hi how when we are not even playing music and we are using our inside voices. He then responded by saying even us opening the doors. IMAGINE!

I'm only giving this one star because you can't leave a no star rating. My husband and I booked this boutique hotel online via a friend. She hadn't stayed either, but she found it for us. The lady at reception was very kind, but the reception area wasn't all that clean. We were shown to our room almost immediately. That was great service. The hostess opened the door for us, welcomed us, then left. After being in the room for a few moments we noticed the trash hadn't been emptied, the floors hadn't been mopped (they were actually disgustingly dirty), and the towel in the bathroom was dirty. We realized, then, that the room hadn't been cleaned. My husband noticed that there were mold stains on the pillow cases (like when mold has grown, you wash it, but you can't get those black stains out). I went to reception and asked the receptionist to come look. She was very apologetic (ok, she deserves the star!) and showed us another room. It had been cleaned, but the room wasn't ideal. It was cleanER, but not spotless. The handles on the cupboard doors were broken, the headboard looked old and marked up, and the couch was iffy to sit on. After having the heebie geebies from the 1st room, we couldn't bring ourselves to stay. Other than the swimming pool, we feel the photographs posted online are deceiving. Definitely no wine or wine glasses upon arrival. I don't like giving this review because I feel like it makes us sound like snobs. In reality we're not, we just like a clean room and not to be deceived by false advertising. I don't know what this place was like in the past, but as of October 2022 I absolutely cannot recommend it. Thankfully we were given a refund after speaking to the manager/owner.

My husband booked a 2 night stay to celebrate our 6 year anniversary and to have a break as I am 8 months pregnant. Worse decision ever. On arrival floors in the room are dirty, as well as shower. Air conditioning does not work (we are there on the 1 December, when we are experiencing a heat wave), told by staff that it is working. Next morning we complain, and we are told a technion will be coming to have a look. Beddings are not changed if they are dirty, if you stay more than one night (mind you, if the floors where cleans there would be no brown foot prints on sheets and duvet). No word from management regarding air conditioning during the day, technion arrives at 19:30 and works until 21:30 in our room raising dust and disturbing my 3 year whom was asleep on arrival. Next morning we go to breakfast at 9:30, to be rudely told by kitchen staff that there is no breakfast, we a late, and she starts to throw the fruits on a platter away, as soon as she sees us... and begins to bang things. We didn't say anything to her just, thank you and leave... only to have my little one ask why are they not giving us breakfast mummy ( breakfast is included in our stay). We go to check out and management did not even bother to ask about the situation with the air conditioning and or even ask how our stay was. Definitely not a 4 star establishment. Worse service ever and I will most definitely not recommend the place to anyone. Just Teddy's at Hyde Park saved us that morning and made my daughter smile after that nasty experience. The only good thing about the place is the location.

OMG NOOO. was there with my daughter and our room floor was dirty, the headboard was raggered, the toilet seat was just shady, there were no teabags,the place needs a serious makeover definitely not 4star..no way. The one side lamp wasnt working, only two towels (no hand towel in the bathroom). The same hand washing liquid is also for bathing... oh gosh the breakfast was just a no no. The table had no salt, no forks argh no even my 8yr old was dissapointed. There are no extra blankets so we basically froze all night. The aircon worked for 2hours then just didnt work anymore. The shower door didnt close properly... will definitely never return to that place.

I had to travel to Johannesburg to meet with family choosing to stay at the Gardenia. It is a gem very well positioned in hydepark with easy access to any location in the Sandton area. The hotel is near Jan Smuts which is busy but the hotel is set back in a residential area and is very peaceful with next to no noise. There is a courtyard garden to relax in with a swimming pool should you wish and a on site restaurant. The restaurant is nice and the chief and waiter team are brilliant. The staff at the hotel are fantastic everybody has a smile and nothing is to much a very friendly environment. If there is anything you need to no Michelle the front of house manager is the person to speak to and to help you arrange what ever it may be. Jedd and Michelle a brilliant stay thank you for everything.

Don’t get fooled by the photos this hotel is definitely NOT a 4star and definitely nothing boutique about it!! No backup Power - no towels no bar or drinks - laundry is hanging outside over all the outside furniture and staff lounging around. Absolutely disappointed and won’t even give them a star ⭐️ seems like this hotel was taken over and it’s gone backwards very quickly im shocked to see this is rated as a 4 star boutique hotel

What an incredible experience and offering. Beautiful establishment in the heart of Hyde park. I had the most amazing stay, great food and tranquil sleep. I really enjoyed the 24/7 security and the night guard. I felt safe and secure. The guest service was incredible. I loved every second. Thanks to Tyron the manger for going over and above for me and my mother. Only place to stay. Best value for money there is !

Honestly the best boutique hotel experience i've ever had!! What an amazing hotel with amazing staff, food, vibe and ambiance. The manager was incredible and so insightful and helpful. Nothing was too much to ask for. The owners gave complimentary soup and whisky. We all loved it so much! Thank you, thank you thank you! We really did feel at home in your beautiful hotel. We will be returning soon.

Based on personal experience I can highly recommend this hotel for their commitment to service all the way from security and cleaning personnel up to management. The hotel manager and owners strive to excellence is truly commendable. Great rooms, great venue with a delicious buffet and cook-to-order breakfast! Next time we stay there we want to try out the dinner service. 5 Stars allround!

We really enjoyed our stay, everything was just incredible.. luxurious bathtub, swimming pool. We were welcomed by Owen, the receptionist, Owen mopped our floor because the other staff members were busy. Excellent service and very safe. Thank you for the wonderful stay.

This place needs a serious make over and a good clean. The towels and bedding is shocking. Actually went to buy my own towels as just couldn't get myself to use the hotels towels. Definitely not a 4 star more like a 2 star. Will definitely not be back.

Big rooms have always been their signature, the hotel is under new management, I felt a slight drop in service standards, but still very good value for money

Spacious and clean bedroom, nice pool area, fast check in and excellent location. The breakfast could be faster and the pool cleaner for a sunshine day.
