I'm reposting this review as the google .edu account I had originally posted it with has since been deleted, but I am stilly an avid George the Salon/Maud fan. I've even recently had friends reach out asking for Maud's info as they've needed to revamp their hair post-covid, with incredible results. I’ve been a client of George The Salon for just under three years, I’ve seen Maud exclusively, and I have to say, I could not recommend her, or the salon, more. Firstly, the place is beautiful, clean, and and sophisticated. The front desk is professional and friendly, taking coats and offering drinks after check-in. With Covid they have a quick temperature check and questionnaire, and even had an extra disposable mask ready for me, to spare my personal mask from any risk of a dye stain. Ana, who seems to most regularly be Maud’s assistant is incredibly attentive as well, and always has a blanket at the ready for when I’m getting my hair toned, which is the most lovely and sweet touch (and something I’ve never encountered anywhere else). And Maud, Maud is out of this world. Genuinely an artist who has honed her craft. I have never walked out of George not absolutely LOVING my hair, and Maud and I have done some dramatic changes. She cut my hair when it was waist length so it had body and texture and complimented my face shape–which is a feat with how much of it I seem to have. When I finally decided to chop it, she made a plan and laid out a few options for me, with beautiful results. As a colorist, she’s taken my naturally raven hair to a stunning platinum blonde in one day, and it’s still SO healthy. When I wanted less upkeep because of covid/moving/life she spent the weekend working on a few options to blend my roots, so when I walked into my appointment she was ready with a gameplan that left me looking like a natural blonde. I always seem to have an idea of what I want, and walk out with something better than I even knew was possible. In short, my experience at George has been nothing short of incredible, and I urge you, if you have any reservations, or have been scarred by haircuts before, go to Maud. She’ll change your life.

George is the best stylist I have ever seen in my life. For the last 4 years he had been the only one to cut my hair. He listens to exactly what the client asks for and delivers. Styled or not styled the cut is always flawless. The cut also grows out beautifully and lasts. I recently moved out of state and George was not available to get an appointment with before I left. I got an appointment with another stylist. I guess one of the top stylists under George's. Styled straight when I left the cut seemed nice. I have curly hair. The splylist and I spoke about this before the cut. It looks horrible styled curly. It looks horrible if it's left to air dry and not styled. I'm extremely extremely disappointed with my haircut. The layers are extremely blunt and do not flow into one another like when George has cut my hair. I feel like I got a haircut from super cuts. I am willing to pay for a high end haircut because my hair is extremely important to me. I hate my haircut. I'm going to have to find someone to fix it. The cut is honestly very bad. The person was very nice, but she butchered my hair. I honestly wish I still had the previous remains of my haircut from George. I gave 4 stars for George. He is amazing. That's why I only took 1 star off. But if you can't get an appointment with him I wouldn't trust any of the receptionists recommendations. I trusted the person because I Know George's standards and had faith anyone at that level at his place would do an amazing job. Unfortunately my hair was butchered. I'm very sad about my hair. Thank you for responding George. I posted a question for you. I would be more than willing to post a picture of my hair for you, so you can see what I'm talking about and that I'm not just making an unnecessary fuss.

Maud is simply THE BEST. I call her “Maud Monet” because she is the French hair color master artist. Her work should be in a museum! I’m VERY picky about my hair and have complicated texture. Maud developed the most creative ways to get my hair color to perfection. She ALWAYS wants to make sure that the color looks great in every lighting situation, not just in the salon. I feel like Maud cares more about my hair than I did (oh, and I care A LOT). She takes pride in her work, listens to my concerns, and even asks other colleagues too to make sure that every idea is considered. And I’m a new client to the salon—not someone who has been there for years. I literally get stopped on the street and asked about my hair all the time. I’m praying that Maud never retires because I’m worried what I will do with my hair without her. As for George the Salon ... also EXCELLENT. The staff is warm and inviting, making sure that I’m comfortable from start to finish, offering beverages, blankets, etc. The people make it so LOVELY. The salon itself is an oasis too—it’s quietly nestled above Rush and Oak, with beautiful minimalist modern decor. Plus, they run on time, which is very important to me because I’m a working mom and don’t have time to sit waiting in a salon.

My experience with Natalie for color and Melissa for cut and hair treatments is wonderful. My hair is fine yet wavy/curly which means I usually need to use some sort of heated styling tool to style it daily. Melissa recommended a Spruzzi treatment which would limit the daily use of heated styling tools. Thus far, this treatment is fantastic. I only use a blowdryer 2 times a week after washing my hair and use my fingers as my "brush" my hair to style it straight. Really happy I did this treatment. For color, Natalie is amazing. My natural hair color is dark brown and she always manages to find a way to make the blonde highlights look natural against the dark base. She walks me throughout the whole coloring processing from foils, to wellaplex, to gloss, etc.; she is just awesome. The best part in my opinion is that both of them partner together on the best option for my hair to get it to be healthy and grow out - 2021 goal. Overall, I really like this salon and recommend it, especially Melissa and Natalie and hairstylists.

First class salon! I have been going here for about a year and see Gia for color and Dae for cuts. Every time I go, it’s a consistently pleasant experience: the concierge is welcoming, coffee is good, and wait times are almost nonexistent. The salon has a modern, elegant ambiance with lots of natural light - never chaotic or clubby. Gia truly listens to me and delivers fantastic color, whether it’s a single process root touch up or a full head if highlights. Her intuition helps bring out exactly what I want, each and every time. She is also quite thoughtful and always offering me a drink, magazine, or even a blanket! Dae is an extremely talented professional and unlike any hair stylist I’ve even experienced. Not only does he deliver a flawless cut with great precision, he also explains his process to me so that I understand as well. His deep knowledge of hair and how it behaves makes every visit a treat for me — I love learning from him! Go to George — it’s a guarantee.

If you ever want to cheat on your hairstylist, at least make it a satisfying tryst with George (the Salon)! I have been following Mohammed Rashid all over the Gold Coast for about 15 years for his incredibly insightful, artful and expertly beautiful cuts and styles. No kidding! He has spoiled the hell out of this no-frills-tomboy. Mohammed cuts hair so that one can emerge with a new outlook on life and have confidence that your hair over the next weeks and in my case, even too many months, is going to hold up and keep looking great. He gets MY hair and he will get your hair too. I’ve seen his curly cuts and they’re game-changers! (Meagan and Nicole have graced me with a couple great glazes too.) That said, George the Salon is posh & professional and yet unpretentious. Best shampoos with head massage and all. You really get what you pay for in my opinion, or perhaps you’re ok with waiting for it to “grow out” a little. Worth the splurge!

With being a new mom and with Covid, I hadn’t gotten my haircut in a very long time (probably had been a year). My hair was lifeless and damaged from heat styling and in need of some love. After reading great reviews about Melissa’s talent with thick long hair, I decided to make an appointment with her, and boy am I glad! She is AMAZING! I absolutely love my hair and she’s totally worth every penny!! She brought it back to life and the best part is that when it grows out it will continue to keep its shape so I won’t need another haircut for about 6 months. I really appreciate how she took her time to hear what I wanted in a haircut, actually delivered exactly what I wanted and recommended a product which I can use to maintain the healthy shine. If you have long hair and want an amazing haircut/style, you NEED to pay her a visit! Thanks again, Melissa! I will be seeing you the next time I need a haircut!!! :)

I started my services at George the Salon with Lauren for hair treatment and blow out and immediately fell in love with the place. I now only get my hair cut from Lauren, even if I’m gone from the city for half a year. She’s incredibly patient and honest and works with you to get the hair you want and sometimes experiment (even though I’m often nervous to assert myself). She’ll go out of her way to style my hair even if I booked the wrong times and I always leave with a new product and feeling so pampered. I also started to dye my hair with Maud which is something that is very new to me. My balayage and base bump really transforms my hair while keeping it healthy and very natural looking. My hair honestly comes out feeling a lot stronger after each dyeing session and she always makes sure I’m more than happy with my results!

I seriously never write reviews, but Melissa at George The Salon was so worthy to sit down and post about - this was my first time going and I was SO lucky to have made a blind appointment with Melissa. She knew exactly what I needed from the moment I sat down and took incredible care of my hair, making me feel like a million bucks when I left. She took my dull previous style and amped it up within an hour and a half… literally did not even have to show her inspiration pics. Melissa is not only wicked good with hair but makes you feel comforted and at ease while in her chair - it felt like we could’ve been friends for years even though we had just met. I am really on cloud nine knowing I found my forever stylist and cannot wait to go back to see her! Thank you, Melissa!

I’ve been coming to George the salon for years now. Being assigned with Tanya was perfect as she initially corrected my color and then matched me with the perfect shade of blonde. And us blonde’s know… that is not an easy task! Her artistry in color is unmatched. And then there’s the lovely Maud. Her skill with sheers and the way she’s able to ensure my hair extensions blend perfectly with my color, in the most natural way, leaves me with a beautiful head long blonde waves. And to mention, she works in lightning speed! The choreography between my stylists is seamless, and most importantly, they always have me feeling that I’m visiting my two best friends for a bit of pampering! If you haven’t been to GTS yet, please do. You will not be disappointed!

Beautiful salon! It was my first time going to George the Salon and it definitely won’t be my last. Everyone from the receptionist to the assistants to the stylist were so welcoming, professional and accommodating. I had my hair cut by Mohammed and not only is he a master at his cutting skills but he is so fun! He took the time to show me how to properly blow dry my hair and gave me some of his insider pointers so I can also master that professional blow-dry look at home. I also gave him the freedom to do what he thought was best and I was not disappointed. I came out feeling like an improved, fresh new me…definitely needed it! Don’t hesitate to book an appointment at George The Salon, especially with Mohammed, you will be so happy you did!

I've been going to George The Salon since 2009. George is to hair salons what The Four Seasons is to hotels, with consistent exemplary service levels. I go to Julianne for styling and Sarah for color. I get frequent compliments on my hair, and from people who have good taste:). I briefly tried local salons when I moved to the North Shore and I immediately high tailed it back to George. I like the collaboration that Sarah and Julianne have together with a consultative approach to my color and style, and I think that this very is hard to find. Sarah and Julianne make me look and feel my absolute best every time I go to the salon. I also bring my Mom, son and husband to the salon and they love their services with Sarah and Julianne.

This place is amazing! I'm very sensitive about my hair and it was the first time in a couple years where I've left a hair appt truly happy! I was unsure about the exact color I wanted to do and Natalie talked me through a few options. What she came up with was absolutely beautiful, like she read my mind. Everything blended out so nicely! Lauren cut my hair. I was told she worked alongside George as his assistant and it showed! I've been thinking all quarantine to do bangs & I'm so glad it was her who did them! I took a risk & she made me so happy I did! The rest of the cut was also flawless. Side note - the woman who shampoos/conditions your hair will give you the best head massage you'll ever have in your life.

Lauren Cikulin is the best! I was referred to Lauren by a friend with the absolute best hair and it has been a hair partnership made in heaven. She cuts my hair, does anti-frizz treatments, and regular blowouts, too. Lauren is always careful, considered, and thoughtful in her approach to my hair. She listens to what I want and honestly gives her expert feedback on what will work best for my hair, face shape, & lifestyle. She is always so generous with her deep hair knowledge--I've learned so much about hair care and preservation from her over the past 10 months. Plus, Lauren is an absolute gem of a human and sitting in her chair is always a delight. My hair has never looked better--thank you, Lauren!

Booked an appointment for full highlights and cut after reading reviews online. Gia did a beautiful job on my color. I am naturally a dark blonde, and she somehow managed to blend the cheap brassy highlights that I had previously gotten at a different salon with fresh new foil highlights. She was meticulous to make sure everything processed equally and my blonde is perfect now. Maud gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve had in a while after only a brief chat about what I was looking for. She clearly has a lot of experience and knew exactly what my hair needed. I left the salon with beautiful hair that still looks amazing more than a week later and styling it myself. Highly recommend either of them!

Looks nice, everybody talks the talk, but not everyone walks the walk. I went there because I was looking for a cheaper alternative to my salon (my favorite stylist had also left the salon so I was shopping around). The website looked great, with pics and short bios of the stylists. I will admit that I have difficult hair - lots of it, with a bit of texture, not every stylist’s cup of tea. But I know what a good haircut looks like, and what I got at George’s has been at best lackluster. Not terrible - but definitely not great. I tried two or three different stylists, but then I gave up. I have seen some nice haircuts walk out of there, but mine were not some of those.

I’m so lucky to have booked an appointment with Melissa! This was my first visit and I was blown away with how thoughtful she is. She knew exactly what my hair needed within 2 mins of sitting down and I didn’t even show her any inspo pics. She specializes in cutting long, thick hair and uses a unique dry cut technique to make sure you don’t end up with chunky layers. I came into the salon with bulky, flat hair and left with the best hair cut of my life! And I didn’t even have to sacrifice any length. If you want effortless long blended layers, Melissa is the master! I’ll be returning for sure!!

I’ve been going to Melissa Conley for over 10 years and she is amazing! I have relatively thick, long hair and she knows exactly how to cut it so that it looks great when I air or blow dry it. There is no better cut in Chicago! I started going to Maud about a year ago for my color and she is also amazing! She’s done balayage, highlights, full brunette or whatever I’m feeling that season and each time it turns out exactly how I imagined:) I bounced around to a couple of stylists in the city before finding these two, but could not be happier that I found them. Melissa and Maud are the best!!

I got the BEST haircut from stylist Nick last weekend. He's an expert- listened to what I wanted, talked me through what he was going to do, took his time to really shape my hair, and styled it nicely at the end. I alternate wearing my hair curly and blown out, and he did what no stylist has been able to do for me- make it look great to wear both ways! I used to live in NYC and would get my hair cut at Sam Brocato (high quality but way more $)- my experience at George was way better. All the staff working there were kind and helpful too. Will be back for my next haircut. Thanks Nick!!

I went to see Dae for my first appointment at George the Salon. Dae did an amazing job. I don’t know what Dae did, but no one in Chicago has ever brought out the curls in my hair and made them look so beautiful. I’ve gone to many “ top” hair dressers in Chicago and my curls looked nice ( not beautiful) and took took a lot of effort, humidity and product to style.,After Dae cut my hair, my curls were easily styled and look they way I’ve always wanted them to look. They are super cute. I am so happy. Thank you Dae. You really did a good job. I look forward to seeing you again.

I have been going to Melissa for haircuts for over seven years, and I followed her when she joined George the Salon. I have long, layered hair, and I have always been particular about it. Melissa does a great job of keeping the length but also adding layers and taking the weight out of my hair. She cuts it in a way that is easy to manage, and I only need to get cuts a few times a year. I highly recommend Melissa to people with all hair types and lengths. In addition, George the Salon has done a great job in following COVID-19 protocols and keeping everyone safe.

Today was my first time at George the Salon, and Megan could not have been nicer or more professional. I’ve been getting my hair done in Pittsburgh, where I’m from, and had yet to find someone in Chicago. After being highly recommended to go to George the Salon, I booked an appointment with Megan. She walked me through what the best option was for my color and what the process would be. She is very personable and I could not be more happy with my hair and the overall experience. Highly recommend her and will for sure be back!!

I have been going to George the Salon for over a decade and I have seen Michelle the entire time. Michelle is an incredible hairstylist who always gives me the most amazing haircuts. I have had them all from pixies to bobs. Michelle has a gift with scissors. Plus, everyone who works at George the Salon is very friendly and professional. They make getting your hair done a true joy. I would never go anywhere else, and in fact, I have recommended their services to many people. You just can't go wrong!

I came to George the Salon by way of my colorist, Courtney. I originally came to Courtney with burned out, bleach blonde, destroyed hair. As a curly hair girl, the damage seemed even more so, combined with a humid Chicago summer, I looked like a frizzy-fried mess...and then...Courtney came to my rescue! After several treatments, her advice and some time, I am saved! My luscious locks are back to normal and I will never trust anyone else. Thank you Courtney and George for bringing me back to life :)

A friend suggested this salon as I was new to town and she used to work at Harpo. It was a shockingly terrible experience. Not only were they running late, the salon was not Covid compliant which had me nervous. I was there when Bachelor Pete & his girlfriend were there. Why is it ok for B list celebs to take tons of pics & not wear a mask when it puts us all at risk, especially as they constantly post how much they travel. I would never want to go there again, especially as the cut was mediocre.

Maud has been doing my color and she is outstanding (pics below for the red color)! She turned me from a blond to a redhead and I’m in love with the color. I get compliments all the time on it. She’s really sweet and the whole team at GTS is really professional and top notch at what they do. George is also an a great guy and one of the nicest salon owners you’d ever meet. The salon is really clean and sophisticated as well. If you’re looking to get an amazing cut or color, this is the spot! :)

Michelle Vincent ( formerly Frost) has been cutting my hair I think now for about 5 years. She is AMAZING!!! She is truly gifted, intuitive, personable and always professional. I know several people who also go to her ( we all have different hair texture, style and color) including my mom and we all love our hair. We are such big fans of Michelle. The staff is very friendly and always very welcoming. Their space is beautiful and located at the heart of Gold Coast- check it out!!!!

I was very impressed by the keratin tips Michelle at George the Salon installed in my hair. Michelle was able to order an exact color match for my hair just by the photo I sent her prior to my appointment. I was extremely happy with the way the extensions blended with the color of my natural hair. Michelle has excellent customer service and was a joy to talk with. I left the apportionment with a beautiful blowout and will be booking with Michelle again!

I got into Chicago late for a wedding and they were all booked up. George and his assistant (can’t remember her name) squeezed me in for a blow out and curl even though they were super busy and every station was full. She was very sweet and helpful filling me in on all the great places to eat. I really appreciated them accommodating me!! The curls stayed in my hair for the whole duration of my trip! I will definitely be back next time I’m in town!!

I have been getting my hair highlighted for years and had moved to this salon a little over a year ago due to my hairstylist moving here. I came home and decided to use a new hair towel I splurged on the dry my hair after having it colored. It turned my towel orange, thank goodness I didn’t use my expensive wedding towels. I was upset, as I was not told to do anything differently and my stylist said it was because my hair was not washed properly.

The talent, the stylists and colorists show, is remarkable. A truly, elegant yet relaxing environment. The moment the front desk staff greet you, you feel welcomed and at home. The owner George has recently debuted his hair care line called, "I am Gorgeous!" a subtle affirmation for every woman to remind themselves of their innate beauty starting from within. That's the way you feel when you leave their gentle care, enlightened and gorgeous!!

Went to get a haircut for the first time with Melissa ( @melissageorgethesalon) after seeing her video on instagram of the "invisible haircut," and I was blown away. Her 27 years of experience showed as she took her time and paid attention to every detail, ensuring I was satisfied with the result. I can't believe a haircut could change my hair this dramatically, I'm so happy and will be going to Melissa for all my haircuts moving forward!

I cannot say enough amazing compliments about this salon! I am from northern Michigan and always struggled with stylists getting the color I wanted. Courtney nailed it the first time. It looks absolutely amazing, exactly what I wanted. I look at it now(it has been 2 weeks) and still cannot believe she was able to pull it off. I do have to say it was not an easy task. Also, the stylist was great as well, but I do not remember her name.

I have very thick, long hair and have struggled to find a hairstylist who embraces length and knows how to take weight out. I scheduled a haircut appointment with Melissa and she’s completely changed my hair! Melissa specializes in long hair and cuts in a very unique way that creates movement and bounce without sacrificing length. This is the best haircut I’ve ever had, despite paying much more for haircuts in the past.

This is an incredible salon. The front desk staff is so helpful, welcoming, professional and kind. My shampoo head massage was incredibly relaxing!! I looked for years to find a salon that understood how to cut my wavy 2a hair in a way that made me feel happy. The quality of haircut I receive here is unmatched to any other place I have ever experienced. Can not recommend the stylists at George enough!!

I’ve been going to George the Salon for over 5 years and have only amazing things to say about their services: front desk staff is always so friendly and helpful, Megan is amazing at color and so funny and fun to chat w, and Kelsey is also amazing w cuts and so sweet. They are also always on time, which I feel is such a rarity in this business. Highly recommend!

I have gone to a couple different salons and nothing compares to having it done at George the Salon. Tanya is absolutely amazing, friendly, listens to and fully discusses what I truly want. I am very impressed with the products they use, Kerastase, the cleanliness of the salon, the professionalism and COVID precautions. Looking forward to my next appointment!

This salon is wonderful. Everyone that I have spoken to has been very friendly. It usually takes me a bit to warm up to a new salon, but I felt comfortable here right away. I recently started seeing Maud for cut / color, and she is amazing! She is so sweet and good at listening/interpreting what I’m asking for, and she exceeds expectations every time :)

Melissa Conley is amazing! I was nervous to use a new hairstylist in Chicago and she made me feel so relaxed and reassured. I came in with broken and damaged hair that was wayyyy to long. I showed her a picture of what I was looking for and walked out with exactly that. I won’t be seeing any other hairstylist again. I can’t speak highly of her enough!

I had a fantastic time here! The space is beautiful, and everyone was very warm and friendly. Maud cut my hair (pixie) and colored it to a bit lighter blond, and I absolutely loved the result! I went to a wedding that weekend and kept getting compliments on my hair :) Maud is amazing and I will definitely be going there again.

Great first visit to George the Salon! Amazing location. Beautiful space. Amanda did a wonderful job on my highlights! Only had a half highlight done, but she made it look like I had a full. Great conversation and advice on haircare and products for blondes. Everyone worked seamlessly as a team. Can't wait for my next visit!

I am absolutely in love with this salon. It was recommended by my sister in law and I went on a whim and haven't turned back. It has wonderful staff and a great atmosphere. My hair is very healthy despite lightning, and my stylish is very informative about my hairs health and quality. I can recommend this place enough

Can’t rave about Lauren enough! I just moved to Chicago, and this was my first actual salon experience, ever! She talked me through the haircut, and she certainly delivered. She saved me from the trauma I’ve heard so many others express when hunting for a good stylist, and I will be returning.

Great Salon and experience! Maud is the best. I have tried so many salons and hair stylist and they all fell short. She is professional knows how to treat the hair in a comprehensive manner. She is authentic and true to her profession. A rare find !! Highly recommend the Salon and Maud.

If you’re looking for a great stylist you can trust, and one that will make you feel so confident and happy every time you leave, I can’t recommend Michelle enough! She’s been so great in helping me with some hair challenges and offering the best solutions every time I see her!

A friend referred me to Megan and she was able to save my hair after another salon had damaged it with bleach. She really takes time to consult with her clients and understand what they need to have healthy hair and look their best! Very glad I found this salon.

If you want THE best haircut you need to see Maud! It took me awhile to find someone who takes the time and give a haircut that lasts so long. During covid my haircut Lasted 6 months and ive never received as many compliments. I promise you wont be disappointed!

Arlette saved my hair! I had a horrible experience at a different salon, and needed my color fixed immediately! Arlette squeezed me in, and even stayed late in order to ensure my color was corrected. I was blown away by the service and positivity at this salon.

I have been getting my hair cut here for about 4 months. Day always does an amazing job and is a great listener. He also gives practical styling recommendations and is very knowledgeable about products. The staff at George are also very nice and hospitable.

My coworker recommended Lauren for a trim and a blowout and I was highly satisfied with the service. Lauren’s bubbly personality and efficient skills make her great at what she does. I’ll be returning every week for her fabulous blowouts!!!

I always have such an amazing experience here, I cannot say enough good things. I get my hair cut by Lauren and not only is she incredibly talented but she is super kind and makes you feel right at home. She’s the best, I highly recommend!

No pictures because I'm a guy and just don't care that much...but the men's haircut and the overall aesthetic at the George is impeccable. The shampoo turns into a head/neck massage, and everyone there is friendly and eager to help.

I have always been happy with any and all services at George the Salon. I tried a new colorist today. His name is Ken. He was so full of new ideas and information. Even better, you get the equivalent of a massage with his shampoo!
