We have been eating at Ghazal for many years. It's been our favourite Indian restaurant in Jozi for over 13 years As Pescetarian and our favourite cuisine is Indian, we have tried all the Indian restaurants in Johannesburg. Ghazal is consistently the best Indian restaurant in Johannesburg. Their vegetarian menu is great and there's always lots to choose from. We always eat the Palak Paneer, Fish curry and Karhai Dhal with 3 Laccha Parathas. Today the food was exceptionally good. The rice was even super fresh. The Laccha Parathas are usually buttery and crispy. Just need to serve seperately to prevent steam from making them soggy when stacked on top of each other. They revamped the left side of the restaurant and looks new with a beautiful peacock mosaic wall. They are pet friendly too. So we always bring our puppy Charlie. And sit at an outside table. The service is usually very good. Loadshedding kicked in and they forgot about us as we were the only table outside, the generator came on but they didn't turn the lights back on, so we ate our meal in the dark. So when we were done eating in the dark, I had to go ask for the bill and pay myself. Attention to service could be better.
Tonight I had dinner with some colleagues, there were about 12 of us. The place looks very humble , but dont be fooled by the appearances. These Gents went out of their way to make our experience really pleasurable. Nothing was too difficult for them to assist us with, and we received excellent service and attention. Delicious tasty meals, huge portions that you will definitely take some home because you will not be able to finish it all. I would recommend this Restaurant to anyone looking for great atmosphere and Excellant service, and mouth watering variety of Currys Thank you Gents!

Covid-19 related 2020 update: Hats off to Ghazal team who takes Covid-19 seriously. Phone your order in and when you arrive someone comes out the restaurant to enquire with you, once you say pick-up, you are asked to wait in your car and 1 minute later your food and bill appears with the card machine. Tap to pay and I am on my way. Thanks Ghazal, I appreciate your Covid-19 protocols, which keeps everybody safe. Before Covid hit us post: One of my favourite things to do after work on a Friday is to firstly walk my dogs in the Lonehill park, and secondly to take a little drive in my little Mini down to Ghazal, in Peter Place Road at Coachmann's crossing in Sandton, to pick up my standard phone in order: x1 Medium Lamb Korma, x1 Medium Chicken Korma and X2 Garlic Naan with extra butter and garlic. Predictable but oh so delicious every time. Been a staunch Ghazal fan since about 2005.
We went for a dinner and had a fantastic time. The mood and atmosphere are perfect, the staff are wonderful and very kind, the food is exactly what it should be and of an incredibly high standard in my opinion. Overall a lovely restaurant that is highly enjoyable and most definitely recommended.

Spectacular experience. The cuisine is exceptionally well prepared, with very generous portion sizes. There is a real sense of authentic, flavourful and wholesome traditional Indian food to enjoy. Huge variety of curries - sweet and spicy, lentil or vegetable based, and lovely paneers too. The Masala tea is available on request and an absolute must-try. Truly heavenly brewed with all the classic spices and hearty milk. You can appreciate the attention to detail despite the service being really speedy. The atmosphere is very warm and homely. Delightful retreat to spend quality time with friends and family.

Very good and [hot] food. Some dishes take longer than others, I believe the Lamb Biriany was the case. Restaurant was crowded [a bit noisy (82dB)] became quieter at mid-end. The dinning room was Coltishall [main door was open], by the end of our dinner they brought a heater [too late, it should have been there from the start]. We enjoyed very much the food and the staff was friendly and efficient.

This is one of my all time favourite restaurants. PERIOD! I had not been for many years, because of ... Let's just say "adjustments" that took place ... rather unexpectedly. The food is as consistently marvellous ... as is the greeting and service by Jimmy and his crew. The Lovely Lady M's enjoyed a medium chicken Korma ... as did I ;-) And I enjoyed cubed Chicken Ristme on a stick ... as did Lady M's ;-) Preceeded by delicious onion bajas. Meet me there ... I will be back soonest! Book now ...
Very tasty and we'll served. We had chicken samoosas a paneer and lamb curry, garlic and peshwari naan. My only criticism is that the peshwari naan came topped with sugar whereas the ones I have had in other places come with raisins and coconut to give it it's sweetness rather than topping it with sugar.

This has to be the best Indian restaurant in Randburg and Sandton. Great food with service to match. The wine selection is plentiful and Jimmy remembered me even though I hadn't been there in 6 or 7 years. We had 3 different lamb dishes and all we equally tasty. Here is an update. I was back there today and honestly it is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to. I have been to a few a round the world and I will always make a point of eating at Ghazal. Thank you Jimmy
Listen... Anyone that wants to go here: you need to go here! This place is absolutely awesome. If I can recommend an authentic, culturally true, astoundingly amazing and well-serviced restaurant, it's this place. Trust me when I say these words... By the way, do yourself a favor and watch the movie 'The 100 foot journey', or read the book. You will understand the true beauty and meaning behind Northern Indian cuisine. Don't miss out. Ghazal for life! This place is awesome.
Cold weather. Butter chicken take away. Poppadoms. Years and years of eating Ghazals curries. Tasty, tender and the go to place for North Indian curry. You simply can’t go wrong.

First impressions of the space was that it's run down. From the ceiling to the floor, and the furniture, all had an aged look. If I wasn't there for a work function, I wouldn't have stayed. When the food came it was clear why people came there. Everything was tasty and well presented. The variety we had that evening was amazing. So, food wise, very good. I'm not sure if the menu we got was because of it being a business meal, but I found the prices very high.
We hadn't made a reservation as we didnt think it necessary for a Thursday evening dinner, but they were jam-packed (and with good reason). Even so, they were willing to assist and find us a table, and the service was so friendly! Not to mention the incredible food, which had my boyfriend and I both practically licking our plates! Was a lovely experience, will definitely be back.

This was a superb experience. Going back for sure. A wide choice of dishes on the menu. Reasonable priced. very good service and a nice peaceful atmosphere that you seldom find in restaurants these days. The food was very tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Indian food. You might want to be careful of ordering hot food. If you are not a real fan of spicy hot food you may want to stick to the milder options.
Excellent food, we thoroughly enjoyed our food, staff were very attentive and the many years it has been there is testimony to the restaurant. Can't be exactly sure but it has been there at least 20 years.

One of my top favourite restaurants in Johannesburg, and probably the best Indian food I've ever had. We always enjoy eating here. The food is excellent, where most Indian restaurants tastes about the same, these guys take it to the next level. The service is 10/10, manager is always opening the door for customers and waiters are very professional. Would recommend for eating in, or out as they do take away's.

We always order the paneer for veg or chicken maknee (aka Butter) hot flavour with garlic Naan, and a jug of Chai with Gajar Halwa dessert . Best combination for a 1.5 hour dinner. Very tasty, and still the same all these years and keep it that way. Service, manager and staff are still the same 5 star experience.

As usual, everything was good. Tried the tandoori fish just for a change, and would go back here just to have it again. Absolutely divine - not overdone, not overspiced, just perfect. If this isn't already ranked as the best Indian restaurant in Jhb, it should be. Parking is plentiful, and the nightclub next door adds life to the whole area without being intrusive.

Incredible food! Great venue! Ghazal's was never on my radar. That has changed. We ordered family style at our table and sampled each other's food - highly recommend this. Each portion is enough for an individual and the heat control is really helpful. Hot is hot! You can also ask for Durban hot if you're up for the challenge! Bring your fire extinguisher!

What an incredible Indian spot - possibly the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to! The chicken korma was absolutely divine and the lamb vindaloo was mouthwatering. Impeccable service and they made sure to observe social distancing during this COVID time. I won’t ever go to another Indian restaurant in Joburg again!
Great variety of Indian food....every curry has its own unique colour, flavour and texture. Love their Paneer especially in the Palak sauce. Their Makhani curries are amazing (slightly sweet curry) Only reason I'm giving a 4 star rating is because there was a complication with their chicken meat on this visit

We made a booking a week ago for mother's day. Extremely Disappointed! Service was very poor. Presentation was amateur. Not worth the price. It took them over an hour to prepare a cup of masala tea. Waiters did not manage the tables
