This review is based on 2 products and compared against previous ownership. I purchased a plain sausage roll and an American hotdog. Previous owners had a subtle undefined savoury flavour to their sausage rolls that was mildly tart and acidic, possibly due to the inclusion of onion in their recipe, the flavour was consistent throughout. The new sausage rolls are definitely flavoured with an addictive, most likely powdered beef stock. The beef flavour hits on the first bite! There is a slight inconsistency with the flavor, some bites you will taste herbs (appears to be mixed as I couldnt pin the exact herb flavour - close to thyme though) and others you will not. It is neither better or worse to the old owners recipe, but definitely different. Personally I prefer the old recipe, but I can see the appeal of the new recipe, a rich hearty beef flavour with unobtrusive changes in flavour tone as you consume. The price is fair, and I can recommend. The American hotdog was disappointing however. The taste is in line with you would expect from a hotdog - except there is a mild lingering bitter taste. At $4.50 it's slightly over priced for what it is, and at that price a packet of tomato sauce should be included and could compliment the flavour profile very well (who doesnt have ketchup on a hotdog?). The pastry for both products was superb - crispy, flaky and buttery, all expectations met on that base. Final comment: ownership has changed hands, recipes are different, but are promising. If you were a long time customer of the previous owners you owe it to them to give the new owners a chance or three! Discover the changes and enjoy them. If you are a new customer, this bakery is as good as any other that takes pride in their product. 4 star is based on American hotdog price and disappointment. The sausage roll is 5 star, as while it is different, it is enjoyable, flavorful, flaky, crisp and lovingly crafted.
I had a potato pie from here back in February/March 2021 and it was one of the best potato pies that I've had in a very very long time. Today I drove 40 mins to this place only to be told that not only did they NOT have any potato pies BUT THEY DON'T EVEN SELL THEM AT ALL!! MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. AND I MEAN MAJOR
New owners, food has gone downhill, they sell out in the morning and don't make any more hot food for the afternoon. Used to be great but now the worst bakery in Brisbane!
I enjoyed a meat pie and jam donut here. A great suburban bakery.
Lovely employees, great service, tasty cream bun :)
juiciest custard tart of my life
