Profoundly unethical, coercive, and cruel. We saw Dr. Gallienne and a vet tech at the front, Kayleigh, who were both cruel in different ways, and it is important that this be publicly available information. Please be warned that this may be difficult for some to read. Our kitty, Mandy, became extremely ill very quickly over the course of a few days. She was very elderly at an age of about 19 years old. She stopped eating and drinking, and gave urgent, pained meows. It was after hours when she fully stopped drinking, and we felt the situation was urgent, so we took her to this vet to see what could be done. We have money and were willing to do whatever was possible to save our little angel. Dr. Gallienne decided within 60 seconds of meeting Mandy that euthanasia was necessary, despite not bothering to give a diagnosis. We insisted on further diagnostics to determine if treatment was possible, since another assisting vet mentioned that if it was cancer, surgery could be possible in theory. Dr. Gallienne was resistant and disinterested in helping. She was profoundly cold, uncaring, and took an attitude as if we were keeping her from some more important work. Eventually, we lost trust in Dr. Gallienne and informed her that we would be taking Mandy home for a few hours while we looked for a different vet to take her to that same night. Dr. Gallienne proceeded to accuse us of animal cruelty and threatened to report us for this if we took Mandy from her clinic. In her mind, Dr. Gallienne had decided she wanted to use threats and coercion to get us to agree to allow her - a cold and cruel person - be the one to euthanize Mandy. There was no way that was going to happen. To add insult to injury, we explained the situation to the vet tech and informed her of our decision to use a different vet. This vet tech - Kayleigh - proceeded to lecture us on euthanasia before launching into graphic stories of euthanasias she had performed herself on her own animals. Disgustingly enough, she was slightly smiling during this. In all of my life, I have never encountered that level of cruelty. We ultimately left with Mandy, despite Dr. Gallienne's threats and protestations, and despite Kayleigh's sickening anecdotes. We then took Mandy later that same night to a different emergency vet in Mississauga (MOVEH), and they were very kind and compassionate. Unlike the staff at HREVC, the staff in MOVEH took the time to explore diagnostics, took scans, and assessed surgical options. Ultimately we discovered a diagnosis of metastatic cancer, which was completely missed by Dr. Gallienne. Sadly, because of the location of metastasis, surgery was not possible according to the specialist. They were very kind in giving us time to say goodbye and allow Mandy to pass away in a loving, compassionate environment with her family and staff that cared about us all. Dr. Gallienne and Kayleigh should not be allowed to practice veterinary medicine, and I fear for their future patients. We made a formal complaint to the clinic and received no response. We ask that if they do wish to respond, they may do so here or in writing via email. None of us could bear to speak to either of them by voice again, and HREVC is etched permanently into our memory as a place of cruelty and trauma. I want to note that this review specifically applies to Dr. Gallienne and Kayleigh, who were on duty that night. In past years, I've had good experiences with different vets here. The problem is that they have two cruel, coercive, incompetent, and profoundly unethical staff members who ought to be terminated for this. Until that happens, stay away from this place.
I would recommend if at all possible take your pet to another animal hospital. My wife took my dog in after he suffered multiple seizure. The estimated no more than $813 for initial accessment including tax. 30 seconds later when giving them the credit card information it changed to $947+tax. My wife negotiated back down. What they did was an IV to calm him, a blood panel, and a prescription for anti seizure medication. The blood work showed nothing usual, but purely based on what I told them over the phone they decided it was a brain tumor. Then next recommended step was a neurologist referral. Critically what they did not do is an x-ray. If they had for his advanced state a brain tumour would normally be visible. (We learned this from our vet later.) By five days later his state progressed to the point where we had to put home down. They carried him in to prep while we had to wait outside. The medication had changed his seizures to be more like panic attacks. The asked if it was ok if they could sedate him. I was expected a minor sedation so they could get him to stay on the table. But when they allowed me to enter the room it looked like he was already dead. His eyes rolled up so he couldn't see. No blinking or other motion. Just the slightest chest movement to so I could determine he was not dead. Possibly this meant he was severely sedated and having a seizure. Possibly it meant they overdosed him. So either he was in tent which too much muscle relaxant to show it, or already in a vegetative state. Either way, it was not the peaceful sendoff I hoped for him. Combined the bill for that visit was $650 without paw prints. The typical vet charges under $300 with paw prints. But it really is not about money. If they had done the bloody x-ray I would not have played the guessing game of if he would get better. I could have tried things like medical marijuana without fear of causing harm and maybe made his last few days easier on him. So it was a lot of money for treatment little better than no treatment at all. Edit: My wife tells me at first they insisted the blood tests showed kidney failure. So she asked for a copy of the blood tests. They looked at the test and pointed out two values within the normal window but on the low side, and then agreed that was just something to monitor and not indicative of the problem. I am still flabbergasted they did not at least suggest x-rays. That is standard procedure for initial triage of this type of issue. I am also sadly disappointed they didn't give us anything that listed the side-effects of the medicine. Typically a dog will survive about 69 days with a brain tumour. I can attribute half the symptoms that caused him to degrade so quickly to the medicine. Fortunately I knew that and could still make an informed decision. Most people could not.
I've used this emergency clinic several times over the years for my pets. They are amazing, polite, considerate, sympathetic and empathetic individuals who are on this amazing team of care specialists. They aren't only compassionate to the animals but to the owners of the pets who are struggling with different health issues. I had to go once again yesterday and I spoke with Nikki the Veterinarian Technician. She is in the picture below of this review. I had a little bit of an emotional breakdown and she was so compassionate and understanding to what was happening. I give her an air hug right now. The two staff members at the front desk for when I needed to arrive back last evening to pick back up my pet were Genevieve and Lauren. OMG! They were so amazing to all the people walking in with emergencies. They were keeping everything under control with politeness to everyone. I don't know how they were doing it. Last evening was extremely busy for all of them who were working, but had it all under control. Dr. Tina Rubino was my vet for yesterday but I've also had other vets such as Dr. Renee Bourque who diagnosed my dog having heart issues, after my dog was at the her own vets 10 days prior who never picked up on that. Today, my dog has congestive heart failure, and if it wasn't for Dr. Renee Bourque, we would have gone into other stages of the heart issues without knowing. Thanks to her, I was able to start immediate action for my dog who is one of the loves of my life and who is so important to me. I've seen Dr. Renee Bourque a few times and she is also amazing beyond words can express. Bottom line all the vets and staff are so amazing, and if your own vet is not available please take your pet here. Your pet will be in amazing care with caring individuals. Thank you to all the staff that goes into work at this emergency clinic on a daily basis. I know you have a very stressful job, and know we are all so thankful to have you even though you might not hear it too often. Sincerely, Chad St. Aiden
My dog started having allergic reaction for unknown reasons late on a Saturday evening and her face started to swell up in front of my eyes. I called every emergency Vet hospital in GTA and beyond and the only one that took us in within 30-40 minutes from time of the call was Hamilton Regional Emergency Veterinary Clinic. Not to mention they are one of the few Emergency Vet Clinics that are open 24/7 on the weekends, during the time when most are closed. Not to mention they offer a payment plan for those unexpected emergency costs that most pet owners aren’t ready for or have insurance coverage. They were quick to attend to my dog’s allergic reaction from time of her intake to release was 1.5 hrs (4lbs dog who’s allergic reaction could have been fatal) The Vet on duty provided my dog with the best care we received in a Vet’s office in a long time. They were more than reasonably priced as well and the Vet seemed very attentive and asked numerous questions about my dog’s diet, health history and more. I saw them care for 4 more animals during the time we waited for my dog’s recovery and update from the Vet, who was just super pleasant to speak to and showed a lot of love and empathy for the animals she looked after. I am extremely grateful to her for looking after my fur baby and making her feel better in no time. I would highly recommend everyone who loves their fur babies, who had an unfortunate matter to deal with to call this Clinic for any and all emergencies.
Took my dog there last night in the emergency. They tried to charge me over $2000 for exams, and other things. The lady didnt even finish the exam because she was stating my dog was being "skittish". I didnt agree with the pricing of the exam and stated that i will be bringing my dog to my normal vet in the morning and they called animal cruelty on me stating i refused medical treatment. Spoke with the animal control that called me and explained the situation my dog was having and that i would be taking him to my vet as they already been contacted by me. The animal control agreed with my decision and had no need to follow up anymore. This place is a joke. They treaten animal control in order for you too pay for there services. Not only that they diagnosed my dog with things that were not true. My dog had both bowls this morning. They had my wife and daughter scared saying my dogs gunna die if we didnt go with there procedures. Thats not right!. I do not recommend this vet to anyone. Find another emergency vet because this one will take your house and home and if you dont agree with them they will call animal control on you stating your cruel to the animal. For the record my dog is passing stones. And has been on meds for 3 weeks as prescribed by my vet and clearly if im taking my dog to my vet and i have been giving him the meds that were provided than i am NOT refusing medical nor am i ignoring my dogs health issues.
Recently moved to town and experienced our first major vet emergency on a Friday night. My dog is a “problem patient” that is extremely vet-phobic and challenging to sedate. The team here really went above and beyond for us throughout the weekend and were kind, supportive, and professional in every possible way; they set expectations and scope of what they could offer early and updated on any changes frequently. They were patient and creative in finding ways to work with my notoriously vet-phobic dog, and achieved much more with her procedurally than I would have expected in this scenario. They were able to provide much more thorough examination, diagnosis, and supportive care than they had originally anticipated/promised, and I was sent home with extra care supplies and reading material on diagnostics. They took the time and care to ensure I understood everything happening, and everything I needed to care for and monitor until next follow up. Super helpful to be ready and armed to update my family vet and move on to next steps for surgery prep first thing Monday morning. I’m confident we’ll have all the continued after hours support we will need from HEVC as we prep for and eventually recover from urgent surgery, and I’m so grateful to know they’re nearby and always available. Thanks to every member of staff for making a rough weekend a little easier!
I brought my sweet Kayo here 9 days ago. I had spent the entire night up with him; poor guy couldn't get comfortable, had laboured breathing and was lethargic. I was extremely worried as he was being treated for a condition like dog anemia, basically. His blood platelets had gone down to a serious reading of 45 in late November when the normal range should be at 148, at a minimum. In the 1st week of treatment he bounced from a 45 to 102 -- we were elated, but, as warned by my family vet at Headon Forest Animal Hospital, it might be short-lived. A week later, he was 103. Right direction, but not ideal, jumping only 1 point. Checked again 2 weeks after that: 113. Again, cause to celebrate but still precautionary. Then the night of January 4th happened, bringing us here to Hamilton Region Emergency Veterinary Clinu at 7:30am. The staff were amazing here: kind, respectful, patient and accommodating. I made the humane decision to put him to sleep after only rescuing him from Iran 2 short months ago. It's incredible the love generated in such a short time for these poor souls. He went peacefully asleep in their care while I held his paw and stroked his head. He was in so much discomfort but they took great care of him. I will miss him forever. So will all his previous rescue mommas from Iran.
I never write reviews, but I felt the need to write this one. Over the long weekend I had to bring my cat, whose normal vet was closed, in for emergency care. She was very sick. The doctors and staff did a terrific job of keeping me informed as to her status, advising me of the proposed treatment and its costs, and giving me adequate time to make a decision. They answered all my questions without making it seem like I was nagging them. After she spent a night in the facility, I ultimately decided to put her down as it was clear she would not be able to recover to live a decent quality of life. As this is my first pet I had no clue what the euthanasia process would entail, but the staff were incredibly helpful. In this COVID-19 time they let my family and I spend as much time with her as we wanted to say our final goodbyes and allowed one of us in the room as she was being put down. Is the service more expensive than perhaps your regular vet? Yes. But it’s absolutely worth it when you consider it’s a 24 hour facility with around the clock care and they have overhead expenses that they have to pay for too. On a statutory long weekend to boot. Anyways, thank you to the wonderful team for treating my pet with care and compassion in her final days. I highly recommend this clinic.
Expensive, as is expected, but they saved my boy. I brought my 11-year-old cat in for excessive vomiting on the 16th of February. He had been to a vet a couple days prior, but was not doing well. They took him in immediately and took care of him. The staff was so lovely, the entire time, even though there was a lot of crying on my end, as I was scared of losing my cat. Everyone there, from the techs to the doctors to the receptionists were nothing but amazing towards me and my cat the entire two days he was in their care. Not only that, they were very patient with me when it came to his take-home medicines and encouraged me to call with questions or concerns. The times I did call for assistance or questions, they were all fantastic, especially April, the vet tech. They even sent me photos of him while he was there to comfort me in the knowledge he was being taken care of, and let me visit him after he had been there for one night (Photo that was sent to me below). This place is amazing. I know some people are mad about pricing in the reviews but what do you expect from an emergency vet??? They were fantastic and I'm so glad they're available in my city for emergencies like the one I had.
The staff and atmosphere of the place was something incredible. I unfortunately came to this place at 1 am after my baby began choking on something. She unfortunately passed before I made it to the hospital, but they were quick anyway about getting her in and did everything to try and revive her. The vet that told me the unfortunate news was very kind. I sat in that room for an hour screaming at the top of my lungs and crying loudly from the sheer pain of unexpectedly losing my angel. Not once did a staff member come into the room to tell me to be quieter, nor did they judge me afterward. The staff member that came in after I felt ready to discuss options was very soft spoken, which I appreciated, and she was very good at explaining the different options and being quick when checking pricing while being so kind the whole time. When I felt ready to say goodbye, the staff member was silent while we all said our goodbyes and didnt rush us. I was also fortunate to receive a generous clipping of her hair and many ink paw prints. I truly appreciate this clinic so much. You guys truly made such a hard experience even the smallest bit easier for me. No thanks could be enough.
If I could give them more stars I would. My cat, Walter, fell ill overnight one night with a blood clot, and ended up needing to be euthanized. The moment I called to ask if they would help us, I was met with such kindness. They told us so come in right away. (It was 8am). During the very challenging time, they were so calm and compassionate. I could hear them talking in the hallways about “bringing the sweet boy to his mummy”. Hearing kind things behind closed doors, is a true show of how much they care about the animals and the humans too. I felt as if they were grieving alongside me. Everyone was extremely thoughtful and supportive. Two weeks later, and in my mailbox was a card from them. Every staff member had not only signed, but written a kind message (personalized as well!!), and a bunch of ink paw prints from my sweet boy. It was the perfect thing for my daughter to see and hear after struggling to understand her first “loss”. I am in absolute awe and wonder with this clinic and the staff. I truly hope they get all they deserve in this world, and I cannot thank them enough.
HREVC is an impeccable team. Thank you to everyone who took care of my sweet girl Willow. She can be a handful, and everyone was so gracious about it an did everything they could to lessen her stress and short temper during her 5 day stay here. She was not a fan of being handled even if meds were just being put in her catheter placement, so the staff added on an extension set to her catheter so it was as minimally hands on as possible so they didn’t even have to open her cage and stress her out. They sent me pictures overnight to ease my worries and even let me come visit her as often as i needed and didn’t make me feel like a burden at all. All of the doctors were extremely compassionate and patient with all of my emotions and questions, and discussed ALL options. I didn't feel like they were pushy at all and they made me feel supported in everything i chose to do for little Willow. Thank you again everyone, Willow wiggles her little tail in appreciation too. She is on the mend. I don’t know what I would have done without the wonderful and experienced team at HREVC!
On what had become a very difficult Saturday morning Hamilton Region stepped up and were amazing. Our pug had been dealing with health issues for quite some time and on this particular morning after a seizure in the night was paralyzed in her backside. We called our regular vet which is a "24 hour emergency animal hospital". Needless to say our 3 other pets will no longer be patients there as they offered no emergency help. We tried a few others but no one could see us unil the following Monday, except this vet, the staff asked how quickly we wanted to be seen and accomadated us immediatley. Dr Abigail Hill and the staff were wonderful and made the situation very pleasant. Thank you so much for helping us at a difficult time. It's been 2 weeks since that difficult day, in the mail we recieved a sympathy card signed by the entire staff ! Beyond awesome, thank you so much, it's such a beautiful gesture.
After trouble getting an emergency visit through the vets near me, including my family vet, I called Hamilton Regional Emergency and they were able to get my dog Allie in after she had suspected gastroenteritis. The staff was straight forward on what to expect and triaged Allie as soon as we took her in and gave us an accurate time frame on when she would be seen by the doctor. The cost was reasonable and the care was great. The thing I most appreciated was the empathy and encouragement to call the hospital whenever I wanted to get an update on my dog. I'm sure everyone would agree that having a beloved companion sick in hospital is a terrifying and anxious ordeal, but being able to call often to grt updates helped me more than they know. They were also quick to refer Allie to another hospital for surgery. I am pleased to report that Allie is home safe and sound and on the road to recovery.
To the Hamilton Region Emergency Veterinary Clinic. I write this review with a heavy heart as I have lost my child recently. I’ve had my dog 14 years, healthy happy and full of life. He recently got sick and I had to take him to emergency, this has been absolutely the worst experience I’ve had ever had to go through, with that being said I am very grateful and appreciative for the support empathy and care your clinic has given me. I am very grateful for the staff and their big hearts towards me and my family at this time I especially want to thank Jessica. There’s truly nothing I can do to heal the pain but I just want to thank her specifically and the staff for doing everything they could do for me and my baby Max. I am heart broken but I find peace in knowing my dog is in heaven no longer suffering. Thankyou all so much it’s appreciated more then you will ever know.
Though I had the unfortunate experience of requiring an emergency vetinary clinic, I had the absolute pleasure of receiving my cat's care from Dr. Gallienne. I cannot emphasize enough how articulate and compassion she was. Her expertise was evident, as she quickly assessed my pet's condition and formulated a comprehensive treatment plan. She took the time to explain every step of the process, ensuring I understood the situation and the options available. What truly sets this hospital apart is the genuine care and compassion that both the staff and the vets demonstrate towards both the animals and their owners. The level of transparency and communication was exceptional, and helped to provide me with peace of mind during the experience. I cannot recommend the HREVC enough and, in particular, express the utmost gratitude for Dr. Gallienne's compassion, expertise, and care.
I had to put my pup to sleep here recently and I bugged these people with calls for days trying to figure out the details. I must have interacted with 5 different staff and each one was kind an empathetic beyond belief to the hard decision I had to make. The vet who actually handled the procedure was kind and let me take all the time I needed with my dog Clare in her last moments. I truly appreciate the kindness they showed me. The procedure was also the most affordable of any vet I could find in the area. As a side note, if the staff cares to ever see it, attached is the picture of this ridiculous oil painting I had commissioned of my dogs way before this sad day ever came (Clare on the right). It originally started as a absurd joke, but now I'm glad to have this insane piece of art which will make me laugh and probably haunt my daughter for years to come.
I can’t say enough good things about this clinic. A few weeks ago, I woke up to my dog vomiting, and not being able to stand. I thought she had a stroke. I went to the clinic and, even though they were at full capacity, they were willing to assess my dog. The vet came out and said she had the equivalent of vertigo - a common ailment in older dogs. She gave my pooch a shot of anti-nauseant and sent us home. Many vets would have run a number of high priced tests costing me another several hundred if not thousands of dollars. My pooch recovered in a few days just as the vet said, without intervention. Dr.Tina and team, thank you for being caring, compassionate, an expert in your field and for showing a high ethical standard. This is the kind of care that all clinics should provide, but seems to be a rarity these days. Thank you thank you.
I had the most amazing experience with this clinic. I dealt a lot with Lauren and Melissa on the front desk. I was the sad lady that couldn’t leave her dog for too long so I brought a book and sat in the waiting room. They talked to me about their dogs and were literally the sweetest people to me. I could never thank them enough for making me feel so comforted in that moment when I was so heart broken that my dog was sick! Every person that I had the pleasure of meeting in this clinic was so sweet. I am so grateful for how well they treated my sweet dog. I literally can write a whole page about how amazing everyone I dealt with was, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone I had the pleasure of meeting and took care of my sweet girl❤️ I will tell everyone how amazing this place is! Highly recommend
Based on a telephone call of the GI symptoms of my 6 y.o. dog , we were told not to come to clinic as I had said I did not want x-rays if possible in an attempt to contain costs. Felt he needed IV rehydration, blood work and anti emetic and/or antibiotics. 3 loose stools ( no blood visible ) but unable to keep water down . Hyperactive bowel sounds. Dehydrated.Had managed to give him 30 mg Pepcid 45 minutes ago . Dumbfounded when told would not be seen because I said no x-rays. As a retired ER nurse , I cannot believe a refusal to treat at the detriment to my dog was issued. How dare you make that call without even a physical exam and based on a telephone conversation. Have called several times after post to speak with practise manager , my # left , and no contact made.
My dog was put down here. I ordered a paw print. When I went to pick it up. Reception was busy with a dog that had just come in. Said she would be with me in a minute. I was only person there. While waiting a couple came in with a dog . She totally bypassed me and started to check in the dog. I understand this is a hospital for pets. I would have no problem if she would have asked if she could check the dog in first. She had no idea why I was there. I guess because I did not have a pet with me I would not be giving them any more money so not worth bothering with. I had lost my dog there and really did not want to be there it's not happy memories. I just left without my paw print which I have already paid for. My husband will have to go now. Bad customer service.
The staff were very kind and knowledgeable and kept me updated all through the day when my cats were there. I feel that we received excellent care from the vet that treated my cats. Unfortunately, one of my cats needed to be euthanized (due to cancer), and they were very compassionate and allowed me to be with her when she passed away. I will forever be grateful of the opportunity to be with her during her last moments, and grateful to the staff for their kindness and compassion. This is not a place anyone wants to go to, but I'm grateful that they were there for me when I needed it. And to the kind lady in the parking lot who was also in the process of losing her kitty, thank you for your kind words. You were truly a ray of sunshine in a dark day.
The best experience I’ve had at a veterinary clinic/hospital. I brought my cat here on Thursday after a horrible experience at a different clinic with the hopes of finding the root cause of my cat’s vomiting. The vets at this clinic went above and beyond to figure out the problem and when they realized it turned to surgery, they helped by calling around to find a hospital that would accommodate my sick fur baby. Not to mention the front desk staff that assisted me with my bill when my cat got discharged, went above and beyond to make sure I had all the correct information. I greatly appreciate the service provided to me and my cat and will surely come back, if ever there is another emergency (hopefully not too soon, haha). Thanks again!
Thank you so much for doing the surgery for my cat so well!!! He ate a piece of fabric and I really appreciate how doctors and staff treated the situation. They tried some options to push it out naturally but at the end, instead of charging me even more and getting nowhere, they advised to do a surgery. They updated me on each step of the process, called me when I asked them to let me know when the surgery is done even though it was through the night. They had no problem answering all my questions. Also, really appreciate that the receptionist sent me a picture of my cat. He stayed at the hospital for 3 nights and I was very worried about him, so she offered that which made me feel so much better. Happy that he is safe now!
Words cannot describe how amazing the staff is here. We had to let our fur baby go and everyone was so kind and respectful, they even came in to say say there last goodbyes to our dog because he was there so many times prior. One of the hardest days of mine and my families lives and they made it as wonderful as they could. Our sweet Rocky had to be put down 6 days before his birthday and we asked if his ashes be to us before then, they said they would try and sure enough they made it happen for us. I can't thank the wonderful staff enough for everything they did for our family. Highly recommend everyone to take their pets here because they are in the best care with such a loving staff. Thank you again! The Spadafora Family
We recently had an incident with our dog, she had accidentally come down hard on a branch while on a hike, a fairly large stick ended up impaling her paw from the bottom and out through the top. We were greeted and triaged right away when we arrived, with the staff being very kind and professional with me and our dog. She was seen and treated immediately by the doctor, we received a couple calls during her treatment with updates and I was also offered a couple different options for her treatment based on what we were comfortable with financially. Of course it ended up being a little more money then I expected to spend that day, but overall the quality of care and customer service we received was well worth it.
Wow wow wow these people that work her are truly amazing starting from the receptionists the doctor the technicians and today the surgeon !!!! Unfortunately we lost our little 10 year old Georgie we were willing to spend the $14k for surgery but they all told us are u doing it for yourself or for Georgie because he won’t live a dog life . This was the hardest decision we ever made because this little guy was our family and for 10 years he brought us joy and happiness. Please if you ever need medical attention for your pet yes u pay more but well worth the money from the minute u walk in !!! Once again thank you to the entire staff love u guys!!! We know our Georgie went to heaven thanks to this stafff!!!!
MOST of the staff were amazing. Two of the vets were terrible. The first vet didn't do what she told my vet she would. Over $4000 later, the 5th vet told me it had to be done. He talked to admin and gave me a quote which was a little cheaper than the original. Out of original budget now but I gave the go ahead. Three hours later the next vet gave me a much higher quote for same procedure. He said it was because a specialist was doing the surgery. I told him the new quote was now too far from my original budget and I didn't want an orthopedic surgeon to remove a fb but he didn't budge. The next day I took my dog to my regular vet who did the surgery. The two vets are the kind that give others a bad name.
Just recently I had an emergency happening with Church, my cat. He looked very sick. I had to take him here because all the other hospitals were booked up. Anyways the vet seen him and the diagnosis was cancer. I had to put him down because of his old age. Even after healing him he wouldn't have made it. So I got them to do it. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. They made us very comfortable. They comforted me during this bad time and I was very thankful. I would like to thank the staff at Hamilton Regional Pet Hospital for everything that they have done for Church and myself. Church is now playing with all of the other cats in a better place! You guys are awesome! In loving memory!
Since February I have unfortunately seen myself and each of my geriatric dogs in need of emergency medical care and in both cases we were treated with the utmost kindness and compassion. We lost our old golden boy in February, in the middle of the night due to a cardiac crisis and we were treated with nothing but love. We received the kindest card with signatures from all of the staff and one of the techs made us a special pawprint. On the next occasion a few weeks ago, our old girl was hospitalized over the weekend and with lots of great care and sweet updates she pulled through. She is gaining strength with physio and we are so happy to get more time with her. Literally amazing people.
My husband and I took our precious dog of 14 years to this location when he was very ill and weak. Our dog had a heart murmur which we knew about and was not eating, drinking or acting himself for a week. Deterorating so quickly. He could not stand on his back right leg and it just slid out from under him. We attempted pain medication but did not solve the other health problems. We made the difficult decision to put him to sleep as we knew he was not doing well. This vet was so compassionate, kind and showed so much love to us. We are forever grateful for the care they showed to our fur baby and support they provide us during a most difficult decision and time. ❤
My cat came down with a sudden illness so I took her to this clinic. The receptionist was very kind and attentive. The doctor handled my cat with kindness and care. After her initial diagnosis, she advised me on my cat's current state and my options. I did not feel pressured into taking the more expensive options and the doctor was very honest about the options plus the state of my cat. I had to put my cat down, but the staff and doctor were very comforting. They are pricier than a normal vet but they are an emergency clinic. Be aware of that going in. They gave my cat and I what we needed, and for that I am grateful to them.
Called ahead and brought my dog in because he swallowed a rib bone. After 3.5 hours of sitting on a hard plastic chair, they finally did the Xray. By that time the bone could have easily passed into his intestines and been a fatal incident. Surgery was the only option because they didn't have the right tool to snake it out through his throat. $4500 later and another 1.5 hours on the hard chair, they didn't have enough medication for him so I had to make another trip to my own vet the next day. It would have been a lot cheaper and a lot less harmful to my dog if you had the right equipment to treat him properly.
I brought my dog, Nala, here as she seemed to be having a severe anxiety attack, they ran tests and found out she had pneumonia (she had no visable symptoms). There was a miscommunication on their part and they did not start my dogs antibiotics. They found out over 12 hours later they did not start the IV. By the time they realized, my dog had already started to turn purple. All of her other tests came back unremarkable. I had to put her down as a result of their neglect and poor communication. Now, I'm stuck with a $3500 vet bill and a dead dog. Do not take your dog here - or you will be leaving without one.
Sadly we came here when we found our senior cat passing away one morning. We took her here and they were wonderful with us and her. They made her comfortable and allowed us to be with her as we said our goodbyes. They also made us footprint cards for us and our daughter as well as some cuts of her fur. Today (a week later) we received a sympathy card with personal messages from all the staff. They truly made one of the most awful experiences a lot easier and I'm so thankful. Especially to Lindsay who went above and beyond for us. Our old lady may be gone but I'm so glad I was able to be there with her.
I brought my cat suffering from respiratory issues into these guys, and within 12 hours they told me to put my cat down due to him having a terminal condition. A terminal condition that has a life expectancy of months to YEARS. They practically traumatized my girlfriend by telling her she needs to put our cat down immediately, that she was only prolonging his suffering. It's been 3 months now and with a different vet and some incredibly cheap medication he's completely stable, with a good looking long term prognosis. Basically, if you aren't ready to kill your animal, don't bring it here.
Dr. Jackie Gallienne is probably one of the most beautiful animal doctors I have met. She took such good care of my Great Dane Janis, who is my whole world. She walked me through everything they were testing her for, options available and kept me up to date all day. You can feel her compassion and love for animals. I am so grateful that when Janis needed medical care and had to be admitted Dr Jackie was there as her angel doing everything in her power to make her better. I am currently writing this while I lay on the couch with my puppsie. Thank you so much, I cannot thank you enough. ❤️
I am so impressed with this emergency vet! The receptionist Melissa that I spoke to was so patient and understanding when I called in about my dog. When we got there my daughter was so upset and Melissa took the time to go to the back and take a video of our dog for my daughter to see that our dog was ok. She went above and beyond and you don’t see a lot of that anymore. Thank you Melissa and the workers for not only taking care of our dog but also easing our minds that our dog was ok. I highly recommend if you need good emergency care it’s worth the drive as we came from Burlington❤️
We had to take our beloved cat Ella to the Emergency Clinic late on Sunday night. Every staff member we dealt with was so lovely. Although nothing could be done to help Ella and ultimately we had to let her go, the staff couldn't have been more patient and kind. I wish I could remember the vet's name that took the time to explain everything so thoroughly with me, but in my fog her name has escaped me. Thank you! Today we received a hand signed card by all the staff, this personal touch was such a lovely gesture and brought so much comfort. Thank you for your care and kindness. ❤️❤️
I cannot explain how fantastic the team here is. We had to drive in from Niagara with our cat last night after 2am (no local emergency vets available) and the staff here probably saved her life. They saw her quickly, the pricing was appropriate for after hours care but reasonable in my opinion and they were all so caring and attentive to not just our pet but to us as well as we were very distraught. I wouldn’t think twice about bringing my animals here again if need be, thank you so much to everyone from the veterinarian, to the techs and office support.
Super friendly doctor, explained everything what seemed to be wrong with my cat. Honest and trustworthy. Explained the expenses and what was covered so no un expected surprises. The only thing I would improve on is how they communicate with filling consent forms and sending estimates. I was sent 2 separate emails with the information I was waiting for and no one called me to say they sent an email. I only check emails in am and after-dinner. So it was too late to get in to see them. Other than that I like their COVID proticals. Thanks for everything.
HREVC are a truly caring team. I brought my English Mastiff Bubbles into Dr.Tina Rubino with GDV/Bloat, and she tried with great effort to rescue and save his life. Ultimately, he passed on from shock and complications from the GDV.. Tina's team worked with us through compassionate/after care, and offered a very fair invoice for the services rendered. She has truly earned my wife and I's eternal thanks, though we may not have been able to show it at the time. You and your entire team are a blessing from the lord. Thank you. Zach, and Ashley.
Had to take my cat here for an emerg visit and I don't have a single complaint about the amazing team! They were very communicative even when there was a delay for a more severe emergency they informed me, kept me posted and allowed me to leave my cat to grab a coffee. My favorite part was the fact that the vet was very open and was not pushy with any potential areas to charge more. He is doing much better now and while I hope I don't have to bring him again any time soon I know exactly what team I will go to and will suggest further!
We took my cat to this clinic late one night due to a medical emergency. Unfortunately, he had been sick with a heart condition and took a turn for the worst. We had to let him go that night. The staff was excellent - so caring, rushed him back to examine him and administer pain meds making him as comfortable possible. Such a great team, and they even sent us a condolence card in the mail a couple weeks later. Above and beyond with the level of compassion shown during a very difficult time. We thank them so very much.
Our puppy Charlie was referred here because he ate 3 rocks. They were very professional from the surgeon Dr. Renee to all the nurses, techs & reception people. The receptionist took the time to send me a picture of Charlie recovering at 9:30 at night just to make me feel better. They cheerfully answered my many phone calls & were very kind. It was expensive (and Charlie and I have talked about him getting a job) BUT & this never happens, it was $300.00 less than their lowest estimate. Cannot recommend them enough!!!
We took our cat here when all the emergency vet clinics in our area had 9+ hour wait times. Within 30 mins of arriving, our cat had already been assessed by a vet tech and deemed stable. The vet saw him a few hours later (there were several critical care patients that required her immediate attention). He needed some x rays and blood work, and the vet worked with us to figure out what the best course of action was. She was incredibly compassionate and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this clinic!
Very impressed with the care and service provided by this clinic. I had to bring my cat Ozzy in twice for emergency visits while his regular clinic was closed. The reception staff were so kind and understanding, we were able to get Ozzy in quickly, and all of the doctors who saw him over those two visits were very honest, compassionate, and did a great job talking us through concerns, treatments, updates, etc. Thank you so much to all the amazing receptionists, assistants, technicians, and doctors!
The staff here is phenomenal. I came in on a Sunday night with my kitty Pfeiffer whose paw was injured. They were great from start to finish. Kayleigh (please forgive me if I don’t have the correct spelling!) in particular was so kind and thoughtful, and gave me several updates throughout the time I was waiting because she knew I was anxious. Pfeiffer is such a nervous kitty, and she was in such great hands with the team here. Thanks to everyone at this caring and professional clinic!
I'd want to thank Hamilton Region Emergency Veterinary Clinic for taking such good care of my beloved cat, Maya. Maya needed to go to the clinic at midnight on a Sunday evening over the long weekend. There was nothing we could do for Maya at the time; we lost her due to blood clot. But I consider myself fortunate to have Dr. Ali there and make the decision with him before she suffers much. I'd like to thank everyone in the clinic for remembering Maya and sending us a card later.
Absolute butchers!! They are charging outrageous prices and they are not a referral clinic with specialist!! Just regular vets that are charging criminal amounts of money!! Laila had blockage surgery and died 5 days later and the surgery was $6700!! Performed by a regular vet! 24 hours after her diagnosis!! Don’t be surprised if this doesn’t end up being reported to OVC! Absolutely would NOT recommend!! I wish Laila had been taken to another clinic. She would still be alive!!
HREVC is absolutely amazing. We had brought my cat and they quickly identified he had a blockage in his urinary tract, along with bladder stones. The receptionists, vet techs, and doctors all kept us updated very frequently on his procedures, his health, and overall well-being. Every single staff member we had spoken to was so kind and understanding, they also emailed us pictures of him in their downtime. We believe they provided the best care possible for our cat!
My cat was dying and injured on Saturday night and I called this vet. I understand they were all full capacity, but the girl answering the phone in the after hours was very rude to me and hung up on me while explaining what was wrong with my cat. When I called back she denied it and was extremely rude to me. They are not compassionate at all when someone is crying about it their animal, my cat died that night. Customer service here is awful wouldn’t recommend.
I had to rush my puppy there in an emergency. They took me in right away. Unfortunately my puppy had passed away by time I got there due to a freak accident but all the staff were very supportive and kind during my visit and my emotional state. They had a quiet room to spend my last moments with her with no time constraint. I wish my puppy could have survived , she would have loved to meet everyone..but I thank them for being there during this difficult time.
I am not usually one to write reviews but felt compelled after the amazing experience we had at the HREVC. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. We saw Dr. Gallienne and she was truly the best veterinarian I have ever encountered. She was thorough, informative and most importantly extremely compassionate of the situation we were in. Very thankful for the care we experienced here, and because of it our cat, Bowie, is now back to his usual self :)
It's true that all Vet places, including emergency locations are at capacity with cases and often, short on staff. That's what a pandemic gets us. However, even with that, they were able to see our little guy. Immediately, we knew that this was the place to be. The staff is just amazing. I think that we picked the right time of day, because the complete visit was nowhere near as long as we expected. All I can say that this is a great place.
One week ago today I lost my beloved Leo at about 2AM at home I have never experienced a loss of a pet before the team here made me feel so comfortable they were very sincere and understanding. They let us take our time saying goodbye a couple days later I was able to pick up Leo’s ashes… they beautifully wrapped everything and now today one week later I received a beautiful letter in the mail. Thank you so much to everyone at the clinic!
Melissa and Lauren were amazing. We had a horrible experience at the Niagara Emergency Clinic and ended up here. We were treated with the utmost respect. We have never had to use an emergency clinic for our pets before and after being refused and treated the way we were at Niagara we were distraught at the situation we were in. Melissa and Lauren helped us through this time and made us feel like our pet mattered. Thank you for what you do
All the staff here are amazing, kind, they even sent me pictures of my little baby being cuddled by them. The doctors (Dr. Ale and Emma) were great, they explained all the options and the costs, and even tried to get costs reduced for me. All the technicians were so kind (special shoutout to Lindsay and a young man I don't know the name of) and all were very helpful. Front desk staff as well. Great emergency clinic in my experience.
Emergency you pay the price.. Full examination with Gabapentin prescribed (helped so much) and 2 cans of their wet dog food was $270. The food helped to hide the pill and worked great!! My dog couldn't jump on couch amymore and always laid on the floor for a few days and couldn't wag his tail. NOT LIKE HIM.. He goes 180% always. Till I took him to the Emergency Vet Clinic. Still have to do follow up with Vet.. Hope this helps...
My dog was very ill. They made room for him to be seen right away. And took the best care of him. I believe I still have my dog today because of their amazing care. A vet assistant sat with my dog for hours trying to calm him and his heart rate. The vet was very respectful of my financial situation as well. I definitely could not have asked for better service and care for my dog. Thank you to everyone who works here!!!!!
My cat passed away suddenly without any warning signs, the doctor and staff are so thoughtful and compassionate. They allowed us to stay in the room for a very long time and today I received a card in the mail signed by the entire staff, never have I seen a team that goes this far for clients and animals. Thank you for caring. Thank you to doctor patty, I am currently in vet school and I want to be just like you.
i went there first time and Last time worse experience in my life I didn’t mind long waiting promise on call lady doctor wasn’t very nice to us or my family pet she wasn’t even going to check him out after we waited over 5 hours she said he looks good now he wasn’t finally she checked him he needs pain medicine hurt his 2 back legs might need surgery. if you love your furry friend don’t go there in emergency.
We found our little dog in the field and thought he was dead from the horses. We rushed him into the emergency clinic and within no time they were able to ascertain that he had had a neurological event and it was not the horses at all. He got excellent care, we had excellent reports and excellent customer service. They were efficient, kind, courteous and professional. I couldn't recommend them more highly.
Very friendly and accommodating! Called around midnight, our cat was having trouble peeing and they got him in right away. Kept us updated throughout the night. Dr. Forbes was calm and sympathetic and took the time to explain all the details and was patient with any questions or concerns! Vet techs were very helpful as well! (sorry my big guy was a vicious nightmare, I swear he's really sweet at home lol!)
I don't know how they did it but they made my 11 hour stay pleasant on a very busy night. Great, thorough, compassionate care, and I appreciate that they didn't push us to do added testing but approached things from a common sense angle. Lindsay at the front desk was beyond helpful and her beautiful and warm personality made the whole night so much more bearable. This is now my go to ER veterinary place.
Charged us over $1000 for tests on our cat. Then pressured us to euthanize. We walked out. Cat improved the next day. Our regular vet redid tests and confirmed our cat had been misdiagnosed. *** Update: Sept 5 2023 *** This next weekend marks the 5 year anniversary of when this place told us our cat was terminal and would need to be put down. She is currently healthier than ever and living her best life.
I will never in my whole life forget the humanity and kindness of this clinic. The doctors and staff here are quite honestly some of the most proffesional, kind, and understanding humans i’ve ever spoken with. We were frantic and not easy to deal with but they are filled with grace and heart and were able to take our nightmare experience and lead us to the light. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
I am not surprised to see such a high Google review average for this clinic. Today this team took what was a stressful, scary and upsetting situation and did everything they could to help. They were polite, kind, patient and sympathic to my concern. Most importantly they were thorough while reveiwing my dog Eddie, and I'm confident he'll be feeling better soon. Thanks for looking after my little guy.
My dog rocky went in, he was very sick Twice and they took care of him with love and care. All the way To the end. I would like to thank all the doctors and the staff for all there extra work, gentle love and care for rocky. he passed away on Sunday With all of the family and the wonderful staff That took care of him till the end thank you again for your hard work. God bless you all
Amazing Vets & staff that really put your pet first in providing the best quality care for emergencies. A HUGE thank you for taking in my cat last minute, after having a horrible experience and wait time at another vet clinic. They were able to see my cat and provide the necessary surgery that same night. Keep in mind that the cost will be on the higher end of the quote.
I’ve had two experiences here now, first visit was a rushed emergency because my dog ate a plastic grocery bag and second visit was to let my senior cat cross the rainbow bridge. Both experiences were great, staff is so nice, they care so much for the animals and very clean. They we beyond gentle with my senior cat and made every last moment count that I had with her.
Where do I start? I made a phone call to this clinic after driving around from St Catharines trying to find someone to look at my dying kitten. When I spoke to the young lady on the phone she was very sympathetic. They took her right away and made me feel at ease. Thank you so much. Pocahontas is doing much better. She is a true fighter and back to her playfulness.
We dealt with this clinic at the end of our precious cat's life, and they truly provided one of the most kind, compassionate experiences you could ever imagine... I was blown away by the care, only to be surprised later by receiving the most touching sympathy card from their entire team. Beyond all expectations, and our family will always be beyond appreciative.
Recently I had to lay my sweet kitty to rest. I have to say, the entire staff were kind, compassionate and attentive. The quality of care is top notch, the staff is knowledgeable and more than willing to take the time to answer any questions you may have. You can tell their passion is vet medicine by the way they treat your pets as if they are their own.
I cannot say enough about how great the people are who work at this office. Respectful, empathetic, caring, and genuine human beings. You went above and beyond while my family dealt with the loss of our dog and I will forever be grateful for the care and effort you took to make it as comfortable as the situation could possibly be. Thank you so very much!
The staff are caring and considerate. Over the years, we have had to say goodbye to two senior cats and the vets and technicians here treated them gently and with much love. We've also come here for random cat and dog issues such as UTIs and other infections and our pets received the care they needed. Thank you, HREVC for your skill and diligent care.
Three months ago my dog wasn't feeling well. We spoke over the phone and the staff were so helpful and suggested we bring him in. They took my dog in right away, assessed him quickly and got back to us. Even though we had to make the hard decision to put him down, they let us have our time with him and everyone was amazing and very comforting.
I unfortunately had to bring my cat in, very quickly he went from okay to not okay. While this was worst case scenario for me and my fur baby, this team was so empathetic and honest during this heavy time. It was very important to know he wasn’t suffering and they did their very best to do this and communicate every step of the way. Thank you.
Brought my dog to be checked out after he was attacked by another dog. Staff was so kind and compassionate. Thankfully my pup was ok and just sore. I really appreciated the time the staff took with him to make sure he was comfortable before examining him. Thank you for your help and compassion on one of the scariest nights of our lives.
Wonderful caring people. Took my little dog in after she was attacked by 2 big dogs. Luckily she only needed a few stitches. They treated her like a princess. Explained everything carefully. They even trimmed her fur around her face which wasn't part of her injuries. She was due for her beauty salon appointment. Thank you!
The staff are very kind and caring, very helpful and love animals. I brought my cat Marvel here and the workers were fawning over him, it was so adorable and it made me happy to see people who care help my fur baby They gave us a baggie to take home with Marvel's name and the Avengers symbol haha! …
We had never even gone here before but so glad we did. Our final hours with our cat. Couldn't have asked for a more compassionate and caring team to see us through a difficult time. Allowed the Goodbye to be that much more manageable. Treated us as though we'd gone there for years. Highly recommend.
Story about my dog KoKo she had to get surgery to assist puppy out and to get her fixed, they explain what to do what not to do and there a call away and open 24/7 there line !! They where lovely and they where very patient and understanding ! my KoKo is healed god bless them for saving her✨ …
I took a newborn puppy to this clinic at 9am because it was not doing well. The clinic called me after 5-10 minutes and said the pup would not make it because of a bad heart ☹️. I was given the deceased pup back in a pouch and a bill for $437.00. My new vet charges $120 for an emergency visit!!
We brought our cat in today, and although the outcome was heartbreaking, every single person treated our cat and us with immense compassion and caring. Thank you for providing us with quick, compassionate, and understanding care. It is greatly appreciated and has meant so much to our family ❤
Outstanding service, great communication, very informative, transparent on costs, and always available. The crew in this clinic saved our little kitty. They were kind and compassionate and discussed the various options at each stage of the process without ever rushing us to make a decision.
We brought our puppy here after her spay incision opened and our regular vet couldn’t take her in. They provided our girl with the best care and comfort! The doctors and staff were incredible throughout this difficult time. We are so grateful we brought her to this clinic!
We took our senior dog here in April because he was struggling to breathe in the middle of the night. Despite being at capacity, Lindsay and Dr. Rosca were able to accommodate us and provide life-saving treatment. Several months later and he is still happy and healthy.
All of the staff at the HREVC were wonderful. They were all both extremely professional and exceptionally compassionate, at a time in our lives when we needed it most. Thank you for helping us through a very difficult time, and for all of the hard work that you do.
Thank you so much to the staff at HREVC. We brought our baby Maggie in last night to be put down. The staff was great and very compassionate and respectful of our feelings. Thank you for allowing my husband, son and myself to be there as she took her final breath.
We brought the love of our life in and they did thousand’s of dollars of tests and found nothing. Their only solution was more tests. They didn’t notice his dilated one eye or his twitches and head tilt that indicated brain tumour. Do not bring your sick pet here!
Been here twice so far, with our puppy Blaze. They are incredible humans, so great at their customer service.. beyond my expectations (calls afterword etc).. just lovely vet techs. 10 out of 10 for sure. Ty so much for loving Blaze and for all your patience.
I can not rave enough about the excellent service and love my Portia received when she had to stay for 3 long days due to leptospirosis. She is back to normal and we can not thank you enough. Great staff and lots of updates were given couple times a day
Took my baby here earlier today, the staff was great and our vet Dr. Gallienne was great, so informative, and so caring knowing that we didn’t have the biggest budget for our elderly dog. Friendly receptionists, very clean, and I 100% recommend.
I was comforted by their kind, caring and compassionate staff. I was touched by how well they treated my dog and me in the last hours of his life. They handled the difficult situation with such warmth. Thank you to the staff working that night.
10pm I was told by a closed 24hr vet that this place was my best bet. When I arrived I witnessed 2 family members frantically attempting to enter a locked door by communicating to staff on the phone. When I was able to connect with someone,
Brought my kitty here that I had for 16 yrs… she was hurting and on her last days, The vet, Dr. Codrington , was very empathetic as well as his staff when I made the decision to put her down. The staff was also great in this difficult time,
We were referred here by another vet for my cat Henry. I was shamed by our referring vet and was pretty upset upon arrival. I was a wreck once I was there. They helped me in every possible way with payment options and even apologizing for
Me and my girl Opal had the best experience with the hamilton region emergency vet. The staff went above and beyond in everything they did. Although it was an extremely rough and long night for everyone not only did they care for my girl
5 stars all around. My dog suddenly got very sick and declined completely over a 4 day period. The staff/vets worked for 2 days straight running tests to figure out what was wrong, instead of giving up on her. Unfortunately she had to be
