"HSOA is a wonderful place to visit, I have visit many schools over the Years & I consider HSOA the best! The quality of work the students create is truly remarkable! Credit has to be given to Isabel, the teachers & the staff, who are always working hard to make the school the best! The teachers are very concentrated on the work in helping students, so be a little patient & enjoy the Cafe, they will talk with visitors & guests after classes! Absolutely love the place, Good Luck to everybody fortunate enough to attend the school! Yours sincerely, (Latestbanda expecting everything now on Youtube)Kevertonkevana@gmail"

I have been privileged to come to two HSA events on its premises in the space of a fortnight. The first was an exhibition of the work of Jane Burrows. Her often mischievous monotypes on a seaside bathing-beauty theme were displayed in a sunlit room whose ambience perfectly suited these refreshing and cleverly simple works. This event whetted my appetite for the end of Foundation Course celebration in the following week which confirmed my feeling that this was a truly nurturing art school that won the hearts and energies of its students. When I learned from the Isobel Langtry, the Principal, of the threat of the impending closure of this school, such a beating pulse in the artistic life of the area, I sincerely hoped that its necessary funding target would be met.

Surprised to read these positive reviews. I enrolled for a term and I felt I wasted £300 - I didn't learn much and the teacher was unprofessional. They do not allow you to have a free trial, and I can see why. My experience might be due to the teacher. He acted like he hated his job and was bitter about life and his career. He kept talking about himself and showed little interest in his students and their development. I'd like to question his skills too as he would give advice that made no sense - such as that we should only paint really fast, like Monet would. I give 2 stars because he was occasionally funny and the building is good. I would not go back, save your money (or research the class and teacher you pick!)

I think Hampstead School of Art is wonderful. I have been going to classes there for 7 years and am now doing the Foundation Diploma. I have gained an enormous amount and become far more creative. The tutors are very skilled and experienced and able to guide and develop everyone from the beginners to professional artists. It is very friendly and there is always something new and interesting happening. It really is a very special place.

We have found the HSA a real asset to the area and beyond. They have provided a great deal of help to our library directly with pictures and equipment and indirectly by supporting our events. The school is an amazingly efficient place with happy students supported by keen staff. If things are not perfect, remember it's a charity - the intentions are good and honest. We know, as we are the same.

This used to be a charming Victorian house with the souls of many artists. Unfortunately it had to change into a modernised block thanks to the signature we all gathered (because the developed wanted to close it up). It is an asset to the community. More clarity in its management would be beneficial.

Been taking classes part time for several years at HSOA. Painting, ceramics, jewellery. Lovely place, very talented teachers at very reasonable prices. A jewel in north London. Come and see for yourself. Lovely café as well where you can enjoy exhibited arts for students and local artists.

Choose the right course and you won't be disappointed. You'll struggle. You'll swear. You'll wonder how people can do it. But persevere and you'll have an experience that's priceless. I started here when I retired and despite some setbacks, I've loved it. Keeps you alive and stretched.

At first it seemed like a good school, but an incident occurred which can only be summed up as gross negligence. They have children in the school and then allow almost naked models to be painted in the building. My child was exposed to seeing a naked model. Avoid at all costs.

Wonderful. I've never painted or drawn since I was 12 many decades ago. I went to a beginners class then on to a more advanced class. The teachers are patient talented and teach you everything from mixing colours, applying the paint perspective etc. After 2 years I'm not bad.

I called to get information about a course, the women said "well I don't know it, it's in the computer, how much is it important to you? because I need to open the computer for that" lol we did not enroll of course.

Superb Art Gallery with very good lighting and a great cafe. The Artwork on display at the moment is by Atsuko Saito who is a very accomplished Japanese artist living in London. Really precise beautiful paintings.

  • Fiona Wilson

Very enjoyable. Lovely atmosphere, staff couldn't be more attentive and the standard of teaching is excellent. Great opportunity to work alongside and learn from practicing artists.
