It’s a really cute store with a retro vibe in a historic Whyte Ave. building, full of charm. But don’t let its neighbourhood bike store, laid-back feel fool you… the Hardcore staff know their stuff and can walk you through your next purchase with expertise. When your new bike comes in and is assembled, they do a very detailed fitting with you and your bike, making sure the ergonomics of the machine suit your particular build and body perfectly. They weigh you in your bike clothes and shoes to make sure that the compression of the suspension is just right for you. They tweak the handle bar height and angle so that your shoulders, wrists and back are comfortable and they tweak the handlebar length. They adjust where the gear and brake controls sit to make them work for your hands and wrists. They get your seat height just right, up and down, forward and back, not only so that your feet touch the pedals at the right height and angle, but so that there is not as much strain on your news. Most importantly, they take TIME with you. They go to extreme lengths to make sure that you are very happy with your purchase or your repair, and that you will love your ride, new or old. You never feel rushed. However, it is not just in new bikes knowledge that they excels…. they have done countless emergency repairs for us right when they happen! A few times they have saved my husband on his commute from downtown to the southside when he ran into trouble. They really go the extra mile for their customers! I just can’t say enough about the experiences we have had at Hardcore over the years. Step into their store, become a customer, and you will be one for life!

If I could give more stars I would! I purchased my Trek Fuel Exe from them and had an awesome experience. The fitting had the bike feeling the best, Steve took great care with ensuring everything was perfectly set up in the cockpit. Beginning of the season I had a bike failure that caused a broken arm and that's when Steve and Rowan shone! Steve made sure that anything I needed was taken care of, we took the bike in and Trek took it back and gave me a new one. Throughout Rowan kept in touch and always let me know where things were at and was totallyon top of responding to any inquiry I had. I was within my first year crash replacement for my helmet and they made it such a painless process to get a new helmet. With my ride wrap going with my old bike they helped facilitate a credit and as I was healing we were able to get the ride wrap replaced. I can't emphasize enough how caring everyone in the shop is. Steve had us do another fitting with the new bike just to make sure the transferred measurements were actually right. Scheduling was going to have that appointment be a few weeks out and Rowan made sure I got in sooner so I could get back on my bike. From mechanical to purchases, I can't recommend this business enough. This is definitely my shop of choice!

Honestly, I’ve had such a great time with Hardcore Bikes. It started with servicing my old bike - that truly was difficult to ride - but they worked with me on things that would help me gain confidence as a commuter before I was ready to invest in a new bike (like studded tires). When I was ready, they were so helpful in selecting a new bike, and patient while I looked around and checked prices elsewhere, ultimately choosing to purchase with Hardcore because they are so awesome with customer service. The bike we chose has met all of my needs, and they even ordered in a few specific items so I could get the aesthetic I wanted. (Not at all essential to the performance, but made it feel like a very personalized and custom experience.) Anytime I need a service - or to ask questions about what I can handle myself - they have been knowledge, quick, affordable and friendly. My only challenge is that they are a bit far away from where I live, but I never regret making the trip, and neither will you.

EXCELLENT SERVICE - OUTSTANDING CAST OF CHARACTERS.I recently dropped an aging MTB off for an inspection. I asked the Hardcore team to inspect the bike and provide guidance. To ride or not to ride was the question. Sage counsel was provided and a decision was made to rejuvenate my trusty 2 wheeler. The sales and shop teams were very courteous. They were diligent in sourcing components and communicated each step of the way. Pricing was most fair. I am pleased to report the project was a complete success. My wheels are turning again and I cant stop grinning. I must honestly say this has been one of the best retail experiences in my very long history of consumer interactions. I had both my bikes inspected and serviced. The inspections were very thorough, detailed, and honest. I have been to other shops where they just say you need a fork service, a new chain, and brakes. Here they said my seals seem to be leaking slightly, the chain is at 80% life left and the breaks have about 30% left. Very detailed and leaving me in charge to decide if it is time to replace or service certain parts. Also the way they schedule appointments is far better than most. You get the bike inspected anytime, then from there you decide what/if you want service or parts and they will schedule it for a later date when everything you need will be ready and you bring your bike for the appointment and its done that same day. In the meantime you still have your bike to ride. Everyone there was very knowledgeable and honest. Looking for the best solution for you and your needs. I will be going back here for a long time

I went in Saturday to test out a bike that I had purchased online to make sure it was the right fit. Rowan was the guy who helped me. He was amazing! Him and the tech guys! Rowan showed me a few other comparable bikes cause I wasn't sure about the size of the bike I had initially picked out. After trying the others out, he was able to help determine which one was best for me. Him and the tech guys had also adjusted the bike I wanted 3 or 4 times by swapping out the handle bar stem and seat post and seat until it felt right. And each time after an adjustment, I took it out for a quick spin outside on the bike lane behind the store. Rowan was very knowledgeable and was very patient with me. He wanted to make sure I was happy with the bike before I left. I am so very happy that I bought my bike there and would recommend anyone who wants to buy a bike to go there. I'm in my second decade (!) of shopping at Hardcore Bikes. I couldn't be happier with how well I have been treated over the years. Not only have they sold me some great bikes, but they've worked on bikes purchased elsewhere when the need arose. The staff even helped me find a new bike in another shop when supply chain issues made getting the right bike for my goals through them impossible at the time. The whole crew has been great to deal with, and longtime staff member Steve Martins even helped me as a crew member when I attempted my first 24-hour race, getting my bike ready to go for each lap even when I wasn't ready myself. Steve, Mark, and Barry have always looked out for me as a cyclist for as long as I have been shopping at Hardcore, and the new generation of staff are just as conscientious and helpful. Edmonton cyclists are lucky to have Hardcore Bikes.

This is a really laid-back, welcoming, inclusive, and friendly group of folks. Unfortunately, this is not the type of experience that is typical for this industry. Many of the smaller shops are a bit pretentious, and the bigger ones are a little too corporate with watered down service and employees that really aren't that knowledgable. At Hardcore, however, you can expect expert advice, and a great experience every time! Their mechanics are best-in-the-city, and they always have time to lend a hand. Often, for the little stuff, they can do it right there on the spot! Shop rates are reasonable, and they'll usually educate you throughout the process. Don't waste your time and money trying out the other shops, just trust me, this will be your favorite shop, so just skip the hassle and start here.

I only started frequenting Hardcore Bikes during the pandemic though I'd been meaning to go for years. Due to the pandemic, they were quite low on bikes whenever I was there, but there were plenty of other things to check out. Customer service is good and I was particularly pleased with my last visit when a sales associate went above and beyond to provide me with the information needed to make an informed decision. I look forward to checking out their selection of bikes this year or next when the pandemic bike craze settles down a bit. Note to first timers with cars: there is parking in the back and a space or two has always been available whenever I've visited, but it can be a tight squeeze.

I had my dream road bike built by the good folks at Hardcore. Though better known as a mountain bike store, they were awesome building my road bike. Working with them to source parts in a very difficult market to build exactly what I wanted took time, but they were fantastic to deal with. I didn't feel talked down to as I'm not a pro, and I didn't feel intimidated by their team because I don't have >3% body fat. And in the few instances I could find things faster than they could privately they were understanding and responsive. The goal wasn't to maximize their profit but to help me build my dream ride. Rowan was excellent at keeping me updated and helping to build exactly what I want.

I got some great advice from a lady there yesterday! Far better than the other nearby giant bike shop, where they seemed to just want to make a sale instead of explaining bike features to me. Thanks so much! Years ago I also had my hydraulic brake lines flushed at this shop and it worked out well for me. The mechanic even suggested what may have caused the problem in the first place (so that the problem doesn't happen again). Hardcore bikes rocks! They know their stuff and treat you as a fellow enthusiast, not just as another quick sale. I trust that they will only sell quality bikes too, where some shops are happy to sell low quality affordable ones to make a quick buck.

Thanks to Alannah at Hardcore Bikes, I'm now the stoked owner of a Marin gravel bike! She was super easy to talk to, answered all of the questions I had about the fit, and made a great recommendation for the type of tires that would better suit my needs — which they were able to quickly swap out so that I could pick up my new bike later that day. (Having ridden it everyday since I bought it, I have absolutely zero regrets about my purchase!) Everyone else on the Hardcore team was super friendly and helpful too — if you're looking for a place to purchase your next bike, then this is the shop for you. (They also stock Crowsnest Coffee, which is a definite bonus!)

I brought my bike in in the spring for some work. It was skipping on the sixth and seventh gears on the rear gears, along with a bunch of other issues. Unfortunately, I had to leave the province before the bike was ready and I didn’t get a chance to ride it until a few months later. To my disappointment the problem persisted with the gears although all the other work was done beautifully, the main issue had not been addressed. I brought the bike back in, and explained why I was unhappy. Not only was it fixed within two hours, they charged me nothing for the labor. The shop very much does stand behind their work. Highly recommended.

I like this place - feels like they really know their stuff. The shop is fast, everything they've done for me has come out great. Last time I was in there for a tire swap, the guy taking it said 'any other issues with the bike', I said no, as I was leaving I thought rats, I should have mentioned the squealing front brake to him. When I got the bike back an hour later, the tires were done and they had noticed and adjusted the brake. I'm not saying they'll magically catch every issue even if you don't tell them about it, but the fact that they caught this and did something about it, I thought was pretty cool.

Really happy with the services I received from Hardcore Bikes - the team did a great job servicing my bike, including swapping some parts, and I can't wait to ride it again. It was no nonsense, upfront, and great service I also picked up a gift card for my dad who needs to get himself a bike and I hope to be back in your store right after Christmas to get him one. What really impressed me about the store is the sales associates' knowledge and attention to detail - they discussed fitting, helping a new bike be comfortable for my 68 year old dad, among other things. I have been coming to Hardcore Bikes since 2016 when I got a Marin hardtail. My experience with HCB since that time has been nothing but fantastic. The staff from the owner, to sales to the fabulous bike technicians is second to none. Emerson has kept my commuter and hardtail in tip top shape for all these years. Steve just sold me a gorgeous Trek Fuel EX 9.8. His extensive knowledge of bikes really helped as we wove our way to the right match for the kind of riding I do. I can't say enough positive things about HCB and would highly recommend them to anyone in search of new wheels!!

I brought my old Giant Carbon XTC bike in on a Saturday morning and was happy they took it right in and put it on the stand. While I was waiting a bunch of other bikes showed up and because they weren’t sure where the klicking sound came from they asked if they could keep it and call me later. Which they did with a new bottom bracket and some maintenance on the freewheel pawls. No more klicking. In and out same day! Another time I came in with a klicking sound and we tried a few things before switching out the pedals. Sure enough the pedals were the culprit.

Really great local bike shop. The staff who work here really love bicycles. They are friendly people doing great things for the biking community. They fixed my chain and bled my brakes when I stopped in on a Saturday morning even though they were super busy. Kenneth (the mechanic) threw it up on the stand and started working on it without hesitation. I really appreciate it because I had a group ride within the hour. They offer yeti, trek, bmc, and a host of other top brands. Worth checking out if you are near Whyte ave area or are passionate about bikes.

Hardcore made picking my first gravel bike easy! I told Steve what type of riding and surfaces i was going out on and he gave me 3 options with a strong recommendation to go with a custom built Hakka. It took me about 2 weeks of google r&d to take his recommendation and am i ever glad i did. The bike is perfect for what i want to do which is road bike rides on gravel. Steve nailed the drive train and wheels and after 3 rides and a few hundred k i can say that its perfect. Looks pretty darn sweet too. Sorry my first review some how pulled up old text!

It's not what they normally do, but I was so grateful today that their staff agreed to look at the weird clicking in the wheels of my child's stroller, and found the piece of gravel that had gotten into the brake mechanism and that would ultimately have really damaged the wheel. A competitor hadn't even wanted to look at it for me since they weren't familiar with the brand of stroller; here, they solved the problem in 5 minutes. I know it wouldn't always be that easy, but I really appreciated that they were willing to check it out for me.

I ordered a new bike from Hardcore Bikes. When I came in to pick it up, the staff were very detailed and thorough in adjusting the bike to fit me better, explaining everything I needed to know about maintaining my new bike, and setting up my bike with a couple of useful accessories. As well, the inclusion of a free adjustment after 10-15 hours of riding, as well as a coupon for a minor tune-up were really helpful and generous. Overall amazing service, and I'd definitely recommend Hardcore Bikes to anyone looking to buy a new bike!

Hardcore bikes always makes visiting them a seamless and enjoyable experience. When I went to buy my bike there 2 years ago, I knew very little about bikes having always bought my previous bikes off of online marketplaces, but Steve made me feel at home and never pressured me and found my PERFECT bike - it was honestly like Cinderella putting on her glass slipper! Since then, the team has always made me feel welcome and remembered me when I come in for tune ups. I honestly wouldn't send anyone anywhere else for a bike in town.

I dropped off a sad bike, a while later I picked up a happy bike. Staff were nice. Location is great. Part prices were shockingly good. Had I done the repair myself (not nearly as well) I'm not sure I would have saved very much as I would have paid far more for parts. They didn't treat me like the bike idiot that I am. Also, they suggested reasonable improvements which mean my bike is now a better bike than when new. Basically, the bike is now better than new. They even cleaned it really nicely. Thanks a bunch.

Brought in my shock for fixing, told the guy the exact sound it was making so they said it would need a full rebuild. Got it back and was doing the exact same sounds as it did. The bike is basically brand new with under 12 hours of riding. Took it back and they did a bleed on the chamber and a hour later it was ready for pickup as the sound went away. So basically paid for a full rebuild that wasn’t even needed. I chose them as they had great reviews but guess my lack of knowledge led me out near $140.

I felt really well taken care of at Hardcore. Steve spent a lot of time helping me and making sure I was comfortable with the purchase. I never felt pressured to make a decision. I did have a couple issues with the bike but when I took it in they didn’t give me any grief, just fixed it quickly at no cost so I could get riding again. The service is top notch and right out in front of you. They take the time to work with you and address any issues. I would definitely buy another bike from Hardcore.

Came into the store with a mindset of a bike I looked up online that had good reviews. Fairly new to biking, so sales rep asked why I choose this bike and what kind of conditions I might be exposing it to. Ending up buying a much better bike for the conditions I told him and I’m glad I did. The bike is excellent, and rides smooth and fast. It can daunting to go into a specialist repair shop like this, but as someone with beginner/intermediate bike repair experience, I had the complete opposite experience. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful! I went in to get my rear derailleur fixed thinking I was going to spend ~$200, and they fixed it up with used parts for ~$70. I would recommend Hardcore Bikes to anyone who wants their bike fixed/tuned! P.S. there is free customer parking in the alley!

Have taken my mountain bike elsewhere and have been continually disappointed. My friend suggest I bring my bike here and they far exceeded my expectations. They addressed all of my questions, fixed every concern, and even fixed things I hadn't brought up. I felt like they treated my bike as if it was their own, which I really appreciated. Highly recommend, very very happy with the service, and was done way faster than I anticipated too.

Hardcore Bikes is an amazing locally owned bike shop. I came in to have my six year old bike tuned and properly cleaned for the first time. The guys did a fantastic job and it rides like a dream. They do a quick check up prior to servicing to see what may need replacing, servicing, cleaning, etcetera, but they are not pushy. I will happily return for further service and when I am in the market for a new bike.

A top drawer bike shop. I wouldn't shop anywhere else. The store is small but they have a great selection of bikes, parts, and accessories. Everyone in the store rides, so they are experts and they have solid, practical advice. I have bought 3 bikes from them, the last one was a frame up build: the whole process was great - from spec'ing the new bike, to pricing, to fitting. Best bike mechanics in the city.

I love Hardcore Bikes because Steve or in fact any one of the staff there never look sideways when I bring in my old bike and are they are always very helpful and willing to offer advice and order parts to help keep my bike spinning even though it is an ancient clunker. Hardcore Bikes is also a great place to go for a quick fix for a flat! Excellent Covid protocol as well to keep us all safe. :)

Customer service is excellent! The staff helped me pick suitable bikes, brought the bikes to our house and picked up our older bikes for service saving me multiple trips back and forth. They made sure the seat posts were cut to fit the kids and delivered them and switched the seats out for more comfortable ones. If I have a problem I feel confident that I can just drop by and they will help me.

Hardcore Bikes has the best bike service, by far, compared to any other shop I've been to. They take the time and care to give you exactly what you need, and try to find the best deal always. I recently upgraded my wheels to carbon, and Steve went the extra mile to get a warranty credit on the stock rims for me. Service is usually next day. Best bike shop in town, bar none.

My rear axle seized up completely during a trail ride, and I figured I was in for a drop-it-off repair -- Barry (Service Dept) took a quick look at it, said "do you have time to wait a few minutes", and I left shortly afterward with the problem all fixed (plus a couple other quick tuning adjustments) very reasonably $, and more than ready for next week's ride! There is no better bike shop in the city. While the quality of bike selection is first rate, it’s the personal touches that have made us loyal customers for years. No other bike shop takes the time to ensure that the bike you choose is perfectly suited to your needs, right down to an extensive personal fitting session. Other bike shops may be bigger but none are better!

I was looking for a new bicycle and it turned out that due to the supply chain problems you have to wait for months in order to receive it (Trek FX3 in my case). But these guys were able to find out one cancelled order and it took only a month to get it delivered at my door steps. The whole transaction went very smooth and was done professionally. Highly recommended!

Can't say enough good things about these guys. Once again I went in with what could have been a huge problem with a big price. Once again, they looked at it right away. Instead of having to replace a crank because my pedal was installed improperly and it was cross threaded (my fault). They retapped it and sent me on my way in less than 10 minutes. Highly recommended!

Easily one of the most competent and engaged bike shops in the province. A small, but carefully curated stock (compared to bigger stores) and highly knowledgeable staff contribute to a very positive experience. This is an awesome bike store! I needed a more comfortable seat for my mountain bike and they were great about asking thoughtful questions to get the right seat (one that fit properly, rather than a comfy cruiser seat). I feel that as a woman, I’m not often taken very seriously in bike shops and this was a breath of fresh air.

10/10 interaction, I will never go to another shop now. Everyone was really friendly and was able to help me out on the spot. After another shop had been rude to me for having a vintage bike and quoted me 75% higher than what I paid here it was nice to go somewhere that just wanted to help me get my old girl back on the road.

Mark's sizing advice proved to be bang on. Got my bike a month earlier and it was assembled a day earlier than expected. Steve provided excellent advice on customization, accessories and tune ups. All my last minute changes were completed before I was ready to leave the store. Out riding the same day!

Rowan was super helpful helping me pick a bike and even the accessories. I was initally pretty intimidated with all of the options for bikes but he was very informed and answered all of my questions. The staff guided me through some parts of the bike and were super quick with installing the parts.

great place! had some problems with getting my pedals fixed by myself. Next to getting my new pedals installed, I complimentary got some air on the tires, some oil on the chain and even some adjustments to the brakes as there was a slight problem that could potentially have been dangerous for me.
