River was nice, only had a few spots where it got really shallow. We floated in some fishing float tubes from Newsom to Hidden Lake which on the map is only 3 miles or so and it took us 7 hours! It was our first time so we fished it pretty heavily and we're pretty much only moving by the current but it took much longer than expected. Fishing was ok, slow at first but got a decent smallmouth and a decent spotted bass by the end of it. There are lots of over hangs, cut outs and trees in the water so everything looks good to fish. A kayak would be preferred as it will get around a little better and quicker.

A beautiful and quick historical stop for the traveling history lover. Plenty of parking with easy access to the mill's interior, all fenced in for safety making an easy viewing experience even for those with small children. However, if you follow the small grave trail behind the mom down to the river, there are no fences preventing one from falling in, and there is also a spot where you can walk out onto the dam portion, completely at your own risk. Parents might wanna keep one hand and two eyes in energetic little ones on that side on the mill!

Convenience at a plus perfectly placed Nestle near the main ways. Upon approaching cruise under and through to the otherside being met at an abrupt left or right. Small as it may be it has space enough to explore stretch legs hear water flow see the wildlife breath the air see the sky & experience life in a walk once was a way of life for those before us. I enjoy ever aspect allotted me, I took great pleasure in every second I explored I took each step steadily and slowly. Visualizing the past that once was so busy here.

It's really small for a state park. Not a great place to get miles in for a walk. But a nice place maybe to lay a blanket out and picnic. There are a few picnic tables but I don't know if I would grill out here or not. I didn't see any pavilions you could rent. But we did sit by the water for a little while. There's a lot of gnats so I'm not sure that you'd want to hang here

Love the fresh air and negative ions. The water at the old mill is beautiful. It's a lovely short drive there from Bellevue/Hwy.70 and the trees arching across the road gives it a romantic feel. Great place for an afternoon picnic. Great place to social distance and enjoy the wildflowers and rush of the water! My only deterrent, the mosquitos and distant traffic sounds.

This is a nice little historical location we found just by driving around one day. It's a perfect place for a picnic or to swim. There are also hiking trails nearby that we weren't prepared to take. The information gives a pretty detailed history of the mill. The porta-potty bathroom was surprisingly clean. Perfect for a tranquil afternoon.

My friends and I love this place. I fish there, kayak, canoe and just float down the river in a tube. The rangers that come by are very friendly and informative. The park is always clean and family friendly. I've caught catfish, small mouth and plenty of long nose gar. Go check this place out and get some fresh air.

Great historic area. I would've given it 5 stars, but there's a HUGE traffic hazard. Just pay the old white house, you have to drive on a one lane, under a bridge, and NO ONE looks, or hardly even slows down. It's super dangerous and there's no one patrolling the place or doing traffic. Watch or going both ways!

It was a nice park but I was expecting more trails and guided pathways. If you want to fish, swim, or canoe this is a great place for you. I however don’t. Should have known by the name it was primarily a river but it was still a great experience. I would suggest better map instructions though.

Was surprised to see the mill with so much. Usually I visit mills with little to nothing left, mostly ruins. This one is in pretty good shape along with the grounds. There is even an old bridge that is being restored by the Boy Scouts.

  • Nathan Warrick

A great place for family outings,, and a look in to the past with the old structures still standing,,theres also a good amount of hiking trails and clearings here,,so its also i good place for a picnic.

It's always cool to get to know local history. It was unique to be able to walk down the cement water exhaust and be able to feel like you were in the middle of the river without getting wet.

  • Ty Savarino

Very historic with panels of facts on sight. Good place to take the kids swimming. Very peaceful. Quiet, save for the occasional train. It isn't a very big park though

  • Ron Benoit

This place is so historically interesting that its not funny. Parts of the original mill are still here. I jeard its good fishing off the beeak. Really neat trails.

  • Kevin Goolsby

Very pretty! It is very small park mostly for fishing and some picnic tables. The abandoned mill has two platforms for viewing the few remaining mechanical bits.

  • Billy Robison

Interesting structure. So unfortunate that federal interstate destroyed the original house nearby that took so much away from the full history of the site.

Do NOT attempt with an RV... there is a bridge that has less than 10' clearance. This is not posted prior to turning onto the narrow winding access road!

  • Jeff Beard

Nice place to have a picnic and the fishing's supposed to be pretty good. It also has river access for canoes or kayaks that is pretty easy to get to.

  • Mike Van Schuyver

Newsome mill is small park. A few picknic tables and the remains of the mill right on the Harpeth river. Beautiful spot but did kot catch any fish.

  • Ray Knight

Very quiet and serene. I like sitting on the spillway and watch nature and people. The old Mill from the 1700's still has the outer walls up.

  • Jen Cossairt

Love, love, love this quiet beautiful little place! So peaceful and Serene! Awesome place for some awesome pictures for any occasion!

  • Steph Ma

Was expecting more trails but it was nice to let the kids just run around but not close to the water stream/current is dangerous.

  • James Blalock

Beautiful location hidden in history, many indigenous people lived here before we took their land. Many stories about this area.

  • Sharon McCurry

Interesting from historical perspective. Ruins of Grist Mill that was built in the 1800's. Small park with a few picnic tables.

  • K Vitale

The history of this place was interesting, but the vibe was odd. It was like people were dressed as actors...really strange

  • Nathan Fields

Beautiful historic area with a entry point for canoeing or kayaking. Also some informative historic signs at entrance.

  • Cary Ryan

Not a lot to see here but a nice little slice of history. Canoes can be put in here for going down the Harpeth River.

  • TJ Jones

Chill spot, but not as quiet as you'd think with all the diff roads near... kayaking and tubing is the way here!

  • Erin Urban

Quiet stop on a long trip. Really nice. Shaded, peaceful and easy to get to and from the interstate.
