What to say about High Park Zoo? First of all, I really like zoos. It is great to be able to see animals that it would be otherwise impossible to see and get to know out in the wilderness because it would be very dangerous. On the other hand, I don't like the whole part of keeping them in captivity, but sometimes it is needed, especially when talking about endangered species. The zoo at High Park is humble but it was so cool to see so many animals I don't get to see in the US or other zoos I have visited. The zoo is tucked away in the center of the park and you can hear no vehicles whatsoever, except for the internal golf carts that the employees use. It is really cool that you can get really close to the fences and take really close up pictures of the animals. The information cards are really good, detailed yet to the point, so they don't make it boring and the illustrations are funny too. I would really recommend this for when you are itching to go outdoors because you can also go walk around the rest of High Park, and also if you are trying to keep the kids occupied. They are also fundraising to expand the park. I added a picture of how it will look once they finish it. Oh, do NOT Feed the animals. Leave that for the professionals. Go check it out!

A place one should visit at least few times a year; and our family we are. Park your car near park's restaurant or on the road (it is busy, very busy there, most of the year to find a spot). There have plenty of animals, for a such small park, such as peacock, yak, bison, mountain goat, Scottish cow, just to mention few. Kids love to look at them, take pics like mine, talk to them, admire them every second; all for free, as there is no entry fee to get in there. Well, the park ask nicely to donate some if one can. It would be sad one day if this place will go one day. All people, small and big really enjoy of being there. Usually, parents going to the playground using the road, where this zoo is located and they going back the same road, making their kids double happy to interact with animals again. Yes, I recommend this place to all people; and once you see this place, will come back soon.

This Zoo is a good visit for nature lover. It give you fresh air with the numerous trees. You can have a great exercise waking around the scenic trails. Make sure you have a proper foot wear for the walk. The gate is not open to vehicle on weekends. I parked on the street. Weekdays however it is open for vehicle to enter. It is a great place for everyone but more so kids. Lots of people were walking their dogs around the park. And many used their bicycle. You can take your own bicycle or rent one on site. There is washroom, water fountain for drinking and a picnic area with shed. Most of all the entrance is free. You can donate towards feeding the animals. Lots of seats along the way. On the downside there are few animals and the directional signs can be improved as well as the maps. I would recommend weekdays visit since the street parking is very limited if at all available.

we went on a day where the llamas weren’t open to public sob the zoo was pretty fun, it was free so we didn’t expect ANYTHING and all in all it was a nice experience. love the doodly information boards and the vast space allocated to each animal, makes my little heart very happy. the fact that each enclosure has toys placed in it and ample space for the animals to hide if they wish is also super endearing. it was a little hard to see some of the animals, with the double fenced lining in some enclosures, and some of them weren’t out and about, but the baby cattle was adorable. made up for everything else. do note it’s quite a small zoo, so do plan other things to do when you’re done, there is the rest of the park to see after all. -broke college kid

Best place for kids to see live animals rather than a TV. Calm and quiet place with less crowd. During Summer Zoo timings starts at 11am and ends at 7pm with last entry at 6:45 PM. You have few varities of animals. Currently you can find lots of caterpillars so be careful with kids while walking through the zoo. South entrance is currently closed, so you need to travel to north entrance near Granadier cafe. Parking is available and no entry fee to this zoo. One of the good location to spend a day with kids for someone living near Etobicoke, downtown . There is a childrens play area nearby and a pond too

Such a great (free!) zoo to take our daughter on the weekends. We usually stop at the Grenadier Cafe first for breakfast, and then walk down to the zoo. In warmer weather on weekends they setup a petting zoo where you can feed the lamas and capybaras, as well as hold chickens and rabbits. Sometimes you can also watch them walk the lamas up and down the road. The zoo is open in the winter, but if it's really cold some of the animals won't be outside. There's a great playground at the bottom of the hill too. Really a wonderful and inexpensive way to spend a couple hours on the weekend with kids.

Love High Park Zoo, and my favourite animals to visit are the capybara and peacocks. A capybara from HP recently went rogue but was thankfully found! I love watching those little guys playing in the water. There’s bicycle parking near the restaurant, but often cyclists will bring their bikes through the zoo since it’s a bit more convenient than locking up the bike when you plan to ride around after. It’s incredible to have grown up with this park and still be able to enjoy it (free as well!).

We visited the zoo on a weekend and were pleasantly surprised to find out that admission was free. The zoo offered the option to donate funds to support the care of various animals and birds, which we gladly took advantage of. While we initially had some difficulty finding parking, we eventually found on-street parking and had an overall enjoyable experience. The zoo also had food trucks available, which offered a great selection of ice cream and other delicious snacks.

a nice little Zoo hidden inside of the High Park. There are llamas, bisons, Highland cows, mouflon sheep (that actually look more like goats than sheep). I also saw a beautiful peacock and emu. I believe there are more animals that stay indoors during cold winter months. I wish there were better signage - it is very easy to pass the path that leads to the zoo without realizing it's right there. It is absolutely free (donations are welcome). It is not too far from the Colbourne Lodge/Grenadiers Cafe. a great place for kids.

  • Frooty

Nice little zoo. Good for toddlers and kids to walk and watch animal, the collection might seem limited but very much enough as all bigger sized animals, easy to spot and see for kids. It is outdoors, so it is good to dress according to weather. Animals you can expect are : Yak, Emu, Llamas, Capybaras, bison, different sheep, peacock, etc. there is a parking lot very close to Zoo, so if you park there, it will be easy access.

Really surprised that there's a free zoo in the middle of high park. We saw llamas, deer and mountain goat. For a second I thought the mountain goat was a statue until it moved its head. I was so pleasantly surprised and then realized that the mountain goat was true to it's name - it climbed the top of the little wooden shed. Wish they had more animals. A beautiful spot to visit in the fall!

I finally found it and loved it! I can't believe there is a small zoo here. It was very nice and quiet walk through. My husband and I had a very good time seeing peacocks, bison and my favorite llamas. Plus its not a far walk to bloorwest village to grab some food and coffee. There is a BBQ shop in high park as well. We brought water and food as we knew we be outside for awhile. I honestly had a good time here and will probably be back because I love animals so much.

  • Greg Smith

This is a fantastic location to visit! These animals are well-cared- by the staff and they appear to be happy and healthy. The creatures they've selected to host are small enough to fit in a small zoo or enclosure. Ducks and geese can be found in the vicinity. It was fantastic! You can visit the bunnies and llamas on weekends and pet them under the supervision of volunteers. I believe there are plans to improve this zoo in the future, so you may see some additions.

  • Mustafa Shubbar

It's a unique place to visit for family, we liked the kids' wooden playground. The reason I gave 3 stars is the disorganizing of entrance to the main park and the zoo itself. There was a sign on the site stating no parking at weekends, so we parked outside. After a good walk to the zoo area, there was another sign telling all the people that this entrance is closed, come from the north gate near "whatever" café. Otherwise, everything was good.

  • Sheryl Love

Brought my son with friends here and had such a great time, you can see the animals are well taken care of, the enclosures are clean and there is lots of food and water. Was great to see a variety of animals although we missed the capybaras so will have to come back another time. The Christmas trees decorated along the pathway is a really nice touch too!

Visited High Park zoo today. Saw many animals and birds like Llama, Emu, Capybara, Bughorn sheep, Yak, Bison, Peacock, Cattle. 2-3 animals per cage. I don't know how secure are the barricades in here. Animals looked sad actually. Held captive for people's view. I personally was sad to see this sadness in some animals. They should be free in their homes.

This park was such an unexpected gem. So many trails, and e-bikes available for rent. There was a swimming pool, baseball fields, and we were pleasantly surprised with a free zoo inside the park. Overall this was a great park and definitely a fun place to spend some time outside enjoying nature right in the middle of the city.

This is a great little zoo to take your children to or to simply have a nice walk through. On the weekends it can get very busy, but we were there on a Thursday morning. It was great. Only a few families and a ton of parking available. The workers were kind and invited us to come and watch them feed the capybaras.

Fun, small Zoo entirely within the confines of High Park. The animals they've chosen to host are suitable for a small Zoo and small enclosures. Perhaps a dozen enclosures with a dozen different types of animals, with basic educational plaques at each enclosure. As long as you arrived with reasonable expectations of a small Zoo within a large Park, you will leave very happy with the time you spend.

  • Melissa Bolton

Love taking my son here on days off. You can make a donation, there is the animals in the zoo and a wooden playground within walking distance. Cars cannot enter the park on weekends so you will have to find surrounding street parking. During the week cars are able to enter the grounds and usually there is lots of parking from my experiences.

It’s nice for children to see the animals but as an animal lover I think the city needs to do more to support the zoo and well being of the animals, instead of asking visitors for donations. We didn’t ask for them to be in enclosures, so take responsibility and make sure they have the best facilities, we do pay taxes for a reason!!

This weekend we had the opportunity to feed the llamas and capybaras it was a delightful change from not being able to. The park is always a beautiful adventure, and you can park hop all in one location. However, there has been a reduction in parking space. It offers beautiful scenery and captivating activities for all ages.

I like the fact that it is free to enter. There are donation bins set up if you choose to donate. Not all animals are out during thr fall and winter but there is definitely enough to have a good time and see some cool creatures. I also really liked the info graphics about each animal. You can learn some interesting facts. And I appreciate that dogs are allowed to enter.

  • Frédéric Gauthier

There are a couple different animals to be seen, pretty great to see if you are already visiting High Park, especially considering access is free. Please note that you may not be able to see all animals at all times as the pens are pretty large and animals may be hidden.

I moved to the city about half a year ago and have come here a small handful of times. I'm a big fan of being outdoors on hikes, especially in the fall! I was recently told about there being a zoo here which blew my mind! Whether you're a fan of nature walks with friends and dogs or you like to see animals, High Park is the place to be!

  • Falik Mohammad Khwaja

High park Zoo has a good collection of animals. Since the weather was nice, a lot of the animals were outside their barns. If you are visiting on a weekend, the parking within High park is closed and you have to park on the street outside and walk all the way in.

August 2023 4* Visited the place with my kids on weekend. The place is well maintained and there is no entry fees. There are few animals currently as there is development work going on. However, it is still good learning opportunities for kids. Peacocks are big attractions as you don’t see them at many places in Canada.

  • Frank Nows

If you come to High Park, you have to stop by. Small but nice. Ideal for children. Many volunteers take care of the animals there. On some days you can support the zoo. I think that there is an honorary association active there. Through the purchase of food and small promotional items you can provide financial support.

  • Joseph Zamora

A nice quiet place you can enjoy nature, view some animals, bask in the sunlight and take in some fresh air with a a hint of fresh animal manure scent . Animals are well taken care of and seem healthy. We enjoyed our time there!

About what I'd expect for a free public zoo. Fairly common but interesting animals like peacocks, capybara, Highland cows, and goats. Don't expect to spend a whole day here it's maybe a 20 minute experience. It's free so you really can't complain and is definitely worth checking out if you're already in high park!

  • Phil Vania

Lots of trails to choose from. On occasion manage to catch hawks on camera. Different birds by thee water are always entertaining. Lots of parking but be aware of one way ring road in and around the park. Slow down as there are children and pedestrians on the roadway. The zoo is also an interesting place to visit

  • Jacquelyn (Quelyn)

Nice little place in High Park. Lovely spot to visit (for free) if you're already in the area, gives some variety after a walk through the park. Has larger animals like yaks and goats, with all the enclosures along one path.

This is such a cool place to be! City of Toronto really look after these animals and you can tell they are happy and healthy. It’s a great place to bring kids and friends over. Take the step to the west of it, and it’ll bring you closer to the lake. There are ducks and geese around. I had a wonderful time!

  • Ester Lundin Williams

One word: capybaras. They have a private barn to hide in, and a pool in their enclosure! There are no food stalls, water fountains ect at this zoo, it’s more of a walkthrough which is nice, but there is porta loos

As you can see in the photo, they are quite away from you, and with the fence, your photos won't be that good either. Also, the gate was closed to cars to park on the day that we went, and we had to find a parking space 20 minutes walk away. But hey, the zoo is free and inside the park.

I was here in the Spring and saw some nice animals. I was just passing through the zoo in hopes of see the Cherry Blossoms. This zoo is great for kids to see many different animals. This isn't like any regular zoo this is a small zoo with maybe only 10 animals.

Perfect for my impatient (under 2 and a 4 year old) kids who got bored after 6 exhibits. It's March, so the Capybara weren't out, but the llamas, cattle, peacocks, yaks, etc were still there. We had a lovely day with the zoo, the café and the castle playground.
