Cool little bar for the rock crowd! Friendly staff, and good beer. Not expensive either. First bar I've been in where the toilets have a larger area than the bar itself. Accessible and gender inclusive on bar level, full range underneath. Smoking area out the back and tables and chairs in front of the bar on the pavement, perfect if you enjoy day drinking and watching people walk past. Inside it's decorated as a dive bar with Leeds related posters and suchlike. Handily, has a huge cross hanging over the bar area for vampirophobes. They can sit safely and worry not Clearly however, vampires aren't welcome... Goths seem welcome enough though. In summary, great little bar. Call in, have a few and see what you think. What's the worst that could happen... Unless you're a vampire

I visited during a very specific and rare event - Wrestling "Bar Fight" which was executed brilliantly. The staff were great, enthusiastic about the event and friendly. After the show the bar quieted down and I was able to make some song requests which were granted and also sparked some great conversations about music with the bar staff. I left with loads of music recommendations to listen to and would definitely head back. I've been to Howl many times, usually very late on a night but this mid afternoon to late Sunday show was a totally different experience and very memorable.

Cramped, mega loud bar, the outside area round the back is reminiscent of bunking off in a car park with a 2L - definitely needs some work to feel a bit more welcoming. Caters to the alternative music scene which is great to see. But it's a very specific niche within this scene and that made it inaccessible for me personally. The staff seemed completely disinterested in serving me and we're just chatting on the customer side of the bar, but they were friendly enough. I love bars like this but I just wanted a bit more.

There is a new rock bar in town (not so new any more) and (thankfully) it is 99% less pretentious than the others. Dress code is whatever you want and yoi won't feel out of place. Staff here are friendly, chatty, good for drinks suggestions and far more approachable than other alternative venues. It's a little rough around the edges, but a genuine place - give it a go!

It's an okay experience, I've been here quite often as it's open when other bars shut. The drinks are relatively cheap but there is a minimum card spend so one drink is out of the question. The cleanliness of the place is somewhat to be desired as it feels a bit grubby. There is a big smoking area out the back with plenty of seating with the same during the day.

Howl is just a cool bar I’d been been before but this time took the biscuit!!! Staff & music were I was worried about me going in with my turban and how people would react to me cos I just love metal, instead ……,….I met a few old friends and made so many new friends people buying me drinks too…..unbelievable!!!!! Thanks 4 HOWL!!!!!!!!!!

Great bar. Would recommend. My only issue was a couple of Fridays ago when a group of people (looked like hillbillies) were using the toilet next to the DJ set for drugs. In and out, in and out, all night they were. Don't know if the bar staff or security were oblivious, or if this is common here? Seemed to be ok on other nights.

I got banned from here by the owner for minesweeping. Although ironically the final straw the drinks he thought I'd stolen were given to me by some lads who I was chatting to who had to leave. Pretty understandable though... Really friendly and welcoming place - good music, great staff, and plenty of diverse characters.

Decent dive bar with friendly staff and a metal/horror theme. Can hear each other talk which is a massive plus. Toilets in the basement. Smoking area out back. Down one star cause the beer here is definitely not stored right, you can taste it. Spirits are fine. Prices reasonable. Watch out for the £5 minimum card spend.

The bouncer was a lovely guy. When there was trouble he was quick to act but welcoming. Well done to the bouncer on the door on 19/3/22. Big thank you to the bar staff well, service was fast and reliable. Again very welcoming, especially when we weren’t your usual type of customers.

It's a decent metal bar, there isn't many in leeds so you don't really have many choices bur if you like alternative music and just want a place to have some cheap drinks with friends id recommend

Great little bar for the Key Club crowd! Staff were friendly and music was loud enough to hear but not loud enough to drown out your conversation. Smoking area out back has lots of picnic benches to sit at too.

Good if you get the right staff. Tonight’s were angry people. I think they needed a hug. Probably didn’t like my adidas coat so assumed I don’t like rock music and showed me some of that angst they like to throw at mommy and daddy cause they are so misunderstood.

  • Victoria Hoyle

Searched leeds for a good metal bar, but dissapointed with our first time here. not a lot of metal played and also rude bar man who was yelling abuse at customers like he was having a bad trip. would go again with diffrent staff on.

  • Andy Stacey

Small, friendly staff, good music. Welcoming place to chill out relax with friends. Also open to daft o'clock. Has some interesting decoration that is rather unusual, will post photos next time I'm there.

  • M P

I knew it's not my kind of place, went there anyway, it's such a tight place, the menu is rather uninviting... It feels like the place gets filled with old customers who are used to everything there.

  • Mikey Mangan

Great little bar for rock, metal & alternative music fans. Friendly atmosphere and staff, with a vast drink selection. Awesome decor and playlist too!

Genuinely good people. Strangers make friends, great music and you feel listened to. I went in one quiet night and asked for Slayer. I got Slayer. The best rock/metal bar in Leeds. By far.

  • Laurikun

I came to leeds from Spain speaking poor english and this place welcomed me with great kindness and i made many friends, i am very happy and it is a gesture that i will never forget. :)

  • Matt Newton

One of the few remaining alternative bars left in Leeds, friendly staff, good atmosphere. Good selection of popular beers and spirits, plus music requests are taken at the bar.

  • jordan

Honestly one of the best bars in Leeds. Fair prices, fantastic atmosphere and really friendly staff. A must stop if you like rock and metal (etc) and want to enjoy themselves.

  • Stu Phillips

I relocated to Leeds just 3 weeks ago and Howl is 5mins from my new place! Already met some fantastic people here... very friendly, great atmosphere and killer music!

  • matty kerrigan

Floor's a bit sticky, sounds like it's still 2001 and Nu Metal is king. They did play Holy Diver tho and they have Dead Man's Fingers. More than likely I'll be back

  • NeRowleyEDP- The Northern Fragrance Guy

One of a kind! My regular pitstop with cold wet drinks, cracking staff and fab music.

Nice friendly staff. Some good "old e.g 20 year old" rock music playing and reasonable priced drinks. £5 min spend on card. Small bar but seating outside.

  • Michael C

Cozy escape from the high-end "wannabe" bars infesting the city. Decent drinks options and great music. Surprisingly clean toilets are worth the walk.

  • Bob

It was a quiet and wet night, so we probably missed the best time to be there and soak up the atmosphere

Probably the least presumptuous toilet in Leeds, there was literally a broom across the toilet seat and an industrial hoover - love this place

  • Sian Allen

Great place to go for a night out. Joe always puts on my music requests. Drinks expensive, but worth it for the hospitality and atmosphere.

  • Tarry Kay

Great vibes, friendly staff, good music. Wouldn't kill 'em to put a cloth and some disinfectant round the place though!!! Toilets are grim.
