This is Sydney’s premier public park. Located alongside the central business district. There are dozens of large trees that provide excellent shade inside the park. There are several public toilets dotted around the park. You’ll find a cafe at the northern end, and the Anzac war memorial at the southern end of the park. Norman Weekes’ winning design for the remodelling of Hyde Park was submitted in 1926. His design reflected European traditions and the ‘city beautiful’ ideal. It emphasised grand plazas and avenues, with vistas framed by impressive monuments. His design philosophy echoed Governor Macquarie’s original version of the park as an expression of civic benevolence. Weekes also wanted the park’s open spaces bs plantings to be Australian in character. He gave areas Aboriginal names that reflected the qualities of each space - such as Boongala, which meant place of green shade. Gwandalan, place of quiet. At the northern end of the park, where the Archibald Fountain is now, Weekes planned an octagonal-shaped formal ornamental garden and fountain. He called this area Birubi Circle. Weekes envisaged a library or grand memorial structure at the other end of the park, where the Anzac Memorial now stands. Council modified the plans extensively for economy and practicality. Just one year after Weekes’ winning design was accepted, many of his ideas, including Aboriginal place names, were discarded. A bridge that joined the southern and northern ends of the park, over Park Street, was approved by the city council in 1927, but has never been built. #HydePark #Sydney

Walking my not so little puppy Mutu usually to get to the domain & botanical Gardens/harbour walk. Always love the number of animals that we come across, though Mutu's 1st Possum experience was more "what the hell are you "than run & chase. Especially when this gorgeous little Possum kept walking closer towards us, but standing up on its hind legs did make Mutu a bit scared hahaha
Restrooms
None really, Museum station is on the cnr if required.
Dog-friendliness
On lead, it's fine to walk around & as my pup discovered, there is a range of furry creatures roaming around. It has a tendency to be underlit at times, so some not familiar may find it a little dark to walk at night but never had an issue there & always clean & beautifully maintained.
A large park in the heart of Sydney that is worth a wander through. It contains grass areas, flower beds, sculptures, a fountain, a pool, tree lined avenues, etc. It is Sydneys oldest park. There were lots of places to sit and wile away the hours. The park is split into north and south sections by a road that runs through the middle. The park is wheelchair accessible with good paths running throughout. The grass areas are stepped, so it is not possible to get onto those. There were portaloos in the park, but I am not sure whether these were for public use or for the construction workers. There is a public toilet at Museum Station, which is to the south-west corner of the park. This toilet is disability accessible.
Spectacular park, established from 1810- 1927. I have been a wanderer of this park for over 35 years and still find it to be very interesting and exciting. With so much to enjoy, you'll want to spend the day here visiting many water fountains, the views of Sydney are awesome, many iconic landmarks can be spotted from here. Go for a picnic or just relax and enjoy. Don't forget to feed the posums with your kids at dusk, they love bread, pls don't get too close, they are people friendly but we must respect their wild animals. This beautifully maintained park has so much colour. The war museum at the West end is a must.
Hyde Park is a green oasis in the Sydney CBD, offers fresh air, sunshine big leafy trees birdS chirping, possum squeaking even bats at night, squealing, it’s a nature lovers retreat from the offices and hotels. Lush green grass, great for picnics or lunchtime breaks from work. Statues, fountains — early colonial history. Train bus access, surrounded with cafes, restaurants, museums and Cathedrals and the ANZAC WAR Memorial and reflection pond. Indigenous War Memorial Flower gardens and walking and biking pathways. Great atmosphere worth a visit!
Hyde Park is a lovely park in close proximity to the city centre. Throughout the park, there are lovely, well-maintained garden beds, as well as hygienic paths. The park design is well-planned an effective, an ideal city park suitable for relaxing, picnics and gatherings. The towering trees provide a calming shade over the wide, spacious path running through the park. Hyde Park is the perfect place to enjoy the calm of nature in the middle of the bustling city. Highly recommend a visit!!!
Dog-friendliness
Dogs can walk through the palk.
Hyde Park is truly the heart of the city of Sydney with extremely easy access via public transport. It is Australia’s oldest park and also one of its most well-known. Hyde Park offers 16 hectares of wide open space in the heart of central Sydney. Full of beautiful spots to spend time and relax with family or friends. A large number of amazing monuments are offered. In particular, the ANZAC memorial is something out of words beautifully designed and built to remind the braveness and scarification of ANZ soldiers during WW 1. Highly recommended.
Sydney's Hyde Park is a jewel in an already beautiful city. Clearly a lot of careful planning went into this delightful place, and you really must walk around in it as much as you can. Be sure to see the magnificent Archibald fountain with St Mary's Cathedral as the backdrop, the wide avenues of shady trees, the extensive lawns and plantations, the Captain Cook statue, and the Anzac Memorial. If you end your walk near Museum station and feel like a rest, jump on the 333 Bus and let it take you for a city tour to the famous Bondi Beach.
This is the first public park in Sydney. It has a cool and relaxing and peaceful ambiance. There were a couple of guys singing.I think u can rent the place for several events. The most important thing is the park is divided in two places by Peter Street.U must get across the other side to enjoy the whole area. The stunning old trees and the beautiful grass made me feel so earthly.U can lie down on the grass and take a nap.Its so calm and soothing.I wish I could live nearby.
I was impressed with the park. The park is kept landscaped and clean. The day I went, the weather was nice and people were enjoying picnics or laying down. Hyde Park is a good central landmark for using public transportation. The Anzac Memorial is located in Hyde Park. I did not see the unhoused or people asking for money in the park. Not saying they aren't there, just the different routes I took I did not see them.
Picnic area
Open grass areas.
A must stop for anyone who loves trees, big trees, visiting Sydney. The figs at elegant and stunning. Fountains, broad walks, clean & tidy, with plenty of benches to sit and people watch. St Mary’s Cathedral on one side good restaurants of various kinds and prices on the other, close to the Opera House, and plenty of public transportation. Only downside were the public restrooms - portable toilets. Sydney, you can do better on that score.
Hyde Park Sydney. 08/07/23 NAIDOC IN THE CITY, had a top day got to speak with many indigenous artists and musicians ❤️ their was no heavy police presence! Great place to visit whilst in Sydney. A must walk item it has a variety of statues, memorials and other things to see. I think the city of Sydney was going for a central park vibe and they have definitely hit it. There are some public toilets about but if you really need to go there are a bunch of cafes and shops around. Would not recommend passing out on the grass after a night out as police get called out pretty quickly.
Top marks for its simplicity and location. Simplicity in that although it’s not a better walk or scenery than the Royal Botanical Gardens, it provides a great spot for people to relax for office workers to enjoy their lunch or shoppers to take a breather. The Archibald Fountain is an iconic landmark worth checking out. The location is perfect, so close to Pitt St mall and Museum station, and other landmarks nearby.
Hyde Park after sunset was one of my best choices I feel. Park was perfectly safe. No homeless population during my visit. Sidewalks well lit. Captain Cook statue and other exhibits were illuminated which enhanced the images. City lights shining through the trees provided a back setting that could not have been experienced during the day. Mid August het temps were perfect for walking. Park was spotlessly clean.
Love nature, but Hyde Park has lots of my favourite Trees - The multi-root Fig trees making a most remarkable "rooftop" which protects you from a large amount of Sunlight and also a lot of light rain. Also has a War Memorial, and the first Historic Underground railway ( part of city circle) Explore with time and a quiet mind :AlanBOND-Colton
Beautiful little Park with fountains. There is a large, circular fountain with Greek statues opposite St Mary's Cathedral. It has been renovated recently, and families have picnics on the lawn. If you live in the city, it's so nice to walk through the Magnolia trees and take in the sun. Unfortunately, the bathrooms are located in St James Train Station.
This. Place. Is. Beautiful. I love it, awesome for taking pictures, exploring different types of plants, or just walking around in general. There are no fees needed to go in, but if you want, there's boxes for donation to the garden. The plants and flowers are beautiful. But if you don't want to walk too much, then don't come here. Totally recommend.
An awesome place. Very calm, right in the fast moving city centre. Has church in front and War Memorial on the other side.
Playground
Not big playground but small sections are available for children to play
Restrooms
Restrooms are available in war memorial.
Picnic area
Yes, picnic area is there. People are allowed to sit and eat.
Very beautiful park to walk. Full of beautiful trees and flower. The park has a very nice War memorial. A great place to take pictures. Hyde Park, Sydney, is an urban park, located in the central business district of Sydney, in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It is the oldest public parkland in Australia.
This is very nice place where you can walk around and see very beautiful trees and feel the beauty of nature in Sydney. I recommend you to visit this place and walk around and specially it will be so nice in the nice weather. You can approach this place from different area in Sydney by using the bus or walking through the street road.
A wonderful place to take some time off to relax and learn about the sacrifices made by Australians during the wars around the world. The staff were also very friendly and approachable, ready to teach and educate those willing to know more. The facilities are well made too. There's also toilets and lockers available on site
A giant park that is near Town Center. It is a lovely place to take a break from the surrounding concrete jungle. The park is relatively big, and it is great to jog around dinner areas. The change in scenery can help maintain the interest while jogging. The fountain is located at the walking path and it is a lovely spot.
Hyde Park is so beautiful. It is perfect for a stroll in the park. It also has a memorial building and some statues. The water fountain in the park is quite large and magnificent! We loved it. It is all free. Gets a 10 in my books.
Restrooms
There are several restrooms in Hyde Park that are clean and maintained.
An iconic park in the heart of Sydney and the oldest park in Australia, the Hyde Park is one of the destinations that you should stroll through as part of your visit. You can include it as part of your walking tour of the iconic buildings around this area, where there are lawns for you to relax and people watch.
Very nice park near darling harbour , great place for walk or just a run , the two sides are separated by a road in the middle Decent size park with some memorials to see On a day with nice weather it is very fantastic , the southern side seems to have some construction going on at the moment though
A nice green oasis a short walk from the bustle of the Pitt St mall. Connects you through to the Domain and St Mary's Cathedral. Sit back and watch the people, the ibises (and other birds), and soak in the greenery. Bonus points if you get some classics Aussie takeaway to enjoy on one of the benches
Scenery for this place is awesome specially at night. Relaxing view and just wanted to stop the clock just to appreciate the city lights and all the things here around me at this moment I experience this. I just love and how amazing the view here. Highly recommended you'll love this place too!
huuuge park, lots of birds. if u walk across from david jones to this park you’ll find these comically large chess pieces n there will always be a bunch of old men playing chess here. there’s some normal sized chess boards on the tables but i’m not sure if u have to bring ur own set or not
Very beautiful park to walk and sit in. Fully of beautiful trees and flowers. The park was quite busy at 4 pm. War memorial. Anzac It was a good place to take pictures. It's between St games station and town hall station. At the beginnings of the park you will find a cafe and it was nice.
Mum 97 and I spent a lovely morning walking around Hyde Park, so beautiful, well worth the visit. Had lunch at kiosk, very friendly, great service and food. Only issue was the local scavenger see pics who pinch 1/2 my yummy carrot cake. But other birds better behaved.
Hyde Park in Sydney was a hit with my 4-year-old! With ample space to run around and explore, it was the perfect spot for a family outing. My child loved it so much that they're already eager to return on our next Sydney visit. A lovely, well-maintained public space
From a train station, to beautiful fountains to canopy laid passage, to a world war memorial, hyde park was something special, a peaceful place in the middle of the city. Worth going for a picnic or an everyday jog or even a cross through to reach the other side.
Lovely grounds to walk around looking at all the famous statues, fountains, and the war memorial. Plenty of seating and grass under shaded trees to sit and relax or have a picnic lunch. The grounds light up at night so you can even stroll through here at night.
A lovely park to walk, jog, sit in and draw. Lots of beautiful old trees, flowers and the War Museum with some water features. A nice place to take your mind off current times and it is one place that will never change though, the trees will be taller!
Huge park in the center of sydney cbd. Light up at night giving a super cool vibe. The Museum station is located within the park. Many bus stops around. Very easy to access. Great place to walk around or gather with family or friends for a picnic.
Sydney’s take on Central Park but without the food trucks or duck lake. A great vantage point to view St Mary’s Cathedral but primarily serves as a quiet alternative reading spot. The shaded alleys are a welcome respite any time of the year.
Unearthed over a hundred years ago, when a 10 story building was considered a sky scraper - Now heritage listed - 24/7 remote CCTV monitoring & time pieces of curated fauna. Multiple access staircases & distinctly retained above roads below
This green park stands out as the finest I've visited thus far. The towering trees that populate the area create a profound sense of tranquility. Their expansive canopies not only enhance the park's aesthetic appeal but also contribute to a
Nice grassy areas with plenty of trees for shade. Interesting monuments to give you a sense of history. Nice to see some greenery in the city centre. Lost a star because protestors took over the area and invaded my peace and quiet
Hyde Park is an absolute gem in the heart of bustling Sydney. As the oldest park in Australia, it is a true testament to the city's history and has been a beloved gathering place for locals and tourists alike for generations.
A huge city park. Divided by Park Street. Lots of spot of memorial statue, building, fountain, small garden, even 2 train station underground, etc. Clean and tidy. Just relax, sit on many benches and enjoy the views.
Always a very pleasant, cool change from the city. Lovely shade from the trees and some flower beds around. Great spot to have a break, coffee shops at each end.

One of Sydney's quintessential parks in the city of Sydney to visit with trees a fountain and water feature and pretty Gardens too, towards the Oxford Street end it also has a Anzac War Memorial.
A beautiful BIG park that leads you to many great places. Relaxing when sitting on the grass and benches and looking at fountains. Though, there are many homeless people that sleep in the bushes.

Great Park. Well maintained . Near the central business district, beside St Marys Cathedral and Australia Museum. With 2 train stations and it is where Anzac Memorial is located
Nice family- and pet-friendly park. There are several nice eateries - think small, cozy, open-air type of places. Certainly a nice place to visit the family on a lazy Sunday.
Cool park for a picnic :) A real historic deal to the whole area with the old church and then walking to the underground train station was like walking into another era.

Nice green space in central Sydney. Some refurbishment of fountain 2022.. and St Mary s cathedral nearby is a must. Anzac memorial at one end well worth a visit....
Even in the rain this park is beautiful, a stone's throw away from the city but it transports you so much further than that! I'm lucky to have this on my commute
Beautiful, large park in the heart of the CBD. Fountains, statues, large trees, views of the city, paved pathways. I wish Seattle had this kind of park.
A lovely and historical hang out in the heart of Sydney, well worth grabbing coffee and breakfast items from surrounding shops and chilling for an hour.
Very nice and relaxing spot to unwind, plenty of room for kids to run around and pet friendly. The Anzac memorial was especially peaceful and serene
It is one of the top must visit places in Sydney. To all those who are visiting Sydney, you must definitely put this place on your visiting list.
Great park, super spacious and love that we're able to host our rallies for peace and to end the occupation of Palestine there. ✌️ ☮️ …
A slice of green scenery in the middle of the city with historical monuments on site. Easy to get to via train, close to the Australia museum.
We enjoyed walking through the park and going round the Anzac memorial. The guide there was very informative and it was a moving experience.

You can, and should, spend the entire day exploring the park. Carry your food, drink and a blanket.
This park is one of my favourite places Even on rainy days , its scenery was very nice …
