Oh, breakfast tacos, I have seen your light and it shines on me forever. I was in Austin for a few days for a poetry festival and discovered Kick Butt Coffee as they were nice enough to host several of the events. I understand you can’t walk 10 feet in Austin without tripping over a place that serves breakfast tacos, and I’m okay with that reality. Besides at the airport on the way home, Kick Butt Coffee were the only ones I had in the city so I don’t really have anything to compare them to, but these were delicious. They offered 3 vegetarian options, A black bean and potato, an egg cheddar, and potato, and a yummy special which added avocado and spinach to the previous. According to their website, they make only so many and may run out depending how busy they are. I got lucky when I showed up…it wasn’t very busy and there were vegetarian tacos a-plenty available for me. I had the “yummy” special, and the egg, cheddar and potato. These are soft tacos which weren’t so much in terms of presentation, but which were absolutely delicious, especially with a little bit of the spicy salsa. I want more! Kick Butt is also a full fledged coffee house with a lunch menu with lots of choices for vegetarians. (Order at the counter.) And perhaps most importantly, the coffee was excellent. All good things to a coffee-house that serves good coffee. If I lived in Austin I’d be a regular here at all times of the day.

Kick Butt Coffee is a unique and vibrant coffee shop located in Austin, Texas. This coffee shop stands out not only for its delicious coffee but also for its live punk music performances. The coffee shop has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, with plenty of seating for customers to relax and enjoy their drinks. The walls are adorned with punk-inspired art, adding to the coffee shop's unique aesthetic. Kick Butt Coffee has a diverse and extensive menu of coffee drinks, including classic favorites like cappuccinos and lattes, as well as unique specialty drinks like the Dirty Hippie and the Mosh Pit Mocha. The coffee is expertly brewed and sourced from high-quality beans, ensuring that every cup is flavorful and satisfying. But what really sets Kick Butt Coffee apart is its live punk music performances. The coffee shop frequently hosts local punk bands and musicians, creating an energetic and exciting atmosphere that is unlike any other coffee shop in Austin. Overall, Kick Butt Coffee is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for a unique coffee shop experience in Austin. With its delicious coffee drinks and live punk music performances, this coffee shop offers a fun and memorable experience that you won't find anywhere else. - Review written by Chat GBT AI

Barista was funny and knowledgeable about the entire menu. I had many questions and the owner and barista answered them with enthusiasm and kindness. The owner is very involved with the crowd and is visibly passionate about the service and experiences the guests have. I love the atmosphere and I can’t wait to go back to not only explore their menu, but attend their weekly events!

Stopped in to this local joint because I don’t support Starbucks or any chain coffee shops. Was intrigued with the theme. Was pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere when I walked in. Kenzie and Thomas greeted us and welcomed us into this unique coffee spot. Had the Space Force cold brew and a mix of cafe de olla and the dark roast. Absolutely loved the cold brew and hot drip was delicious and smooth. No sugar needed. This place has a stage and bar, with shows on various evenings (music/comedy). Bar is open all day, and serves breakfast and lunch as well. Awesome service and “Kick Butt” atmosphere and vibe. Come out and support your local businesses. I highly recommend this joint.

I'm not too familiar with anything in Austin, but for my first roadie to see live music, we hit a hell of a cool spot. This place has all the usual coffee and variants you'd expect but also has beer and I think a full bar! They stay open late, the parking is ample because the rest of the strip center is closed in the evening, and they're easy on and off to the freeway. Bonus for being easy to find for out of towners. The folks working here are friendly as hell, the place is clean, and they love their rock 'n roll music. The martial arts theme is pretty cool too, and I love not having a 50 dollar bar ran for 5 or 6 beers like some other spots I have been to. I'm sure this is a great place to grab a coffee and some breakfast for normal day people, but if you get a chance to catch some live music here, I definitely would not pass it up!

Complete hateful discrimination. I was kicked out of a show for eating a tortilla chip that someone left on the table. I thought I was going to an open mic jam session wewr I could share poetry and listen to music but instead it was a burlesque show where I spent $40 on entry and beers only to feel outcast and disrespected because I wasn't part of their group. Been to over 70 countries and never felt so discriminated against in the US... I should not have eaten the tortilla chip but I also should not have been escorted to the door agressively for doimg so... Anyways, doesn't really matter I guess it just feels horrible being singled out and hated in ... The worst part was after they kicked me out they laughed about it and dabbed each other in glee.. it was horribly disheartening to be honest... Oh well.

So, taken with a bell curve rating this is 4 stars for Texas, but since I’m used to the plethora of Really good coffee and food in California where I reside, its a 3 star in my mouth and belly. Average cappuccino, milk was steamed way too hot for proper. average food. Romaine and a oil and vinegar that was oil mostly. Not bad! Just basic is all. That being said, I’d do it again in a pinch. I respect what the owner has done with the multi-purpose venue. Feels like you walked in to a car crash of a bar, coffee shop and open mic and it somehow works for the locals. Busy place. If you’re ocd about clean, don’t look at the floors or the guys hat or hair making the coffee. Not a real fan of the music playing on my visit. But thats like wine or coffee. Everyone has a different taste.

I went to Kick Butt Coffee during the Altercation Comedy Fest. I had an absolute blast! The food, the staff, the owner, and the bar itself are all amazing! The comedy festival and the music were incredible! I will be returning.

This place is the essence of what Austin represents, chill, laid back, cozy, and quirky. They have a good selection of basic cafe food items as well as some awesome breakfast tacos including sausage from Meyers in Elgin. They have an amazing variety of different mocha drinks. They have live music and local artists that play here. they had a lovely couple playing Christmas tunes when I went. I love the atmosphere and the quirkiness of the decorations and the menu items. The only drawback I had was my breakfast taco wasn’t that fresh when I ate it. But other than that it was fine. Overall I love this place and will be back soon.

Spend some time in Austin, and you'll eventually want to grab a coffee, or a bite here. Loaded with personality and a certain flair for everything Chuck Norris, the Kick Butt Cafe has a lot going for it. Take, for example, the comedy open mic night, the music shows, and the selection of foods that cater to many food allergies and food preferences. We asked for a splash of coconut milk, and the barista had a pretty heavy pour, but other than that, the coffee seemed pretty good. Tip: They have gluten-free vegan chocolate donuts, but if you're not into soy, I'd avoid it..

This place has a super friendly staff and their food and drinks are delicious! I walked in for the first time and the gentleman at the register was willing to talk with me and give me recommendations on different coffee beverages they could make. Once I paid for my order, I found out from the barista making my drink, that the gentleman was in fact the owner of the establishment. Super chill spot to hang out, grab a bite and a drink, or come back for some evening entertainment.

It's a nice coffee place that would appeal to a lot of people with certain tastes. It is setup more like a bar with live music and the lighting and decor inside is quite special and hippy. I liked the taste of coffee there, it was amazing. The menu items and the timings were unclear though so we ended up getting coffee and cookies during lunch time on a Saturday. Nice location and the vice is cool, I'm not so sure I would go back but I'll suggest you visit once for sure. You would know if it suits your taste and if you want to come back to visit again.

This coffee shop has a bright, open, relaxing ambiance with friendly staff, comfortable booths, and fun events. The cheese pizza is top tier, as are the other food options I've tried. The comedy open mic held there every Wednesday at 8PM is not to be missed if you like local talent. Spoken and Heard is every Sunday at 7PM. Sometimes I've seen punk rock shows bringing down the house when I've dropped in on the weekend. Come for the entertainment, stay for the pastries.

Had the dankest everything breakfast bagel sandwich + cream cheese + avocado. Chef chatted with me to check if it was good and that he added some extra spice to it (can’t remember what tho) Absolutely perfect. Latte was pretty sweet but it’s bc they have the pour tops not the pump tops like other places (just fyi) This place is my go to comfort breakfast place. They’re consistent, absolutely sweeties, and I love the vibe. Check out their night events too!

Really excellent. Got a mocha frappy (with some toasted marshmallow thing) and a "breakfast club" sandwich for breakfast. It was made-to-order and tasted amazing. The vibe of the place and the friendliness of the staff is awesome. When I was eating, I noticed that many people came in and ordered "the usual", and the staff already knew the people and their usual order. I thought that was cool. Flawless.

Really great place to grab some coffee or a quick lunch. I'm new to the location but I'll definitely return, they do live rock shows, have a great naming sense for their menu and drinks, if you want something a bit stronger to end your night, they have a huge cocktail selection. Don't forget to grab a cookie on your way out too they're baked fresh every day and come in a variety of fun flavors.

There is a HUGE discrepancy between the cost of food printed on the in-house menus, and the actual cost at check-out. The in-house menus say 7.99 for an adult quesadilla, but I was charged 12.99 not including modifications or tip. This is deceptive. The owner/manager needs to update this ASAP.

I LOOOVE Kick Butt Coffee! The food & coffee drinks are fantastic, the owner & staff are happy & friendly (Thomas Gohring is a fellow cat person!) & the ambience is old, weird Austin, something I find comforting, since I pine for the way things were when I arrived here in the 70's. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.
