I've been going to Kitcheners for almost ten years now. It's a solid spot for a good party, even though it gets pretty cramped sometimes. Also the toilets are usually occupied with okes taking drugs. Drinks are well priced, and the food isn't too bad either. I love that the old charm of the place has been preserved. I think it's ironic that a lot of black kids love to party in a place called Kitcheners. As an Afrikaner I should technically be outraged as well. Guess were6not woke enough. I'd recommend going though.

One of the oldest bars in Johannesburg , great vibe unique characters interesting people. Try prawn and feta Samosas or the Jozi burger with banana and bacon. Saturdays there is pop up market in the bar. Stand up Comedy nights on Tuesday evenings. Open every day till late on weekends close 3:30am great place to end the night when all other clubs and bars have closed. Check out the interesting wall paper and old lighting. Drinks are relatively priced this is a popular spot for international travelers.

What a gem . Had an unexpectedly awesome time at this spot. The vibe is amazing, people and the place is too cool. They have a great selection of beers, they had 3 different cocktails (managed to get to them all ) and mouth-watering mini-meals, ribs wings, you name it . On my next visit, I'll definitely bring in a few friends for a chill. Thanks for an excellent service, and groovy music . See you soon.

Met with some friends for a few drinks on a Friday. Bar was busy. Service was speedy. Friendly bartender. Seating it neither here nor there...it could be better. Some of the chairs were dodgy. Music was ok, not roo loud. When i was there the place had a chilled atmosphere. Prices are on par with the neighbourhood. A lot of university students hang out here.

I love the way the walls are painted. It's an old bar in a very busy part of town. Here you will hear great music and leave smelling like a put out cigarette if you spent even 10 minutes in the outside smoking area. The crowd is young and fun mixed with old and groovy. All in all it's a great night out if you are looking to get drunk!

  • Sphiwe Walter Moloi

Oldest bar in Joburg, restaurant by day and night club in the night. The target market is everyone, since it's in the hub of Braamfontein which is the go to area for students and recent graduates, you can expect to come across few students. Variety in events, comedy night, karaoke night, poetry sessions and best music across town.

Located opposite the Neighbourgood's Market in Braamfontein, Kitchener's Carvery Bar is the 2nd oldest bar in Johannesburg and is a favourite among the young and trendy. Pull in for a drink and enjoy some indie bands or DJs on weekends, but be prepared to feel a little squashed as it can get quite full.

  • Eve Rantseli

Fantastic music and cozy ambiance, it's like that very successful house party. The best place to let loose , dance and great conversations. Great place for over 40s too !! It closes at 4am, so ends up being the after party for all outings... Everyone ends up at Kitchiner's from student to A-lister!

  • Gao Thipe

Kitcheners (as the locals call it) is the ideal bar for experiencing the inner Johannesburg city culture... the multi racial/cultural vibe will see you having your best time ever. The diverse music genre is amazing... oldest bar in the city; still most amazing …

  • Doudou Mthembu

Ordered the rib platter and it was the worst thing ever. I had to go fetch my own food from the kitchen. When I go to the kitchen, the food was sitting there getting cold. I hadn't received my utensils; had to ask for them at the bar. By far one of the worst dining experiences.

  • Thomas Meyer

Great little pub with a tangible feeling of “history”. Barman seemed a little surprised that we were there for lunch (just before 13:00), but the burgers were delicious. Word has it that the vibe picks up significantly later in the day. Menu is relatively limited but adequate.

  • Quinton Muchena

A great pub with its music being the hidden gem of Jozi- a great variety of dubstep, ho, Afropop and traditional hip-hop & house. The drinks are student prices which is always great but the food does lack in quality but then again what are you looking for in Braam.

  • Qiqa “Que” Mtshisa

My visit to JHB would have been a disaster if i didn't make it here. The music is always great, the people are always a nice vibe and it really is the best spot to chill after a long day at work. Nice sundowners and turn up nights. All in all a great place.

  • Gemma-Leigh Evans

Definitely not a location I would have found myself getting smashed in on my own accord, but I must say I had a solidly great experience overall! And might I add their cheese sauce is absolutely out of this world! I would definitely go there again!

  • Kgomotso Ledwaba

A cool relaxed space within the student city-suburb of Braamfontein. Kitchener's Bar offers guests a locally charged experience that leaves one feeling like they always have a bar in Johannesburg that they can always go back to and feel welcomed.

  • Kaybelou Dow

Such a cool place, with amazing music (regardless of the time of day). The staff is super friendly and you will always find interesting and welcoming people. Had their fries, tasty af. Wing portions are also lit. Would recommend.

  • Khaya Ngwenya (Mr. Do it all)

This is a great place to have fun with your friends. You mostly going to be surrounded by hipsters (which is cool). Wear your 90s clothing and go straight to Kitchener's and have fun. Entrance is free during the day until 8 p.m

  • L N

At least clean the place a little. Young destructive and violent student crowd. The crowd is just not for a person who simply wants to find a table and have a snack and a drink. These students are as noisy as the idea of hell.

  • Lufuno Ramadwa

It’s a chill club for you to enjoy with your friends but just watch out for the bouncers they are not fair to everyone your chance for getting into the club depends on if they know you. But if you are lucky you will have fun

  • Andrew

This place has historical value as one of the oldest bars in Johannesburg. It has an interesting rustic but colourful, Victorian style to it. The food is decent and decently priced. There is karaoke and a dance floor.

  • Tsepo P

I have been going to Kitcheners since 2009 and I have never been disappointed. A great hub for artists and all those who love the alternative scene. Prices are reasonable. Best days to go are Fridays and Saturdays.

  • Rutger Mol

One of those few places that embodies Jozi. A true home for Joburg and for that matter SA’s house music. An institution that blends all cultures. When I am in kitcheners I am hopeful of a greater SA. Big love.

  • Fifi Bendly

Your onion rings aren't nice and your chicken wings were burnt. Your ribs were good, they made me forget about other things on the platter for at least 5 minutes. You can do better mahn. R240 gone for nothing

  • Morena Chabalala

Lol one of the most unique bars I've ever been to. You don't feel like you're in South Africa when you're here. The music, the people, dress code and furniture/interior design, everything just feels retro.

  • Chris Battersby

Lived there in the 1980's, room on the right on the balcony. Used to be the Milner Park Hotel, known as Jimmy's Inn. Love to go back. Wonder what happened to the receptionist and waiters, a good crowd.

  • Stephan vd Walt

I'm always unsure if it's the neighborhood or the place but if there is one thing that I have not had here once it's a bad time. Perfectly clean, great service, awesome people. My favourite pub by far.

  • Gwendeline R.

Such a chilled and vibey place. Shout out to the man behind the bar, Mfundo, he took care of us. Super dope personality. Including Neo Sanchezz who DJ'd such a fire set of hip-hop to old skool house.

  • Gary Pitt

In the centre of one of the busiest and trendiest spots of Joburg on a weekend - Braamfontein. Decor average, clients - truly rainbow and wonderful atmosphere. Prices average. 'Slap chips' great!

  • connie maseko

Its like a tavern. The food is okay. It just feels unsafe. Its too weird. There were 3 sound systems on the day we went. Quiet chaotic. Weed smelled from the porch. Hayi ziyabuya lana shame...

  • Fred Dilapisho

The Thursday night vibe was great. Music ranged from old school hip hop to salsa music and a battery of of others. There's adequate space for one to dance plus there's an artsy open back area

  • Dona Oteko

Edit - been coming here since 2016 , had a few birthdays here , welcomed my 25th and today on 14/3/2022 I got my heart broken.all my memories are kept inside those walls , love it here!

  • Mama Dee Du Preez

This is the most Wonderful place for a really good jol! The people are respectful and kind, and the party's are fantastic. The staff as great, and the My kind of jol, my kinda people

  • theleastimportant

I mean they could fix up the area a bit. I get that it's a bar and they like the essence of being vintage.. They could make it vintage but aesthetically pleasing to the eye too

  • precious xaba

The music is bad unless you like elctro and deep house all week long. There is not enough space to sit around and the bar staff isn't friendly. Plus the wine there is horrid.

  • Cai Niddrie

Decent students bar with good entertainment. Good house and a young fun crowd. Popular ad packed, good comedy on Tuesdays. A little expensive but nothing crazy. Nice staff.

  • Masentle Ntholeng

I live for Comedy Tuesdays. It's a great midweek activity for people who are looking for something else to do besides taking advantage of the Ster Kinekor Tuesday Special

  • Debbie Canham

The creative cool kid hangout. Quiet cosy pub by day and club by night, definitely not the place for if your not into big crowds which majority include varsity students.

I was robbed there on Christmas Eve and caught the guy red handed, took him to the Security and they just let him go, but asked me to leave. Very upsetting.

  • Jasmin Baggenstos

Good club, nice music but the street is a bit dangerous. Just don't take your phone out before you enter the club and you'll be fine.

  • Tshepo Moose
