I came back yesterday for the first time since the beginning of the Covid pandemic at 4 pm. What a difference compared to what it was before I ordered one portion of almond cake and one portion of praliné cake. I asked if the portions were frozen before because they did not looked fresh and the top was not shiny as it should be but they told it was fresh and not frozen. I took also the last two croissants remaining in the rack. I noticed that cake portions were very tiny about 1/3 than before for the same price. When we tasted it at home what a disappointment … the bottom of the croissants was very burnt, if I had seen it, I would not have bought them and the interior was very dense, either it was not enough risen or the daw was formerly frozen before and put directly in the oven, it was also very tasteless, another sign of being frozen. The croissants used to be one of the best in town and I bought them regularly before. I understand why they were the last two remaining. The cakes were also obviously frozen because the interior was not completely defrosted. We had to wait 20 minutes before eating it. I would not have bought it if I have known they were frozen before. They were pretty tasteless and the bottom of the praliné cake so hard that it was almost uneatable. I understand they are short staffed because of Covid and also have maybe less quality ingredients like almond powder which has almost doubled in price. I buy frozen food if I have transportation imperative and I defrost it slowly. If you freeze correctly low quality food, you defrost low quality food. When I buy at a bakery, I expect buying fresh cakes and if not, be informed of the freezing. I understand it was the end of the day and the shelves were completely empty and times are hard these days but if I paid 20$, I have far better quality for the same price at the Metro or Loblaws bakeries and a complete cake. We were very disappointed, I will try to go in the morning, if the same happens, we will never come back, many bakeries are very good in Ottawa making fresh products without cutting corners. It is a pity because it was one of the best places in town.
Feb 2, 2023 Just got these mousse cakes today, outstanding! grande qualité et service génial! ————- La Provence Kanata has been our favourite bakery for many years. A 'La Provence cake' is now a tradition in our family gatherings. All cakes and pastries are decorated with such artistry that it feels a shame to eat it. You can taste the quality and freshness in every bite! The mousse cup cakes is our top pick, with many variety from Lemmon cheese, chocolate, tiramisu to my all time favourite, mango! There were many instances where we bought pastries to bring to parties but they never all made it as they were consumed by the kids in the car. They are that good! Friendly staff, great bakery, reasonable price. Best bakery in Ottawa!!!! —————- Dec 8, 2022 Incroyable ! La Provence a une fois de plus dépassé mes attentes. My birthday cake was absolutely perfect, fresh and was super moist. It was a hit at the party, not a crumb left! Merci La Provence! My family and I have been coming here for over a decade and have always, enjoyed their pastries, fresh bread and second to none cakes. La meilleure boulangerie de la région d'Ottawa/Gatineau ! Awesome staff as well!
I have been a customer of La Provence for over ten years, and I continue to be thrilled with each order. I have had multiple custom cakes made, and my expectations are always surpassed. A variety of croissants picked up first thing in the morning are perfect to share with friends over coffee on a Sunday morning. My partner and I enjoy a couple of slices of the lemon cranberry loaf with tea after dinner. Perfectly tangy with just the right amount of sweetness. Yum! And who doesn’t love butter, or fresh preserves, on a crusty loaf of Belgian bread? But the best of the best are the cakes. La Provence has something for everyone. Chocolate lovers have several choices, and if you prefer something on the lighter side, good luck choosing from the many varieties of mousse cakes. And there’s much more to tempt you, but don’t despair. The wonderful staff will gladly help you. Obviously, I’m an ardent supporter of this local business, and I highly recommend you to stop in and take home an order for yourself. Before you know it, a Christmas Log from La Provence will become a tradition for your family just as it is for mine. Enjoy!
Ok so the pastries are delicious I won't deny that. The mousse cakes are great as are the macaroons, etc... The problem I have is that it always seems like that's all that's available, mousse cakes...with occasional cheese cake. Maybe I'm wrong but my folks have been buying here for a while and anytime I've been there, whether it's with them or not, that's all I find. Now this second part is likely just standard practice in cake shops but nevertheless I was disappointed to find out the cakes are frozen when purchased and have to be thawed at home. Again makes complete sense when you have to make an undetermined amount presale but it still threw me off...not to mention I couldn't eat some on way home. I feel like I should mention again that the mousse cakes are delectable.
I’ve been coming here for about two years and have noticed over the last few months that they’ve been cutting their already small individual deserts even smaller. It’s not as though the price point for these items is minimal and the portions in comparison to other French patisseries is not on par. At this rate, they’ll soon be selling slivers or bites of desserts. This bakery is local and I will continue to patron here, but will be going out of my way more often to purchase desserts from locations that are further away. This is a recipe that always lead to downfall. Customers always notice. As said in French I don’t appreciate when stores/services are “radin”
Lack of pride in ownership ? After ordering and enjoying a cake for a birthday in December, we decided to order once more for a second occasion in January. We called and spoke in great detail to bakery staff who recommended a cake that would serve the five of us and that was similar to the one ( which was no longer available) that we had previously. In a matter of fifteen minutes - and no later, we arrived to pick up the cake only to be told that it was "on back order" !!! We wondered whether we'd spoken to a different location but this wasn't the case. There was no apology and no suggestion as to when it would be available. What a way to run a business.....
A boulangerie lifted straight from the streets of Paris! After being spoiled by the incredibly delicious baguettes, croissants, and other delectable breads available on every corner while visiting Paris, I never thought I'd be able to find it right back at home. If you want a special treat, get there early and pick up a parisienne baguette. Warning: if you can't resist breaking a piece off to try right away you might just find there's nothing left by the time you get back home! Pair that up with a nice brie or camembert and a bottle of your favourite red wine for the ultimate summer picnic treat.
Went there on a Thursday at 10:00 a.m. and the display cases were empty except for 4 millefeuills, 2 chocolate exclairs and 4 tarts. I asked the gentleman behind the counter if more pastries woul be coming out he stated that is all they have because of superbowl! Like I said this was Thursday the superbowl was 4 days ago! l was upset and told him that I drove an hour into town for nothing. my friend had brought some home and shared some with me so I decided to get some also. I told him that this is not acceptable this is a bakery with no baked goods to offer.I was very disappointed.
Avoid getting frozen cakes from this place. The first time we got a tiramisu cake (a couple years ago), they told us to wait 2 hours before eating. We waited more than that but some bites were still frozen. Also the texture of the cake (or Lady fingers) was dry and did not taste very good. Recently, I gave it another try. I got the Parisian chocolate cake. The cake portion again tasted dry and had a weird texture. It was not moist or fluffy. Overall, I'm quite disappointed after hearing positive reviews from friends. Will not be getting any frozen cakes from here again.
Disorganized to say the least. Called us 4 hours after we were in the store to place an order (for the following week) and asked why we hadn't picked up our cake. Once we explained that the cake was for 6 days from then they told us it was an error. Went to pick up the cake on the arranged day and they had no record of it. They handed me a frozen cake and said it would thaw in 2 hours. 3 1/2 hours later we cut and served a still frozen cake. It was horrible. I was so embarrassed. No one liked it. Waste of my money. I won't be returning to La Provence again.
Kanata has a Parisian boulangerie? This place seems to focus on cakes and pastries and they all look good. I wanted an authentic French bagguette and they do have a decent variety although it looks like they may run out near the end of the day, so get here early. It looks like the bread and pastries are made on site. The bread is way better than a super market bagguette and the one Baileys cupcake I tried was okay only. If you live in Kanata and need a French Bread fix or are in need of fancy desert to impress your friends check out La Provence.
We've tried desserts from this place before and they were of decent quality. However, this time we were highly disappointed by the croissant that was offered by them. Just because you made the dough into the shape of the croissant doesn't make it a croissant. It tasted like a regular white bread and completely lacked the flakiness/flavour you find even from the premade dough from Costco. There seems to be a complete lack of understanding in what a croissant is! The worst part was they were charging $4 for this supposed "croissant".
I just called the bakery asking for a " Gâteau des Rois" to place an order for January 6th. Every french bakery knows what am I talking about, also I explained how it looks this cake in case she can't picture it. The girl who took my call was clueless so I asked for the manager and she said that they don't make " custom cakes", her answer without even try asking someone else!!! A french bakery without " les Gâteau des Rois" for January 6th, are you kidding me? No more with this bakery.
Was one of my favorite places for baked goods. We ordered croissants & meat pie for the holidays, as we have done in the past. They were disgusting and tasteless. Croissants were too big with little to no filling. The meat pie was small with very little filling. The top and bottom crust was thicker than the filling. Obviously there are new owners and using the reputation of previous owners. Wanted to support local but it was a waste of money for our family. Will never visit again
Simple, no-nonsense pastry and bread. La Provence doesn't do a lot of fancy, flavoured breads, but they make excellent Belgian, baguette, and multi-grain loaves. If you're looking for a great daily/weekly bakery. This is it. Their almond croissants are also excellent - lots of flavour and generous with the almonds on top. During the pandemic shutdown, they adapted quickly to phone-in orders, but you have to catch them when they're on site - no web orders.
LOVE IT! It has become my only choice for cakes. Especially for special occasions. They have a wide veriety of cakes and selections of pastries and friendly and helpful staff. The cakes are frozen and they tell you to have it out to defrost for 2 hours, so make sure to get the cakes ahead of time. Price is the same for all cakes. It is 27 for the small ones, and 34 for the large one. Maybe a bit pricey but it is 100% worth it
Fantastic bakery, lots of varieties to choose from for birthday or afternoon tea. Our family have tried a few bakeries in Ottawa and cannot praise more this local gem. The Mille Feuille is one of our favorite casual selections. Overall, the style and quality is comparable to one of the bakeries across the river in Quebec. New policy allowing Maximum one family of customers inside during this time and of course with mask on.
Their mille feuilles are so good (my dad, my sister, and I enjoyed them and it's rare for all three of us to like something). I've also tried their blueberry scone before and some other pastries I don't remember the name of...but it was all delicious. I have yet to try something of theirs that I didn't absolutely love. I usually take 1 star off if the items are a bit expensive but heck, it's so worth it for this bakery. :P
The croissants are done perfectly. Flaky and buttery. It was the perfect butteryness where you don't need to add anything. The baguette was nice and crusty on the outside but was pillowy and had excellent chew. We also had the Parisian cake which was wonderfully chocolatey. The cake itself had excellent spring and texture, while the icing had just enough salt to bring out the chocolate taste.
This place has the most authentic French pastries that I've tried in the Ottawa area. Too bad it's way on the other side of town from me. I go here to pick up fresh pastries for my mother for special occasions. She's from France and appreciates good pastries. They are not too sweet, and I like that too. My favorite is the mille-feuille. Get there early or they'll be sold out.
Terrific bakery. Their croissants are great, and my father says that their baguettes are the best that he's had outside of France. Their cakes (which you can buy individual pieces of) are a bit expensive, but quality comes at a price, and they are quality. Their bread prices are excellent -- I believe their baguettes are around 3 dollars? -- which is more than reasonable.
Nice little bakery tucked away in a strip mall. They have a great selection of breads and desserts. It's a great place to grab a treat for others (e.g., get togethers, parties, etc.). Prices are in line with what you'd paid at other bakeries. Products may contain nuts - the cakes I got didn't have them, but I understood there could be traces from the baking area in them.
frozen cakes !!!! RE: the response below from the owner. Maybe frozen cakes because not enough customers. Maybe not enough customers bc ppl are eventually choosing Sobeys (just across), that has fresh cakes. Maybe unhappy customers are choosing not to post here as a constructive feedback, but prefer to tell everyone they know that your store has frozen cakes. Maybe....
If I could give no stars I would. Awful experience. I Ordered the Black Forest cake. Looked okay, was under cooked and tasted awful. I went back the next day for a refund, the staff was awful and rude when I asked for the manager. Definitely will not be back. I do not recommend. If you’re looking for a cake, Sobey’s across the street has better tasting cakes.
We love this bakery. They have a good and delicious choice of cakes and pastries. Although I would recommend visiting them in the first part of the day if you expect to have a better selection of pastries. They also do custom cakes on request, but I never ordered them yet. Overall, I don't know any other places in Kanata that would compete with these guys.
I bought a chocolate mousse cake from La Provence Bakery yesterday for my wedding anniversary. The staff were helpful and responsive to my questions and gave me personalized service with no fuss. The cake itself was wonderful: not too heavy, but sweet. The artistry and design was wonderful. I would definitely come back here and recommend others.
One of the best bakeries in the area. They usually have big variety and sorts of desserts to offer. The staff is always polite and helpful. Prices are fair when you consider the quality and expertise. Bought a cake for a b-day and everyone enjoyed it and commented on the rich moist and elegant texture of the cake.
I had an amazing experience at this establishment. The front ladies where so kind. My almond croissant? Crispy and fresh. It tasted like a little pocket of joy crusted kindly with perfectly sliced almonds. I would highly recommend coming to La provence bakery if you are craving a tasty treat or just need a smile.
Went here for a cake for my sister-in-law as we heard great things about the bakery. I’m not even very picky about cakes, but our entire family found the cake to be very dry. Seems like the bakery has a good selection of things, though, and can have orders ready pretty last minute. MIGHT try again in the future.
We used this bakery for our wedding and we were so pleased with the cake! We did make the request for our cake some what last minute but they were still able to deliver exactly what we wanted on time! The carrot cake is absolutely delicious and the cake was decorated as requested. I would recommend this bakery!
So happy to find this place out in Stittsville/Kanata area. The bakery features solid staples such as baguettes that they go out of my way to grab. They also have in house macarons which are quite nice. Parking is easy and the location makes it so you can swing by if you frequent the Sobey’s on Terry Fox Dr.
Great little bakery! Please be careful before you try the Almond croissants, they are ridiculously addictive and ever so delicious. Be sure to go early if you want some because they are so popular and often sell out! Had a cake from there too and it was so moist and delicious!!! Definitely recommend!
Love the Mocha cake here!! It's a tradition to have one on our b'days. They have a good collection of croissants, especially the almond one. I don't find it to be an issue but a heads up-their cakes are frozen. You will need to let them get to room temperature which normally takes 1-1.5 hours.
Almond croissant was burned. They have nothing available 15min after opening . Mille-feuilles is not a mille-feuilles its one layer of puff pastry with creme patissiere etc. Also cinnamon bun was just a raisin pastry with cinnamon. I do not recommend if you are looking for authentic pastry
I go to this place quite often. They have an excellent selection of cakes, breads, buns, croissants. Everything is good, which is kinda liberating as I never have to struggle to make decisions since I know there's no wrong decisions. It's a bit expensive though, so keep this in mind.
Great pastries, cakes and pies. Everything I've bought from this bakery was delicious and tasted homemade . Highly recommended for birthday cakes, croissants, with a great selection ofother pastries and sweets. Outstanding quality, great friendly service. My favorite bakery in town.
Been here twice. Almond croissants were a hit but every time I go back they are out so go early if you want them. Bought a birthday cake and it was extremely dry. it was on display so maybe if you special order it it is different. I'll try it again and order ahead!
They have a wide assortment of pastries and desserts!! All of them are delicious and are must try's especially their Opera Cake and Lady Fingers. Not to mention that they do awesome custom cakes! Definitely the bakery shop to go to in Kanata. Highly recommended!
Great croissants, quiche, and cakes. The biggest problem is that they run out of products by the end of the day. Go early so you won't be disappointed. Oh, and don't try the almond croissants. They're fantastic - but highly addictive. …
I hate to post such a bad review but after giving them the benefit of the doubt, I recently bought a cake there a second time for a very special milestone celebration. I bought a vanilla cake as was requested by the guest of honour.
They just making everything smaller and smaller and keeping the price the same or maybe higher. I think next time that I buy something like an almond croissant it’s not big enough to add almond on the top. I’d never go there again.
Wonderful local bakery. Beautiful and delicious cakes. Called an hour in advance and they were able to provide Tiramisu cake with 'Happy Birthday' message. Yes the cake was frozen, but made in-house and was excellent quality.
Got 2 cakes for my wife's birthday, Parisienne and Tiramisu, I asked for frozen if they had them since I was driving 2 hours away. Everything was excellent, very friendly helpful service, most importantly delicious cakes!
If you are in mood for pastries and cakes this is the place you want to be. Every single cake they have is mouth watering and stunningly beautiful I will highly recommend it you should try this if you are in the area
Was excited to find a bakery that makes a St Honoré. Difficult to find since Swiss bakery closed a few years back. Was extremely disappointed. Whatever that cake was, it should not be advertised as a St Honoré. 1/10
Canada Day cupcakes ordered with quite expensive price. Small size with only red white sprinkles to differentiate as Canada Day treat. Photo shows size comparison to Nespresso glass mug. What a disappointment!
Not what I was expecting. The croissant I got was stale and soggy at the same time. There chocolate has a bitter after taste. Plus very expensive. I hear the cakes are really good. Haven't had one yet though.
Not a good place for anyone with diabetes, but the sweet treats are delicious, from pastries and scones to mousse options. Yum! The croissants need work. Bread options are comparable to other local bakeries.
Are they still baking cakes fresh daily? I went today to buy a cake. and was told all cakes are frozen Bought one anyway and after thawing it, it tasted delicious. I would have given a 5 star if not frozen.
This is an awesome local french bakery. Highly recommended stopping in to pickup some pastries. Hardest part is deciding what to get. The selection is fantastic. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.

Bought their mango mousse cake yesterday and it was a hit with my family. Really nice presentation and tasted delicious. Their tiramisu looked really good too - I'll definitely be trying it out next time.
Get here early or it's all sold out. Some items are a little more expensive than others, but I was able to leave with an assortment of 6 items for about $30. Items are not small, so it was a good value.
We ordered a black forest cake for my father's birthday and we were all incredibly pleased! It tasted homemade and the price was spot on. The staff were also very friendly. Highly recommended!
My husband ordered my birthday cake here and it was one of the best black forest cake I've ever had. The cake was not too sweet and very soft. We really loved it and definitely revisit again!
Here is the most perfect gem in Kanata! A place that can compete with any top ranking bakery around the world!! The croissants are to die for and the cakes are just wow !! Totally first class
Excellent pastry. I was looking for a good pastry shop in Kanata south. And I visit 2 of them. This is the better one and taste excellent. Many choices of pastry. I will come back for sure:)
One of the top three bakeries in Ottawa. Their croissants, particularly almond croissants, are nothing short of awesome. They also have an amazing selection of breads, cakes, and pastries.
I'm always very happy with the service I get from La Provence, they always go out of their way to make sure I get a great special order cake. We love all the products from this bakery!
Non sense website. Don't even waste your time. No online prices, you will need to drive all the way. Store is losing money, because of that. Better shop at Fidelice and order online.
I wish I could give a 6th star because that's how much this bakery and the staff have made an impression on me. This has been my go to for cakes and pastries for the last 2.5 years!
This bakery is a hidden gem that I’m so happy I discovered! Beautiful atmosphere, friendly service and absolutely delicious baked goods and treats. Definitely my favourite bakery!
Great bakery with the Best Scones in Ottawa!!! If you call ahead they'll set what you order aside or you can pre-order for you and have it baked for the next day!!! Love it!!!
Good bread. Desserts a little bit too dry.

Although it is a little bit pricey, I have to say the desserts here are really awesome and make my day! I would like to visit again when I want to treat myself as rewards.
Ordered a chocolate birthday cake with buttercream icing and it was… meh. Tasted like a sponge cake with with whipped cream icing. Guests described it as flavourless.
Disappointed that the cake I ordered was a froken cake (plain vanilla cake). Ended up being dry. Was told only black forest cake and a few others are made fresh.
Very mediocre or even aged interior, but cakes are really decent quality compared to the other bakeries. Love Opera cake and so many others worth to try too.
Amazing cake! We grab all our cakes from this location. Sometime the more popular flavors get sold out so be sure to call in and place order ahead of time.
Great options for last minute cakes or for those who want to make a statement (call in advance)

I came in today and tried a selection of baked goods. The almond croissant was amazing! Everything I tried was well balanced and not too sweet! More
We ordered a cake & almond croissants for a birthday party. Staff was super nice and helpful. Everything we ever got from them was beyond delicious!
Delicious cute cake shop! Really worthwhile to enjoy treats here once in a while and really good for those extra especial birthday's! Can be pricey!
!!!Good news!!! To feel the taste of Cuban desserts you don't need to fly anywhere, just buy it there: the cake looked ok, but tasted like garbage.
A small but well-stocked bakery that sells a wide range of goods. I bought a lady bug shaped chocolate raspberry cake that I was very happy with.
Every item we purchased was very fresh veg quiche, chocolate croissants. Best mille feuilles!! Friendly service. We will be a repeat customer.
Excellent local bakery. The almond croissants are the best I've ever had. Get here early as they sometimes run out of options by afternoon.
Not sure why we took so long to try this place!! Best lemon blueberry scones I've ever had!!! The baguettes and bread are amazing too.
That's what I call a nice bakery. All cookies, cakes, breads and buns are very very delicious. Best Almond Croissants in Ottawa ever.
My go to bakery for sweets, they have little mousse, fair price great presentation, perfect little treat to surprise the wife with
Best black forest cakes, make sure to order ahead. They also have a great selection of pies, cookies and croissants freshly made.
Ordered a Mille Feuille cake for my Mother's birthday and it was out of this world! Will absolutely be ordering again:)
Your eggnog mousse is the stuff legends are made out of.. these legends mainly consisting of really good mousse
Their pear and caramel cake had no flavour of pear, and little flavour in general. Their canolis were better.
Great little bakery. Nice selection of pastries. Almond croissants and hazelnut pastry are super yummy.
Someone just brought me some treats to Kingston. Oh my word, I might have to drive up. So dang good.
Love this Bakery. Always delivers fresh and same quality cakes and pastries. Big fan of this place.
Reminds me of pastries from France. Mille-Feuille and Eclairs so good. DEFINITELY make the trip
Their mouse cakes are really light and flavourful. We also got a croissant that was delicious.
Bought a birthday cake from this bakery a couple weeks ago. It was delicious. I will go back.
Absolutely wonderful baked goods. Not inexpensive but then the best seldom is. Nice treat.
Bad croissants. Not even sure they could be called pastries. I tried plain and chocolate.
Every time I’ve gone recently they are sold out of bread, with hours left til they close
Been there twice recently to purchase birthday cakes. Good quality and friendly service.
Recently bought the tiramisu cake for a friend's birthday. It was absolutely delicious!
Poor quality cake, overpriced, my BF got me one of their cake, dry, no cream, aweful.
Great cakes and friendly, helpful service. The scones and quiche are great too!
