HORRENDOUS! I very much love French bakeries and French pastries, I had the pleasure to taste a variety of French pastries from different parts of the world, including France itself. Where do I even begin with Le fournil! A true disappointment and a rip off of a « French Bakery » - Soggy and WET pâte sablée! (Shortbread). Anyone who has ever tasted a real tarte aux fruits or lime pie, knows that the dough is supposed to be hard (croquante)on the outside and slight buttery and soft on the inside! This bakery’s tartes are all wet, soggy and clearly served OLD! You can’t even hold it in your hand without it falling apart! - Same thing with the Mille Feuilles, how is the pâte feuilletée soggy??? It’s technically impossible for that type of dough to be soggy and spongy like it is in this bakery, unless it’s served days old! It’s supposed to be flaky and crispy! Similar taste with the éclaires, sogginess and wetness all over their pastries! - Croissants are not made with real butter and aren’t flaky, they taste like croissants from a grocery store! Either get a pastry certification or stop serving old pastries. For people who aren’t familiar with the real taste of French pastries, please do your research, try different bakeries or try baking the basic doughs yourself from authentic French recipes and look at the difference! You’re being ripped off and charged outrageous prices for terrible, old quality pastries. I will never order from you again, I don’t know if the owner of this bakery is aware of what is going on and I truly hope you receive a visit from sanitation services for serving old items. Placed an online catering order for delivery for a birthday event. Come party day my order was delivered (on time) but was missing a few items. Additionally a few of the items (mini tarts) were smashed in transit. I called and attempted to rectify the situation maybe ten minutes after accepting the delivery and was told by the employee who answered the phone that they were a barista and could not help - after acknowledging they had too many tarts on hand (I took this to mean that my missing tarts were still sitting at the bakery) and that I would have to call back on Monday to speak to a manager/someone who handles catering. Since the weekend I have called twice and twice been told that the manager is not available. Today I was also told there catering does not have an email address to utilize in case there are issues with an order. BOTTOM LINE: The pastries are decent and great for a display spread. I would caution anyone who is thinking of using their catering services. The chances that I would patronize Le Fournil again for my event needs are dwindling with every phone call placed to rectify what should have been an easy fix.

What one learns in such a place has very real meaning and deep importance to the experiences of pastry lovers! Our whole family is hopeful the flavors & textures are soon rectified. We will certainly return. Seattle has too few options for decent (non-Starbucks) pastries.

Le Fournil is always the hit! They bake their breads for the sandwiches, the desserts are as delicious as they are pretty and even when they are slammed the customer service is still very good. AND for coffee lovers they have cold brew! I've tried the cheesecake, most of the tarts, the napoleons and the chocolate cup. And probably others but these stand out. Between all the desserts I've tried the chocolate cup was my least favorite. Kinda looks like a tulip filled with whipped chocolate cream. Really pretty presentation but for me it was so sweet I couldn't bring myself to even take a bite of the actual chocolate cup/tulip. I can't say much about the sandwich fillings because I don't eat meats. I do eat fish sometimes so when I go to LeFournil the tuna is my go to choice. It's not just tuna and mayo. They season it well but now the herb has escaped me. Anyway again I was too busy stuffing my face to remember to take a review photo. Next time.....

The only good thing I can say is they are open early I remember when this place first opened and was a cute neighborhood startup with friendly local service, coffee, and fairly decent pastries, which was pretty good by neighborhood standards. Then they began a slow but steady progression to the bottom in terms of ambience, staff, prices, to the nadir at which they now find themselves. The service seems like the business has transformed into primarily a delivery service for breakfast and lunch (pastries and sandwiches) and they are annoyed at in person customers who want a coffee and pastry, but not so annoyed as to want you to tip for bad counter self service, as has become too oft the norm in this age... A rude end to a lovely early morning by the service at the only local establishment which seems to open before 9am :Oo

Extremely disappointed with the Mille Feuille cake I ordered. The one on the website looks great, something you'd want to present at a birthday celebration. The one we got was messy. The icing did not cover the cake properly (plain, thin and patchy with extraneous crumbs on top), the piping was amateurish (I could have done better), and the sides of the cake was sloppy with icing dripping down the sides. I'm actually afraid to taste the cake. For a cake that's supposed to be professionally made, I would have thought the bakery might have taken pride in how their cakes looked. Their small mille feuille pieces at the bakery look neater and much more appetizing than the cake we ordered. I would never order a cake from this place again. And beware that the cake you order may not look at all professional.

Le Fournil is a quaint, unassuming French bakery where one can stop on the way to work or campus. I've been passing this place for about a year and finally managed to go. The first time I stopped was for a quiche; while good, I expected it to be less than $9. The second time I went in, I ordered a croissant and was pleasantly surprised by the flakiness and texture of the bread. I also noticed fresh baguettes! While I was impressed with the quality of the bread, customer service left a little to be desired. Unlike their coffee, I found the staff to be unwelcoming and, dare I say, pressed. Despite the minute shortcoming of price and "meh" customer service, I enjoyed the quality of the offerings and look forward to returning.

First impression: I opened their door on a brisk gray morning to the scent of warm butter and fresh bread. The mocha I had was fairly good, featuring bitter accentuations rather than being overly sweet. The plain and chocolate croissants (only two among many choices of croissants) were among the best I've tried since moving to Seattle--light and somewhat supple with a slightly crispy exterior. I came back a few weeks later when they were really busy and tried the lunch special--talk about a good deal: a mocha, egg sandwich, and strawberry tart for a little over $10. There's even a punch card to accompany it. The egg sandwich was plain, but the tart held its own. I'll definitely be back for lunch to try other combinations.

I discovered Le Fournil during the COVID-19 pandemic when I was in the area for an essential medical appointment. In normal times, the busy Seattle traffic would prevent me from exploring. My family loves their baguettes--so much like the ones we had in Paris. I came back for 2 baguettes after another blood draw. The mille-feuille cream filling is so rich, take one home to share with someone you love. The pistachio strawberry tart was outstanding because the pistachio cream was full of pistachio flavor (not sugary) and the strawberries were at the peak of sweetness. If you have essential business in the area, drop by Le Fournil. It is good medicine for stressful times. Best wishes to Le Fournil!

The large croissant platter, 9 inch quiche and coffee for 12 were tasty and delivered on time but I was disappointed that you thought I would order all of that and only need 10 cups, 6 plates, 5 forks and 7 napkins. I had to scramble to find these things in the office for an important meeting of 12 people, making for a stressful morning. If ordering "coffee includes cups for 12 people" isn't clue enough, may I suggest adding someplace on the catering order form that asks 'How many people are you serving?' Or, adding the plates, forks, napkins to your menu so that I can order 5 at a time or 10 at a time. These are just some suggestions I've seen on your competitors websites.

Terrible terrible terrible. The staff can't seem to handle picking up a phone and writing down a sandwich order. If they are having a good day and can be bothered to take your phone order, they think one slice of deli meat on a baguette so hard it will chip your tooth is a sandwich. I wouldn't eat here again if it was free and came with a gift certificate to one of the MANY better restaurants in the Eastlake neighborhood. Le Fournil - your staff is incompetent, your portion sizes are meant for rabbits and other small animals, and your food is bland, tasteless garbage. Is that clear enough for ya?

5 stars for a simple cafe. They are fast, friendly and the food tastes great. I came in expecting a cafe with sandwiches and thats exactly what I got. Never too crowded but full, weekends or weekdays. I love the lunch special, drink of your choice, pastry of your choice and sandwich of your choice to stay or go or mixed for only 11.39 after tax. It's cheap if you remember the food quality is pretty high. I'll walk here from the uw campus and get a little exercise on my way, but it's so worth it. Good place to chat with a friend for lunch. Music is low enough to talk.

While it does close at 3 pm, the staff's kindness shines through when they still serve us even if we arrive at 2:45 pm. While the prices may be slightly higher, the taste of everything they offer is simply exquisite.

Was excited to grab a quick coffee and pastry at what looked like a delicious french bakery. I was pretty disappointed when I ordered a Mille-feuille that had all the wrong textures and tasted old. The rest of the pastries tasted like I could have gotten them at any grocery store. We then waited 15 minutes for a cappuccino that was grainy. At the 30 minute mark I left the cafe without my Chai tea latte because it was taking so long and I got frustrated with the barista messing up all the drink orders. Pretty underwhelming experience.

I visit here for buying almond croissant, but I was failed because I was late. At 1:00pm there were no almond croissant. I will visit again in the morning soon. Taste is full of butter and sugar flavor, similar to the real french bakery in France. Chocolate chou has full of custard creme inside, and it tastes milky and soft. I love this flavor, and I guess they are using good dairy product for ingredient. I bought choco chou, apple and cheese bread. Every breads are having great quality compared to the what I expected.

I had the pate sandwich which I recommend if you want something very French and flavorful. I also had the raspberry mille feuille which is incredible and a must try. Second visit: salmon salad sandwich with Americano and strawberry pistachio tart lunch special. The salmon salad sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, and I've had many! 3rd visit: Turkey cranberry camembert with iced latte and rosemary pear tart. 6/24/23: Had the chicken salad sandwich and the mocha mille feuille, both excellent.

The food was good, even though they gave us too many of what we ordxered and not enough of some items, Ordered water, diet coke, coke, Sprite, Perrier and orange juice and we received 3 orange juices, 3/4 Diet Coke, no Sprite, several water, and San Pellegrino. I get it, they ran out, but where is the receipt to reflect the changes and deletions? The caterer was rude and impatient. Didnt return calls. I get it,they're busy no need to be messy. TBH, dont state hot quiche when they're not even warm.

This bakery was a real bummer, the goods are just average and do not align with their google rating. I LOVE baked goods and have visited French bakeries all over the world, I'm not an expert, but know a below average croissant when I taste one. The selection of pastries is very slim. The almond brioche was dry and lacked the flavor of almond and the chocolate croissant was very dry and tasted like flour. When I asked if they served kouign-amann, the reply I received was "What is that?"

Along with Le Panier and Nuflours Bakery, this is one of my three favorite bakeries in Seattle. I recommend getting their lunch deal, which gives you a sandwich, pastry and drink for an affordable price. You should try whatever appeals to you. Since everything we tried was amazing on both occasions we visited, I can’t recommend one thing over another. I will say though that the peach tea was unexpectedly wonderful, so if you’re in the mood to try something other than coffee, try that!

Very friendly staff, my husband and I tried their lunch special which includes an Entree, Dessert and Drink. The sandwich I had was tasty and the Blueberry Tart was Stunning 5 Stars by itself (I almost want to keep it a secret...I would hate for them to be out the next time I visit). I also had their Chai which was a little on the sweeter side and not as spicy as I prefer but still very good and warmed me up on a cold day. I will definitely go again.

We have been there this Saturday and we were expecting to find fresh pastries The latte was drip coffee+milk ( no espresso at all) Nothing was fresh No crispy croissants or a fresh mille-feuill. Everything was there for at least a day. The only tasty part was the mille-feuille cream. I don't recommend going here. We decided not to try from spinach and feta after a bite, as we assumed they kept it at room temperature for a day and it could be spoiled

The staff is welcoming, the service excellent, the hours are great. My favorite is the sliced egg sandwich, my husband enjoys the croque fournil breakfast special on a croissant. The bread loaves and baguettes are similar to what I've had in Paris. Most of all, using appropriate guidelines, this business remained open throughout the last two years. They were reliably there for us during that difficult time. Thank you! ❤

Nothing fancy here as far as interior design, but comfy. Pastry is very good in the French style, and lots of variety. Coffee is well made so it tastes right. I keep coming back to this place. Shortly before they close you can sometimes get 2 for the price of 1 if they have leftover pastry. Sunday late morning Portage Bay Cafe and Saint Bread both had 45 minute long lines. La Fournil had some empty tables and no line!

1) Mille Feuilles: I thought it is the signature dessert of the store so it would taste good but actually quite disappointing. Cream tasted weird, too sweet, not fresh. (2 stars) 2) Mango tart: alright, the whole tart is very soft. I expected the shell and filling would be harder & more content. (3 stars) 3) Ham & Swiss croissant: pretty good (4 stars) Overall 3 stars. The pastry is a bit overpriced for its taste.

Stale bread, thin meat and flies, lots of flies. I won't comment on the staff, she might have been having an off day but that should not affect the quality of their product. The bread was stale. Plain and simple. It fell apart when I bit into it and three thin slices of ham all for $8. I was going to eat there but the swarm of flies in the place almost made me leave. Not an experience I want to repeat.

The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is that I’m a late riser in the morning and miss out on the fresh bread in the morning. I have been obsessed with the sand which deal since I first visited and would encourage anyone and everyone to try the pâté forester. Delicious pastries and fire coffee, for maximum enjoyment arrive as early in the day as possible.

Through the counter window, I was already disappointed by the look of their pastries, especially the croissant, but I still got one hoping to prove myself wrong. I wasn't. The croissant is so bad (both the texture and flavor are wrong) that I'm pretty sure this can't a French bakery. Nice and hard working staff, I wish I can like this place a little more.

Everything I tried at Le Fournil over the course of several days was amazing: a variety of tarts (the passion fruit was especially great!), raspberry croissants, mille feuilles, and croque Fournil sandwiches. I'm drooling just thinking about it! I live in the Washington DC area, but I'll definitely be going back to Le Fournil every chance I get!

Terrible espresso drinks-- I try one every now and then in the hopes it'll be good so I can sit down and enjoy coffee and pastry... Nope: I'm disappointed every time. In fact, even for Seattle, they are pretty disorganized and dont seem to care about their customers. The fruit tarts and mille feuille are worth the trouble, though.

If you want to try this place I highly recommend to get the lunch or breakfast deals for 12$ and 8$ respectively. Lunch combo is a sandwich of your choice, pastry, and a nice coffee.

Always great sandwiches, very fresh. Everyone of them is very good. Special includes freshly made sandwich (baguette bread) coffee or juice and pastry. Incredible selection of real French pastries and cakes made of superb ingredients. Fresh baguettes are also sold on premise. Just overall cozy experience for a single person or group.

Last time I went they charged ten dollars for two 16oz drip coffees. Which is double what they cost in the menu, but I was in a rush and didn't check the price on the menus. That was until the next time I went and saw what the price really is. Apart from that the pastries are fine, but the sandwiches are a bit small for the price.

Best thing I have put in my mouth in I can't remember how long. Wandering goose is the only thing which comes close in terms of baked good perfection. Truly high quality, not over sugared. Texturally it's amazing. Light and flaky and creamy. The mouse cup was like eating chocolate air clouds. Needless to say, I was in heaven. :)

Update in 2023. The service is so sour it taints the food. Perhaps that is why it’s not so busy anymore. And what tastes and looks suspiciously like industrial custard in rather expensively priced pastry. Nicely done French-American style goods. The fruit pastries are nice. The chocolate ones a bit heavy handed and too sweet.

Get the breakfast special! What an amazing croissant sandwich. They also have amazing pastries. If you are looking for a quick breakfast spot, look no further! In and out in 10 min, with an amazing breakfast for cheap! Staff is always super nice! Pics included of street presence because it can be hard to spot from the street.

Delicious French bread, crunchy in the outside and soft on the inside. Don't forget to have it heated up if you want to eat it in the moment. I also bought the espresso chocolate cookie... Couldn't have been more satisfied. I highly recommend and will definitely go again in the future. The process are on point!!

Great coffee. Screwed up everybody's order for lunch. Asked for take out and recieved it on tray for in house. Two of us got the potatoe soup when ordered a chicken coconut curry. Sandwich ordered was totally different. Ran out of ingredients. Maybe new staff that day? Not a large menu. A little too pricey even for location.

Easily the best almond croissant and baguette sandwiches in town. The croissants are always perfectly flaky and buttery. Often simplicity is best if you have quality ingredients and I can say the same for their ham (cheese) & butter sandwich. Yum. I usually come quite early so everything is as fresh as it can be.

The breakfast croissant is really good if you are willing to throw your doet away for the day. And theor lattes are always top notch. This is a regular pre-work stop foe me.

this place is a nice little cafe with high quality food and friendly wait staff. the pastries are tasty and the drinks are grood. we showed up in the early afternoon when i expected them to be out of most of the pastries they had, but they still had some good ones. maybe that's because of the quarantine?

The pastries are a hit and miss. I really enjoyed the cookies, and the millefeuille was not revolutionary but nice. However, the macaron was pretty bad--completely soft, almost soggy--and the cheese tart was similarly very soft in the crust and the filling just tasted like gelatinous sugar.

I'm a big croissant person, and their croissants are the best I've had in the city. There are other bakeries that make good croissants, but Le Fournil has the best texture and flavor - it takes me back to the boulangeries in Paris. The service is great and the employees are very helpful.

This is by far the most amazing bakery that I've ever been to. I lived right above this place for 4 months and went almost daily, every pastry and every sandwich was perfect. They have handled pandemic requirements very well to keep everyone safe. I would eat here every day if I could.

Popular bakery for a reason. Pastries were great. My iced mocha was good. The ladies behind the counter were really friendly in spite of my lack of sleep and disoriented & disgruntled presentation. The pastry and coffee combo is a perfect morning snack. The universe smiles on y’all.

Customer service is so-so. I've been there twice and both times the girl seemed to have an attitude. The warm chicken sandwich is delicious, the turkey & swiss isn't anything special. The desserts are where it's at. The lemon tart is perfect. My husband loves their eclairs.

I work near this place and it is a lovely coffee shop and bakery. Hot tip: if you order a sandwich, it comes on a baguette. To avoid tearing up the roof of your mouth on crusty bread smash that sucker flat. Tastes delicious and the roof of your mouth remains intact. Enjoy!

Great selection of savory and sweet pastries, and friendly service. Convenient parking garage (1 hour) to the left of the building. They had several options for dairy free milk for lattes (almond, soy, and oat if you ask, even though their menu only states soy).

If I could give this place zero stars I would without a doubt. The lady that took my order was extremely rude and does not have good customer service. The coffee was bitter and lacked flavor. The veggie sandwich was not well made. Would not go back.

Grossed out by the fruit flies in the pastry display case but I ate the pastry anyway and it was divine. I had a Strawberry tart which was out of this world. I think it had pistachio cream as well. Super delish. Just not a fan of the fruit flies.

Delicious food(!), good coffee... However, I've had several experiences where the staff acted like I was an annoyance to them. It seems like a stressful place to work, the layout is a bit funky and it's always packed (because of the great food)

The in-house pastries and sandwiches are delicious. Try the chicken salad on a croissant! I'd rate their speed at making drinks and sandwiches at 4 stars...unless you prefer that authentic French laissez-faire vibe. In that case, 6 stars!

Pastries and coffee are fine. Service is a bit abrupt. Vehicle traffic on Eastlake Ave E can be heavy. On 7/31/2023 afternoon it was quite warm and the door to the street was propped open...I think their A/C was broken?

Wow, amazing food, and even better service. I have gone here several times for lunch, and it's consistently fantastic (a croissant sandwich and salad). This has turned into a definite regular stop for a special lunch!

Had a plain butter croissant & a chocolate croissant. The plain croissant was one of the worst I have ever tasted in the US; the taste was completely bland, no buttery taste at all. The chocolate croissant was ok.

My favorite bakery ever, it all tastes amazing. I had a pear tart and the topping was an afterthought compared to the densely layered glazed crust. Best macarons I ever had. My only regret was not buying more food

It's my go to place for an afternoon snack. But they are pretty much out of cinnamon rolls by 2pm. I wish they would make a few more each day, so Folks like me would be able to buy one at 2 or 3pm. (Hint hint!)

I ordered an almond croissant and an apple croissant, both tasted very stale and very soggy. Probably one of the worst croissant pastries I have ever had. There was zero crunch to either. Very disappointing.

The bread treats are good here,the only part is that they have doubled in price. I always buy a Hand Cheese croissant and three weeks ago I paid $4.00 for it. This week it cost $8.00. not worth it for me.
