I stopped by as this place was on my way home. I was there today (March 2/2019) at 4pm and picked up cheese desserts. These are called “ahlawat il jibun”, I came home and my son and husband and I found they had a funny taste and then I called the owner. I called at 7pm and was not going to go back tonight but more tomorrow am to get something fresher. I was very nice and did not ask for money just a fresh product. Let me first say, the girl who answered was nice and offered my money back, then I said I rather just a fresh order when I pass by tomorrow. Subsequently, the owner came on the line and began to shout like a crazy man that I was lying. Seriously, dude? You lose a customer and risk bad reviews for $24? Your sweets are rotten and old, and you are a disrespectful man with no customer service skills and are flat out lyer. Your sweets were rotten and you are making people sick so you make a profit and yell? Again for $24 you risk losing customers and shame - FYI...good food is word of mouth! You have just lost me and my families business and I’m from a very large Lebanese family. Too bad, you were too ignornarnt and did not correct your mistake or even attempt to discuss the issue. I don’t deserve to be yeld at because I expressed the truth. I will assume you believe you are the best baker and ant improve on you skill. Le Roi is just no good. Cakes and sweets are better else where as is customer service and they food is fresher and has a higher turn over. Folks, stick with La Brioche, there are two locations, one further down Bank street and another close to south keys. I regret feeling sorry Le Roi. They are rude, have no customer services and frankly rip offs. La Bricohe, I will definitely make the detour next time as it’s always a pleasant experience.

Appears to be a good place for mid-eastern desserts and sweets. Had them a couple of times and I was not disappointed. The products are of good quality, prices are not too high and there is a fair amount of choice. If you're there for a specific product or just for discovery, you'll probably come back again. Staff (1 young lady) seemed a bit overwhelmed and exhausted by the non-stopping flow of incoming customers (I suppose it's a good indicator of a good store?) However, this made the lady quite unfriendly and eager to close the sell as quickly as possible so she can move to the next customer. I don't know if she was alone the whole day or a colleague didn't show up. While I totally understand that she might be tired and just wanting to lower the stress level, I, as a customer didn't feel i was welcome; what I need is a good customer service. Every customer is supposed to be treated with a smile and not feel he's pushed to make his choice as fast as possible. Doesn't really make you comfortable and wanting to come back, right? I don't know if she's always alone or if it's just my luck, but I would recommend having 2 people at the counter for everyone's comfort. Bottom line: nice products, good quality and passable customer service (for now?). I will still come back because currently they're one of the best shops in their category as far as I know.

By far one of the worst customer service I’ve experienced in some time! The old man and the young woman who work there have a temper and the WORST customer service. I would describe their customer services as below average as they clearly struggle to follow instruction. Their arrogance alone is baffling. If a customer wants to customize their orders that shouldn’t be a problem. If their is a policy or menu change than you are expected to POLITELY and CALMLY address this to the customer. But unfortunately, their response was quite childish, and their actions prepubescent. Not to mention, the young lady out of frustration and pettiness decides to pick all of the deformed pieces of pastries…well your message was received! We will not longer be returning and I would advise the Somali community of ottawa to steer clear of this nonsense:)

  • Chowdhury Zaman

Terrible service! Defeats the fact that what they sell is really good. Terrible because: (1) Only one person taking care of more customers than he can ever handle. The lines keep getting longer, and the guy keeps getting agitated. (2) When I mention to the guy that they ought to have at least one more person assisting him, he almost screams at me, saying (in heavily accented English), "Then you pay fifty bucks more for everything!" - Go figure! (3) For an establishment making such good business, you'd think they'd take payment with credit cards. But no! They don't want to lose the cents there either! Bottom-line: From their perspective, it's the best bang for the buck. Who cares about the customers? They'll keep coming, whether or not we keep them waiting or scream at them!

My friend went in to talk to the owner about collaborating since she is a food blogger. She went in to inquire and the owner came across rude and blunt. Absolutely disgusting behaviour shown by the owner, he should learn to respect his customers as customers are number one in making any business successful. I would recommend the owner to read, The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz., a book about how to run a business because he clearly does not know how run one, coming from an entrepreneur himself. Lastly, I have told all my friends in Ottawa to not visit this bakery!

If i could give a zero I definitely would. Horrible costumer Service. Not a smile or a hello. The sweets are rotten and old. The old man with the mustache is a racist ( a great racist) and a disrespectful. He was smiling with an Arab person like him who was before me and when he served me he completely changed his face and began to frown his face. Ugly look on his face . I immediately said that I do not want any more cakes and I went out to go to another place. I do not recommend going to this place and giving your money to a guy who does not deserve a cent of your money.

  • Nadia Mishaal

If i could give a zero I definitely would! Horrible costumer Service. Not a smile or a hello. They also act so rude with customers. I told them over the phone to write something on the cake and when I came to pick it up it wasn’t ready! And she was made because I told her where’s the writing! The sweets are old and tested bad. The girl with a hijab is rude and disrespectful. She doesn’t even answer my questions when I asked her. I do not recommend going to this place and giving your money to those rude staff who does not deserve a cent of your money.

  • Hoshyar Esmaeilzadeh

Very fresh pastries, but this is the second time they short me on change knowingly, went there on this last Sat Sept 10. Total was 37$ I gave 40 and she clearly thought I wasn't looking and gave me back only 1 and moved on quick. Again I don't think it was a mistake one time as this is second time it happens clearly, something isn't right with the service I was going to tip that amount anyway but I would rather tip it not get shorted . Good pastries bad service unfortunately. Fix it or we'll have someone look into it .

  • Fedaa Alfaraj

If I can put zero I would . I went to pick up an order for my friend’s birthday. Very rude and bad customer service. The order was for two cakes with clear instructions around pineapple allergies that were clearly not considered as both cakes were decorated with pineapple. The old man working there was every rude and started yelling as I was walking out of the door. Clearly they don’t care about their customers this is the last time I will be doing business with this place.

  • Keeks Murray

Horrible costumer Service. Was truly giving me the side eye the whole time I was placing my order. Not a smile or a hello. Its called costumer service. Learn some before going out and serving costumers. Ugly look on her face the whole time experience was horrible. If you want to go to a place where they have amaxing food and GREAT COSTUMER SERVICE go to LABOCCA JUICE. Family oriented and amazing costumer service.

  • Medihah H

The cakes are amazing and always very light but delicious. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the last time I ordered a cake over the phone and when I went to pick up they said there was no history of the call and no cake order was made. Thankfully they had one in the freezer in the back so they were able to get it ready for me within 15 minutes of me waiting but still a bit disappointed

  • Shuaib S

Always a pleasant experience with good customer service and delicious baklava. Never burnt or dry like some other places. I've been going here for over 15 years and the quality control is top-notch. I appreciate that dedication and care. It's a respect for the food and a respect for the customer so I remain a fan. Every celebration time, this is where I go to get baklava treats for friends and family!

  • Easy E

Has a good selection and was open when I arrived. Prices were good and they had what we were looking for. Beware they charge 25-50¢ to accept a debit card, there was no sign advising me of this ahead of time and no way to avoid paying it. for an $80+ transaction it's a bit of a scam, and I usually avoid business that try to offload their merchant costs to the end user. No Credit Cards accepted

  • A Schieda

Well we went in and were practically ignored for 5 minutes. Well we don’t look Arab so it felt like we were annoying them. The man with the moustache came from the back ...no one even said hello. Then the girl finally decided to help us. And we purchased some treats, and then an Arab man entered and was immediately greeted and helped. Nice. I hope the pastries taste good. Won’t be going back.

  • Nusaibah Hamid

The worst customer service in Ottawa. I ordered a birthday cake over the phone and I went to pick it up, but the girl who was taking the orders was very rude and when she put the cake in the cardboard cake box angrily she ruined the cream of the cake. She kept treating me rudely that she ruined the day! If the staff continues to behave in this way, it is better for them to close the shop.

  • Patrick Dean

Unpretentious Middle Eastern bakery with cakes and biscuits on one side and a large array of Tunisian or Egyptian goodies on the other (apologies for not knowing their names or exact origins). Much better tasting than what I have eaten elsewhere, the stuff is made with care, good ingredients, and is fresh. Recommended. Also it stays open late, I have been there at 9pm and it was open.

  • MT

Their cakes generally taste good. However, I’ve ordered cakes expecting them to be fresh, but for the past few times they’ve sold me rock hard frozen cakes. This is super embarrassing and disappointing when it’s time to have birthday cake and it’s frozen and no one can eat it. If you’re going to sell frozen cakes at least make sure they’re dethawed first.

  • Omar Abbas

Delicious sweets update 2022 consistency is the key! Osamaliyeh rating 8/10 Madlou2a 8/10 3asafireh 8/10 Da3oukiye 8/10 Tart fraise 9/10 Cakes 7/10 Staff super friendly Price $$ fair The only issue is that if your late, certain items will already be sold out. I try to call to book my plate. Highly recommeneded for sweets

  • Mohammad Mahdi

The location is good, the sweets are decent but the customer service is horrendous. I would give them a pass if the baklava was delicious, but I've had same quality from prepackaged baklava. If you're in the restaurant business with decent food, your food better be amazing, this place fails at them both.

  • Jasmeen Kaur Arora

The best place to buy readymade cakes and pastries. The base is very soft and delicious. They do tend to sell out very quickly. If you are looking for custom made cakes, this might not be the best place as they dont do complicated stuff and are very busy as it is. The prices are good and affordable.

  • Wael Aoude

Ordered 2 large cakes 3 days before my birthday event, they ended up giving me a 3 day old cake(at least), both cakes were stale and dry. I called a day before to make sure they gave me fresh ones and double checked when I picked up, I was told they were fresh, which obviously wasn't the case...

  • Andrea Perrier

Amazing! The strawberry shortcake is the best I've had since Swiss Pastry closed it doors. It's light and airy and I couldn't be happier, except it could have more strawberries inside. However it will be the cake I take to every party...bonus it comes in 2 sizes! Medium for $30 & large for $50

  • Pierre D

Im from Montreal and we have many lebanese places that serve knéfé. Tasted this one from Le Roi and honestly it is one of the best ones I have ever tasted!! The kaek is a bit big (bread) but still good. The cheese in the knefe is just amazing. Melts in your mouth. Very friendly family service

  • Retro Games M (Retro Games)

Good bakery, very creamy cakes, forgot to write Msg on cake and forgot to fill it with fruits though I paid extra for it . But never mind Cake was good. The cakes are typical middle eastern n Persian style with limited choice not Canadian.Very Good people working there n making everyone happy

  • M. Y.

The very poor customer service really defies the cravings one may have... The owner did not greet any customer - the usual. A young woman was in training, and the way the owner mistreated her was disturbing. It was not a pleasant experience. The sweets are okay, but not my first choice.

  • Omar Elias

Great place for fresh deserts, cakes, sweets and a mix of middle Eastern treats! Love the knefie, one of the best places for it in the city.. even better priced and better than the few places I’ve tried in MTL! Always fast friendly service and my place togo for a sweet treat, or gifts.

  • TheDallol

፟I would have given them 5 stars if they had not have a terrible customer service. I can't believe how a business person in Canada can give such a poor customer service. To order a cake is such a nightmere. They should hire more people and make the guy take customer service training.

  • SueM. H

Saturday August 12, 5:30PM.the Oldman there needs to rest. He is rude and aggressive to us and to his employee, he was yelling at her which made us very uncomfortable. Just for the record old man everyone speaks Arabic nowadays and we will be taking our business else where!

  • Oumaima Elrh

Impolite person serving clients. Made me feel extremely angry today. I asked her nicely about the prices of two cakes and she made it clear that’s bothering her by rolling her eyes right in front of my eyes. I was very happy to come to this bakery and this person ruined it.

  • Pawel P

Great bakery, lots of tasty regular and Lebanese sweets. Everything is very reasonably priced and the quality is great with enough cheese or other ingredients. Everything is fresh and the service is very nice in English or Arabic, highly recommended if you're in the area.

  • Eman Abd Elrasoul

The worst customer experience. They messed up our order instead of a large white cake they gave me chocolate cake, that was neither fresh nor tastes good. When we called them they wouldn’t give me another cake or refund me. We literally threw the whole thing away!!!

  • Gertrude Wilkes

The cakes are just lovely! Real cream, generous embellishments of white chocolate, toasted nuts and fresh fruit. Petit Fours by the pound and more kinds of baklava and other middle Easter delights than you ever imagined! Helpful staff...no credit cards are taken.

  • JML m

Tried calling to place an order with them. Very very rude person on the phone. I called to place an order he dismisses you by saying he’s busy and just hangs up. Il be ordering elsewhere. The 1 star reviews are right. Horrible customer service

  • Ram Jam

Handmade pastries made with real ingredients. They make the best chocolate eclairs in the city and their fruit tarts are just delightful. I've always received friendly service and prices are excellent compared to any other bakery in the city.

  • Connie

Waited long to be served... so many people came in and out of the kitchen and didn’t even consider to help me... they aren’t very friendly either... but the cake i did get (strawberry shortcake) was good... just wish their service was better.

  • Renata Yaacoub

This place has great Lebanese deserts including knefe. Recently bought this cake for my mom's birthday. They have the same one with white chocolate shavings. It's a black forest cake. They have small and large size cakes. Service was good.

  • Angie Mezher

My husband got me a cake for my birthday. After we celebrated with our 4 children, the second day we were all sick and vomiting. That was the only thing we ate that day that was not home made. I will never step foot in this place again!

  • M S

Great pasteries at reasonable prices come with a cost. That cost is pleasant and happy staff. I can say that IF you want better pasteries you need to drive to Laval. If you want better service go practically any where else.

  • Chaker Zouari

I went in yesterday for the first time with my friends and was impressed with the great customer service and polite attitude by the cashier! Our sweets were delicious and I am definitely going back again! Thank you!

  • Jeanine Aoun

I really love this place amazing cakes and pastry but when I went yesterday they gave me dessert in a tray with two piece of black hair disgusting probably won't go there agian since they are not no longer clean

  • Rawad Elias

It's your typical Lebanese pastry. It's pretty good. The best is the Petit Four (cookies), and the Knefi is good too. The Baklava is ok, and so are the cakes (mostly Black Forest style). The knefi is loaded!

  • Fox RunningWater

So good!!! Aside from the delicious baklava, one of the only places in Ottawa to get real French pastries made with real cream and butter. Prices are also very fair. Plus, they are open late. Love this place!

  • Diane

Awesome desserts, I picked up half moon desserts stuffed with walnuts last week, brought them home they were a little stale, not stuffed enough and too much syrup saturated. Didn't like them and I'm lebanese

  • saad Alami

I went to have some pastries there. I waited long to be served. The service was not good. The lady at the store was not happy. The Kanefa was dry and old. The lady still sold it to us. I will never go back.

  • Ashley Tse

So delicious! None of the desserts were labeled when we arrived, but to be fair, we arrived 5 min before closing. The desserts were all reasonably priced (3 desserts for $4) too! Would definitely go again!

  • Tyrie Hermias

Their cakes are absolutely delicious. The icing and filing are not sugary sweet like a lot of standard cakes which for me is perfect. Very reasonably priced as a well. Definitely recommended this place.

  • Sam A

The employee was so RUDE. If you want to see bad customer service then go there. Strongly recommend going to Accacia Fine Pastries & Desserts on St. Laurent, better food and better service by far.

  • Najam Khan

The best fresh made cakes and sweets in Ottawa. Anyone who says they're not going back because of the customer service is probably going to sneak back in because the stuff is just so good …

  • Fatima C

One of the best cheesecake in town. Worth calling in to get one made otherwise they might not have left the day you go in. It's light and yet satisfying and not overly sweet. Highly recommend.

  • Hussein Z

The desserts are good, especially the cakes, and the pieces are generous. Yes, they lack good customer service and the owner is loud and may be rude but has the heart of a child.

  • Gregory B

Strawberry shortcake had one strawberry on the top… that’s all. Not overly impressed. Cake selection was okay. No prices posted and I’m sure certain people pay more than others.

  • DR. ABRAHAM

  • Fouzia Haider

The baklava and pastries are fresh and very much affordable. Difficult to resist sugar when I am around this store. If you are in town, it is a must try.

  • Hassan Belhamria

Very good place for cakes and desserts. Affordable prices. Is not been my case, but also agree that could be improvements in customer service.

  • Mo E

I feel like my money is worth less here. What is customer service? The cakes look good from far but are far from good.
