This tribunal is very easily accessible via the train. The building is nice and easy to find, with good facilities. I do think that they should ask if there is a conflict of interest though because at my pre-hearing, the judge happened to be from a well established law firm in Leeds. This was one of the many solicitors in Leeds that I had called to make some initial enquiries about my case but just as well that no one at this firm answered the phone. I had decided to represent myself initially as it was only a pre-hearing. What could possibly go wrong? I had read that employment tribunals were initially set up as an opportunity for an employee to directly address the employer rather than get a solicitor to do so on their behalf. At the pre-hearing, the clerk vanished early on after introductions so no notes were ever circulated by the tribunal to document what had been said. The opposing side were also allowed to bring in at least one extra person into the tribunal if not two, who sat at the back of the room unchallenged. This was likely an isolated case of incorrect procedures. We know this as cases that get to the hearing stage have the outcome published. Although, after trying to follow up my concerns, I no longer had the energy to source a solicitor and progress my case to a hearing. Anyway, I followed the complaints procedure and emailed the appropriate person (this is the MP for your constituency). I received a reply about 2 days later, the response giving the impression that my complaint had not been looked in to. At least, I was never part of any investigation or its outcome as there were no further questions (for me).
