I would not even rate them a One star because of post requirement.. and because of such negligence.I spent over $500 in Lelia’s bakery in Astoria NY and I bought 10 dozen pastizz like I did for the past 10 years to share with my Maltese family the ricotta cheese pastizz was blatantly sour. We check several bags that were all bad by several different family members, they felt ill after indigestion.. It wasn’t a case of taste .. you knew it was bad . When I called to advise the establishment they said there food policy is once the food leaves there store they are not responsible for any liability.. Not Even an exchange was offered.. I have been patronizing this bakery for over 10 years. It’s a disgusting shame that they would not except the responsibility or liability that the ricotta cheese was bad. They would not take the uncooked ones back. . This is totally unacceptable with the absorbant cost of food these days and around the holidays shame on them. The NY state board of health should review Leli’s Bakerys procedures and establishment for review, 35-14 30th avenue Astoria NY 11103. If you don’t want to get sick do not go there. They should be shut down. To spoil a beautiful Maltese tradition of having pastizz around the holidays and they ruined it shame on them and who ever buys anything in that bakery. I will be in touch with my legal counsel for recourse..

This place is truly a gem. Their pastries are delicious and they have a good range of sweet and savory. Pastizzis are their specialty and those are excellent, with a crisp pastry and an abundance of filling. I recommend the spinach and cheese one. They also have a good array of breakfast options and their omelettes are solid and come with a coffee. What inspired me to write this review however is how impeccable the customer service is. I remember the first time I ordered delivery and they forgot to include my coffee that comes with the omelette. I thought no big deal since I mostly just wanted the food, the coffee was a happy addition. 20 minutes later the delivery person was back with the coffee and an apology for forgetting! Last time I ordered, my order was incredibly late due to a back up on their end then later a miscommunication with the delivery person. I ended up canceling my order on Seamless but 10 minutes later the delivery guy shows up, apologetic and explained what happened and insisted I keep the order on the house anyway for my inconvenience. I think these small gestures and the quality of their food, I will be coming back for a long time!
After a recommendation from a former Astoria resident, we stopped in Leli's bakery on our way home from NYC last September. This place is AMAZING! The breakfast was fantastic and of course they had my black & white cookies, which do NOT exist where I live in Illinois! I bought all the rest of the black & whites before we left so I could bring them back home! If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping here! The staff is helpful and very courteous. I even had a lovely chat with an Astoria resident who directed us to a nearby park to take our dogs and son before making the 14 hour drive back to Illinois. Would love to see a gift card/gift certificate option so that I can send my niece, a Brooklyn resident, gift certificates to your wonderful establishment! Oh and if you ever want to offer shipping to Illinois, I'll be your top customer for black & white cookies, and rainbow cookies!! Thanks so much Leli's for a great experience!!
Such a friendly experience! I will start with that note. The gentleman (I believe was the owner) was such a delight! I ordered an assortment of macaroons, raspberry rugelach, and a cinnamon roll. The guy tossed in an almond croissant for free, which I really appreciated. My gf loved the almond croissant and had nothing but good things to say. I absolutely loved the rugelach. Right amount of sweetness in every bite. I gave the macaroons as a gift. The person felt that the macaroons were okay, but nothing to yell from the mountain tops about. I didn't enjoy the cinnamon roll. I'm unsure if it's the frosting or the cinnamon filling. I took two bites and was over it. I will say that the goods in this bakery are very appealing to the eyes. It makes you want to buy so many goods, however, looks don't always match taste. I would definitely go back for the rugelach!
This is the best bakery in Astoria. Hands down. I’ve been here a few times and every time the pastries just melt in my mouth. My first time in the owner had personal pumpkin pies - I got a couple and he gave me one for free to try. It was 100% the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had - the filling was perfectly seasoned, the crust was perfectly flaky without falling apart altogether. Similarly I’ve gotten croissants, spinach puff pastry, and scones there that are all the best I’ve ever had. The cranberry scone in particular was flavorful and literally melted in my mouth the way scones should (most people make scones way too dense and dry. Not so here). The owner told me once he uses European butter and it really makes a difference. I’m shocked this place isn’t in higher demand. But they’ve got a loyal customer in me!
This bakery is one of the reasons I love NYC so much. It is the only Maltese bakery in NYC, and therefore a must try destination for the culturally interested foodie. Today was my third visit and I can't wait to go back. The pastries are extremely fresh. The cheese danish is amazing, and you must try the traditional Maltese Pastizzi. Special shoutout to Karim who always makes me feel welcome. Thank you for making this such a great place! I highly recommend everyone give this place a try. These are tough times for the food industry, so we must support family businesses such as this gem now more than ever which help make our city one of the most diverse on the planet.
I’ve been here a couple times and it’s been a great place to grab a coffee and flaky pastry with friends or get some work done. But today, I picked up their mini carrot cake for my boyfriend’s birthday and unfortunately it was old - the cake was dried out and the frosting was hard. I also bought the chocolate cake and it was a little better, but not by far (still dry and tasteless. We ended up throwing both out which is $28 down the drain. I want to support this place but even the chance of getting an item of such poor quality makes me less inclined to return. I hope they implement better quality control and worry less about filling the display case.
Edit: The last two times (now 2/3) we've gotten the black and white cookies they have been.. not great. Essentially $14 for subpar quality cookies isnt a great feeling. The first iffy couple the icing wasnt made properly and didnt set up, which cause ALL of it to peel off and stick to the paper. The latest they were simply very dry and not very appealing. It's unfortunate because I was happy to give them the great review, but the massive inconsistency for the price needs to be accounted for. Surprisingly excellent coffee and amazing New York black and white cookies. Native NY girlfriend says they're the best she's had with our first time trying them!
Loved this place the first time I went. Pastries are incredible- but when I went today I was absolutely scammed. I was charged $26 for 6 small cookies and a slice of coffee cake. Last week I was charged $17 for 9 cookies-including 4 I decided to repeat purchase today. Something very strange happened when they decided to ring me out today with putting my slice in the box to up the price I paid. She then said she forgot to charge me for my 2 hot chocolates and this brought my new bill to $36. Definitely didn’t make me feel the holiday spirit and I’m very disappointed by a local favorite.
This man can bake!!! Hands down! I got cannolis, pistachio biscotti and red velvet cookies. All delicious but we had me weak in the knees was a sample of his baklava!! So I’ve never really been a fan of baklava because it’s always usually to sweet. You can only eat a bite at a time. But this man’s baklava was so balanced I can’t explain it. It was more flavor than sweet. You got a hint a sweet in the beginning, then you got the pistachio and flaky pastry, at the end it was sweet again! So balanced so delicious. Best Baklava in the city on my momma! Fight me.
Their bakery cookies were delicious. Almond cookie was out favorite….however we walk in and the owner/manager decided to scream the menu at us across the bakery. I was there specifically for patizzis- if you know traditional meat and cheese patizzis you would have been so disappointed with the meat one. It was like a Jamaican patty meat. Very disappointed as I waited so long to go there for them. Then I ask to heat few up and they were completely cold inside. The manager was all over the place and the counter fork seemed to be pulled everywhere. It was overwhelming to see.
This used to be my favorite bakery in the neighborhood, the owner was a great guy who always made you feel welcome and had such amazing recipes. The new ownership is a huge disappointment. The cookies were WAY too sweet, the spinach pie (if you can even call it that, with how little spinach was in there) tasted like freezer burned spinach and rotten egg, and the pastry was limp and tasted of cardboard… Not sure what happened, but this is a huge loss for the neighborhood. I’m glad the previous owner is taking some time to himself, but we will all miss him so much!!!!
I ordered a Tres Leches Cakes last Friday to pick up Saturday for my birthday party. My husband picked it up on Saturday. So, what I got instead if what I ordered was a pretty looking vanilla cake with vanilla frosting instead. It was an average cake. The ones at Cotsco and BJ taste better. I was very upset when I cut it and served it. I even wonder if they know what a Tres Leches Cake is. I would have rather them to tell me NO we don't do that, than say yes and give me something I didn't order. Disappointing. I will never order from this place again.
Leli's Bakery opening time is set to 7am. There was a slight delay on the morning I stopped to pick up baked goods. I waited about 15 minutes before the owner opened it. I had their rolls before and was looking forward to get some for a family breakfast. Unfortunately they don't have rolls baked that early. I got a loaf of bread (sliced). At the $5.75 per loaf, it didn't disappoint in the taste. Family loved it and I had few slices on the drive home. I had their cakes and cookies before and this bakery is worth the extra money for the treats.
This place changesd ownership and the new owners have JACKED UP the prices BIG TIME! Last week I went in for an egg and cheese croissant and drip coffee and it was over $15. I was surprised, but didn't say anything. Tonight, I went there to buy a pumpkin pie for a Friendsgiving dinner and it was $33 for an 8 inch pie that doesn't even look appetizing. I won't be back, and I certainly won't feel bad when they go out of business. There are a lot of great bakeries in Astoria. Bye Leli's!!!

Upon walking into the bakery it smelled wonderfully like butter, I was instantly transformed into my mother's kitchen. I had bread pudding fresh out of the oven and my girlfriend had a Chocolate cupcake with cookies and cream frosting and an Oreo cookie in it. The bread pudding was perfect, not too sweet & not dry. I've had many different versions of bread pudding but this one is the only that comes close to Mom's. I highly recommend ! There are other bakeries on 30th Ave, walk right past them and into Leli's, you won't be disappointed !
This place is so good. It was our first time in Queens and we have been there twice already. The cookies are amazing and so incredibly fresh as well as the pastries and baked goods. My wife went back in today to get more marble sable cookies (the best) and mentioned that the poundcake she got a few days ago didn’t last well in the paper bag walking home and without prompting or asking, Kareem gave her 1/2 a loaf at no charge. Such exceptional customer service and we’ll continue to come back. We highly recommend it.
This place changed the ownership, and I’m very disappointed. The previous owner had delicious croissants, and it was airy and buttery. I gave a new owner a try; after I cut it open, it is NOT CROISSANT! It is better to not sell the item in your store because it is just hard dense bread, no air pockets, dry, no butter. I also noticed the person who bagged and checked out the order was keeping touching his face and noise, no glove and didn't wash his hands. I no longer recommend this bakery to my friends and family.
We have been holidaying in Astoria for a number of years due to family. And that is how we discovered Leli's. A very friendly and hospitable owner. Who talks very passionately about his products. Ordered the necessary treats after various tastings. Everything that the proud owner had recommended, delicious. Difficult for a European to find a good strong coffee in the states. Leli's has it. Highly recommended to stop by. Order a dirty chai latte and of course the famous crab cakes. It's simply the best
I was doing a short dessert spot tour of this area of Astoria. I stopped at comfortland and chip and happened upon Leli’s along the way. I purchased a small lemon and coconut cake for a birthday. The person working was extremely kind and even let us taste a fresh brioche bun out of the oven. This is a traditional bakery spot, not a new or instagram buzz worthy location, but this had the best selection and quality out of my three stops. Will definitely recommend this place and come back for more
I am from California and needed a birthday cake delivered to a family member in Astoria. I called Kareem and he was awesome! I asked for the cannoli cake to be delivered at 10 a.m. but the recipient wasn’t home. Instead of leaving the cake there, he took it back to the bakery and made another (successful) delivery attempt about an hour later. He also called me when he the delivery was made. He made my holiday season a little less stressful and a lot more joyful!
I gave it 3 stars for the nice man working with a broken arm behind the counter with a sling and cast on. However: Coffee was mediocre. Certain cookies were better than others. The pecan pie was a challenge. I tried to like all of it. There's a lot to choose from but my choices had to have been met with: better recommendations. Rode from Ditmars to this place with hopes of a good pastry experience sadly it wasn't worth the stars on Yelp.
Leli’s is a go-to of mine in Astoria! The service is always wonderful and very attentive. I love their freshly baked goods and especially the dulce de leche cookies. My favorite item is their spinach pastizzi, it never disappoints. For breakfast, their turkey bacon, egg, and cheese croissant always starts my day off right! I also enjoy their entrees when I’m in need of a meal—their chicken and fries is a must try!
Hello , honestly I don't want people to know about this place ; it is a very small and beautiful and anything I want anyway I want ...it's magic and karim's attention is so lovely, and I feel that I won't have the privacy ...like it won't be for me this place when many people know about this , thank you very much for reading this , my friend asked me to write something, otherwise I wouldn't, have a beautiful Life
It was my first visit. I have never been in a Maltese bakery before. I got a croissant that was quite good and a delicious-looking treat like a piece of pecan tart dipped in dark chocolate that turned out to be wonderful. I gave that to my daughter, who thought it was exceptional. I look forward to trying more delicacies from this bakery, which is a standout even in New York City. A really exciting discovery.
A dream Italian/Sardinian bakery every neighborhood can only hope for. Astoria is very lucky to have Leli’s. Freshly baked quality products at reasonable prices with exceptionally warm and friendly service. From perfect Apple Pie for the holidays to delicious cheesecake for bringing to friends/family to cookies for everyday eats, you can’t go wrong. Go here to be taken great care of.
Picked up a tiramisu cake for a bday gathering down the block. The cake we got could not have been tiramisu, it had cheesecake in the filling and no coffee or lady fingers. Additionally, when we flipped over the chocolate bar with the writing on it "Happy Mother's Day!" was written on the back. Mother's Day was 3 weeks ago. I RARELY leave bad reviews, but this was pretty bad.
Great pastries and pies! I highly recommend this bakery. They have a variety of savory and sweet pastries, and both kinds are very good. The sweet ones are not overly sweet, which I really like. They're sweet in a balanced way so I can actually taste all the flavors, not just sugar. So far I've tried about dozen different things, and it's my goal to try all of them eventually.
Was welcomed with the smells of bread and pastries. It was a warm atmosphere with many things to choose from. I enjoyed the apple pastry I got, though there wasn’t a sign telling me what it was exactly, but it looked tasty. It didn’t blow my mind but my friend got cannolis filled to order and those looked great. I’d love to come back for some fresh bread.
Good Italian cookies places, they have some good pastries too, and also some Algerian traditional sweets(Mediterranean) prices are like everyone, not the cheapest out there, they could improve the diplay of menu and service but its ok, its not bad, they have tables, i wish they had outlets to charge your phone while having a napoleon with a late,
I have nothing but fantastic things to say about Leli's. I last minute had a baker cancel for a large event due to a personal emergency, and with less than 48 hours until our event, Leli's swooped in. Not only were they pastries they provided delicious, but they were a pleasure to work with! I will definitely be using them again in the future.
Leli's Bakery delivered vegan chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes to my company event and we loved them. Everything was fresh and delicious. Delivery was on time and was packaged beautifully upon arrival. Their customer service is super accessible with any last minute updates. Thank you! I look forward to working with this bakery again soon!
I love this little bakery. The owner is so nice and passionate about what he does. There are pastries made here that aren’t made anywhere else in the city, his craft is unparalleled. We’ve gotten cakes made here for birthdays that came out exquisite, and every bite we’ve ever had has been divine! So lucky to have this in the neighborhood.
Used to be my favourite place. I always bought a few extra things because the previous owner was so welcoming and always recommended me amazing treats. With the new owner, I bought a croissant that was rock hard (like I could literally bang it against my countertop and it was fine) and the rest of what i got was below average quality.
The best bakery in Astoria. From the cakes, cookies to pastries to the food. Everything is done with excellence and top quality products. You cant go wrong with anything here. My favorite place to come! Highly recommend this place. Best lemon merengue ever and I don't like lemon merengue. But there's nothing bad here at all.
A neighborhood staple! This place has a case of cute mini cookies, macarons, and sweets so you can try a bunch of treats. The black and white cookies are always a solid pick. And for those seeking a savory fix, you'll find plenty of hearty pastries like croissants filled with cheese and spinach or mushroom and swiss cheese.
The woman who was behind the counter couldn't answer simple questions like what kind of cupcakes do you have. She seemed bothered that I was in the bakery. The coconut topped cupcake that I bought was completely hard.

Best napoleon I've ever had, and I don't usually like napoleons! The laminated pastry game is top notch here. It's not the cheapest, but everything is clearly made with care. The owner was very kind. Very happy to support this spot, especially in an economic climate that's especially tough on small local businesses!
I stopped going to this bakery after the previous owner served me bad milk. No biggie it happens.I informed him the milk is bad so he threw a tantrum and served me that same milk from that same carton just steamed. Never went back. Glad to see someone new took over and so far so good so please keep up the good work.
Hadn't been here in a year or two, but it is great. Service was very good. I ordered a veggie burger for lunch. It was hand made right when I ordered. It wasn't a traditional patty but actually ground up zucchini, mushroom, and other veggies that we're only ground once I ordered. Was very good and very fresh.
I have been going to this family-owned bakery for years now and this place is just wonderful. The owner is absolutely fantastic and so is the food, coffee and fresh baked bread and pastries. Their fresh-squeezed orange juice is my ultimate favourite! Best fresh orange juice I have tried in Astoria.
My friend and I each enjoyed a Harney's Peppermint Tea here. I knew the late John Harney and his teas are awesome! My friend had something which I will call an Almond loaf (rectangle) with a touch of raspberry which she loved. I had a traditional Black & White cookie which was just a touch stale.
The atmosphere is warm and kind. Been here a few times but forgot to review -- yesterday reminded by the iced mocha with the REAL cocoa, not syrup! Crumb cake, meat pie, spinach pie, mushroom; you cannot go wrong here. If we lived a bit closer I'd likely be spending off all my $ here!
Walked in trying this place for the first time and it was awesome. Super easy was greeted immediately and was taken care of. The gentleman working was awesome and funny. Real class A business owner. I ended up getting the red velvet cake it was on point. Give this place your business
Old-fashioned family bakery feel with wonderful staff who make you feel welcome and have you leaving happy. Personally bought an assortment of cookies for the holidays which are fresh and delishious. The cakes look beautiful in the case and I'm sure they taste as good as they look!
very sad to hear of leli’s closing soon. i will miss u forever. the best cheesecake and friendliest service ever. i drank the most beautiful macchiato of my life here. what a great store in the community, wish you all the best

I love Leli’s! With all the stress from work and remote school for my kids, I decided to take them here on a whim. Every time we need a break, we come here from Brooklyn and it’s always worth it. The owner is amazingly kind, and everything we’ve gotten has been so good.
BE AWARE the new ownership has almost DOUBLED the price for Thanksgiving Pies!! We weren’t aware of the ownership change and recently ordered one. It was $15-20 MORE than any other bakery on the neighborhood. An 8” pie is $45!! We’ll go somewhere else next time. …
I would not advise ordering from this restaurant. They will turn their phone off but still take delivery orders. I ordered a meal and it never showed up - when I attempted to call, I got a message about not accepting voicemail. Please consider another restaurant.
Recently ran in here to get some last-minute treats for a friend's birthday. The guy behind the counter could NOT have been nicer. Chatted me up and helped me pick out some things that she would love. Good people with good product deserve your business.
Simply the best. The owner is a great guy. The cinnamon rolls are ridiculously awesome. Breads, cakes, cookies, savory pastries, sandwiches and more are all fantastic. They have a few tables so you can sit and eat and relax. The place is perfect!
This place was amazing. The royal chocolate cake slice had layers of different textures and was superb. Kareem's personality made our night. We walked out with a smile and feeling loved. "He just wants to feed you good things" vibe is what I got.
This is my second time getting cookies from here! I traveled all the way from fresh meadows just for these cookies! The guy who I assume was the owner, was really nice and helpful ! My husband enjoys the pastry very much! I highly recommend !
Hands down the best Cinnamon rolls and cheese danishes I've ever had in my 35 years! I live in Brooklyn and I make a weekly trip to Astoria to come here. The service is super friendly and the prices are amazing. You won't regret stopping by
I will never return to this bakery. I went to the bakery with my three year old brother and I let him pick out his own cake. He picked the chocolate fudge cake and I ordered it to go. When I leave the shop and I’m on my way home I open up
A Mixture of both cultures (Mediterranean and Maghreb/Western Arab cuisine and delicacies with a touch of American and French) all put together in the form of love and sweets. Awesome pastries, delicious cakes, desserts toasts and coffee.
I am not surprised and dissapointed with the owners, they don't advertise as the authentic croissant bakery but the actual reviews here. One person said, "the best croissants outside the Paris!". After tasting one and filling it in the
Leli's has amazing pastries and coffee. When you walk through the door, their is this cozy atmosphere that just begs you to come in and stay a while. They have soups and savory items that I have yet to try but, I really love their mini

First time at this shop and I’m now considering moving to Astoria. The selection is so wide, the classic style is so delicious, the baker let us try items and we got way too many items and will NEED to go back soon.
The oener was professional and put a smile on my face once I entered the establishment. Everything pastry the sold smelled delectable and delicious. The cookies I purchased were delicious and mouth watering.
Hands down BEST taste and variety of gluten free baked goods I’ve found in 25 years. And there are gobs of gluten goodies too. Sweet place for the mouth, stomach and heart. I gladly drive in from Manhattan.
This place is so good…a real gem in the heart of Astoria! I was bummed that so many old school NYC bakers have vanished, but Leli’s is the real deal. My favorite spot for breakfast or brunch… bar none.
Rude person on the phone refused to tell me the price of one item unless I come into the shop. I'll take my business elsewhere where they treat customers with a warm, welcoming and friendly attitude!!
Amazing bakery store! Everything is made in the store from scratch. I loved the pastizzi with ricotta filling so friable and tasty. The store is cozy and the staff is super nice! Highly recommended.
Absolutely amazing, my brother brought me these cookies home. I am from Kentucky and the ones around here are horrible. I could eat the whole box in a night. Thanks for a amazing fresh cookie.
Best bakery I’ve been to! The owner is really friendly and best of all his pastries are delicious. My wife sends me to get her Napoleons every week. I highly recommend this place!
Most friendly bakery owner ever! Their pastries are all made from scratch which is not that easy to find anymore. Their bread is amazing. Their shell pastries are must tries!
Visit Leli’s Bakery and Pastry today The new owner and his staff were amazing The pastry amazing. I will refer my family and friends to the store So happy to find this place
The only bakery in Astoria that is truly good!!! What a gem of a place!! Their stuff is just perfect! Not too sweet, what I highly appreciate! Love it!! So yummy ! …
Delicious gluten free options. Loved the almond custard / pastry. The entire top row of both cookie and Pasternak containers are gluten free. Definitely check it out!
DELICIOUS napoleon, elclair and macaroons. We bought both in the recommendation of the gentleman behind the counter. Best pastries!!! Will definitely go here again!!!
Popped in for a quick bite...great spread and some very tasty pastries! Spanakopita and a meat/pea pastry were so good! Very nice people too, 10/10 would recommend.
Great place for dessert. Bought their fruit tart and needed a bigger size. The owner made one in a jiffy. It was one of the best tart I had. Really enjoyed it.
Delicious sweet treats with tons of flavor. I’m still absolutely in love with the unicorn cake they made for my 18th birthday back in November 2018 …
Love this place very welcome staff and the owner amazing Excellent experience the cookies were delicious See you guys soon So happy to find this place
Charismatic owner and perfectly delicious treats!! His descriptions of each treat were spot on and tasted exactly like he described! Highly recommend!
Their hot chocolate and cannolis are delicious! The owner is very kind and friendly. A great place to go, especially during these cold winter months!
Great Pastizzis! So happy I could get these here and share a taste of Malta with my family! Their pastries and bread are very good too!
Cute place, great atmosphere, great pastries. This is a great stop for coffee and a pastry on the way to the N/Q from Steinway
Omg the owner is so pleasant the pastries are always fresh, his spin pie is amazing and an excellent Greek salad
Selling old cakes. HORRIBLE PLACE. Not recommended. This cake are so dried like a rock and it is like sand...
The best in astoria pastizi ,cream cheese smoke salmon on French baguette chocolat mousse and golden shrimps
Kind, friendly service with great pastries. We got fresh croissants and scones that tasted so good!
Love this bakery. They always do my specialty cakes. Everything I've had here is delicious!
Coconut Passionfruit cake is so good. Not to much sweet, less calories and well balanced.
I just got semolina bread for $6.50 ! Insane , I will never go to that place again !!!
Hand baked from scratch. Every bite is magical! My favorite is the mushroom gruyere!
