Had a distinctly 2 star experience here the other day. We went for my mom’s bday. She ordered the chicken and pickles appetizer dish and instead got a chicken sandwich with fries. When we asked the waiter if it was the right item, he very rudely pointed to the menu said said ‘that’s what you ordered’. As time passed we were increasingly confused about how this sandwich could be a shareable dish, so my dad eventually questioned the waiter about that. Like just asked why this dish would be listed under the shareable appetizers when it was a single person meal. The waiter eventually came back very apologetic. He brought some chips and salsa for us in a bag to bring home. That was appalling as an apology since they’d give those to you anyway on a normal day since you get unlimited of those at the table. Normally these chain restaurants give a little dessert or something when it’s someone’s bday and they didn’t even offer something once this error occurred. The chicken for fajitas was also bland, but thankfully the chicken from the dish my mom got by accident was actually great so that salvaged the fajitas. At least they didn’t charge for her meal in the end.

Om Monday March 27 we arrived to a very pleasant hostess who seated us. Our server (Maverick) arrived immediately, and patiently listened to my explanation of my severe food restrictions. He suggested options, and personally relayed this to the chef. As a result, our meals arrived surprisingly quickly, AND exactly as requested!!! We rarely dine out, because of these complications, and we're dumbfounded that Maverick made this such a wonderful dining experience. Thank you so much! Incidently, April 3rd, we thought, since we were in Ottawa we would try the Lonestar again, BUT we went to the one on Fisher Avenue, WHAT A MISTAKE!!! Needless to say, being greeted by an empty foyer, No Hostess, a bartender who was yelling non- stop for 3 minutes, who YELLED AT US that she would find us a seat, without ANY KIND OF GREETING! convinced us to walk straight back out the front door as fast as we could!! We jumped in the car and headed back to Kanata!! Which was another Great service. We took the time to explain all of this to the manager there too. She was also amazing!! Great restaurant! Staff! And meal!!!

This used to be my favourite restaurant for many years, but for the past year or so, it has taken a complete nose dive in terms of food quality, while the prices have sky rocketed over $90 for fajitas and 5 colas... Take for instance the new deep fried pickles (pictured) the presentation is nice, but don't be fooled, there is barely enough pickle to make up a single pickle! and that appetizer was $8 dollars. We complained, and management did bring us another order for free (Thank You), but paying $8 for two pickles is absolutely astonishing. The rice was another issue as it was clearly sitting out under heat lamps and the top layer turned rock hard! It crunched in my teeth, (this was at 6:30pm, not late night) and the colas were flat, no carbonation. I will say the server was extremely nice, and very helpful, Thank You. Lone Star head office, if you read this, send kitchen help to your Kanata store, they need it. I've been to many other stores across Ontario and they're great, but Kanata is in trouble. I've marked this a single star, to emphasize how far they have fallen form my 4 star rating 4 years ago.... Ouch! I'm hoping for a return to greatness.

Our server was absolutely wonderful. Even though they were short-staffed, he remained attentive to each and every table he was responsible for. He was also called to sing happy birthday in the midst of things. The food was extremely flavorful; I loved every bite. The only bad thing I could say was that the price for the quantity was just not worth it. At $40, I was expecting more than 8 strips of chicken breast and 10 pieces of medium-sized shrimp. Just think about it: that's only 4 strips of chicken and 5 shrimps per person. What that meant was I had to literally put one strip per fajita in order to maximize the number of fajitas. Then I had to ration 2 shrimps per fajita -- but I couldn't leave one shrimp all by itself, so the last fajita had 3 shrimps instead. Why could they not give 12 shrimps total?? That way, you could divvy them up evenly between 3, 4, or 6 fajitas depending on your preference. Anyway, I'm not just picking on Lone Star when it comes to value. Practically all restaurants are constantly increasing prices while reducing portion sizes. Eventually, people will just decide not to eat out anymore because it's simply not worth it...

Booked for 12 people for Retirement lunch. Restaurant had at least 6 groups of similar size. Waited for approximately 40 minutes before our lunch order was taken & then another 1 hour plus for meal to arrive. Guest of honour got wrong meal. While we waited we were given 1 small dish of nachos & salsa to share between 6 people. After we had waited for an hour we asked for more nachos & dip and were told quite rudely by the waitress “they’re not free!” We said they should be since we still didn’t have our food! At no time did the manager appear to apologize for the terrible situation, or explain why they were having such a problem. When the bills came they had computer problems and had to be done manually. At least one person got the wrong bill and one person didn’t get a meal at all. After much complaining, The waitress reluctantly told us she had approval to give us a 25 percent discount, A disastrous outing. Never again! The restaurant lost 12 local business customers plus everyone in their families as well.

My recent experience at Lone Star Texas Grill left me thoroughly impressed with their Tex-Mex style cuisine. The ambiance was vibrant and welcoming, setting the stage for a fantastic dining experience. The staff exhibited exceptional service, contributing to the overall positive atmosphere. The margarita, a classic Tex-Mex drink, was spot-on and added a delightful touch to the meal. As for the main course, the pork ribs and fajitas were nothing short of spectacular. The flavors were rich and authentic, providing a perfect introduction to this style of cuisine for someone new to it. I would highly recommend Lone Star Texas Grill to anyone seeking a Tex-Mex culinary adventure. From the ambiance to the service and, most importantly, the delectable dishes, it's a restaurant that leaves a lasting, positive impression.

Our server (receipt says Blaze 255) was absolutely awesome! Great personality, helpful and made sure our drinks were always topped up. The food was good, as always. (An order of Enchiladas and a Quesadilla ) Where things went downhill was upon leaving when I had to listen to the “Manager” (mid-aged woman with frizzy hair) standing at the bar laughing with the bar staff about the coupon that we had used for a free appetizer. (It was older but had no expiration date on it) It wasn’t very pleasant having to stand there, listening to the staff making fun of you. One might go so far as to say it is unacceptable, unprofessional and RUDE. You failed as a Manager, you failed as a leader for your team and you failed at making your repeat customers feel welcomed to return. A 5-star rating is for our one specific server and the kitchen staff. My 1-star rating is for your manager - May you continue to provide quality products and service despite the obvious ignorance of your “Manager”.

  • Amanda Chalifour

I was there june 20th for lunch to go. I ordered chicken fajitas for one, small queso and small bag of chips. When I went to eat my 40.00 lunch (now I don’t care about price but in this case I do) I opened the lids and there were like 3 pieces of peppers and mostly an onion but who wants to eat all onion on a fajita.. anyways I made my wrap and I took a few bites the chicken wasn’t fully cooked it was chewy and rubbery and gross!! I ended up throwing it out and grabbing something else for lunch as I was starving. I reached out to management and nobody got back to me .. Hence the late review. This location is getting worse and worse and I’m just about ready to give up on lonestar completely!

Had a table of 8. Two children under the age 2. Service was very accommodating. The manager actually checked on the table and introduced himself which was very nice for this level of restaurant. In my experience that usually only happens at high end restaurants. Been coming once or twice a year since high school and even then they treated us kids with respect and not like punks. Service seems to have gotten better but food has stayed the same which is good mid class food.

Service was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful. Decor is nice, but has been the same for years, maybe it's time for an update. Food is standard Tex-Mex with an American washed over style, meaning that nothing is overly Tex or Mex. LoneStar is becoming more generic food offerings. Nothing really stands out... maybe the chips and salsa, they are great. Minor tweaks in the kitchen could bring this chain restaurant back to quality food offerings, rather than generic and bland taste. It is not bad food, it is not great either.... middle of the road.

Party of 27 incl kids. Took forever to get the bills at the end because the server didn't match the kids to the parents prior to taking the orders. Did it in reverse and it took longer than it should have to get the bills. Table should have been one long table, not three separate tables of 8 or 9 (space could have accommodated this)

Went with family, had the Big Rig Burrito, and ive gotta tell you, it was great! And the alligator bites appetizer reminded me of a when I had alligator down in New Orleans, really good, we also had the Nacho appetizer and I've gotta say, these weren't the nachos I was expecting, but still very good, highly recommend. The food was Decently priced but we had drinks which drove up the cost.

When we arrived and were taken to our seats it took about ten minutes for our server to come over and greet us and take our drink order. We finally got our drinks and placed our orders. The food quality has gone down because we hardly got any toppings and they forgot items. They have reduced the portions of meat and toppings. It’s not how it used to be. We didn’t see our server the entire night until she gave us our bills so we couldn’t ask for what was missing and other servers were not coming over when we tried to flag down. The food was lacking and the service was awful. Probably the worst expensive I’ve had at Lonestar.

I used to go frequent this location on special occasions a lot when I was younger but my most recent visit was certainly a downgrade from what I was used to. Although the staff and atmosphere, and wait times were excellent, the food was very lack luster. I had the enchiladas and found that the main portion was good but the rice was bland, the steak was tough, the beans were far too sweet, and the ceasar salad had bacon bits that were clearly processed to hell in a factory. This place has really taken a nose dive in their food quality lately.

We had to ask the other servers for cutlery, condiments and refills as our server was missing for the most part of the evening. Our server got my food wrong. I ordered fish tacos and I got grilled chicken in my tacos instead. Instead of correcting it promptly, the blame was put on the kitchen. Our food came out 30 mins after we ordered on a fairly slow night. When it did show up - our food was cold and portion sizes were small. Overall, a dissapointing experience both in terms of service and value for money. We will be taking our business elsewhere.

My wife and I went to Kanata for a change of venue. Our server was Daisy which was I'm sure a nom de server. She was great. We had Taco Tuesday Special , our choice of beef, chicken or fish. While the tacos were a bit small they were tasty. They were difficult to keep together. We had a side of fries and they were top notch . I love the Lone Star.

My husband, daughter and I went for dinner on a busy Saturday night. We ordered and had our food within 5 minutes or less! Everything tasted awesome, the drinks were great, and the whole crew worked very well together. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic, her name was Courtney (Dakota might have been her call name ?!). I asked to speak to the manager so I could tell her what a great job she was doing, and it turns out it’s only her second or third week!! Phenomenal job, keep up the hard work

I've been here two times in the last three years and both times I came here with my colleagues and the company paid for the food. I had steak and shrimp fajita the second time. It wasn't something spectacular, it was just okay. The rice was uncooked, so I only had it with bread. And the bread was not cooked enough! The beef steak was good but the garlic shrimp wasn't very tasty. I didn't enjoy my lunch that much. I won't come back again if I'm paying for the food out of my own pocket. I should also mention that the staff were very nice and friendly.

One of the few places that advertise fall off the bone ribs that are actually fall off the bone. Service is at standard with what you can expect in your typical steakhouse, place was clean and tidy at first glance. Lost a star across the board because despite it being a southern style steakhouse there was a distinct lack of smoked foods and no pulled pork options that I was aware of.

My steak fajitas surprisingly lacked flavour although they were cooked perfectly. The corn chips on the table were fresh but so laden with grease that about half were inedible. The salsa was excellent. Service was great when it was present, but often really hard to get someone's attention. I don't understand why water isn't automatically on the table with the corn chips. When most people are drinking alcohol it's even more important to offer it, and ensure it's replenished.

When it comes to fajitas, there is no other...when it comes to how expensive the fajitas are, inflation plays a part, but no way should fajitas for 2 cost $100 or better. Ridiculous. Grocery store you can purchase pre-cut chicken or beef strips packaged and ready to cook, about $10 each. How is the AT LEAST $80 additional dollars justified??

Service was terrible. Never checked on us, never cleared anything away and it wasn’t busy. We sat at a table with this dirty looking drink station with a dirty looking tore up matt as our visual. Our server dropped their serving tray on this matt, serving side down, picked it up and continued using it. Gross. People walking by on this matt , who knows what’s on their shoes then cross contaminating onto people’s drinking glasses , hands and cutlery . It was also cold inside and I will not be visiting again.

This used to be one of my favourite restaurants, but the portions have gotten pathetic. We ordered “fajitas for 2” and this is all we got—one tray of toppings less than half full, $3 extra for an ounce of queso, and barely enough chicken for 4 small wraps. It was $53 and we’re still hungry. Staff are super friendly though! Good job there. But we’ll be ordering pizza next time. Update: The team reached out and made amends. We’ll give this another try. Thanks for the great customer service! (2020-Aug-03)

Love this restaurant . The fajitas were great . Margaritas were fabulous The servers are pleasant and quick to check with you if you need anything. It's a busy place. Arrived there around 5pm for supper and the restaurant was already full, which I took as a good sign that the food must be good. It was. The service was fast and friendly. I had the ribeye steak. So tender and delicious. You could tell by watching it was a well run establishment. It was my first time at this chain restaurant. If they are all as good as this one I will try others for sure.

Floors were pretty gross, service was slow af. Waited an hour at the minimum for food to come out (not ideal with two children) and that was on top of the 40 kin wait to order. And is it just me or did the Fajita Fiesta bundle get more expense for half the amount of food? Absolute rip. Super super disappointed, use to be one of my favourite places to go.

I just went here. Food was great, service was really nice and friendly. But the tables were still dirty when seated and we were given menus that had sticky food/sauce stains all through them, one page was even stuck together. Our visit was December 21, 2021 Was a total disaster. The drinks came slow. The food my son ordered wasn’t correct. The taco plate I order came as fish tacos, which I didn’t order either. Our meals where delivered at different times. Nothing about this night went right. It would be different if this was a weekend but it wasn’t. The restaurant was almost empty. Spoiled what should have been a festive occasion as it was a birthday celebration

Lone Star Texas Grill We did a family birthday dinner here, place was well organized and is perfect for large groups. We ordered some of their new cocktails which all were pretty amazing to be honest, I had the blue bulldog which nice having the Corona upside down in it. The new Nashville hot chicken fajitas were awesome, loved it. Overall great food and experience all around. Hope it remains a standard on the menu

I wasn't expecting much from LoneStar, but wow! Amazing service and the food was on point. Had the fiesta combo with ribs, chicken, shrimp and steak. Tortillas came fresh and hot and the sides were all tasty. Typically, I'd give 4 stars even with excellent service, but I was wow'd by the way the staff worked together to serve the customers. Ill definitely be back and I recommend anyone to visit LoneStar!

Loved sitting on the patio having a nice evening dinner. We all know how tough it has been during covid for restaurant staff but they always go an extra mile to make customers feel better. Service was excellent for us, in time and the food tasted great. They were all following covid protocols so thumbs up for that. Will go back here again.

When we have arrived the hostess was very unpleasant, as if she had a very bad day, and when we were seated the place felt very uncomfortable . Until our waiter came and put us all at ease, we all started off with drinks that were very awesome. Then the food came, Amboy it was outstanding and fresh. The best fajitas I had in a long time

Jenna is rudest waitress I ever dealt with, I'm not sure how the manager justifies the way she deals with the customers. A very unpleasant service and won't be coming back. I suggest you avoid her if you want to have a good time.

I am very disappointed that the chicken now being used for fajitas was not fresh chicken. It was watery and lacked any flavour. For the price being charged, fresh chicken breasts should be used.

Nice Tex Mex restaurant, lots of choices for fajitas, tacos, hamburgers, wraps and salads. You have to try the Margaritas, they even have one that comes with a sombrero. The tequila shots special still available for 3.99 per shot, after so many years, still the same price

Great southwestern food here. The service is good and the atmosphere fits the menu with all the country flare. I've been here on many occasions and have yet to leave disappointed. The fajitas are the obvious first choice, but the chimichanga's are a personal favourite.

I need to change my review to :- at the designated pickup time the food was already at room temperature - Carne Asada Tacos had chunks of unchewable pieces of steak - cheese burger patties was dry & cheese looked & was dry overall overcooked - fries seemed like yesterday's batch that were reheated in the microwave

Great place. Staff friendly but could be slightly more attentive with a few things. Also, always check your take out orders from here. This is my 2nd time doing take out from here and I always seem to be missing something. Once sour cream and this time was unfortunately was a dip that comes with an appetizer.

Visited April 8, between 4:30-5:00 p.m. My second time visiting this place. Still a 5-star. Washroom is clean. Staff was courteous and polite. Server's name is Hurricane 349 (maybe this is a nickname or something) Food was tasty-- grilled steak fajitas for 2.

Such a nice place to have a lunch. Texas style restaurant with classic menu (burgers/ fajitas/ chips/ grill and etc.) Average cost. Kids menu is about 8-13cad, they get workbook with crayons, and every meal comes with drink.

Had lunch here. Nice big open space, you can watch them make the tortillas fresh. I mean, it's a chain, so I didn't expect to be blown away, but the staff was friendly and attentive, gave good recommendations on the menu. Only negative is the prices feel a bit high, but the food was delicious.

It was busy, and we had no reservation, so the wait was a bit long, but that was on us! Service was good, but needed to ask for refills on drinks. Queso is amazing. The quesedilla was quite greasy on the bottom, but the flavor was good!

Great service and food like always. Love the chips and salsa when you sit down, really hold you over till your meal comes. Fajitas are fresh and delicious. Waitress was fantastic, she topped up our chips and was very friendly and quick. Overall this is one of my favorite restaurants.

I ordered chick and steak fajitas for lunch to go. The price has gone up dramatically (30% - 50% increase, much more than the inflation rate!!). The food quality was so disappointing. This location is getting worse and worse, and we do not wish to visit any lone star ever.

I didn't like our visit to this location at all. Dirty floor, tasteless food!! I ordered guacamole as an extra for the fajita plate!! Literally, it was just one spoon for $3!! It doesn't worth it all. I Will never come back again...

shrinkflation is too bad at Lone star. Ordered Nashville chicken sandwich and the amount of fire was ridiculous. taste was good not quantity poor. They charge $20 for a sandwich and reduced the quantity. Not worth it.

Me and my daughter love the fajitas. It's all I've ever had in 20 years of going. Definitely a favorite. The portions seem like they have shrank a little. But where hasn't in the last few years.

Best Tex-Mex I’ve had outside of Texas (and I loved there for three years)! The flour tortillas are legit. Sometimes I go just to pick up tortillas. I recommend heating / singeing them over an open flame right before eating.

  • Omar Mahgoob

Nice ambience, family restaurant, great menu, good prices, and very friendly and helpful people. The service was fast and the food was hot and delicious. Definitely recommended and will come back to eat there for sure.

  • Midhun

Having been to authentic Mexican places (none in Ottawa), this place is nowhere close to good Mexican food. The food was ok, the enchiladas had too much of cumin taste. For the price that they charge, not worth it.

  • Burnuts

Love the lone star! I go chicken and beef and I don’t look back! Staff are always friendly and service is quick and very reasonable during the busiest of times! Food is always good and fresh! Pints go down great!

  • Denis Baudin

The chimichanga was pretty good. It could have used a bit more flavoring but in general very delicious and I finished it all with a nice side salad.
