This is actually a really solid spot to eat. Situated at the top of Bourke Street just below Oxford, it’s a natural convergence between Surry Hills, Paddington, and Darlinghurst. There are always a lot of outdoor seats in the mini-square and along the sidewalk. Even on Mother’s Day we were able to get a table for two immediately without a reservation. In a way it might even be too much seating—didn’t totally feel like I had a comfortable amount of space so I docked one star for that. It is certainly dog-friendly in that you can have your pup with you, but didn’t see much water bowls being offered out to the pups. And on more than one occasion we overheard or saw a dog at another table getting a little excited at the proximity of other dogs be it at neighboring tables or just passing close by on the street. I went with the fried chicken burger with kimchi and chips and it was very satisfying. The fried chicken skin was satisfyingly crunchy, and the kimchi, while messy, was undoubtedly delicious, and I don’t even like kimchi that much (gasp!). Partner had a tuna Niçoise salad and I was surprised that it was served on a bed of beans, olives, potatoes, and something green like an olive with a stem. I’m not a fan of olives, but my partner found it to be quite good, and filling—we ended up taking some of it away with us. And honorable mention for being adjacent to Lavie & Belle. The bakery right next door added the irresistible fragrance of freshly baked bread to our dining experience, and if I wasn’t so full after my burger I would have definitely picked up some croissants for dessert.
On the Burke St Cycleway and a stone throw from Taylor Square . Has good coffee and is great for people watching. It has a wrap around inside outside seating so you can chase the sun or avoid it. A comfortable feel and attentive staff make for a pleasant experience. I only get coffee and Vegimite toast and it always comes with real butter and plenty of it for the thick cut bread that is always perfectly toasted. Sorry about the food picture.. but is was so good I had to eat it directly ... There is always a rainbow flag out the front too. ((Amended... I think it's been sold... The mood was .. 'shut up customer . Your always wrong'. Can't say the experience was good. Because of a dramatic non binary person who works there being a tad too dramatic)). Pity really.. the coffee was ok
Food was ok, but expect to get your order for 40min. An old woman asked how was the meal when checked out, I was being super polite and honest to compliment food first then said a bit long wait for the food. Surprisingly, the old waitress with purple dye on hair said in a loud voice, our food are freshly made, so 40min wait is normal . I was hoping she at least apologised for a bit, but this was the attitude I got. After a few hours I still keep thinking of how rude she was. I checked the google rating before going to this cafe and rating 4.5 is really not bad. However, 4 is for the food we had (Cok Madame and Zucchini fritter), and 0 for the old waitress’s attitude. So it’s for sure I’ll never come back again, and i wish you keep the waiting time longer and longer
I have been to so many cafes in my travels..and I am one of THOSE people who likes things just 'SO'... as for this cafe I can honestly say... WOW... WOW.... WOW.. the meals are just the right size leaving you fulfilled and the amazing thought out flavour combinations are just mind blowing eg.. rose water shots with a breakfast dish... WHAT!!!!! The bar has been set for quality and quantity at this very clean and tidy cafe.. with a very inclusive multicultural atmosphere the cafe really is my pic of Sydney's cafes...stop in and say hello you will love it.. ( I am no way associated with this cafe except for loving the place) pics provided is my meal...
I was disappointed by my $20 ($18 for the toast and $2 per egg) avocado smash toast. The toast was so thin and dry it wasn't very enjoyable and there was hardly any avocado at all. This was pretty terrible value for money. I did see some other dishes that looked amazing so I think this place is just about ordering the right dish. The omelette on our table was also overdone and not nice. I think the avo smash could have been improved by being more generous with the thickness of the bread and the amount of avocado. The coffee was great and the staff were very friendly. I'd go back and try find one of the 'great' dishes
Lumerie means light! Yes for sure this light won’t made your taste unlit! Hi this is Nabin!and Its been 7 years cheffing around Oz! Don't even know where to start. Saturday is the only day I get to have breakfast with my partner and they f. everything. Order 2 soups after 20min or more only 1 came and after my partner finished her soup I was still waiting for my one so we decided to leave, she went straight to work and I had to go to another place to eat something, even the waitress didn't know what the soup of the day was. You guys literally f. the only day we have in the week to have breakfast together.

Visited on a rainy Sunday and the cafe was full and very busy the man who greeted us was very apologetic he couldn’t sit us inside straight away but offered a table outside to have a coffee and then transferred us in shortly after. Ordered some food to share the fritters came out light and fluffy and the shredded chicken sandwich was amazing with a fantastic basil taste. The English girl was very alert and attentive and was checking in to see if we needed anything else. Will definitely return A+++

My partner and I are locals and we regularly go to Lumiere for their delicious breakfasts and lunches. Not only is the location amazing, with lots of sunshine and (dog friendly) outdoor seating, but the personal service from the friendly young staff keeps us coming back. If you are in the area we would thoroughly recommend you stop in for a meal or just a quality coffee and one of Effie’s homemade cakes! It’s Mardi Gras now and there are fun events going on at Lumiere so keep an eye on their Facebook page. G&A
It is located on the side of the road. Parking is not easy as there are no parking lots around. But, the streets have parking on the sides so during non-peak hours there should be spots. Seating is available inside and outside for more than forty people. Food is really good, they have some signature dishes which are definitely worth trying. Staff are friendly. Service does take some time but not too long either.

Great experience! I was actually very excited to go to this place as the name was French (Lumiere means Light). Not all the staff was french though Anyway! The staff was amazing and very friendly. The food was really good and the coffee was tasty. They also offered cocktail and I did not resist to have one I would recommend this place! Definitely try their pancakes, soft and sweet. I don't remember the name of the other dish but the sausage was marvellous
I haven’t been to Lumiere in quite a while & immediately noticed that the menu wasn’t nearly as interesting as when Effie & George had Lumiere (& when Effie roadtested meals at home before adding to the menu) It lacked that uniqueness it once had (same goes for the outside takeaway counter) I thought it was odd that the chef left the prawn tails on in a prawn omelet

Food was tasty but service was patchy. After waiting for a while and finishing our coffees, we ended up going to the counter to order. The guys sitting next to us said they also struggled to order their second coffees after their meals. Not too much of a problem given its a public holiday and folks are probably moving at a slower pace.

I used to love coming here when I lived in Surry Hills until 5 years ago Stopped for an afternoon coffee and 'treat' for old times sake when in Sydney before Christmas. The service was slack, I had to pretty much ask if I could sit . Tiny Tim tam slice and a flat white $13.50! The server was too busy chatting to a friend to sort my bill, I had to interrupt to pay So disappointed after being away for 5 years.

Lumiere is a solid representation of what makes Aussie brunch great. Friendly staff, delicious Campos coffee, dog friendly and does a smashing smashed avo. Their ricotta hotcakes are a must try fan-favourite, paired with fresh juices that tastes like summer in a cup. Reasonable prices for the serving sizes and quality of food. Indoor and outdoor seating allows for larger groups and they split bills. I always look forward to visiting when in Sydney.
Great food and great service. I visited Lumiere Cafe today for brunch and it was fantastic. The food and coffee were great. I ordered an acai bowl and it was delicious. The serving size was a lot bigger than I expected with great selection of fruit. Special thanks to our server Toby, he was absolutely amazing.

Great location for brunch and a good selection of food to choose from. It can get quite busy on weekends so service may be a little slow. Beware that they do surcharge for card payments.

Modern chic cafe in the bustling north end of Surry Hills. Nice outdoor seating area. Good range of options on the menu. Went for the Mac daddy croissant. Mac and cheese super lush and bacon nice and crispy. Food probably came out a bit on slow side..but overall a good place for Sunday brunch.
Best breakfast in Sydney, and the nicest staff too. Could not have been a better way to kick off the day. Big love to you all

Always a favourite! The team pride themselves on exceptional service and take their menu very seriously. The service is fantastic, and meals freshly prepared. Very popular with locals particularly on weekends, so recommend booking for a table! Meals always make any wait worth it in peak times
Came in for a coffee. Asked if they did egg n bacon rolls by chance. They said theirs was famous so i gave it a go. Every bite was like spot on. Very happy to return. And get 2 next time.. Milk shake coffee cups should be mandatory. But very satisfied with the quality latte offered
Decent food, friendly staff (mostly), but was served by the rudest host/manager today. Immediately after ordering, he told us we had to leave in 30min… followed by an hour wait for our food. Constantly snarky, with no concept of customer service. The rest of the staff were great.
Coffee is good, food is very average but location, staff and people watching is really good. I really like this place just a shame they dont step it up in the kitchen!

Grab a sunny seat outside and bring your dog along for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Service can be slow if most tables are taken so come before mid morning if you are in a rush. The menu has something for most people, making it a local favourite.
Lumiere changed ownership last year. They change menu and chefs. It was a real institution but it is still a good place to go. The location is great, close to Oxford Street in Surry hills. They have a huge terrase with some direct sun mid
i forgot to order a 3/4 latte and ended up with a very milky latte which i hate, hence immediately ordered a 3/4 latte. the sweet sweet staff would not charge for the mistake i made. she was so gracious, it made the coffee taste better!
Worst lunch ever. Sitting outside so we could take our dog and sit in the sunshine. Drinks arrived but the food order never showed up. Waiter finally admitted he had not put it in, we were cold as the sun had left, and so did we. More
I had the best ricotta pancakes and berry compote with a caramelised banana. I'm going back to try other items which looked amazing on other people's tables! We had a super friendly staff member attending as well.
Attentive, friendly staff - provided us with blankets when it got cold outside. A little pricey, but food was great. Good cocktails

Quality of the food and service was exceptional, really enjoyed the Lumiere Style Eggs Benedict which was cooked perfectly and the coffee had so much taste, just how I like it
This is now a favorite and well worth trying; the Back area is comfortable and cool. The staff is pleasant and the food is great. Recommended. Pet friendly More
How do you make eggs benedict better, add some pork belly with crispy crackling. The staff here are always super friendly and your dog is welcome
Wonderful location, friendly staff. The croissant was would recommend to anyone looking for a chill place to spend a morning. …
The food is very nice and portions quiet big. The croissant with prosciutto and poached egg is really good. Also the granola!
Really friendly staff and great food. The ham and (provolone) cheese croissant was great- basic and no frills but so good.
Always great service from the team at Lumiere. Great menu and good prices for brunch when compared to local competition.
Appalling serving size with 5 thinly sliced chorizo as per picture. Paid $27 for this dish on ubereats.
