Beautiful park offering great views of Parliament Hill. Located only 5 minutes walking distance from Parliament Hill, this place offers a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Ottawa's city center. Apart from lush green vegetation it features a lot of historical monuments, statues and interesting maps and also an unobstructed view of Parliament Hill and the Rideau river. The park has a lot of seating and relaxing areas as well as large green meadows for people to play games or have a picnic. It is clean, safe and very well maintained. Public toilets are located on the north side of the park close to the National Gallery of Canada (inside are free toilets as well). The park's location between Parliament Hill (in the southwest) and the National Gallery of Canada and Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica (in the northeast) makes it an ideal midpoint to take a leisurely break while touring the city. During our visit, we encountered local volunteer guides wearing blue uniforms who graciously offered valuable information, maps, and helpful tips about Ottawa, adding an extra touch of hospitality to our experience. Visited on a Monday, July 2023.

A gorgeous park featuring some of the best lookouts in Ottawa, offering stunning views of the Ottawa Locks on the Rideau Canal, the Ottawa River and the Parliament Buildings. An exceptional site to see tulips blooming in the spring. Major’s Hill Park is the Capital’s first park, used as such since 1826, when the building of the Rideau Canal began. In 1867, fireworks and bonfires in the park marked the Capital’s first Canada Day celebrations. It was formally established as a park in 1875. A highly recommended spot if you are interested in taking a break in the shade from all the site seeing in Ottawa!! Very clean and well protected by police all around to keep you safe.

I’ve heard many people say Ottawa is one of the most boring world capitals in the world. Well I don’t think that’s fair to say because not all capitals are the same in the world. Ottawa is small by comparison with some other capitals but that said I find it far from boring. It’s clean and beautiful and has lots to offer. There are many many sites to see and enjoy. Major’s Hill Park is no exception. It’s a beautiful green space with great views all around and it’s in the middle of downtown and next to the Byward Market. Great views of the river and the Rideau Canal too. Can’t go wrong. ☺️

Went there on the Victoria Day weekend and it was great with all the different color tulips they had planted in one section of the park which is right opposite the Three Watchmen and the National Gallery. Great place to relax on a sunny day and do some park activities - picnic and some sports. Important places like the Parliament, National Gallery, Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica and Byward Market are just minutes away from here. Had a great relaxation time - a good place to break if you are tired of roaming around.

Such a beautiful park with amazing views of the Parliament Hill, Ottawa River and the Canal Can be a busy place but still a great place to have a picnic or lay a blanket down and enjoy the weather and atmosphere around with friends and/or family. There are also lots of things to visit nearby Very Clean and well maintained with historical information and displays It's a absolute must-see in Ottawa. Great place to enjoy the fireworks competition that's held every year in August.

A lovely park to stroll around nearby the byward market place to National Art Gallery of Canada as well as nearby to Parliament Hill I came during winter on a Friday so there was no one there the whole place was covered by snow and it's just with spectacular and beautiful to walk around You get to enjoy by walking around and see what the Nature has to offer look for the app you can see around the historical buildings with beautiful structure as a backdrop

  • Scarlette N.

Perfect for fall foliage. I didn’t have a chance to walk around the park and discover every corner but I already love it. Just walked around from the parking lot and took few shots with the fall color and Parliament Hills in the background. Perfect place for biking and jogging. Or just simply a walk around. Only thing is the parking is quite bad. You have to download the app, can’t pay with coin, only flat rates and the road is really bad.

Lots of open space to walk around on the grass, pathways, or sit on one of the many park benches. Beautiful view of parliament and Ottawa river, especially at sunset. There is a little hill perfect for sledding in the winter and lots of space for dog-walking! The park is right by Byward Market, the National Gallery of Canada, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and Rideau Centre. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in Ottawa.

  • deepank kartikey

The park is looking over the ottawa river and give great views at both sunrise and sunset. It is right in downtown ottawa near the Ottawa Sign and is great for walking your dogs, sitting in the summer sun or just enjoying the fall weather. I usually go here for sunrise, sunset or during the rain to capture some great views and admire the glorious and colorful skies. Hope it helps!

This is a nice park to visit anytime of the summer, especially during the tulip festival and during autumn. There is a lot of wide open space and even during busy weekends there is always space - though shade gets taken up quick. It can get a little soggy in the spring. There are terrific views of the Chateau Laurier, US Embassy, Notre Dame, and the Art museum.

  • Lauren MacIntyre

Super beautiful. Lots of green space and gardens. There’s a path that is right along the river as well. I’d recommend going during sunset because you have a view of parliament, the river, and the Québec side. You can also sit in the park and have a beautiful view of everything mentioned above as well! I’m definitely going to be frequenting that park!

One of my favourite parks in the city. My first husband proposed to me here, I failed a job interview for "The Haunted Walk" here AND I get to watch the Feux du grands lac leamy casino fireworks FOR FREE, EVERY NIGHT ITS ON The grass is so fluffy and soft, I just had to roll in it (even though Im allergic!) The no bathrooms is a real downer though

  • Kathryn Foss

An historic park in a central location downtown Ottawa. The park has views of the Rideau Canal Locks, the Ottawa River, parts of Parliament Hill, the US Embassy and the National Gallery. This is a great location during the summer while festivals are going on and a sought after place to watch fireworks. Lots of access point and parking nearby.

  • Michael Emeny

The kids loved the park. It's a lovely day to sit and have a picnic. The Cicadas are in full swing and the sun is teasing the air with warmth as we wander the path and head to govt buildings for fun!! Best 30 minute detour ever. Wife will be back for a nice date night. Already saw some places she would like. Awesome stop.

  • Rav

Beautiful park located next to the Parliament Hill. The grass is green and the flowers are fresh. The area has very clean, open & airy. Walks, bikes and picnics are best enjoyed during the summers. There are many festivals that take place at this park for example the tulip festival, jazz festival and many more.

  • Khushnaz K

Excellent park in downtown for taking a stroll or for a picnic lunch in summer. Photographers will love the views of the river and Parliament hill, as also the national art gallery and Notre Dame on the other side. Visit at the time of the tulip festival to see hundreds of them in bloom all over the park.

  • Dante Vignuzzi

Great park - plenty of Greenspace for outdoor activities and a decent amount of shade for a large volume of picnicking. However, if you hold a picnic here with multiple groups, be sure to specificy where exactly in the park you are, as some of the shade areas are in less visible nooks and crannies.

  • Alaleh - FoodyTO

The park is very peaceful and quiet. It is beautiful and has many different flowers. It also has a wonderful view of the Parliament Hill, Ottawa River and the Canal. It's nice to go for a walk/run along the river or go for a picnic and enjoy a laid back and relaxing time. It's a must-see in Ottawa.

  • Petre Diaz

This is one of my favourite parks in Ottawa. It is offers many spots for viewing great sites around the capital. The park has numerous monuments and points of interest. Over all there is plenty of sitting in the sun and other the shadow of a tree. Some corners of the park have flower arrangements.

A beautiful green area situated in the heart of the city. You can go for a walk, have a picnic, enjoy the sun, walk your dog or just sit there and do nothing, you will definitely enjoy the vibe. If you are good with camera and like to explore, then this is the place where you want to be in.

My favourite park in Ottawa. You get amazing view of the parliament and the river. It is close to everything. If you're visiting Ottawa you definitely want to add this to your go to list after parliament. I imagine it's probably hard to find parking around though.

Fabulous place and view of the Outaouais River . This is a great vantage point for watching fireworks also. The area is quite vast and is busy on special occasions with concerts or events. At the end of the park is the Chateau Laurier giving onto Wellington st.

The Park has a year-round-stunning appeal. It doesn’t matter the season you’re visiting, it’ll always amaze you. I suggest taking a stroll around the park until you reach the fence that overlooks the river and faces the Parliament. A worthy destination.
