The museum was amazing. The way it has been organized to show the advancement and evolution from the beginning till now, is exceptional. Visiting this museum doesn't just amaze the kids, it's thrilling to the adults as well, or exciting and engaging to all. Special mention to the voyage experience! The reason why I have 4/5 stars is for the lack of excitement factor in the space and science sections. After visiting the main museum you built in so much expectations towards the other two sections, but I m sure they will disappoint you. So spend the most time in the main museum section, I would say. Also at the reception, only the show timings of the planetarium was mentioned and not the shows in specific, this was misleading as we ended up watching a lesson on constellations instead of the movie on northern lights. Also, it's better for students to get their in-person tickets as they have a student offer which was not seen in the website.

A world-class, all-day museum experience is what awaits when you enter the Manitoba Museum. Having gotten passes to the gallery, planetarium, and main exhibitions, the family was able to spend the full day immersed in countless, detailed exhibits, activities, and shows that somehow made the six hours spent there pass by effortlessly. The exhibits themselves span the decades, as one will discover the contemporary styles of the 70's and 80's reflected in exhibits that required no revision over the years. While dated, a show at the planetarium is certainly worth 40 min of your time, and is presented with enthusiasm. Finally, coming to a full-replica of the vessel that made the HBC a reality - the Nonsuch - is experiencing the crown Jewel of the permanent exhibits found at the museum. Overall, if you're not planning on visiting the Museum while in Winnipeg, you're going to miss out.

It's an interesting museum, but I left feeling like a lot of the appeal is intended for kids. There are exhibits that teach you basic fundamental sciency things that you normally learn about in elementary school, like dinosaurs for example. That's not a negative if you're a parent, but for a no-childer like me, it made the museum less interesting. However, I did enjoy seeing the lifesize ship replica, as well as entering a tipi during my visit. And I definitely learned many new things about Manitoba that I didn't know before. Worth a visit at least once if you live in Winnipeg. I give it 5 stars out of appreciation for the free admission day they have once a month. I didn't have to pay to get in, so I can't complain.

The galleries are great and there were plenty of things for my kids to do there, including a scavenger hunt and fossil digging (went Saturday, August 12, 2023). We did, however, have trouble with the facilities. Firstly, the button to open the door wasn't working, making it difficult to enter with the stroller (and would be hard for people with disabilities). Secondly, the change table in the lobby bathroom was removed. We had to be taken all the way into the science gallery downstairs to use the change table. Thirdly, the change table in that washroom is DIRECTLY behind the door. We had to risk being hit by the door when people enter to use the table as we are in the way of it. This is pretty unsafe. I was really surprised about the poor facilities as the museum is filled with young children.

A great place to visit. I would rate this museum top 3 among the museums all over Canada: although the hemisphere in the front is not that attractive, although the main entrance is like a 50 years old apartment without been taking care for 40 years, although there is no cultural relics “ bought” around the world, although there are not a lot of actual fossils, I do see the ppls who designed and build this museum really spent time and effort creating this spotless exhibit: they fully utilized the limited space and resources, created every model most close to the original , from bison to rice, from cephalopods to armadillo. If we don’t have plan for other things, we could stay there for at least 4 hours.

It was the free ticket section on every Friday, I went there with my friend at 3p.m, but you have to wait until 4p.m for the free ticket or you should look for the fares at the desktop. *Indoor: It took me 2 hours of discovering around, but I've not finished my journey yet. It was really cool to walkthrough all of it at a time. However, you should not carry heavy luggage with you because they have no lockers in the museum. The staffs were also very nice. *Outdoor: Be aware of homeless because they might have impolite activities, but you may find a variety of artworks, graffities on the walls and statues.

The displays were interesting in historical context. I was surprised at the number of rock displays...I did geology so that was fun for me but I'm not sure how many tourists would like to see several examples of cephlapods in Rock. Love the indigenous elements though, they were the most interesting. The aurora show was nice except depending on where you sit the giant telescope in the middle blocks the screen... so you don't get to see the entire night sky. The science exhibit is mainly for kids/teens, which I guess is fair. All around it's a bit pricey for the experience as a tourist.

I have taken my children here since they could walk. Now we have had a membership for the last 5 years or so and my children still love to check out the exhibits and see if anything has changed. Their favorites are the dioramas, the Nonsuch and the town, especially the cinema and Amy Galbraith's. We always enjoy the planetarium shows, and for some reason the kids still enjoy the science gallery even though not much changes there in their time... On occasion the museum will open the bottom level of the Nonsuch for viewing, have live science shows, or even interactive booths in the main gallery. If you are visiting the prairies this stop is a must!

Just an overall great visit. From the helpful hostess as you enter giving you the run down on all the museum and aspects of the building entails; as there are 3 different attractions in one here plus the theater presentations, to the clerks who help you choose the appropriate package to purchase for your visit - it was well worth going. My son is 15, so finding something not related to a movie or gaming for the 2 of us to do together is a bit tricky. But this was a great venture for him and I to do together. The Ship Replica is AWESOME!!

One of the most amazing museums I've been to. I'm new to Canada and drive myself reading every placard about everything being exhibited. I can't believe they built part of the the museum around a full-size, sailing replica of a trading ship. If I have one complaint is that the museum is not laid out all that well (i.e. navigating through all the exhibit halls is difficult). A few areas have arrows to guide you. The entire museum needs those arrows and possibly better signage. But one trip and I learned more about Winnipeg/Manitoba/Canada and its history than I've learned the previous 62 years of my life. Awesome!

Everytime you go your going to see something new! Offering new shows and exhibits regularly so make the effort to go more often and you'll be truly surprised with the things you'll hear and what will catch your attentions. When you can try to go with different people let them show you what they love this is especially important with kids. The science zone is crazy fun for all ages! The planetarium also regularly changes the shows offered and while some are more educational there are some amazing ones that will definitely take you by surprise.

  • Janice Chau

Well-curated museum on the province's history/development. Mostly casts and dioramas in the natural history exhibits but there's real artifacts from more contemporary history. I spent about 90 minutes here. Admission did take a while for some reason. There were 4 families ahead of me and two payment desks, yet it was probably 15-20 minutes before I made it up to pay. Front desk staff were very friendly though.

Extensive! Incredible natural history with human history woven into its main gallery exhibit. A bit of a maze. The Nonsuch ship is the best part, totally! Kids science gallery is also larger than we thot. Amphitheatre show was okay. And we’d hoped to learn way way more about Winnipeg itself (shoulda skipped all the dinosaur and rocks stuff and dove more into the Wpg exhibit. Building is looking a bit dated but there’s a big renovation being fundraised for, so better come back in a few years!

  • Paul Turenne

I had not been to the museum since I was a wee lad but when my sister came in from Toronto for a visit, she suggested we go. We had such a wonderful time, we were both very impressed with the renovations and the layout of exhibits. Coming back after all these many years brought back such a flood of memories, especially the Nonsuch, the smell is still the same..... I love it. Keep up the great work. I'll be back soon.

The Manitoba Museum - Winnipeg, Manitoba - Well maintained museum with high quality detailed exhibits featured throughout. You get great value for the cost of admission. Exhibits in the main museum provide an extensive look at the Canadian Prairies and how Manitoba was built. There was plentiful parking and no line ups during the weekday we visited. We highly recommend the visit.

Visited the Planetarium for the Pink Floyd event and had a great time! Wish there was more alcohol choices instead of just beer and wine. And although I can appreciate that it was an all ages event, it was incredibly frustrating that we sat beside kids who munched on chips the entire time, crinkling their chip bags and moving about. Very distracting!!!

Super fun and educational place! Lots for children to discover and learn. Don’t forget to check out their science hall downstairs- it’s so amazing for kids! Laser Harp, infinity room, lift-yourself chair, acoustic tricks, river flow water table, just to name a few. Better check it out yourself - it’s absolutely worth the time and money. Oh yeah, and Nonsuch! 1650 ship replica inside the museum that you can actually get on, and see it all!

This is one of the most beautiful places i have visited in a long time!! The sculptures look so real, they did a great job placing them, History is important to human existence and this museum embodies it. There was an old ship that sailed from UK to Canada I could not get on it cos of time, but i will surely visit again to have that experience.. Just to mention, it was a sponsored trip by my kid’s school.

Fantastic exhibits. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. It's a Museum! They're awesome. Pretty much any well curated collection draws my interested, but I can compliment this one, as I had a great time. I've worked in geophysics, I like rocks and stuff... On a more serious note, it was very educational.

It’s absolutely amazing, and a nice place to spend the day with family. Lots of exhibits, from the dinosaurs display to the First Nation People Gallery, from learning about the ancient to modern history. The museum is large with pretty nice interiors and well-displayed artifacts. The staff also polite and helpful. One thing I would suggest is that they should increase the closing time.

  • Cecile Gratton

These musicians are excellent. You felt the music. Love it. Venue could have been better. Musty smell in planetarium and even though we purchased the most expensive tickets we could not see the musicians. My suggestion would be to have them projected on the ceiling or the wall. Thank you.

Haven't been in a while but I was very excited to see lots of new exhibits a little sad about how much the science gallery has changed but it still had fun things to do. The planetarium had a wonderful show on I'm not super into space travel and that sort of stuff other than star gazing but they keep it interesting and full of new information. Would definetly return soon

A beautiful illustration of the Manitoba metamorphosis from prehistoric times, through fur trade to modern times. All floors are #wheelchair accessible and detailed with appropriate information. I thought 2hrs was gonna be enough until the museum closed on me. Will make plans to revisit. And a point to note, all museums have paid parking. I missed this and had to pay $89

Great spot to take the family. Dinosaur, boats, rocks, mining, animals of the plains and the settling of Manitoba. The best though is the inside out exhibition. Amazing art and learning about animals and how they work. Didn't get to the planetarium but on the next time. I recommend for families. Good afternoon trip.

Great main exhibits but some are SOOOO dated and really need a facelift. Paint is peeling, fonts are from the 70s. They need so TLC. The content is worth seeing though. The special exhibits have always been amazing. I saw the animals inside out and the walking with dinosaurs Among others.
