"One of the best disc golf courses around"
This is a nice place to go herping, but it's a disc golf course here so be mindful of and always let golfers have the right of way. The local players are all very nice. There is a lot of garbage in the densely wooded areas that seems to be carried in by heavy rains. If it rains before your visit, be prepared for alot of mud. I've found many different reptiles and amphibians here, and the only venomous snake I've seen here is the Texas Coralsnake, although it's in range for Broadbanded copperheads, Western diamondback rattlesnakes, and Northern cottonmouths. The most commonly encountered snakes here are the Checkered Gartersnake and Western Ratsnakes. Other species I've seen here include the Texas Patch-nosed Snake, Plain-bellied Watersnake, Rough Earth Snake, Rough Greensnake, Bukksnake, Plains Threadsnake, Red-eared Slider, Common Snapping Turtle, Texas Spiny Lizard, Rose-bellied Lizard, Green Anole, Gulf Coast Toad, Western Narrow-mouthed Toad, Green Treefrog, and Western Slimy Salamander.
Excellent 18 hole disc golf course starting behind Long's Creek Elementary. Almost all of the course is "in the woods" with plenty of shade. Plays like a "figure 8" so you can easily play either 9 holes by starting and finishing close to the entrance. Course map at the beginning of the course. Take a picture of it! Nice small pavilion with 2 picnic tables under cover and 1 in the shade of the trees. Trash cans at many tee pads along the way and even some recycling bins next to some of them. For a smaller portion of the year, the local club will reverse the course so you play backwards. Tee boxes are near where the baskets would usually be and baskets near the boxes. It makes for a whole new course at the same place. Great for locals who can't really travel and play a lot. Pretty awesome. You can check the local Facebook pages to find out if it's regular or reversed at any time.
Went here for the second weekend this year and its an amazing disc golf park. An absolute gem in San Antonio. The community that frequents the park is very nice to newcomers, visitors, and newbies. The course is challenging and fun. It rewards you for playing the game well, but isn't so difficult that beginners can't have a good time. My wife played her first round of disc golf ever here and she had an amazing time. The park is beautiful. It could have just been a blighted area with an electrical easement. Instead its a beautiful park that is best experienced while playing a fun round of disc golf. Each Saturday we've visited the course we've been able to play a quick 18 then roll around for another 9 no problem. Enjoy this exceptional city park the next time you're looking for something to do with a beautiful day. Great job San Antonio!
Bryan McClain Park is located near the intersection of O'Connor Road and Knollcrest & is a great place to enjoy quality time with the family and friends outdoors. There is 1 pavilion and some bench tables nearby the entrance. Just remember there is no alcohol allowed & everything is first come, first serve. So plan to be there early if your making any picnicking plans. There is also a disc golf course that was added to the park. It consists of 18 holes, total par is 56, and the total length is 5,533 feet. Another cool thing to check out for free! This park was named in memory of Bryan McClain, a Madison High School graduate and Texas A&M University student who unfortunately died in an accident when the A&M bonfire stack collapsed in 1999.
One of the best disc golf courses around. 3 Things to Know: 1) Parking lot is shared with an elementary school - drive slowly and park at the far end of the lot. 2) This park is notoriously muddy after a good rain, and best avoided for a couple of days after a storm. 3) Sometimes, the course is set up in reverse, i.e., the first tee is near the usual placement of the 18th pin, and the first basket is near the usual 18th tee. Then, on to 17, 16, etc.
I've been coming to this place for about 12-13 years. I love this place so much, I used to come and play this course everyday after work. Even if I didn't have anyone to go with me, I would still play by myself. Now I have a family that comes out with me to play this course. The holes are fun, and the environment is great. I love the feeling of wandering through the wilderness. I've played other courses, but this one is by far my favorite.
What a large and beautiful disc golf course! We came out here a couple days after it had rained, and it was still a little muddy around, but still very playable. Plan to be here a whole day if you want to play the whole course, and check out the rules to see what rotation the field is being played. If you're not sure, ask one of the many nice folks that are there. Everyone was so friendly at this park!
We visited for the trails for my dog. Awesome disk golf course, nestled amongst the woods. There is a power line running through it that provided a great dog experience. Game trails are evident everywhere and your dog will enjoy all the smells. A friend recommended this park and he was on mark. I've never seen a better disk golf course. Enjoy San Antonio's best course, in my opinion.
The disc golf course is fun. A mix of interesting lines with multiple tees on some holes. Upkeep wasn't the best, and there's a good chance to lose a disc on an errant shot. I'd go back for sure, but it's not my first choice and I'd rather wait until I know for sure it's been mowed.
My favorite course in SA. It's set up so you can either do the front nine or the back nine easily from the parking lot. All 18 will probably take 2 to 3 hours, and its a fun challenging course. Definately wait a few days after rain though, unless you like mud.
Good disc golf course with nice elevation changes and multiple boxes to throw from. Does hold water for longer than normal after rains though, and the city does not seem to put any effort into keeping the brush maintained.
One of the most challenging and beautiful Disc Golf Parks/Courses in San Antonio! The group of local disc golfers that maintain McClain do an unbelievable job!! I look forward to playing this course any chance I get.
Great course with lots of trees. A lot more technical than other courses, but it could use better signage. FYI it's reversed right now, so you start on the 18th basket and work backwards.
I love seeing my Grand-babies have fun, in a clean park, plus in the years we have been visiting this place, the grass is always cut, trees trimmed, one of the best parks in S.A.
Great looking course, unfortunately I had to play it backwards. For my first time it was pretty confusing, but looks like a nice layout with good tee pads and signage
Great disc golf course, unless it recently rained. A couple times a year they reverse the course to mix things up. Lots of trees that keep the short holes challenges
Nice course with a mix of wooded and open. Challenging terrain. The course always seems to be kept up at least decently. Free to play just park at the school.
Course has had its bi annual move and it is now in its original layout. Grass was cut and other than a down tree near 3s tee pad, the course looks great.
The McClain Park disc golf course is a very technical course but offers some really fun terrain. Just keep in mind it stays fairly muddy after it rains.
Going back was so much fun! Even on one of the hottest days. Nice and shaded with open and technical shots, reminds me of my home courses back in Utah.
This review is of the disc golf course, which is beautiful. Heavily wooded and technical, so maybe rough for a beginner. Careful after a rain, though!
No bathrooms.. no water.disc golf course gets a 5..parking a hassle during school.. hard to find..herds on the weekendz..homeless camps..on both end
Beautiful park for disk golf. There is one or two areas where a stream is a bit difficult to retrieve your disk should it go in.
The course is currently in reverse. Start near the 10th tee and aim toward the # 18 tee pad. Basket in the gap on left side.
Beautiful park. Buckets were in reverse which threw us off and took up a lot of time trying to figure out the course.
Best disc golf around.. i come all the from new Braunfels just to play a good round... best little hidden gem
This is the best disc golf course in San Antonio. It goes deep into the woods with a wide variety of holes.
One of my favorite disc golf courses in San Antonio.....it was just switched back to running the right way
Good trail/discgolf park. Make sure you take a pic of the map in the beginning of the park if you are new.
Looking great, several fairways are tighter off the box with tree growth than in previous years.
Great disc golf course! Little muddy is an understatement.... if it rained it will be muddy.
One of the top 3 disc golf courses in the San Antonio area. A must play course.
Great disc golf course, one of best in town. And great walking trails thru out
Really nice disc golf course, but definitely void if it has recently rained.
Amazing for disk golfing …
Good place to play disk golf
