I am absolutely baffled by the negative reviews. I visited the farm with a friend on 22 May 2022 and we loved every minute. The entrance fee is astonishingly low. The place is beautifully maintained and you can clearly tell how much love and care has been put into every aspect of the farm. The animals look healthy, well looked after and have plenty of room to roam and graze. The farm abounds with trees and flowers. There are magnificent views and many delightful walking routes under the trees and through the fields. There are lovely places to sit or have a picnic. The restaurant offers delicious, healthy meals with produce grown on the farm. The restaurant staff were so lovely and friendly. They brightened up my day with their kindness and helpfulness. There is also a picturesque stream running through the farm, as well as a cycling route. The farm is an absolute gem and a beautiful oasis in Leeds. I would like to thank all the wonderful people who make it what it is. I would happily go back there every weekend.

I love this place. I really do. The animal you will see will always be different and sometimes you will see more than others (even pigs get stage fright) but whatever the flora and/or fauna on show you will be in no doubt the amount of love, effort and extremely hard work goes into keeping the farm up and running. It’s not just the animals, there are different trails (including a mini beast one), plants for sale, recycled bikes, holiday events for the kids, sculptures, a gift shop, allotments, and yummy café. Rain or shine it’s a nice adventure – my youngest son (9) and I got to stay out of the rain under a kiwi tree! The staff & Volunteers all work their socks off and are extremely friendly – and all this for just £3 adults and 50p children. It’s one of my favourite things to do with the kids in Leeds. Ever since I first went with school in reception – I’m 37 now.

I can understand the low reviews and can understand why people would be disappointed. Meanwood would definitely be better advertised as a nature/botanical walk rather than an animal farm in my opinion. The gardens and woodland were spectacular but there’s only a small variety of animals and most are in their own pastures that can only be viewed from afar. It’s well worth a visit if you enjoy peaceful nature walks but perhaps other farms might be more suitable for those visiting with children/those who are expecting something on the level of Hesketh/Goodall farm. I don’t think it deserves the low reviews as it’s still a gorgeous place to visit. Pros: cheap entry fee. lots of parking. friendly staff. wonderful gardens. well maintained environment. children’s playground. Cons: not an overwhelming amount of animals.

Best £5 I've spent for a farm! We all enjoyed it. Upon parking the kids are entertained straight away with large pigs then on the walk to reception there are donkeys and alpaca. £2 entry fee for adults and 50p children. 50p for bags of food in which we bought ☺️ Around the farm there is sheep which more than happily eat from your hands, goats, 2 cows, chickens. Lots of allotments which look lovely. Lots of nature walks, flowers, pathways with lots to look at. A small play area park which was enjoyed by my 10yr old and 4 yr old! Then there is a small barn with small pigs, birds, rabbits. I would recommend this farm to anyone! We particularly liked that the animals were in massive fields with plenty of room and that every area we were alone and it wasn't busy at all

Visited with my 4 year old and I was really surprised to find this place and impressed with what they are doing here. There was a group of people working here who had learning difficulties and I love that places like this exist to help them. There's a nice walk to go on to see various farm animals and plants and a little kids park too - my 4 year old was getting to the big side for this park. There's a cafe, which was busy - visited during school time on a Wednesday so I wasn't expecting a queue. At £2 for adults and 50p for kids this is a great place to pass a couple of hours - I took a picnic and there were a few tables to sit at. Might be a bit hard to get a table when it's a wkend, or school holidays

This is the most beautiful and amazing place to take your family. Compered to many other attractions the prices are unbelievably reasonable £2.00 adults, 50p Children. From the moment you arrive you are greeted by Donkeys and Alpacas, Pigs and goats. Take a walk around to see the plants scenery and other animals. You can bring a picnic or visit an onsite cafe. Then treat yourself to some homemade Jam, Pickles or home grown vegetables before heading home. My advice by the annual family pass for a family of 4 less than £30 and visit as many times as you want throughout the year! We've been taking our family here for years and they love it!

I have visited the farm on 29th of October 2021 with my 4year old who was very eager to see all the animals. After arriving there were few sheep and alpaca's , we then purchased the tickets, learned that there is no longer an option to feed the animals. We then went for a wonder and to my surprise there were barely any animals. Chickens and 5goats ant that's it! Map was showing there should be many sheep , cows, rabbits, Guinea pigs, chicks, but there were none! This was very disappointing for my little boy who ended up in tears. It's not very much a farm without any animals, this should be changed to a Meanewood valley gardens.

  • Julian Lemass

Whilst the 2 fields by the car park have sheep and Alpaca however once you go in and pay most fields are empty; there's a lonely goat, a few chickens, 3 guinea pigs and a poorly rabbit. The place looks generally run down and there's no point paying for entry to see a sad reminder of what the place used to have but no longer do. They have more old bikes in the small animal pens then they have animals! For a small farm trip it's better to go to goodalls farm on Tong road where entry is free if you just buy an ice cream. Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is not what it used to be and it's really not worth visiting as it is currently.

  • László Fanaczán

You guys can't be serious about your opening times 10-15 is ridiculous. I can't imagine you receive many visitors with this opening time, not to mention who would buy a ticket for walk in a garden. Many other botanical gardens across the UK are free to visit and has much better experience to offer. There are very few animals too see and those are free to watch which makes it even more questionable why would anyone pay for the ticket. Been here years ago and it was good to walk here after working hours with the family but the management managed to destroy this experience to everyone, job well done. Absolute disappointment.

  • Rose Sanger

An Amazing little farm with an entrance price of £2. Lots of cute little animals to see however very hard to navigate, at the entrance the attractions are signposted but not thought-out to keep you on the right route. Also saw the farm growing lots of vegetables would be nice if they had a small shop to sell any surplus in. (This may have been in the epicenter but it was closed so I didn't see it) Some trail guides to hire would have been nice eg a tree identification sheet or plants to take round with you. However, very enjoyable morning activity!

  • Elena Christopher

Sorry but I wouldn’t ever waste my time to go there again. Don’t take it personally please ( people who own the place) but the place is just saaaad. Is not even about the £2.5 , i wouldn’t go again if it was free. It looks more like a sad allotment place, with 2-3 animals thrown around n difficult to find ( some of them). I’d rather go to the park, better looked after. This looks like it’s just someone’s untidy big garden which they thought “ lets make some money off of it” . The coffe shop however has some niceee cakes lol . No hard feelings

  • Martin Bond

At first I felt "where are all the animals" but once we found the chickens and goats who living behind the main building and the small animals area there is plenty to see, you just need to do some exploring. Could do with more small animals, some sort of petting zoo or possibly just move some of the animals into the open barn as some people missed the cows and sheep as there were in the field at the far end. All that being said it is a lovely and quite place, nice cafe and only £2.50 so what's not to like!

  • Chloe West

I was really looking forward to a visit with my children yesterday. I just wish I had read the reviews beforehand. What a disappointment! There's hardly any animal's to see. There's piglets and alpacas on the way up to the admissions hut, but once I had paid the fee, the only other additional animal's we saw were a few goat and sheep. A couple of guinea-pigs and rabbits are kept near the cafe too. The children's playground was shut, due to a wasp nest. I will not be returning.

  • Karl Poulter

Took my little boy and his cousins here recently and whilst this is a nice little farm it isn't very big and doesn't have many animals. The farm I think is great for smaller children up to say 8 or 9 years old but children older than that may be better going somewhere like Temple Newsham farm or equivilant. There is a entry fee which is very reasonable, only a pound or two and you can buy bags of food to feed the sheep or goats which the kids really enjoyed.

  • Jennifer Struthers

Really lovely place to spend a few hours on a sunny day. Chill and peaceful. Not a huge amount of animals- unless I missed some? But the pigs, alpacas and sheep were nice to see. Lots of greenery around, including crops and flowers. Picnic bench area with the river was lovely to sit next to. £3 entry fee for adults which I think reasonable. Would have been nice to be able to buy some feed to hand feed the animals but it must not be permitted.

  • Anju Lavina

A lovely local undertaking with a walk that's easy for kids. You can spot cute farm animals, including some friendly alpacas. There's even a café with food options for grown ups and kiddies! They've made it so the walks are one way so you always feel safe while enjoying a peaceful day out. There are sanitiser stations everywhere as well. The fact that it's so close to the city is a huge plus! Entrance is only £2 for adults and 50p for kids.

  • Midlands 88

Went today first time. A mixed review. Positives- cheap entry fee. Peaceful, lots of greenery, excellent place for walks. Negatives- hardly any wildlife. Only animals available to see were sheeps/lamb, llamas, hamsters and a rabbit. No clear signs/maps to help you get around. To summarise, this place is great for a peaceful walk and explore nature but if your specifically coming to see a variety of wildlife then this is not the place.

  • JET2 CHECKIN

Further to my review... Yes I did pay my entrance fee 2.50 each. And picked up the paper map given to us from the holder on the front desk. So we proceeded left out of the hut as asked to the point where the cows and sheep should have been. I can assure you they are not there.. also the three pens you have in the small animals two were empty. Only one pen had two rabbits. The other shed bikes stored against them . It's a rip off!!

  • Facepaints 4u

This is a beautiful farm to go with all the family I went here on a family fun day as I was hired to do face painting, glitter tattoos and Festival glitter for the Easter event that they had this year. They always have loads of different events going on but apart from that the staff are really friendly the farm area is really nice and clean!I would definitely recommend going there for a nice day out with the children

  • Paul Vause

Lovely place to take the kids. Nice cafe with good reasonably priced food. Play area for kids is on a par with nearby parks. Its surprisingly large and you can wander around for a good couple of hours. It's a registered charity too so by visiting and paying the cheap entrance fee you can feel like your contributing to a worthy cause, or splash our and for £20 you get an annual family membership. Excellent value.

  • Ryan Shaw

Small but lovely urban farm. Can't complain about the size due to the location, it's what makes it unique! The staff were all lovely to talk with. They love the animals here and it shows. The coffee shop is incredible, I didn't try the food this time but grabbed a coffee to go and it was a great cup of coffee. The barista was very friendly too and happy to have a conversation. Overall a lovely visit!

  • Joanne Sankey

Unfortunately meanwoodmvalley farm.has suffered a decline in recent years. It has some great stuff about it, but if you're a parent looking for a place to take your child to see animals, you will be disappointed these days as there are not many about. However, the forest school that is run here is great, so are the allotments and the learning centre. If I could rate those separately they'd get 5/5.

  • mr anonymous

Wow . Atrocious. After driving up the drive you see three alpacas. So thinking yeah should be OK.WRONG!!! Paid the entrance fee. But at no point did they say.. there's no.other animals but for 2 rabbits in the small pet section. AND when I say no animals I mean sod all. No cows . No goats.. no pigs . nothing!!. I know its a cold part of the year but farmers have cows.and sheep in fields. AVOID!!!

  • zy Ling

Went there today. The property is not well kept. They should do more to preserve such a nice piece of land. Four stars because they had a barn with a lovely big pig and small little oiglets. And they were well cared. There is a nice small park for kids, quite hidden. Looks a bit like a jungle. And a lovely coffee bar with clean toilets. You can spend a couple of hours there with kids.

  • Sam Beck

Great way to spend a few hours. cheap and cheerful. If you don’t like farm animals there is not much to see I have only visited in the winter so I can’t say for what it is like in the summer. But not a lot of things going on other than the animals. I imagine in the summer there are more events that would make this place 5* great community project and you can buy cheap bikes!

  • Helen Connell

This is a great place for children and adults alike. Prices for entry are low and membership gives you unlimited access. There are sheep and cows which you can feed if you buy a bag of grass nuts when you pay to go in. The goats are there as well as other animals. There are great walks around the grounds and picnic tables too. Cyclists are encouraged to visit too.

  • Mark Whitaker

Our first visit to Meanwood Valley Farm, Pleasant and polite reception, supporting the local school with growing fresh veg/fruit ( Amazing) Difficult to walk around with a buggy or ill health which meant we only found chicken and goats ( alpaca’s x3 as you arrive) the weather was a bonus so the small price we paid was a bonus… sadly we won’t visit again

  • Trev Newsome

Farm in the middle of the city. That said, you could easily think you were in the countryside! Not too many animals to see. Lovely walks through the fields, where sheep and cows can be fed. Small animals area, next to a great cafe, serving a wide range of meals and snacks. All for only £2 an adult and 50p a child. Great value.

  • Mr M

Very clean farm with a cheap entrance fee and with 50 pence one can get huge bag of food to feed the goats and the sheep. Car parking is free but can get filled very quickly. There is not much to see but it is a very nice place to see chicken and few other small animals. Nice place for a walk and to take the kids and dogs.

  • Bruv Heath

Lovely lovely place! Recommend it for families and meet up with friends for coffee in the cafe (albeit slightly expensive) still very good. Well kept and there were volunteers working hard to help keep it going! Great community space and environment and great animals and plants which can be bought as well as fresh eggs!

  • Diane Wilson

Visited today with my friend and her two children on a booked visit to meet the animals. What a fabulous time we had. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and happily answered my friends little girls endless questions. Had lunch in the cafe which as usual didnt disappoint. We will be back..... cant wait!

  • Mel Ziemiecki

Wonderful place for the grandchildren, not overly expensive. Would definitely return in the warmer weather as there's lots of outdoor space for a pack up lunch, definitely worth a visit. The cafe is very nice, cappuccinos and food are good too. Space is in short supply. I would still definitely recommend . …

  • Bence Solymosi

Beautiful place, metaphorically and physically. It is a self sustaining farm 10 minutes from the city centre. They do a lot of education about domestic and wild flora and fauna, they do charitable things like selling refurbished bikes at a low price, the animals can be pet. It's a great experience for all ages!

  • Lauren Chong

Unfortunately there weren’t much farm animals to see despite having to pay admission fee; only saw some alpacas, donkeys, goats, Guinea pig and rabbits. Would have love to spend more time but there wasn’t much to see or do. This place needs better maintenance. Cafe did serve some good sourdough toasties though

  • Jacky Wainwright

Visited with family and found it a pleasant experience and felt safe with covid measures. We had a walk round the animals and had drinks and food at the cafe sitting outside all reasonably priced and well worth the cost. A lovely little space in the middle of an urban area.

  • Claire Joyce

Visited today with our little girl and wish I’d read the reviews first. It was just really disappointing - there are barely any animals to look at - it’s mostly empty fields and a few people planting. The whole place just felt run down and I wouldn’t bother going again.

  • David Israel

Lovely way to spend half a day with my six year old. Not many animals unfortunately (eg the small animals enclosure is two guinea-pigs and a rabbit) but the food is excellent (and the coffee more so), lovely nature walks and very affordable entrance (£3 for us both).

  • Beth Wilson (bethwils0n)

Wonderful place. With so many beautiful animals and plants/flowers to see and explore. I walk through the farm every day on my way to and from work and it is lovely in rain or sun. Also, a family friendly place and is easy to get around in a pram or for little legs

  • Colin Hemfrey

Astonishingly extensive urban farm given it's located fairly close to Leeds City centre. Plants are more evident than animals (quite a walk to see cows and sheep) and there seems to plenty of activity on site. Nice cafe and friendly staff, and very cheap!!

  • Peridot Hill

Love this place. Simple and fun for kids and they'll enjoy the small park and activities. Lovely to just potter if youre older. If walking the Meanwood Valley Trail it's also an ideal detour with a fabulous cafe serving good food and THE best coffee!

  • Natalie J Armitage

Great for the kids to come and get to know and feed the animals and learn about plants. I love the ethos of the urban farm and wish there were more similar projects in built up areas. The barn coffee shop is also amazing for a nice brew!!

  • David J Wrighton

Bearing in mind that this is an urban farm in Leeds itself and not out in the country, it’s a pleasant surprise when you drive up through a small housing estate and come across a fairly well screened car park !! There are a couple of

Was a flying visit second time I have been here and didn't arrive till 3 knowing it shut 1 hour later we had a fun time weather helped but overall it's limited and would probably struggle to stay for an afternoon without getting bored

  • Cait Jordan

I loved it here, i would go here everyday if it was a sanctuary and didn’t use the animals as livestock. Lovely staff and great meaning behind it! Would volunteer here if it was a Sanctuary once again. Cafe was nice. Not much option x

  • Deni

Really nice experience:) such a fresh air, pretty quiet and the food & drinks were super tasty. Food wise we had: ham & cheddar sourdough toast // loaded wedges, which were a bit oily but I was so hungry that I didn't care much …

  • Yvonne Donachie

Lovely farm, nice to see the animals, lovely for a walk too and the cafe food was great! Very helpful gentleman working at the gift shop/ticket part, we got a little lost trying to find some animals and he was very helpful drawing

  • Explore With Son & Me

For the entry price of £2.50 an adult it’s an ok little Sunday morning hours spent at a quiet little farm. We had quite a relaxing hour just wandering about, not loads to see, but it was the winter months we visited in.

  • Yanko

Great place to Walk and enjoy alone or with kids. It is big enough to have a big time walking or running. With a very beautiful exhibition of wood sculptures. And Rocks. There are plenty of play sections for Children.

  • Justin Charlesworth

Visited for an meeting as an external hirer, so the farm activities weren't happening. Looks like a place that has lot to do and engage a younger audience. I would need to visit again to gain a fuller understanding.

  • Julie Redwood

Lovely staff, great breakfast. Not much for little children to see (small animals just 2 guinea pigs) but we enjoyed the walk round to see the sheep, goats & hens. Great to have an open space in a built up area

  • Marjory Jager

Lovely to be able to see part of the farm world in the city. It's good for children to be able to see places like this when they may usually not be able to get out. It's also got a very friendly atmosphere.

  • Elia Franke

I was really surprised how cute this place is. The highlight for me were the sheep children on the back side of the main house. Really good place to go with anyone interested in animals or gardening.

  • Shab Hussain

Not worth it just tooooo boring nothing to see apart from few animals and plenty of plants an green field. The cost of entry is cheap and cheerful the place is kept clean, you get free onsite parking

  • adi tolley

Had a nice afternoon with my daughter. Is a couple of animals to see and look at. But pretty basic. Prices are reasonable for an entry fee. There is a cafe but never went in has I brought a picnic

  • Lila Owen

Café food was good. Animals looked after well and looked healthy. When i asked staff members questions on the animals and area, they responded nicely and all in all it was very fun and interesting

  • Mr Ripley

We had such a nice visit here. The animals seemed really happy just pottering about doing their thing, the staff were really helpful and the cafe was lush, with nice veggie/vegan options …

A busy community hub offering a bike workshop, vegetable box scheme, cafe, farm eggs, etc. etc. Lots of childrens' activities and things to see. Cafe does high quality coffee and food.

Nice place to take the kids. Interesting for them and animals to see. Look for the archimedes screw. We'll run and safe. Not too expensive. Get some fresh air.

I loved it not really a farm if that is what you are expecting. A few animals in fields but lovely for short walks or short cycling and the cafe was brilliant

  • Jack Denholm

Lovely little day out for children and adults alike! Feed the sheep, goats, cows and alpacas then see the big pig, rabbits, Guinea pigs, chickens and birds.

  • Andrew Vickers

Urban Farm just off Meanwood Road and close to the centre of Leeds. Amazing variety of things to look at and get involved with. Great café with cake...

  • Simon Kent

The farm was a lot smaller than what I was expecting with less animals. I’d imagine this must be a seasonal thing. Dogs on leads are welcome.

  • Stephen Marwood

My daughter loves it and the cafe food and drink is delicious. You couldn't really spend an entire day here, it's a nice few hour trip out.

  • Duncan

This is great, coupled with nice walks, meanwood valley trail and ridge, playparks and a few nearby drinking spots, it's a good choice.
