I made an appointment by phone for the pulmonary office at 110 Irving street, suite 3800. I was told someone cancelled and I could get the spot for today, otherwise the next available was in April. The receptionist in the office was very rude and unprofessional. No one greeted me. I came 40 minutes early for the appointment and told her the doctor and time. She asked my name, checked the system then gave me some paperwork. When I sat down to look at it, I realized it was not my information. So first of all, I was given someone else’s private information. When I told her it was not me , she asked for my ID. She looked in the system and then said i didn’t have any appointments. I asked if i could wait to see if someone came in for the time I was told and she said she couldn’t answer that question. First she said all their patients were coming in today. Then she said it was up to the doctor. She gave me an appointment for two days later with a different doctor. I said I would wait to see if the person came in. Then her and the other receptionist went to the back, presumably to talk about me. Two other patients came in, but not the one scheduled for my time slot, and no one was up front to assist. While I was waiting, I looked up the name of the doctor, which she only gave the last name, and discovered he was not even the type of specialist I needed. I asked her if the doctor was for pulmonary and then she says, “Oh, I thought you wanted an endocrinologist”. If she had asked she would not have made that error. She asked for the appointment card back and gave me an appointment for later in the month with a different doctor. After sitting there until the appointment time and no one coming in, I asked her whether she could check if the doctor would see me. She then said they give a 30 minute grace period. She also says it is not likely the doctor would see me after the 30 minute grace period because then it would be time to see his next patient. I left after that because it was obvious she didn’t want me to be seen by the doctor. I lost time from work to go to this appointment and then to be treated with such rude behavior, especially when I was not rude to her, is unacceptable from a professional office. Hopefully the hospital will provide customer service training for its employees so they will learn how to treat patients with respect.
First off let’s start this review off with my grandmother is 88 years old and is bedridden. She has been bedridden for the past 6 years. My grandmother also has been coming to Washington Hospital Center for years for her primary care. We needed to get some forms filled out for her for metro access and to get a handicap parking space in front of her residence. First of all I do not understand why she had to attend this appointment in person for the doctor to fill out what is already in her medical chart. There is no way all of a sudden my grandmother regained the strength to walk. It is like they needed proof of her being wheelchair bound even though she has been here before. Her appointment was at 3pm, we got her here early just to be on the safe side. It is now 5:10 pm and she is still in the doctors office waiting on the forms to be filled out. This is beyond ridiculous and I hate to say this but that office needs to fire every single one of its employees and rehire new staff that is patient focused. These people here do not care. You know how uncomfortable it has to be to sit in a wheelchair for over 3 hours just to get forms filled out!!!!!! Crazy!!!!!! I will never recommend this hospital to anyone for primary care. It is better for you to travel to Georgetown, George Washington or Sibley hospital to be seen.
The emergency room experience was extremely unpleasant; the nurses appeared indifferent and unhelpful, while the front desk staff and emergency personnel seemed incompetent and unwilling to assist. Wait times stretched up to eight hours before seeing a doctor, and the facility had an unpleasant urine odor. I strongly advise avoiding this hospital, as it stands out as one of the worst in the United States. Arriving at the emergency room at 7 PM with my uncle, who couldn’t walk due to a gout problem, we provided all necessary paperwork and current medications. The front desk staff was disrespectful, obnoxious, and rude. Despite numerous attempts, the nurses ignored our requests for updates on when we could see the doctor. It’s disheartening that in the greatest nation in the world, this hospital falls below the standard of even third-world facilities. It is right now 5:08 Am The doctors either seemed too busy or uncaring, with over 100 people waiting for medical attention. If you ever need emergency care, I strongly urge avoiding this hospital.
My mother was recently hospitalized for 13 days. She is immobile and has no bladder control after making the staff aware of this I still received many calls saying my mom wasn’t telling the nurses when she had to use the bathroom well that’s because she doesn’t know when she has to go. They would let her lay there in her urine. They never once bathed her or attempted to help brush her hair. For 13 days she laid there dirty and the nurses were so mean to her. She would call me crying because she had pooped and over an hour after she called them and told them they still hadn’t came in to clean her up. When I went to pick her up she had dried poop all over her bottom. The nurse gave me an attitude because I didn’t bring mom’s wheelchair from home. She said they don’t take them out. I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to my worst enemy! It’s dirty and the staff is very rude and disrespectful
I am a traveling heath care worker here at WHS for the past 7 weeks. It has been a very positive experience. I have met people who take out the trash, clean the rooms, transport patients, sterile processing, the lab, orientation, security officers, secretaries, Surgical techs, Nurses, nurse managers, Doctors and I will honestly say that everyone has been friendly, polite, helpful and welcomed me. I would absolutely recommend this hospital as a great place to work. It’s a big and busy location that will challenge you and that’s why I wanted to work here. I also enjoy getting out and enjoying all the historical sites that Washington D.C. has to offer. It is cherry blossom season and so much natural color and amazing photos to create. I am enjoying my decision to work here as a traveling surgical tech. Thank you WMS!
No words to describe the amazing doctors, nurses, nurse assistants, etc. Very helpful after I delivered my third baby at this hospital. I have gave birth three times at this hospital and I have no complaints regarding the medical attention, treatment, and the care I received there. Moreover, the nurses helped me take care of my daughter because she was colicky and during I was there I heard “we are here to help you, I’ll take care of her, I will give her a bath and you can take a rest and sleep. You need to rest, anything we can do for you, just let us know”. Thank you so much for the care, the attention and the humanity everyone had with me
My 5-star is for the service I received today at my appointment. I’ve had some horrible experiences in the past but today was really good. Nurse Claudette and Dr. Darko were absolutely amazing. They were friendly, kind, attentive, and compassionate. That is how I feel everyone in health care including the staff at the front desk should be. People visit the doctor’s office already with anxiety most times so they don’t want any bad encounters with the people that are there to care for them. Maybe these two should run a training camp on exceptional customer service. It was refreshing today.
It’s very astonishing to know that even with all the cases of Breast Cancer that we have some of most highly trained Specialists dealing as a team with these cases. It’s gives me the confidence to work with them in bettering my health, I’m no longer scared to face my dilemma, always ready to face it heads up. My awareness through my team of Doctors and Associates has been made so clear of how my treatment will progress I’m delighted in seeing the outcome. Thank you to Medstar for the hiring of such talented and caring Associates. Thanks to Dr. Kristen Whitaker and Dr. Marc Boisvert.
A special thank you to everyone at labor and delivery the entire hospital staff have been amazing especially my nurses Katherine, Crystal,Gabe and Maddie if I forget anyone names my apologies, the entire physician department who have assisted with my delivery and recovery a big thank you. Even though things take a rough turn after delivery you all have fought to ensure I went home to my family I can’t express how much I appreciate all your efforts. Continue being the best in patience lives.
Dr. Lai/Endocrine Surgeon is a very skilled surgeon, and approachable as a doctor. She exhibited a compassionate spirit from the time I met her. When she stated I needed surgery immediately, the team worked quickly to schedule the surgery. She explained the entire surgery and post-surgery process. Paused to allow me to ask questions and provided thorough responses. I definitely would recommend persons, if they have this issue.
