Now that I’m no longer pregnant I can hit up the cheese station with a vengeance once again. I know most people pay the fairly hefty prices for the unlimited seafood but I implore you don’t miss out on the delicious cheese! Loved the red velvet cake tonight too Latest I can’t go past the Indian station where you can order a fresh naan with your choice of inclusions. The cheese garlic naan coming hot out of the tandoor oven is a sight (and smell) for sore eyes. Dipped in the delicious ratia I am one happy girl. They even do dessert naans with m&ms but by the time I get to dessert, 7 or so plates later, my stomach sadly isn’t up for more bread Newest Whilst I don’t usually want to fill myself with pasta at a buffet tonight they were doing a creamy prawn pasta made to order and it was such utter perfection I went back for a second bowl. One of my absolute favourite restaurants for getting my glutton on Newer The noodle dishes available at the wok station tonight were super yummy. The smell of frying garlic was tantalising and the way the sweet soy caramelised in the wok was deliciousness unlike anything I can ever replicate at home. Mmmm New Usually my favourite is the live sushi/sashimi station but todays highlight was the grill as they were doing steak made to order with the yummiest bernaise. Whilst the live cooking stations don’t change they do mix up the dishes so you enjoy even more variety every time Recent Came to Melba’s for a work lunch which was lovely given you are paying between $85-95 per person depending on the day you dine. Due to the price point it’s probably more of a special occasion place but it's definitely worth it. On this visit I was obsessed with the chocolate pudding and raspberry chocolate mousse slice. It’s always a delicious time Latest We visited Melba’s last week for my dads birthday and I have a feeling the chefs have changed as we were really impressed on this occasion. The freshness of the sashimi and the deliciousness of the chocolate passionfruit cheesecake. The other desserts failed to delight which was disappointing for the price point and fell a little short relative to its previous gold standard but overall we were pretty happy Further update I have been coming to Melba’s regularly for over ten years. Our visit for my sisters birthday last week however was one of the more disappointing trips. Being around the Christmas period it was completely packed and they attempted to seat us at on a couch style set up. Given its a buffet two three seaters either side of a table is not exactly conducive to constantly getting up and down to replenish your plate. In my family this would mean the poor middle person would be climbing over people are ten minutes. They eventually put some other tables together and found as an alternate which was good. What was not so good was the food. The prawn dumplings were so super stuck together that when I tried to seperate them as I served myself they all fell apart. All of us agreed the food variety wasn’t as impressive as usual Update My dining experience on Wednesday night proved the one critique I had last time has been rectified. In the past the desserts have been visually stunning but lacking in taste. This week we had an exceptionally delicious chocolate and passionfruit eclair and mini lemon meringue pies just to name a few which were super yummy. Well done all for lifting the already superlative standards Original review I've probably been here 20 plus times in the last ten or so years. It's pretty much the scene of every family birthday and it never disappoints. It's fairly standard to feel physically unwell for several hours afterward if you chose to dine buffet and have minimal self control like me. Not sure why anyone would actually go here and prefer a la carte as the variety is ridiculous. My only criticism is the desserts leave a little to be desired. This is the one area I have seen deteriorate over the years but they do have a Cadbury chocolate fountain and connoisseur ice cream

I had a 6 night stay at the Langham hotel, which is where this restaurant is located. I would rate the breakfast buffet that was packaged with my hotel stay about 4.5 stars. The food was decent and the service was acceptable for the price. I ate here every morning. This negative review is primarily for their overall dinner buffet experience. The dinner experience here was appalling for this type of establishment. At about AU$100 per person at a "5-star" hotel, service was horrendous. I would rate their service as 2 stars (0 for table service, 4 for the food staff) out of 5 stars. Our server never checked up on us a single time for the hour and 20 minutes we were seated. She would come by to pick up our used plates at the beginning of our stay while we were away from our table, but completely stopped after 2 passes. For at least 20 minutes, we had 3 plates and 1 bowl at our small table. I had to stack my wife's used plates onto mines so she can have dessert. Our server would walk slowly to two tables that were next to us, but would never check up on us or another nearby table. All diners would need to grab her attention for service. I hope that all staff was training appropriately and our server will need to be retrained so other diners would not have to be as upset as I was. The on-duty supervisor and highest ranking staff member on the night of service offered a 20% discount off our bill. I declined as my complaint was about the horrible service and not the food. It would be unfair that I ate my fair share and not pay the appropriate amount. I would instead liked to have heard that they will be retraining our server. As for the food, it was good. They had an above-average selection of sushi items such as abalone, uni, salmon, tuna, etc. The hot buffet area was clean and serving area staff was very attentive in refilling the food and assisting patrons when needed. There was also a full-serve Asian stir fry and pasta line that also served sirloin steak. The quality of their desserts were below average. Overall food quality was decent at about 3.5 stars when factoring in the price. Please be aware that I am trying to be as objective as possible. I typically only write positive reviews as many people only write reviews when treated unfairly or had a bad experience. I will be one of those negative reviewers for this post as I felt this experience was unacceptable. This is my first negative review ever. Do not dine here for a 5-star table service experience, but embrace the view and the food.

Food was great this time, more variety, more flavour compare to last visit. However the service received weren’t great at all, the waiter and waitress were good and I can tell they’re doing their best, the problem is with one of the Asian man at the front desk, he seems to be the manager or at least, a senior. Unfriendly vibe, I caught a waiter speaking to him about our table as we have a pretty large group 20+, he turned around and looked at us with a unpleasant facial expression, several times I caught him walking pass our table, talked to the waiter while pointing at us as well. Also when we tried to speak to him he kept cutting us off by over talking. Also, it was just pass 7:30, I reckon about 7:35pm, they have already started mopping the floor and it was quite wet. Mind you there were also other customers sitting in the restaurant still who haven’t left yet. while we were leaving, one of our children slipped and hit her head, the Asian man looked annoyed even though he apologised, when I said unfriendly, this was his words : we are very sorry about this but I wish you……enjoy the rest of the night. Then proceed to tell our other kids off just by sitting next to the fountain which there were also other people sitting on it. Would not come back at all, very entitled and unfriendly. It was never like this, perhaps higher management should have a look into who they position in the management ?

Melba has always been my favourite buffet in Melbourne. It's always fresh, plentiful and varied. They label things well and there's truely something for everyone. They do great Indian food, great sushi, beautiful pastas and salads and fish and the most delicious desserts. It's pricey, but I think there's definite value here. The staff are always friendly and helpful and it's a perfect spot if you have a special occasion or just a treat for a change for lunch or dinner. HOWEVER ... that being said. We just came here again for the first time in a while for a very special occasion. We made the booking for 8 people. When we booked over the phone, they didn't once say that since we are coming for lunch and having guests, the best thing to do would be valet park with the hotel for a flat rate of $19. No. They didn't tell us that. Instead, we paid $75 - yes $75 - for just over three hours of parking with Wilson. It is daylight robbery and should be regulated. The hotel lost that business by not disclosing it to us, and instead our money went to Wilsons. But the thing is, when they know you're hosting guests, the least they can do is verbalise that on the phone with you at the time. Otherwise, the day went smoothly (other than the idiot waiter who told us our table was the one "over there with all the big balloons" on it after we urged him to keep it subtle as the guest of honour was with us as a surprise ...), and I recommend the lunch here for sure. Just be sure to NOT park downstairs unless you valet.

Came here on a Monday night dinner. I had the buffet while my partner who is celiac ordered from the ala carte menu as the buffet reasonably could make no guarantees about cross-contamination. Her roast lamb came out dry and lukewarm and had to be remade, and the gluten free bread was supermarket quality. Ala carte service was very slow. The portions were however very generous. As far as the buffet, a mixed bag. - Indian had fresh naan made right for you which was delightful. The curries were rather bland but the chutneys were excellent. - sashimi was sliced very inconsistently and unpleasantly thick and chewy - pork belly was perfect - other roasts were average if sightly dry - dim sum was excellent - oysters were well sized and pleasant - both the prawns and the lobster were overcooked to the point of being chalky - cheese and salad bar was competent as would be expected - dessert selection was excellent and the quality was surprisingly high The final frustration was the restaurant's blanket refusal to bag up the remainder of my partner's enormous ala carte (not buffet) dish for alleged "food safety" concerns, which is ridiculous given that this is absolutely standard literally anywhere. Overall, the experience and selection was nice, but for the price, I could not recommend it. The food quality is in no way commiserate with the price.

Staff were all very warm and welcoming, they even organised a small cake as I booked for my partner's birthday and it was amazing! Food staff were incredibly friendly and enjoyed a chat about the different foods they were offering and making suggestions based on our preferences. Unfortunately the roast meats and veg we're barely warm which was a let down, the stir-fry and grill section was great with the food made to order fresh and full of flavour, we would definitely go back but not so regularly due to price. Definitely more worthwhile a visit if you enjoy seafood as there was no shortage of prawns, oysters, etc, but if seafood isn't your thing there are other venues to spend less than $115 per person + drinks that'd be better suited.

4 1/2 stars, I haven't been here for years as I've not been able to find much value or satisfaction from buffets as I get older, not much for a lack of appetite but just eating far less and suffering multitudes of food intolerances and of course getting my money's worth, which isn't really an issue but it's not cheap considering I don't really eat seafood. I was here on a Monday night as I was invited for a family birthday dinner. I did not eat much but everything I chose was actually quite nice and very well done and fresh. The highlight was the roast beef and jus, I only had one piece, but it was melt in the mouth, I accompanied this with a green salad and some butter chicken and basmati rice which was good. They had a hot pot buffet, a boba tea buffet which was quite good. The desserts were pretty average but topped up quickly, we had ordered a bottle of white but the service for that was a little odd, the bottle was poured and finished off in 4 wine glasses, generally the wine is poured 1/4-1/3 up but it was poured to half the glass. Maybe i was asking for too much or used to sommelier style pourage but one of our group could not finish the wine. all up it was good staff were lovely and said goodbye to us warmly as we left. I think it may have been my favourite trip to Langham to date.

We dined in order to celebrate my mothers birthday and to say it was an exceptional experience would be an understatement! An inviting ambience combined with first class service by our waiter Sam made the day very special. The food was fresh, high quality ingredients, cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. The chefs ensured that every offering was truly delicious. The final touch was a complimentary celebratory cake for my mother which was very generous and a sweet touch to what had been an already amazing afternoon. I highly recommend Melba for every occasion. Thank you to the whole Melba team for such a wonderful experience!

Melba Restaurant is absolutely aaaaaawsome!!!!! Heads up though, it is priced over $120 per person (drinks not included), and prices vary time on time of day/or night you go on which weekday you chose. The Roast selection is of your choice of meats, there is an Asian, Italian, and Indian work station were chefs will cook your meals on the spot, fresh noodles, stir fries, fresh pastas, and steaks/chops, curries, love thier nann bread they make on the spot. There a section of seafoods, antipasto and salad bar. The desserts are great too. We have been coming here for years and it's never failed. The staff are very attentive, and friendly. We went for dinner as celebration for our son birthday , he chose to go there as special dinner and ate their steaks most of the night. (With no salad of course!!). Worth the visit for any occasional. Pre warning though DON'T EAT NOTHING ALL DAY!!! Then pace your self when there. Enjoy!!!! We love Melba!

Loved the food, the view, and the service, and would have given this place five stars otherwise, but there are no disabled toilets in this restaurant, or at least, none that restaurant users knew of or were guided to by staff. No accessible stall, and the hallways leading to the bathrooms are barely wide enough to fit a chair.

Wheelchair accessibility
Dining areas are more or less accessible, but the restaurant bathrooms are inaccessible. Narrow corridor with sharp turns and doors that cannot be opened if you are in a wheelchair by yourself. No wheelchair-accessible stall - once you transfer yourself out of your chair, you cannot close the stall door (and you can barely fit your chair in the stall in the first place, even able-bodied people struggle with how small these stalls are). You will have to relieve yourself with the stall door open. Highly recommend leaving the restaurant to find an accessible bathroom somewhere else in the hotel, but having to recommend this is extremely disappointing for such a nice restaurant.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT! I come here every year especially on my birthday and other special occasion. My most favourite is the Indian section where they make the Roti in front of you. It's warm, delicious and personalised! All the cuisines taste authentic which I love. I love interactive cooking and they don't disappoint. The chefs can cook your pasta, noodles or steak in front of you and to your liking! The seafood is always fresh and all the other dishes are topnotch. I took my parents with us for my birthday in August and they loved the baked lobster tail. Staff are wonderful, welcoming and professional. They have a way of making you feel special and luxurious. The ambience and view is spectacular, overlooking the Yarra River. They also give the nice touch of a small birthday cake and candle that makes me feel so special. I have been coming to Melba for over 10 years and counting. It has been my ritual to dine at Melba on my birthday for years now and next year won't be any different.

The location, service, and dining experience is 5 star. However the food is 4star. Its a little over rated. Especially when you are paying $150 pp. Smoked salmon- beautiful Unagi- Very nice Salmon Sashimi- not as fresh as some other 5star japanese restaurants Oysters- Very Fresh Prawns- A little over cooked and chewy Sashimi platter- very nice, good presentation Lobster tails- a little dry, (not as fresh as you would want) Duck Pancakes- hardly any duck meat inside Dessert- they didnt replace the vanilla ice cream for ages apple tart was frozen inside pudding- beautiful rasberry + berries mix- so yummy Hot food (great selection and variety of indian, itallian, chinese, cuisine but couldnt fit any more in my stomach after eating all the seafood) All in all- its a beautiful fine dining experience for adults and date night! Wouldn't go there (all the time) There are other fine dining restaurants in melbourne that have a higher quality seafood buffet for sure.

This buffet has been a long-time favorite of ours in Melbourne. However, our recent visit left us slightly disappointed with the food quality. We arrived at 6 pm on a weeknight and were promptly seated, but we noticed that some items at the hot food station weren't adequately heated, and a few dishes were overcooked. The cold seafood station's freshness was inconsistent; while oysters and sashimi were generally fresh, the prawns were somewhat fishy and overcooked. The desserts also did not appear to be freshly made. We thought several cakes in the fridge were either stale or hard (see video) On the positive side, the service from the waitstaff was exceptional. However, some of the chefs appeared a bit grumpy, which slightly impacted our overall experience. As a suggestion for improvement, we hope the restaurant considers bringing back dedicated lobster nights rather than random rotations.

This is one of my favourite buffet dinner restaurants in Melbourne. The prices may be expensive but this is in a renown hotel and the food is of the best quality. If you like seafood, then this is the place to go and have as much lobster, oyster, tiger prawns, muscles, salmon, but I would recommend eating on an empty stomach to get your money’s worth. If you are not a seafood fan, they have beef, pork and chicken dishes, as well as Asian and Indian varieties. They also have good quality vegetarian options and their desserts are fabulous. Their salad bar also has a wide variety of salads and are always fresh. I would recommend this if you are looking for something different or special. The seating is also well designed and a view of the river would be an ideal place for sitting - enjoying the views and the buffet at the same time.

Old school classy experience, went with a group, wasn't too bad. Sashimi: Tuna/kingfish/salmon was not too bad, quality was fairly average. Frozen but fresh. Eel was really nice, that in a roll was soo good. Unlimited lobster tails for you lobster lovers, it was really hit and miss. Was a little too dry I think. Oysters were fairly fresh, Heaps of dishes and desserts, Roast lamb was pretty good, pork was crunchy and peaking duck was not too bad. Overall service was great. Would I go again... if it was a invitation 100% but I wouldn't go out of my way to spend that kind of $$$. Prefer cheap eats.

We both celebrated our wedding anniversary there on the 4th of October 2023. We were welcomed by lovely staffs and the ambiance was amazing. We enjoyed the food and drinks. We wanted to thank the Manager Mr. Danny, and his staffs Mr. Daz, Mr. Will, Mr. Justin, another Indonesian staff that we forgot to get his name. He made us a beautiful authentic Malaysian Char Kuey Teow. The whole experience was wonderful and it really made our day that night. We’ll be back again. Well done Melba Langham.

Situated within the Langham Hotel on Southgate, the Melba is a beautifully presented restaurant with great views. Visited for lunch on a Wednesday before Christmas and the place was full. It is a buffet with lots of food choices to suit all food preferences. I started at the seafood station with some prawns, muscles and squid. Second course for me was roast pork belly, Turkey and ham but not a great choice of roast vegetables or gravy. I then sampled a few dessert options (creme brulee was delicious) before finishing with the cheese. My only complaint with the cheese was that they didn't provide the names of each cheese, rather opting for 'chedder' and 'blue cheese', could do better in my opinion. I can't comment on value for money as I was a guest and don't know how much it cost, but it was a very pleasant lunch.

The food was soso, [typical buffet] and the POS system they are using is making it very difficult for international credit cards to be processed as it asks for a PIN code that a lot of people do not register for on a credit card (internationally speaking). Reason for that being the payment request is being processed as advance cash loan instead of an actual “credit transaction”. It’s literally the first time I’m being asked for a PIN to process a credit card transaction in many countries I’ve been. Ended up having to make international calls to my banks, and still ended up finalizing the transaction via a savings account VISA from overseas account with extremely high bank charges. Being in the hotel business dealing with international travelers, it’s very unfriendly. I happen to be in the POS business, and I know for a fact that there are plenty of up to date POS systems and payment systems out there that can easily fix the problem.

Decided to take my friend out for her birthday and was quickly disappointed. Arrived at 7pm for our dinner booking and we were seated along the window, however we were crammed between two other couples with just enough room to squeeze past. As for the food the selection is about a third of what Crown Conservatory has to offer. The roasted chicken was bland and very dry , the mussels smelt as if they had been sitting there for days and the prawns were rock solid. As for the desserts, very few to choose from. The mini strawberry cheesecake tasted like artificial chemicals and the crème brûlée was swimming in a pool of condensation. The staff seemed unhappy about their jobs and not one had a smile on their face. Overall I would not recommend this and would rather go to Crown conservatory.

We came on a Monday, not that many people, so we got a pretty good seat. $129 per person, not too bad given the good location looking over the river. Food is ok, the sashimi cut is a bit too thick. The sushi is made on the spot at your request, this is nice, except there is only one person working the sushi bar, I didn’t ask for sushi because it’d probably take too long and there is quite a line behind me. I had two pieces of lobster tails, the first one is firm and succulent, the second one is not fresh and messy. The roast, fried noodles and Indian cuisine are surprising tasty, but I am very disappointed with desserts, none from the dessert section I would recommend, very limited ice cream and fruit options. Overall, a decent place, excellent location and good service, but a bit more work would be done on the Peking duck, sashimi/sushi bar and desserts. 5 star for place and service, 3 for the food.

  • Natasha Azmi

Maybe because I had high expectations coming here, I was slightly disappointed with the food options and the quality. You can get sashimi and sushi from the sushi station which was nice but I found that the sushi rice falls apart when picked up and the salmon cuts weren't great. Kingfish sashimi were fresh though. The best thing so far was the made-to-order cheese naan with butter chicken. It was great and the goat curry too was surprisingly delicious! One thing I was not happy about was the Asian section with the made-to-order char kuey teow. The char kuey teow was not fried well as it was wet and the chef added too much sweet soy sauce (or could be oyster sauce). It was not edible and too sweet.

My partner took me to Melba on 2nd January to “start the year on the right foot”. Having been to buffets in Las Vegas makes one very fussy, but Melba did measure to its reputation. The service was good, but our waiter did say that him and his colleagues had a very long night at work on NYE and I could tell they were all very tired. There’s a really good choice and almost everything is great! My personal favourite was the Sushi/Sashimi Station - I could’ve happily just eaten that all night. Least favourite - the Indian station. The tandoori chicken and salmon I got were both very dry and inedible. I got some goat curry, which was delicious. My partner got half a lobster and, again, that was exceptionally dry. Again, I feel that that’s due to the staff being overtired. We paid $250 + tip for the two of us, which included one glass of rosé and a rum & coke.

Best view buffet! Siting besides the rivers, looking outside of the window with full of trees and greens…. Fresh sashimi, seafoods - oyster, crab, prawn, roasted pork, beef, Beijing duck roll, hot pot bar, fresh cooking bar, salad bar, so many to choose, also have variety of cakes and chocolate bar! Warm and smiling customer services! Complimentary coffee or tea! Great place to catch up or have family event! 5 ⭐️. Highly recommend. We selected weekday lunch, not so many people and plenty food, price is much cheaper than weekend! Booking is essential!

Great quality food in the best location overlooking the Yarra River! Dined in on a Sunday buffet lunch and was very impressed. Lots of different cuisines, meats, seafood, veges, side dishes and sauces. They even make naan bread for you on the spot! 100% will be going back especially for those lobster tails and buttered caper sauce.

Not worth the price, never again. For a well established hotel restaurant, Melba lacks the luxury dining experience one would expect at The Langham. Spread was subpar and not well presented. Food was scantily topped up, disappointing that there was no lobster on the day we visited when we were told on the phone it’s on the menu. Seafood was not fresh, desserts were dry, saw a chef picking food on display, and eating it behind the counter. No bowls provided for seafood shells. For $160 a head, no drink and parking included. Save your money and go down the road to Conservatory at Crown - slightly lower in price, value for money, classy and great service. Includes parking and a welcome drink too. Sad to say, it was an average place to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

My buffet lunch at Melba restaurant was exquisite and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was my first time visiting Melba and the wide range of seafood and desserts along with many other food from across Australia made my experience ever so satisfactory. The freshness of the seafood was beyond my expectations. The sashimi just melted in my mouth, and the soup with a subtle hint of truffle tasted utterly delicious! The tiramisu and creme brulee were my absolute favourites. To top it off, a big thank you to the cheerful and attentive lady who served our table. (sorry I didn’t get your name). Your genuine attitude to make sure we’re well taken care of and your sincere birthday wish to my husband really made our visit so memorable. Thank you

We stayed at the Langham, while we were there we decided to try the buffet for dinner on a Saturday night. Staff were all wonderful, the food on the other hand was a sad disappointment! Fresh seafood, was good, except for the crab, they were so tiny, it was not worth the effort to try and get into shell. The cooked to order dishes were good, but all the dishes that sat in the warmers ie. Roasts, fish, curries, were just dry and horrible. The red wine jus was more a tasteless coagulated mess, more reminiscent of wallpaper paste than a jus. We have dined at a lot of good restaurants in Melbourne for less money. We were tossing up on getting burgers that night, I wish we had. Breakfast buffet is awesome, just don't go there for dinner.

After looking at the recent reviews of the covid safe style buffet, I was a bit worried when I booked my pre-Xmas eve dinner buffet. Turns out it's a nice surprise, not only the food is as delicious as always, but the covid safe plan makes us feel comfortable to dine in. Enough social distancing between tables, limited number of customers in the buffet hall, each station has chef served you and customers would not need to get close to the food but can still look and choose what they want. Needless to say, the waiters' service level is top-notched, from arranging the best window seating to frequent change of plates, refilling beverages, sanitized wipes. Everything is just perfect. Last but not least, even the in-room dining is superb and at reasonable price.

  • Nathan

We were a big group that had booked MONTHS in advance and yet we got sat right next to the service station where the cutlery and misc stuff is stored. Not trying to be picky but when you're spending about $2000 for a table you expect good seating at least. The food is amazing, as to be expected when you're paying $160/head plus drinks. However no aspect of the food, service or atmosphere is any better than other more affordable ($90/pp) buffets that I have been to. Which is why it's 4 stars not 5. It would be 5 stars for a lesser price but I think this inflated price is for inflation sake and not any actual value.

Food and alcohol service amazing even having the surprise birthday cupcake was a good extra only down fall when having dessert had to wave down 2 staff members to get a coffee order. The staff were more interested in talking to a another staff member dinning across from us. The cheese station was not great as it the Brie and other soft cheese was sitting out for to long and was unable to eat when I got up to dessert course

Beautiful venue with lovely staff. Food wise everything was just ok. Sashimi were of good quality, oysters were not as creamy/fresh as other competing buffets. Good amount of roast meats to choose from, our favourite was the ham. Peking duck pancakes were rolled and placed in the warmer - not good as the cucumber became warm and too watery. Indian section had fresh naan made to order! Highlight was the noodle section where we could pick the ingredients and have the chef cook it in the wok for us. We don’t recommend this buffet for family’s with young children as there aren’t any of the usual options for kids like pizzas/chips/nuggets ect.

First impressions count. There was no front of house staff at the desk when I arrived today so I waited in the area. I was left standing for quite a while as one staff member walked within inches of me, looked through me to a group behind me and showed them to their table, next he showed a couple to their table. A staff member had appeared at desk but was on a tablet device. When I eventually became visible it was a do you have a booking. Seated at a wrong table, no problem things happen and as the FOH staff member said "my bad". This is The Langham, I was surprised by this welcome. FOH let the Melba down as the wait staff are excellent and food is top notch.

Incredible experience for NYE18. We attended the Pre-Theatre Dinner as part of a package at the Langham, and couldn't have been happier. The food was absolutely delicious (only wish I had a second stomach!) and service exceptional. Highly recommended experience for anyone looking to spoil themselves. Breakfast the next morning was also excellent, but there was quite a long line to actually get a table when we arrived at 10am. That said, we stayed at the Langham and did have a note in our room suggesting we head to breakfast before 8:30am to avoid a queue. The fresh fruit juice bar was a highlight of breakfast, as well as the fresh honeycomb!! Thank you Melba, for a wonderful two day dining experience.

  • Just Andy

Great decor but the food was mediocre. The only foods I enjoyed were from the Indian section which was the naan and tandoori chicken. The rest were much worse than what you would get from an average restaurant. Service was slow and I had to constantly ask for more water to the point where I told them to give me my own jug. The grilled beef steak (I got medium) was extremely chewy and I barely got through it. The only good food here was the Indian cuisine and you are better off going to a good indian restaurant than coming here.

First time set on my feet at Melba restaurant, I felt a warm ambience as well as warm greetings from the staff. I had reserved by the window seat for three, where I can see Yarra River and Southbank. The dining area is not big, compare to Conservatory restaurant in Crown. However, this is closer to the buffet station. I really enjoyed my lunch buffet experience here especially the grilled and seafood selection. Last but not least, we could take as many beautiful shots as we want in the iconic Langham hotel. Don't forget to check the pink phone box in the lobby as well as the pink cab in front of the entrance.

Overall a pleasant buffet experience. The sashimi/sushi bar and cold dishes were my favourite. Everything was good. The hot food section was a hit and miss depending on what you get. The dessert section is a definite hit as everything was quite nice and pretty too. The buffet experience is lovely with attentive staff and great service. Would recommend if you're looking for a nicer buffet option than some others.

Dined on 2 Dec 21 for work group of 24 people for Christmas lunch. Everything was amazing. It's hard not want to try everything. There's an amazing selection of seafood, sashimi, cured meats, antipasto items, salads, cheeses, roast meats, vegetables, curries and condiments. The dessert selection will have you wishing you started there, most items are bite sized but big enough to share with another person so you can try a bit of each. And there's a chocolate fountain, icecream and lollies too. We sat over a 3 hour period and ate way too much but it was really enjoyable. Pretty certain well be back next year. Service by Tao was fantastic as well.

  • K.V Speedy

Underwhelming, especially for the price you'd want the food to be stand out. The sushi staff seemed like they couldn't care less and did not talk at all. Eventually another chef came and made the food. Food wasn't refilled very often, had to ask for more ice cream/cold meats and cheese. The wait staff were inattentive, only offering 1 round of drinks before taking the drink menu away and not coming back to refill. $155pp for food, drinks $7 for basics and more for alcoholic.

I can’t recommend more highly. Absolutely nothing beats The Langham for a buffet. The food is exceptional quality and the staff extremely kind and accommodating. A previous post commented on the front desk staff and we did not have this problem. They were kind and attentive and very sweet to our 2 young diners. They are definitely under staffed, but that’s not their fault and they try very hard to accommodate everyone’s needs. The valet parking attendant on the day was amazing! So personable and made the kids laugh. A perfect day!

This place is quite pricey so expectations would naturally be high. Service was very good as was the overall selection with lots of seafood on offer. However, the texture of the blue swimmer crab was mushy, indicating a lack of freshness whilst crayfish was overcooked. The 5 spicd duck also lacked the crispy skin from being left in the steamer to keep warm rather than being sliced on request..This was disappointing given the cost of the overall meal. On the plus side, the sashimi was enjoyable as were the desserts but overall it did not met expectations on the day.

5/5 for the pork crackling belly, char kway teow, duck wrap, beef steak, indian food, desserts 3.5/5 for the lobster that was overcooked 5/5 for the service and ambience Unlimited strong coffee and tea Wide variety of cheese platter, salads and desserts I loved the desserts as i like sweets so consider that. On a Tuesday night, my partner and I visited this place to celebrate our anniversary. The buffet cost us $110 per person. Unfortunately, the price we paid didn't quite match the variety of food on offer. The buffet comprised a seafood, small pasta, Asian, and Indian counter. The saving grace of the evening was the excellent cab sav wine. While the overall experience was not exceptional, the wine managed to add a positive note to the evening.

We wanted to do something special for my partner's birthday – We went for dinner and chose the 2nd seating on Saturday night (8.30 pm – 10 pm). Service was amazing (10/10) Live station foods were amazing (Chinese, pasta & Indian naan – I must say the naan has to be the best naan I have ever had), but other foods were very mediocre, nothing special. They only had 2 mocktail options, ambience was nice, but the furniture looked worn – I am sure the furniture looked great in early 2000 but not anymore.

  • Enka An

Had my birthday lunch buffet here and loved all my food. The wait staff were super friendly and welcoming. I'd rate most of the food over 7/10. Hidden gems(11/10) were the freshly made garlic naan, sliced Tamago egg, and roasted veggies.

First impressions are very good. I don't know why a few of the staff acted tired of me. Some are really nice and don't lose their smiles. The food selection was good; you can get multicultural dishes. I would recommend it for family meals. As a bonus, there is an event that runs until the end of October where you can receive a complimentary meal if your gathering consists of more than 4 people (I don't know how many people they can provide the complimentary buffet for)

  • Sunil Sharma

Amazing lipsmacking food, theres all kind of cuisine available from seafood to vegen to aisan continental, sushi, desserts, Indian buffet, salads, all types of meats and bbq also available, I felt 2 hours time for a seating is less they should extend it to 3 hours, if you're there for an experience 2 hours would be less, but otherwise worth the money for any special occasion, especially when you have an event and want to ensure there's somwthing for everyone to relish.

Been coming here for over a decade on special occasions. Quality of food is unmatched for a buffet in Melbourne, plus the views are next level. No need to rush as there is plenty of food including seafood. We came as part of a stay at the Langham, and the service was seamless, for both dinner and breakfast. Only downside for some potentially is the cost - dinner on a weekend isn’t cheap!

We came In as a group. We had a large table service was fantastic. Even walking in to the restaurant, the hotel has a beautiful lobby. It's almost like being in the Bellagio or Venetian in Las Vegas. The election of seafood is amazing. Fresh sashimi, deserts , cheeses and fresh pasta in the spot. The view from the sitting area of the city is breath taking. I came here 3 years ago and we didn't get In so.please make a reservation.

Not great for a premium buffet. The food was average especially the sashimi which was not that fresh and they were being lazy and cut it into massive chunks rather than elegant sashimi pieces like someone who know what they are doing. The service was well below par with inexperienced staffs.

I have to say even though Melba is not as luxurious as Conservatory, the food is definitely better. This place surprised me - they have delicious Indian dishes and very tasty Miso soup, you can also order dishes cooked freshly for you. However their desserts rather quiet disappointing, the choices were too limited. At the same time the chocolate ice cream was exceptionally good. Very interesting place, worth to try.

I had the buffet breakfast and it was really good. It has the normal problems of a buffet such as waiting in lines, waiting for food to come out and temperatures not always being hot. But it has a great range of options to choose from including a traditional western breakfast, continental breakfast and Asia specific such as miso soup. It also has a salad and juice bar. Plus the staff are super friendly.

  • Nafta

A seafood paradise!! Service was impeccable. Fresh oysters. Made to order sashimi and sushi platters by a sushi chef. Great Indian and Asian dishes - freshly made on demand. Beautiful dessert selections as well but I dont have a sweet tooth. My husband, however, was very happy! Unfortunately, I was too busy enjoying the food and didn't take enough photos. I really can't wait to get back!
