Avoid at all cost...... This company had supplied the roadworthy for a vehicle I purchased. After 8days my car had stalling issues. I took it to my local mechanic who noted and provided photo evidence of a major oil leak and coolant block which should have been repaired/noted on the roadworthy (8days prior). After contacting Chris from midas and sending email of report/photos obtained, I dropped my vehicle in to be assessed with them to fix (under roadworthy). I had first contacted midas 6days prior to advise of issues. On the agreed day of drop off @0730am ,I called at @1400 for an update where christ stated his still waiting for roadworthy photos which should of been originally taken. I asked Chris why he hasn't already obtained these as he was notified of the issue 6days prior and organised drop off of vehicle that day. Chris became rude and defensive implying that this issue happened within the 8day period after roadworthy was passed and I could pick up the car if I needed my vehicle. I explained that if I was to take and drive the vehicle and more damage was done then I then am liable for repairs. Chris replied that that was fine the car would sit there at the shop in the corner until he was ready to deal with it. I then went to pick up my vehicle as I didn't trust this guy with it. At the shop on pick up my husband was recording myself and our conversation (as iam now taking civil action). Chris and his mechanic were extremely confronting aggressive, getting into my husbands face and trying to be intimidating (all caught on camera). The other mechanic began pumping his music so load and reving a car to the point of it backfiring sounding like gunshots (i feel sorry for that customer who owned that particular car). The issue is now been reported to consumer affairs,vic roads and will be loding a VCAT matter once repair cost are known. Please avoid this mechanics.

Chris and the team have been servicing my late model cars (Mercedes, VW) since 2014 and have done a fantastic job. They have earned my trust with their honesty and integrity, which I feel is rather lacking in the industry, even in dealerships. They are friendly, great to deal with and are super helpful! I have had bad experiences with privately owned workshops and dealerships doing "repairs" that aren't needed and frivolous garbage like "checks" which involved plugging in a computer to check error codes and charging you 3 hours labour (yeah Mercedes I'm talking about you!). Because of this, I chose to have my vehicles serviced at a company owned Midas shop in Brighton, and had a great experience for a number of years. This shop eventually got privatised, so I reluctantly moved my servicing to Midas South Melbourne (close to my work) who have done a superb job and have restored my faith. There are honest people in the car servicing industry, and these guys are at the top of the pile!

Misleading. Rip off. Avoid at all costs I needed new tyres and was given the most expensive option possible without being given other options. They did not make it clear that the price was per tyre when I was quoted over the phone, so when I got there and the job was done, I was charged double what I was told. I then found the same kind of tyre elsewhere, from brands that are just as good as the ones on my car, for half the price including fitting, balancing and alignment. Had I been given an option of a cheaper tyre I would have taken it to save myself $500... In the end, they waved a $20 note in my face (literally) to fix the problem, but when you've just paid over $1000, that means absolutely nothing. I clearly don't know much about cars, but after seeking advice post-service, I realise I have been cheated, which they obviously knew they could get away with.

HIGHEST Recommendation!!! If you are looking for an honest car repair shop in Melbourne! I had problems starting my Mitsubishi van. Because of the great ratings I decided to go to Chris and his team from Midas Autoservice in South Melbourne. And I was absolutely right! On the same day I got an appointment despite a garage full of cars. A few hours later the car was repaired and Chris clearly explained what he had done and gave me important tips. He also took my backpacker status into account, knowing that I have to pay attention to my expenses and don't understand much about cars. (Which is unfortunately often exploited, and you get ripped off at many car repair shops) An honest and friendly businessman who only wants the best for his customers. Absolutely fair car service, I am super satisfied! Thank you Chris!

I dropped my car in and didn't get it back until 5/6 weeks later, every time i would ring it would be very dismissive and he'd say he'd call me back tomorrow and didn't call until another week later, and the only thing they did was flush the engine and replace spark plugs. It ended up costing me $600 somehow even though its a regular old car and took them so long to do, my heater worked really really well before going in along with my radio and then i told him it didn't work at all afterwards and he said he had no idea how it could've possibly worked before? and tried to charge me to fix it :( some more transparency and less dismissive condescending phone conversations would be great and not taking a month and a half to do next to nothing.

I have used Midas South Melbourne for all car service and repairs since 2015,Chris and the team are great! I trust them and would recommend to everyone. They always complete jobs fast and quotes are always a very good price. Every service they let me know what work is needed to be done before commencing and let me know what might need to be done on my next service. I recently bought a Van for my business and the warranty was covered by another mechanic … I trust Chris that much I asked his advice which he provides, now the warranty is done I take all my vehicles to Midas Sth Melb. These guys are great. I've been bringing my car here for about 5 years now and they are always thorough and easy to work with. If I've had something urgent to do they will help me get it fixed quickly and if there are non-urgent issues they try to spread them out over a few visits so I'm not out of pocket too much in one service. I always know they will look after my car and give honest advice, they also check before they make repairs which is a big plus for me. I can't imagine going anywhere else

This is long overdue but wanted to thanks Chris and his team for all the effort they but into my little blue Barina beast. She's a great little (old) car and by no means standard, so had a regular spot in the Midas workshop for a while but Chris and the team got her up and running and solved issues that no other mechanics had been able to. She's since made the drive to Queensland and still going strong. Thanks again for all of your efforts with her and me, your patience and your kind attitude!

Very disappointing experience. Did not call me at any stage to quote on work or parts required before starting the work. Called me twice to tell me my car would be ready that day only to find it wasn't ready when arriving at the shop. Had my car for about a week more than necessary then tried then expected me to pay an arm and a leg for work I wasn't quoted on. Only decent thing done was taking a small portion of the initial price of as compensation. Would not recommend nor use ever again.

These guys have their heart in the right place, but I felt the work was so sloppy and unreliable that I won't return. At every step they did their best to do the right thing by me, but they were very slow and unreliable, with poor communication, and sometimes returning the car to me with additional broken parts without notifying me. It's with a bit of a heavy heart that I leave this review given they are nice guys, but it just went too far. Sorry guys.

I have been taking my car to be serviced at Midas South Melbourne for a number of years and have always found Chris and his team to be extremely friendly and helpful. Chris is a rare find in that that he will find ways for you to save money as opposed to these other mechanics that take people for a ride. I won’t be taking my car anywhere else. Okay so first service was alright, but after a while the guys didn't really help me with a part - because they were too busy servicing other clients who are paying much more!!! despite calling 3 or 4 times they just didn't seem interested in finding that part - handbrake cover - which I had to get myself from the junk yard... so it seems that the service standards drop over time - first time they were helpful but not after that...

Been coming here for some time now and never had any issues. Chris is an honest guy that has been very reliable. Just this last week he was able to save me a couple hundred dollars after I tried to get a RWC somewhere else since Midas was closed over the holiday and I got quoted a list of completely unnecessary repairs from the other shop. After an unfortunate incident with my boyfriend driving my car without the oil lid on, the team at Midas South Melbourne squeezed me in on a Saturday morning to cleaned copious amounts of oil from the inside of the bonnet so i could make it to a wedding in time. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and always confirm work before they go ahead and do it. Highly recommended.

I made a booking for 9am on Saturday. My booking was confirmed with an email. When I arrived there on time the place was closed. I've waited for a while and called all related numbers that I've found. No one answered. There is no general call center that I reach out and explain the situation. Consistently excellent service. I first came to Midas due to my previous mechanic attempting to massively overcharge on a job. The team at Midas took the time to explain what was involved, and provided a much better rate and overall experience. My Fiat 500 needed a lot of love (full service, timing belt, external driving belt, rear tyres and various other bits and pieces), and it's driving like a dream after a service from Chris and the team. I just had my windscreen washer pump replaced today by Midas South Melbourne. Total cost $119 ( Labour $70, part is NICE WINDSCREEN WASHER PUMP, invoiced $49, which I found out it's selling at Autobarn for $17.99). I am a girl and don't have much experience and knowledge about cars....Feeling been ripped off!!! Any one has any opinions???

Great first service with them as per my original review but enquiring about a replacement clutch and then following up numerous times by phone over the course of a week and a half resulted in no response at all. Good location. Close to the city and tram stop. Excellent value for servicing your car. Car had a brake squeak since new pads are put in, they fix it and now it’s squeak free. Easy appointment booking, they look very busy but despite that, the car is ready at pickup time as agreed.

Poor service, once determined by calls to leave the car inside the workshop I walked by to find it outside, after a tow there the day before, I have 2 cars and often waited up to 2 weeks in a wait list .
