Built in the 1880's when local tradition was at its most opulent, Miegunyah is one of Brisbane's most accessible Heritage Homes. Richly decorated with iron-lace balustrades, filigree columns and friezes, and furnished in the style of the late 19th century, Miegunyah is a living example of Victorian elegance and charm. Step through the wide cedar door way into the House Museum, be fascinated by exotic collectables from travels afar, learn about the people who lived at Miegunyah and ghosts that never left. Even glimpse the labours of 19th century housekeeping! Miegunyah is open to the public for tours and morning / afternoon teas. Miegunyah is also available for group visits, special interest groups, corporate and private functions. The Queensland Women's Historical Association (QWHA) monthly talks are held in the formal dining room. The QWHA archives and research facilities are held at the House Museum in a secure climate controlled environment. Access to these is available to researchers by appointment. The QWHA also produces a range of books and other publications. To view a list of these publications please download our current books and publications file. Miegunyah House Museum, the archives, research and publishing activities are maintained by The Queensland Women's Historical Association as a Memorial to the Pioneer Women of Queensland.
What a lovely treasure hidden in the side streets of Brisbane. We came upon Miegunyah House Museum unexpectedly during the Brisbane Open House in 2019. There is so much historian detail that is preserved within these halo walls that is so beautifully maintained. From the quaint kitchen to the charming laundry room, there is even a children's room tucked in the back with antiquated toys. The thing that amazed me the most was the dedication to Women of Queensland in the back parlour that is filled with incredible relics and history of all the wonderful women in history who were already shaping the world we wish to see today.
The best kept secret in Brisbane. And probably the best example of presentation and preservation left in an area that is rapidly loosing any history it had left. Now being replaced with vile examples of the worst looking high-rise apartment blocks Australia has ever seen. Jammed on top off or wacked nexto modern commercial eyesores that would make an industrial estate in China look like a holiday destination. Miegunyah is a fine example from a lost time where atheistic beauty positioning and belonging mattered to its surrounding environment and to the eye of the beholder. Well worth the visit for any age.
This historical house is breathtaking. Its charm oozes out as soon as you see it. Beautifully kept by the volunteers. Our host Gaye was super informative and new alot of the history of the house. She is a true treasure. This museum is a must see on your list if you get the chance. They serve devonshire teas as well on the verandah. So many memories from my childhood.
Thank you to the lovely Volunteers at Miegunyah House. What a beautiful morning we had with the very enchanting Michael who was our tour guide. This man is a wealth of knowledge. We were captivated and entertained with Michael's stories of days gone by of the Perry family. The morning tea of fresh scones, jam and cream on the verandah was most scrumptious.
It was my first time visit today & thoroughly enjoyed it. We did the tour & our guide Carolyn was very passionate & informative on the history of house & the High Society display. We were only going for afternoon tea so tour & info a bonus. A grand house & beautifully restored and all run by volunteers!!
What a wonderful story about the history of Brisbane!!!! It is well worth a visit to see the great display of items in the house with great information shared by the tour guides. Morning Tea on the balcony with fresh scones, jam and cream with tea/coffee was great.
This was a fascinating look into the history of Brisbane as told through the lens of this historic building. The tour given by Robyn was informative and filled with interesting tidbits of life throughout the last century. I can highly recommend.
We visited here on a Sunday afternoon in November. The volunteers enthusiastically guided us through the beautiful exhibits and shared interesting historical insights. Our whole family enjoyed our time here, making it a delightful weekend. More

If you are interested in the history and shaping of Queensland, this is a 'must see' place to visit. Drop in and experience the ambience and a wonderful Devonshire Tea on the verandah.
Lovely guided tour. Beautiful artifacts. I would recommend that guides explain some of the firsts of Australian women as documented in one of their rooms. Very interesting history.
The ladies were lovely and spent the time to tell us all the facts about the house, family and area. Great time with the family and kids would love the scavenger hunt.
A really interesting property full of historical items but what really made it a great experience was the knowledge and passion of the ladies showing guests around.
It is a good place for some history stories of a Brisbane family's life... Ladies there are friendly. They have scavenger hunt for kids as well. More
