Ming Garden Express is empty during the lunch hour! I sat outside had a cigarette before i ws going to make the trip back home. According to the sign on the door the restaurant was open! I did not bother to try opening the door. It looked dark inside, no detection of movement looking into glass door/windows. When i saw a lady walk out i yelled "is it open!" Her response was Yes! WHY SUCH A LARGE INTODUCTION TO THIS REVIEW? My review starts this way to give people an idea of how all the city, county, state, and federal rules, regualtions, and laws have effected the FOOD AND BEVERAGES INDUSTRY here in the city i live in!! I must let you know that an AIR FORCE BASE IS practically at my backdoor. You would think this area of town would be thriving and be a place of hustle and bustle! I realize the bases have been in pretty much a lockdown since the war against terrorism or i should say in my opinion, the war for oil in the far east. I won't let my bias interfere with the review. So, the young lady first response was, you have to pick up your mask! The one i had on tends to slide down, not a proper fit. So there you go, The Ming Garden Express is practicing the required covid 19 protocols. I saw a large area where tables and chairs stacked and cordoned off indicates this was a thriving business. The price i paid and the food i brought home to eat for brunch was also very good eating! I can't remember!!! I usually order the general tso chicken. If it is on the menu, i can't see it now (stress and anxiety over a lawsuit). So, i shall quote the receipt: 1 manager spe general ch 8.00 Egg roll Fried rice Big red 1 S2 hot sour soup 2.49 1/3/2021 12:10:03 pm Total i paid for the meal was $9.51, and it was well worth the money spent. The entre was delish i ate it through the night. The fried rice i finished about an hour ago. And the soup is not finished yet. I had to throw away my micro wave it had a leak in the vacuum. So, i have been drinking the hot sour soup cold and it lives up to it's name in flavor. Unfortunately, the egg drop soup i found in the bag was on my kitchen counter overnight and i had to throw it away. I would recommend this restaurant to all who wish to enjoy thier food! PLEASE NOTE: THEY ARE ONLY DOING WALK/TAKE OUT BUSSINESS, AND DELIVERY. In addition, please be nice to the employees you may run into. They must work to take care of thier families, during this time of the covid 19 virus. We are all under pressure, and perhaps fear for our children and family, weather they are sick or the fear of getting sick. Forgot to mention the young lady that worked the counter. She took the time to run over and open the door for me. I do so much appreciate it! Using a rollator is not something i do by choice, only so i can do the distance for my walk for something to eat. So, yes the restaurant is handicapped accessible! please note i have tried my best with editing my post on reviews and my page.

I have been a customer since 2012. It honestly is one of the best places to me. However I ordered my regular order. Family for 2 and a single order of fried rice. Which I have been ordering for the past 4 years. I always recieve 2 bags. This night I only got 1 bag. I asked if that was my order. I was assured it was. I get home which is a 45 min round trip. There's no fried rice I call and the girl says it was put in there. I repeat what is in the bag that I unpacked. There is NO FRIED RICE. She tells me I can be credited or come back and get it. It was my son's order so I said I would go back. The girl tells me that's fine call us when your here so we can make it. I'm 2 minutes out from restaurant and call to tell them. I then was told that they have cameras and that my rice was put in the bag. I stated they needed to look at the camera again. I have no Fried rice! Why would I do another 45 minute trip to them for just an order of fried rice? Rediculious! I was accused of receiving an order that I did not have! They have lost me and my family as customers. I will never recommend this restaurant again to any of my military family or friends. The manager didn't even come out to apologize or anything. I really hope they have cameras and look again!

I have been ordering food from here for years. Today I went ahead and got food delivered to my house and when placing the order I asked for extra sauce when the driver got to my house I gave him a 15 dollar tip and my general chicken had no extra sauce as my receipt also mentioned I called and the young lady called her dad the “manager “ to let him know the issue, I was asked to take my food back if I wanted it redone when I just paid for delivery and tipped 15 dollars I asked if They can bring me a new order and she said unfortunately I had to go to the restaurant to get a new order, I notified her I wouldn’t be able to do that due to not having a vehicle, I asked if I can get credit because I had no vehicle the young lady said no I have to go to get it redone. I asked if I can speak to the manager and she said no he’s busy right now and she can’t do nothing about it because she is only the messenger. Ive been a loyal customer but after this I would not be going there anymore. Poor customer service and no recognition of who their loyal customers are.

TLDR:I'v been coming here for 10 years now and i got to say this place never changes its a solid chines food restaurant. Longer review: Iv tried everything on the menu more then once and the go to meal that i choose is the general chicken. The kids meals are a great budget meal with a nice portion size. The tea is average some days better then others. My favorite appetizer is the crab puffs which are also priced pretty good. A item i also get and IMO is a must get for every order is the Hot oil which i pour over my rice, it is mildly spicy but adds the extra flavor for my rice. Egg drop soup is my favorite soup with beef noodle soup coming in at second, i like to pour hot oil in them with a pack or 2 of soy sauce its awesome. I do have to give a shout out to the lemon chicken its good and one of the most consistent dishes they serve. I would rate this a 3.5 if i could some days the food is better then other days which is why its not a 4 when they had the smaller establishment the quality was much better.

  • Maria Isunza

The food is great depending on the day, cause they have daily specials that change. However it is a great price for the amount of food you get in each lunch/dinner plate if bought on their special. It will come with the meat, rice, egg drop soup, and a egg roll/2 crab puffs. If you're allergic to shell fish do NOT eat the ragoons. They have crab meat not just cheese. It's a nice quiet spot to just dine in and leave real quick.

!Cockroach in the L-4 Chicken Lo Mein! We ordered $42 worth of Chinese food from Ming Garden Express. Upon delivery we began to eat the food. I finished the Shrimp fried rice eventhough the shrimp needed some flavor. 2 minutes later my wife tells me she's gonna throw up . There was a cockroach in her chicken lo mein. We called to complain and the restaurant owner didn't seem to care much about the roach. I had to drive back to demand a refund. This is our first and definitely last time trying this place. I added the pic of the roach and the receipt of our order to show the day/time of this incident. I urge everyone to stay away from this establishment or at least check your food as soon as you get it.

Sesame chicken and orange chicken have the same sauce.. The difference? One is sprinkled with sesame seeds the other with green onions. I uploaded the photo to google.. Yes, the sauce is sweet and sour!!!! See if you can tell the difference in the two pieces of chicken! Bet you can't! Called and asked for money back and they told me I was trying to tell them how to cook. They then blamed me that I didn't ask or do research before ordering their food. So, if you want sweet and sour chicken this is your spot.. If you don't want sweet and sour chicken I would probably go somewhere else. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!! Needless to say I didn't get my refund.. $30 went right down the drain...into the pockets of a restaurant owner who KNOWS they are selling food by false advertising.. Sad.

My Lemon Chicken was mediocre at best, the chicken itself was good, crispy outside, soft and well cooked on inside, but the lemon sauce was tasteless, not just lack of any lemon taste, but no taste at all. The fried rice that comes with the dinner is like most Chinese restaurants, plain and simple. The egg rolls that came with our dinners were burnt and "soggy" since not served in bags but laid on top of fried rice. My son said his Orange chicken sauce tasted like ketchup not like orange but it was spicy. So overall, not very good. Better food and cheap is China Star on Babcock, but their fried rice is plain as well, but portions are very hearty

We've been customers since 2014. They did have bigger portion sizes. There food that is supposed to be spicy is not. Now Ill let you know that I do not enjoy my nose running while i eat but a little spice is good. It has a mild spice. I do enjoy a l medium but the dish is always flavorful and the prices are still hard to beat. We order the family dinner and we do order shrimp plates which are $2 extra but its worth it. The kids meal is enough for 2 kids or someone who doesn't eat a lot. The friendliest employee when we've called was MELODY. We substitute the soups for extra crab puffs. The portion size is still enough for me to have leftovers but my husband will get full with his entree and he rarely gets full!

  • Amanda Brewer

I eat here regularly enough they already know who I am when I call in. I I'VE never at all like chow mein until I tried it at Ming Garden express and funny enough I wouldn't have if not sent to me by mistake the first time. The noodles they use are more Ramen style and not soggy or starchy at all and the chicken with brown sauce is not too salty like most. They keep a 10 star rating with me everytime I go in not to mention I never have to wait more than 5 mins anytime I go. Staff are nice and constantly cleaning. I now I want some lol

Posting this review specifically for the teriyaki chicken. It is not even remotely close to being teriyaki chicken. It was barely coated and the sauce didn't have much flavor at all. Tastes how you'd expect it to taste. I'm very fond of this place since i come here every month now and then. But ordering the chicken teriyaki and eating it wasn't pleasant at all. Everything else is great, such as the crab puffs here but the chicken teriyaki needs more help. (I've also included a 2022 update for the menu since some are 3 - 4 years ago.)

Positive: They deliver to Lackland. Food was kind of edible. Not so positive: Food is not good Saw a review saying food did not taste like Chinese food, I thought yeah right. Well they were right, we had chicken lo mein , generals chicken, and beef with broccoli. None of these dishes had a flavor close to anything like I have ever had before. The generals chicken and lo mein weren't gross, but they were not good. The beef and broccoli was very gross. Also had crab won tons, they had a decent flavor but they were packaged inside the other foods containers and as a result were soggy. Soggy, deep fried, cream cheese crab wads are gross.

Chicken was dry. And the last two times i went i got sick and had diarrhea the very next day and threw up. So i stop going for a few weeks came back got it a second time and the next day had diarrhea. Went recently and i went to get two plates and the guy came from out back and gave me a dirty look bald Hispanic guy for no reason. I guess maybe because i had a large backpack with me with my Groceries in it. I come i always spend 15 bux on food and i get a dirty look? i understand its family business but show respect and class. Cause im going there and giving you money for a check. Then i get home and the chicken was dry.

I've been going to mean since we moved in 2012. The atmosphere hasn't changed the people haven't changed in the food has changed even better. Is the best Chinese place that I've had since living in San Antonio.

This place to needs to up the ante when it comes to customer service. They pick and choose when and where to deliver to in the area. They have on a few occasions decided to deliver to me at work. Several times they have told me to call back and then they decide to not come out. Why would you ask a customer to call back then tell them again they will not come out. Make up your damn mind to where and when you will deliver. This will of course be the last time i try and call them to bring food out. This place one star for the poor customer service and the extremely rude people who answer the phones.

  • Jasmine Pedro

If I could give them zero stars for service I would. This place HAD the best Egg Foo Young in town however the last FIVE TIMES I went to the restaurant to order it they said they didn't have it. The last time I called before wasting a trip and they told me they didn't have it. So I asked why. The lady literally told me "it's too much work". Like what!?!?!? I'm not asking for a favor. I'm asking for an entree you STILL HAVE ON YOUR MENU. I'm so disappointed that they will deny an order because they don't want to do the work. YOU'RE A BUSINESS. WORK EQUALS MONEY.

finally! ming garden is back to a restaurant. I used to go when they were a buffet restaurant at Ingram; 'member, Yu 'member. the food is good. just like back then. the soda's are down. but the lemonade is good. I got my usual, beef and broccoli. still good.! the Rangoon tasted good. they just got there so excuse the eye sore by the rest rooms. good view of summit. staff friendly. it's somewhat fast food and dine-in restaurant. the dinning area is simple but nice. lots of room. lots of parking space. if you remember Ming's from before, try it again.

  • Jennifer Reyes

This was disgusting. Everything had the same sauce and it all tasted the same. I was wondering why the prices where low and now I know why. Everything is covered in a sickly sweet red sauce and the only difference is they sprinkled seamse seeds on one, made little kabobs on the other and put scallions on the other. It all has the same taste. Can't believe we paid 21 dollars for this. Wish I could get .y money back. It even looks disgusting and unappealing wish o could upload pics of how it looks. Guess I need to spend more money to get something else.

I had one of the lunch specials, sweet and sour chicken - a GREAT value! Normally this is not a dish I would order because every where I've ordered it the chicken has been dry. That was definetely not the case here. The batter was light but very crispy and the chicken was so moist it was literally glistening. The sauce was neither too runny or too thick - it was perfect. Everything was fresh and the portions are very generous, I had enough leftover for a 2nd meal. Service was great too, very friendly employees. Will absolutely be back!

  • Juan Bravo

The food was delicious and surprisingly very affordable, even the dinner prices. The staff treated my group of friends well. It doesn't look like much but you'd be surprised with the taste. A large menu is posted on the right as you enter. You will be provided with a cup after ordering and you can serve your own drink at the fountain. Tea is available as well. You will need to get your own utensils and napkins but they are conveniently located next to the fountain drinks. Seating I believe is first come first served.

  • Tybo

The food is too greasy. I ordered fish and fries. I’m not sure what type of fish it was. It was brown, black and fried in old grease. Like it’s been soaked in grease or previously cooked just waiting on someone to order it. The guy at the register said it would be good. The Lies he told. Check your food before you leave this place. Better yet, don’t waste your time and money.

Decent service but the food is generic store sauce and the chicken teriyaki is just a chicken nugget that is unbearably dry with some red sauce. The orange chicken is orange with a tastless sauce and more chicken nuggets that are more dried out than the sahara. Atmosphere is bland with all their supplies piled up in the corner. Do not waste your time or money here.

We have gotten the family dinner for 2 delivered to us 3 times now and each time it is more then enough food and it all taste amazing!! We have tried other Chinese takeout in the area and none compare!! UPDATE: We have now had food delivered from here about twice a month for the last 7 months. The quality of food and service is always on point. We even had people over and did the family dinner for 4, you talk about enough food for about 6 people!! This place just can't be beat.

  • Jodie Brown

Stopped by on the way home. Truly the only impressive thing that my experience from this 1st and only visit was the service. Staff was quick and attentive with my order. The food itself leaves a lot to be desired for, although a good quantity for the price, every item of my meal was tasteless. Definitely didn't meet the expectations on this visit.

I've been there a handful of times. The food is always on point, the service is always very friendly, the prices are comparable to other Chinese food restaurants, and it's never super crowded. It has a rather nice semi intimate ambiance. The only two negatives that I can think of, would be that the tea is instant, and it's such a hole in the wall that I've missed the place for years and only recently found it by accident. But I am very glad I did.

  • Loren Taylor

I discovered this little gem 4 years ago, back when they were take out and delivery only. They have always had great prices, great portions, and their food is delicious. After moving to the Dallas area 2 years ago, I never found a place that ever lived up to Ming Garden. Nowadays, I drive out of the way every time I am in San Antonio just to enjoy food from Ming Garden! Very excited to see they have upgraded to the new location with a dining area!

  • David A

Food was good, price very reasonable. I had the Chicken & broccoli. Egg roll and egg drop soup come with the meal. As for the ambiance, looked like a restaurant in search of an identity. Kind of a warehouse look more suited to bingo or a dance hall than a restaurant. The obligatory wall decorations gave it an Asian flair. The food was served in plastic containers with plastic flatware. So presentation wasn't so great but again, the food was good!

  • Vanessa Castillo

Had a great dinner with the family. We ordered the family dinner for four: got beef lo mein, shrimp lo mein, kung pao chicken, & lemon chicken. Good size portions, so much food and very tasty! Good prices as well. There isn't a lot of Chinese food options near us so I'm happy we found this place. As for the inside: lots of space, plenty of tables, really clean. Just needs more decorations or paint.

This is a review of what I got, no idea how any of the other food is. I got the general tsos chicken with white rice, egg roll, and pork loin mein. The general tsos was terrible, I got extra spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. Along with that it had absolutely no tast and was dry, tastes like some frozen chicken . Rice was really stick . Egg rolls weren't bad, pork in the mein was so chewy it wasn't enjoyabl . I would not suggest this plac .

  • Laurie Mangual

Ordered a daily manager special today for delivery which is supposed to include your main meal, fried rice, egg roll and egg drop soup. Delivery was on time but was missing soup. Called restaurant back to ask about it, the response was that they don't include the soup when it is a delivery. Advised her that was not posted anywhere on the website. When asked if they could do anything to correct this, they said no. Horrible customer service.

  • Andrea Williams

Doesn’t taste like real Chinese at all. Shrimp fried rice taste like Mexican shrimp fried rice. It’s good though. But you can tell. Especially if you ever ate at mambo. The chine dishes on the other hand don’t taste nothing like Chinese food. I got what I usually order from Chinese places which is kum pao chicken and it was terribly disgusting. Fresh but nasty. Nasty fresh if you get my drift. Didn’t even have all the ingredients.

Good was dry and didn’t taste good. Crab rangoons tasted like grease and I specifically asked for the soda and the cashier said it wa in the bag, but I got home and it wasn’t in there. The lemon sauce (which I asked for extra) wasn’t in any of the bags nor was the small soup for one of our meals. Very disappointed for a 4.2 star rating.

Used to be great but now trash order general chicken tast nothing like it taste like chicken toss in teriyaki sauce and what's up with kids plated they serve it in I'm grown man owners being cheap maybe that's why they have no staff been in restaurant industry for 15 years from prep cook to general manager for big food chains and definitely believe it's not being run correctly management needs a lot of work?

  • Vincent Solis

I came here because I was told it was good and had good portions of food for the price. First time getting food I had ordered take out and I got my food and was surprise with the little portion of food. It’s like if they game me a kids plate portion. Not even a full plate food. The container is like a 5 inch by 7 inch container. Dam I should of just spend my money somewhere elsewhere. Will be my last time.

Not only did we wait an hour and 15mins for the food but our delivery driver had the audacity to harass my wife about not receiving a tip from her and made ugly comments about her and no tip as well. ming garden I’ve been a loyal customer way before you moved locations, but I’m not going to put up with your employees if they’re going to be treating me and my family this way. Please get this fixed.

I ordered lunch today and I was rather dissatisfied. I ordered Kung Pau chicken and Beef and Broccoli..and veggie Lo Mien. First..there was NO peanuts in the Pau at all! Pau means Peanuts! Chicken tasted old and not a bit of heat. Beef in the other meal tasted and smelled weird. Needless to say..my Grandson wouldn't touch it. Lo Mein didn't taste fresh. All a disappointment! Just bla bla!

The food was good. I order around 1 o clock. I ordered 5 meals for my family. Halfway through my box of orange chicken I find two very long hairs in my fried rice I find two very long curly hairs. Dark, looks shoulder length, loose curl. I know it's not my hair because I shaved my head in dec. Other then losing my appetite from my fine the food was wonderful

WORST food ever! I drive cross country and never tasted food this bad. Shrimp and broccoli tastes like rusty water. Sesame chicken is not it's more like sweet and sour, and it is literally in a shack!!! Beware, don't waste your money!!! Service _ employees are pleasant and friendly but they have to be with such horrible food. Date 06/18/2012 @ 7:15pm

  • Warren S

Not going to lie, the location is super shady and the building looks like a shack but man the food is pretty good and very reasonably priced. The entrees are always good but sometimes the rice is off depending on who is cooking. It's very clean on the inside and they good health inspection scores. The manager's special is the best deal in town!!

  • Lisa Villanueva

I love the food. The tables are spread apart. The staff is constantly cleaning table. Today I tried the Sweet and Sour chicken managers special. It was $8.49 for the rice, egg roll, chicken l, egg drop soup and a tea. It was delicious!

The food is pretty good, ordered delivery and the food was quick and still warm when we got it everything was a bit salted but still satisfying. I was disappointed in the lemon chicken. The sauce was extremely watery and had no flavor. I would say this place is about a 3.5. I would order from here again. Orange chicken was amazing !

I placed my order over the phone and I got a young lady who was incredibly rude to me. I couldn't stand the rudeness behind her voice so I asked if she can at least try to sound like she cared about my order and she just hung up on me. Never will I bother with this place again. You shouldn't either. The food isn't even that great.

Ordered delivery. Food was horrible. Something tasted off in the wonton soup and it was really salty. Got steam dumplings and a combination fried rice. Those were kind of okay but I was starving so it had to do. You know that feeling after eating something and you hope your stomach will be okay the next day. All thumbs down.

I was very disappointed in the food this time. I've never complained or disliked anything about mings garden until now. Their portions have really gotten very small and the taste or flavor wasnt good at all.. I don't think I'll be returning to this place an that's disappointing cause my family enjoyed eating their food..

If you haven’t eaten here when they had the shack on frontier, then you’re seriously missing out. This place is amazingly delicious!! Their beef fried rice has to be their signature dish because holy crab Rangoons!! I’m go happy they have a bigger place. I’m so happy they are still around. I love this place!!!

  • Donna Sunshine

My moo goo gai pan (photo on the left) was made with a brown sauce and had bell peppers...weird...and wasn't a fan of the fried rice...but the lemon chicken and kung pau chicken were very good and the helpings were excellent...will definitely try them again but will stay clear of the moo goo gai pan!!!

  • Amber Mitchell

I ordered sesame chicken and let’s just say it did not taste anything like sesame chicken. The chicken was dry and over cooked with burnt sesame seeds. The egg roll was also over cooked. The fried rice was ok but very cold. I do not recommend you order this food . I wish I had checked before I paid.

Bleh. The orange chicken was dry and red with a hint of burnt. The tea was cloudy like it had been out too long. Beef Egg foo yung was burnt on the edges. Rice was good. Service was nice. The dining room was a bit warm. Not sure if the air was just not working or what. We won't be back.

Seems like the recipes and the menu items are more authentic. I mean I wouldn't have a clue what the restaurants are serving in China or how the tastes differ from here but at this restaurant it's pretty damn good and it's unique enough to let my imagination take me across the Pacific

My husband and I have been ordering food from here for the past few years! The food is great and the price is right, and you get what you pay for. Great amounts of food!! No matter what you order!! One of my favorite spots to get some grub when hungry for sum Chinese!! …

Best Chinese delivery in my area! So far everything I've ordered has tasted fantastic. I highly recommend the wonton soup! They always get here within the time frame they say, so I'm not just sitting at home wondering where my food went. They are our go to Chinese delivery!

  • Jeff B

1st time take-out order. Ordered tofu with vegetables. Very well wrapped up. Received chicken with vegetables. >1 cup of chicken wasted on me. Brown sauce was very salty. Egg roll seemed like a cheap frozen version. I think I'll pay more for area Thai & Chinese hereafter.

  • S Winchester

Great value! You get a good amount of food for what you pay for. Highly recommend the sweet and sour chicken! And the egg drop soup is sooo good! Delivery drivers are very friendly and definitely deserve a tip! Been ordering here for a while and everytime it's excellent!

  • Nancy Solis

We have ordered from here in the past and its always good, but today from the first call the girl on the phone was wonderful, the driver was amazing very friendly and the food was on point. Delicious. I have to say this place by far the best delivery in SA. Thank u …

Used to be pretty good but I won't be returning. Ordered the sweet and sour pork special and it was tougher than leather. Obviously had been reheated from a few days previously. Just had to throw it away! It was good at one point but I'm not taking my chances again.

The chicken and especially pork are extremely dry. Its like eating rocks. Whoevers cooking there does not know what they are doing. The vegetable lo mein had no taste and the veggies are never fully cooked. Dont waste your money. Money down the drain.

Fast and Always Accurate and the food taste great! One of very few places whre I can actually get crab filled ragoons. I have Never had an issue with them. The price for the amount you get is worth it. Alwyas have leftovers for later.

Great price for everything you get. Tastes great too. My kids are always asking for Ming Garden. We can feed my family of 5 under $20 we get the lemon chicken, fried rice, egg roll, soda bottle, egg drop soup all for $6. …

Rude female employee. When I call I don't expect to be rushed. On the positive side the food is priced well with large portions. We always order the family dinners which we feel is a great deal compared to restaurant competitors.

The prices here are inexpensive and the food is good, but nothing amazing. You can sit and eat here or order the food to go. They got my food out fast and fresh. I might go back to eat here, but not any time soon.

Been coming here since 2005, at that time it was delivery to the base. Now even though I live miles and miles away, I still find any chance I get to eat Ming’s. Very affordable and very delicious!!

I used to like this place and ordered food from work. Quality of the food has decreased. Eggrolls dark brown and overcooked, is like the oil they used to fry them was very old. Food was not fresh.
