Moorooka railway station is an awkward station to use, in that it is accessible only by overhead foot bridge, has no off-street car parking facilities whatsoever and is only staffed for a few hours on week day mornings. The station has always been unpretentious, being built as just a platform where Ipswich Road originally crossed the railway by level crossing in 1886, a year after the line opened to Loganlea. The name "Moorooka" is derived from the aboriginal "Mooroonga", possibly meaning "place of ironbarks". The station was moved to its present location around 1891/2 and a waiting shed was provided. By 1928, a station-mistress was on duty. The standard gauge railway to Sydney and the adjoining Clapham goods (freight) yard became operational from 1930. However, the QR line was only duplicated in 1950/1. Electric trains started running through Moorooka to Kingston in 1982 in time for the Commonwealth Games. Today, Moorooka has a 15 minute weekday frequency of all-stations services to the City, Ferny Grove and Cooper's Plains and a half hourly service to Beenleigh. Change trains at Altandi for the Gold Coast or Park Road / City stations for the Airport as these trains run express through Moorooka.

the access is impossible with a wheelchair and when you are alone with a pram, it is impossible to go through the station. you need a second person. would be nice to get a lift or something else a bit more wheelchair friendly...

This is not the best place for prams and wheelchairs. No lift here. Only stairs. No drinking water tap and hardly any staff around. Preparation is the key. You can catch only local trains here that stops all stations.

Difficult to access and no elevator or ramps for Wheelchairs, scooters or bicycles. Looks like it was built in the 50's and never maintained or upgraded. Where is our tax money and train fare going?

Lost so many points for their wheelchair and pram access. It is a spacious and clean station which could be utilized much better with an upgrade.

This train station is due for upgrade. No wheelchair access. No water fountain. No customer's rest room.

Moorooka Station is okay if you want to access the ccaryards on Ipswich Road ...

This place does need a lift for wheel chair access and a water fountain.

The colours in the sky at dusk are beautiful to look at from the bridge.
