I would like to express my deep gratitude to Gillian Wong for her care and support during my most difficult time. I am very impressed with her professionalism and warmth at Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home. My mom passed away at home last month. I called Gillian after my mom's passing, she simply said to me "There is NO rush, take your time. Are there any other family members who want to come and say goodbye to your mom? NO rush we can wait. I can come to take care of your mother within 2 hours when you are ready. " She was very respectful of my mother, professional and helpful. We had a family meeting that evening. She patiently answered all our questions, helped us to make tough decisions, and made sure every detail was taken care of. She never upsells me on anything or any additional fees. The service was set 5 days later. After the meeting, she told me today was the final working day before her vacation. She told me not to worry, she was not out of town and would handle the entire scheduling process by herself. During these 5 days we kept in touch, Gillian helped me go through every detail of the service and all necessary documents. She never missed one of my calls or messages and always responded immediately. In the beginning, I only expected 27 family members and close friends would attend the service and finally, 67 people were confirmed to come. Since this is not a very small service as we planned before, Gillian told me better to have an MC to hold the service. Finally, Gillian became our MC with an opening and ending speech in both languages (English and Chinese). She was in charge of the service, everything went very smoothly, reassuringly, and perfectly. She didn't charge any fees for the extra work and I know she spent so much time for our service during her vacation. From the first call making arrangements to pick up, hold the service, cremation, and then she delivering the ashes to my home, I could not have asked for better service. Thank you again, Gillian and her team at Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home. Your support and concern make me deeply warm and engraved in my heart.

All of it blew my mind and exceeded my expectations. The entire process from the paper offering the evening before to the actual service to the drive to the cemetery and the burial, it was so professional and my family felt guided and supported throughout the process. It was our first funeral so we were very ignorant and were so glad to be support by Gillian and her team; Gillian is kind, action oriented, honest, full of resources and gave helpful advice when we were indecisive and lacked knowledge. I have already recommended Mount Pleasant to many friends and family with older parents/grandparents for their future services. I was extremely impressed that during the drive to the cemetery in our own cars that in front of the hearse was Mount Pleasant’s own vehicle with a flashing light leading the way. Lastly Gillian and others stayed with us to watch the burial and laid out seats under an awning in case of rain; we were all very impressed at all the detailed planning. Very well done! Lastly Gillian recommended Elegance Flowers (will be reviewing there as well) and I have to say the flowers were amazing, so if you’re reading this and need flowers (especially the Asian type with Asian writing), he is especially good and the flowers were still very fresh over two days of service. Also if you’re doing an Asian ritual, we bought the paper offerings package from Mount Pleasant and for $275 it came with everything we needed (house, car, servants, money) and I also liked that Mount Pleasant gives complimentary incense, white and red envelopes and candy upon request. It’s all well done and less for families to have to plan themselves since it’s already hard to make arrangements and remember all the details while you’re grieving. Lastly if you need blankets for an Asian burial, Chinatown has a place next to the Vancity credit union, check that street; the Asian couple there were so helpful and explained the different colours that each family member should buy - also highly recommended but forgot the name of the place.

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the exceptional support the Funeral Director, Johnny Ho provided during the difficult time when my mom passed away in Vancouver and I reside in Toronto. His unwavering commitment to being detail-oriented and thorough throughout the entire process made a world of difference for me. His dedication to going the extra mile did not go unnoticed. From the initial consultation to the final arrangements, he ensured that every aspect was handled with the utmost care and attention to detail. His guidance and expertise were invaluable in making this challenging process more manageable. What truly stood out was his follow-through. He was there for me at every step, ensuring that everything was in order and alleviating the burden of logistics during an emotionally trying period. His reassuring presence and ability to manage all the intricacies were a source of immense comfort to me. I am deeply appreciative of the professionalism, empathy, and the exceptional service Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home provided. Their efforts made a difficult time more bearable, and I am grateful beyond words. Thank you once again for Johnny's dedication and support. You have my heartfelt appreciation.

We had our mother’s funeral at Mount Pleasant last week. Gillian, the manager, arranged for the transport of mom’s body within 2 hours of us calling her. She then had a meeting at our home with us to discuss the arrangements. She was respectful. thoughtful and sensitive to our needs at this very emotional and difficult time. She guided us through every minute details every step of the way. She did not try to up sell us like what I hear some funeral home does to take advantage of the families at their most vulnerable moments. As a matter of fact she guided us with some practical advice. She took care of every single detail of the funeral. All we had to do was to show up. The service was dignified and smoothly ran. It was an additional pleasant surprise when we got the final bill; it was MUCH lower than we expected. Not that we were looking for a bargain, the fee wasn’t even entered into our mind when we made the arrangements. We just wanted to give mom a dignified farewell she so deserved. And we certainly had that and excellent service from Gillian and her team. I wholeheartedly recommend Mount Pleasant Funeral Home and Gillian without reservations.

Death is new to us and losing a loved family member is one of the hardest things my family had to go, and am still going through. We didn't know anything about Chinese funeral traditions and customs and with all the grieve, it was hard to stay focused. Gillian Wong helped guide my family through a much difficult time with grace and respect. She brought comfort to my family by helping us honour our Grandma in the most respectful Chinese traditions possible. She made us focus on family and what the family wanted. She is professional and trustworthy. Whatever promises she made, she follows through with them. At the end of the day, things will still be difficult but at least during the days leading up to and on the day of the funeral, there was a sense of peace/comfort that I felt Gillian had some part in in helping us find.

Very disappointed. I had called Mount Pleasant Funeral Home while my late grandmother was still in the hospital to gather information and figure out next steps regarding funeral arrangements. Mount Pleasant provided useful information and was very helpful. Once my grandmother passed, I called them back to do the necessary next steps. To my dismay, I had called 3 times, left 3 messages with the receptionist for a funeral director to call back, and no one called back. It was a stressful time, and our family felt that time was of the essence as we wanted to make all the necessary arrangements for my late grandmother sooner rather than later. I was very disappointed that the funeral home had not returned my call. I ended up going with another funeral home in Richmond, and they provided fantastic service.

I walked in at their door step in the most vurnerable state after being treated like a garbage woman by another funeral home. Julienne and Polly from Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home treated us with kidness, respect and compassion, to the point I felt so connected with them and able to trust them with my son's body. These two women became a part of our son's journey on earth, I will forever be grateful for their service and praying God to expend their services beyond boarders. Thank you so much for understanding our pain and grief, giving in enough time in planing, giving us time to spend with baby boy before the burial . You are not in business , you are providing service. Thank you so much Julienne for letting me cry on your shoulders

Losing a loved one isn't easy but Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home helped us make planning the funeral a lot easier. We were really impressed on how smoothly the funeral went. We even got a lot of comments from friends that attended the funeral on how much they liked the setup and how smooth it went. And due to COVID, precautions were taken into account and we felt safe all the time. After guests left, staff would spray down the pews. They also kept count of how many guests were in the building and ensured we did not reach the maximum number of guests allowed in a gathering. All the staff there were awesome and compassionate, especially Gillian Wong who guided us through everything. We can't thank you enough!

We lost my father a few weeks ago and chose Mount Pleasant Funeral Home from previous experience of others using the facility. Johnny was so helpful and helped my family during this tough time. When losing someone suddenly, it's a blessing to know there are services that can help with everything to relieve the pressure and stress a family is already experiencing. I highly recommend Mount Pleasant. They took care of everything we needed and explained every detail and option for my family. We're grateful they also took care of the correspondence between the cemetery and made some arrangements for us to ease us doing it ourselves. All staff were very professional.

When someone passes it can be a difficult time and often requires special care and attention. Tony Hicks, Funeral Director at Dignity Memorial, went above and at every turn to attend to our family's needs. The venue was beautiful as well and had many excellent amenities such as a built in screen and projector, podium and microphone and even a working fireplace, which my mother also had so it was a lovely touch to be able to light it during her service. Thank you so much for everything Dignity Memorial and especially to you Tony Hicks. We are deeply grateful.

To Tony Hicks of Vancouvers Mount Pleasant- our family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks for his excellent care and guidance. Tony was readily available, listened to our mother’s wishes and provided us with exactly what we wanted. In addition, the 2 team members who attended the funeral with Tony were outstanding. In addition, we were very pleased and impressed by the offer of 13 months of free grief counselling offered by your organization. We will most certainly recommend Mount Pleasant to our friend should the need arise.

Gillian Wong was our contact person at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. She was very professional to guide the family throughout the entire process and exceptionally attentive to details. During such a stressful time of having lost a loved one, Gillian did her best to give us support not just during the process, but also after that. She is empathetic, understanding, accommodating, and patient. She provided us exceptional services but never forced into purchasing anything that we did not want. Gillian is amazing!

Tony Hicks our funeral director went above and beyond. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He was able to answer all of the questions that myself and family had. On the day of the funeral everything went more perfect then I could’ve imagined because of the staff. I lost my mom and the way the funeral turned out would’ve put a smile on her face. I couldn’t have asked for a better service. Thank you from everyone at Mount Pleasant!

Thank you Mount Pleasant Universal for arranging my mother's funeral and cremation services on short notice, and under many limitations and delays during this difficult covid-19 period. I myself was flying in from overseas and had to do 14-day self-isolation on arrival; luckily funeral director Gillian was able to provide excellent and timely remote support and everything turned out well in the end. Really appreciate your efforts.

Losing a family member, particularly a mother, is a tremendous loss to any family. From the funeral director to the staff everyone made planning and carrying out my moms service gratefully simple. The facilities and hearse were very nice. One would hope they would not need to return to such a venue but it is inevitable so when the time comes we will only use Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home. Thank you.

Gillian Wong was very helpful and professional from the first day I contacted her and managed to get me in to meet with her to make funeral arrangements the same day my dad passed away as I lived in the suburbs and I was in Vancouver. Her assistant Sara was also very helpful with the online obituary, webinar information, funeral pamphlets and signing register. Very helpful from start to finish.
