Een boeiende tentoonstelling over de westerse muziekgeschiedenis aan de hand van oude muziekinstrumenten en voorwerpen in het historische Vleeshuis van Antwerpen. Bij binnenkomst dien je naar een website te surfen (gratis wifi) en dan kan je daar uitleg over de meeste voorwerpen opvragen via nummertjes en soms muziekfragmenten beluisteren. Erg handig is dat natuurlijk niet. Een audiogids met automatische afspeling of scanning was beter geweest. Het ontbreekt ook wel aan een duidelijk parcours. Het gelijkvloers is het meest interessante met de historische instrumenten. In de kelder is er een klokkengieterij en instrumentenbouwer atelier nagemaakt, alsook items over dans en fanfare. Daar bevinden zich ook de deftige toiletten, enkel te bereiken via smalle trap. Men komt weinig te weten over de historie van het gebouw op zich. Het gebabbel van het personeel aan de receptie weergalmt in de hele ruimte, wat wel storend is. Voor mensen met muziekachtergrond zal het wellicht nog boeiender zijn. Na 2,5 uur heb je het meeste wel gezien. Interessante inhoud, maar het concept kan beter.

Wonderul, wonderful museum! The building served as Butcher’s hall from 1504 until 1800. After serving as a warehouse for grain and wine until 1913, it turned to a museum. There are infinitely many musical instruments inside of which you can actually listen to the sound/music. How cool is that! Additionally in the basement, there is a section explaining the belfry fabrication.

Super leuk museum om een keer gezien te hebben. Het was niet zo groot, maar als je een echte muziekliefhebber bent is het leuk om meer over alle verschillende muziekinstrumenten iets te weten te komen. Het zijn er echt veel en van sommige wist je niet dat ze bestonden. Het personeel was vriendelijk!

A must visit for a music culture lover! There were very few people, so I could peacefully appreciate those collections. The collections and descriptions were very good, I learnt many things. It's a pity that not no many people know this meseum.

What a wonderful place, the name is a bit Misleading. It's a museum for Al kinds of musical instruments. Use you're mobile to navigate and listen to samples. Really a must see when in Antwerp.. A big thumbs up. You won't regret it.

It's got all the bells and whistles . A must see for every music lover. A wonderful display of all sorts of instruments. The museum takes you back 600 years in time ! Really amazing how well preserved the instruments are.

The building is very beautiful the museum is actually about music history in Antwerp. It has an activity booklet for kids but I would not recommend it for the small ones as there us little to touch or interect. People were super friendly and gave us great explanation about the instruments …

I really enjoyed this museum, the website where you can hear the instruments being played was a huge bonus that brought it to life! The exhibit was good and I enjoyed the workshops in the basement

Weren’t able to go inside, but it is quite remarkable how the brickwork of the old butchers guild building looks like bacon.
