Bankstown blitz, My Canh Vietnamese Extravaganza My quest for the ultimate broaster chicken somehow led to stumbling upon this gem. For an entrée I slammed down a beef sharwarma and twice-cooked lamb brains, for tonight will be defined by rampage eating. That being said, I wasn't that hungry, so I ordered a couple of dishes to degustate, a taste-test as it were. Snow pea sprouts with preserved beancurd. These weren't exactly stir-fried. I was hoping for a hot kiss from the wok. Still tasty in an odd way, odd because I seem to be waxing lyrical about vegetables. Oyster sauce, sugar, fish sauce were the main flavours behind this dish. Diabolical. Crispy skin chicken. Lightly blanched then hung to dry, these Maryland pieces were fried to crispy perfection. Exactly what I anticipated. Pure protein goodness. Salt & Pepper Squid. Served with a vinegar dip, these tasty morsels were very lightly battered. To the point of low carb. Very well done. Excellent beer food, what, with garlic, salt and chili highlights. Salt & Pepper Pork. Strips of pork battered then wok tossed in aromatics. Five spice, sugar, ginger. Key thing was a different batter was used here than the squid. Not just because coating dynamics differ between the substrate squid that is hydrophobic vs pork that is hydrophilic, but understanding that ginger enhances pork, whilst garlic enhances squid tells me that the chef appreciates the subtleties of flavour country. Butterflied prawn in butter. Some description like that. This turned out to be a homemade cutlet of prawns. Imagine biting into a huge shrimp wanton that was stuffed with more shrimp wontons. Or having a large cake from whence jumps out a smaller cake. Pleasantly surprising in a surprisingly pleasant way. I quite enjoyed this impromptu Vietnamese meal. It brought me back to Vietnam, closed my eyes I did. Why? Extensive menu, with offerings hardfound elsewhere. I will be back for seafood and traditional Vietnamese steamboat. Why not? Dunno. How can you not like Vietnamese cuisine? You don't? Go to hell already, go on, git! #mycanh #bankstownfood #vietnamesefood
After a visit to the NSW Health vaccination centre at Olympic Park, I decided to take the train to meet my dining companion in Bankstown. Wandering the streets near the station smelling a multicultural melange of options, we settled on an impromptu Vietnamese dinner. My Canh cuts a nice architectural silhouette against the darkening twilight sky. Inside the large fluoro-lit restaurant is an institutional cream with blue highlights, brightened up with menu photos and fake plants. If the number of photos ringing the room don’t already give it away, My Canh has a massive menu. With nutty hot green tea served without question, we settled in for a long read. The seafood spring roll ($7) we opt to share is a crisp dome of blistered pastry wrapped around a surprisingly big ball of mixed seafood. Dragged through mayonnaise, it’s quite delicious. With beef such a feature of Vietnamese menus, it’s hard to make choice, but the cold night eventually made a sizzling platter of Mongolian beef ($25) seem the most attractive. It’s a distinctly Vietnamese take on a Chinese dish, with thin slices of beef that taste of lemongrass cut by juicy brown onion and crisp snow peas. We eat it with fried rice ($12)—served on the loudest plate I’ve ever encountered in a restaurant—studded with its own riot of colourful additions: peas, carrots, corn kernels, prawns and red pork. Fermented bean curd isn’t the prettiest topping for a plate of stir-fried morning glory ($12), but it is a way to make eating a lot of greens particularly attractive. My chopsticks alternate between it and tasty (market-price) pipis in syrupy XO sauce ($42). While they did feel slightly pricy, the freshness and quality of the clams was unmistakable and I really enjoyed this dish. Tall glasses of fresh lemon juice ($4.50) helped this impromptu meal (in an unlicensed restaurant) feel healthy and complete. If I found myself in Bankstown again, I’d return to explore this menu further...
My favourite place for Viet food. Its a big restaurant with great service. The food is quick, presented well and honestly tastes amazing. It's my go to for vietnamese food. I haven't found any place that compares!! And prices are more then reasonable. Its a must for anyone that like Viet food. I recommend pippies in XO sauce

Quite the long wait for our food, beyond 30 mins so be prepared for the wait if coming on a weekend night. Despite ordering a variety of dishes (sweet and sour soup, sizzling beef, salt and pepper tofu) everything had a similar smell. Food was okay tasting, obviously with such a huge menu some dishes were better than others. There are definitely other spots in Bankstown just a short walk away that does Vietnamese food better.

This restaurant stands out from other Vietnamese restaurants with its large menu. Too many Viet places offer a small range or specialise in a particular thing, stopping by here you'll have pages and pages of menu to select from. Every time my girlfriend and I have come here to eat we've both had very enjoyable meals. Just thinking about it now reminds me that it's been too long since we stopped by for a meal.
Seen as an expensive restaurant for Vietnamese people, the food here unlike a lot of Vietnamese restaurants are quite light and non greasy. The dishes here are more subtle rather than wholesome or full of flavour, Vietnamese people generally come here in groups for dishes to share rather than individual dishes. The place is very clean compared to other Vietnamese restaurants and the customer service is good.
Being a big Tongan lad that loves his Viet food, My "My Canh" experience was unbelievable. The fantastic customer service, the quick cooking times of the food and also the satisfaction in terms of the quality and quantity of the food was exceptional. My wife and i ordered 4 dishes, and each one had a unique element about it. Taste was great and so was the presentation. Highly recommended.
The pawpaw salad here was amazing! Served with prawn crackers, this dish was delicious. We ordered about 4-5 dishes and most of them were of high standard. Their flaming meat dishes are always a food option and their seafood has been fresh on multiple visits. Food can be somewhat pricey but still worth trying if you have not been. They have English speaking staff too!
Food was delicious ! Decent price and tea was served hot but cool enough to drink straight away. The only downside is splitting the bill. The man did not seem happy to split and charged us an extra $1 each for splitting. So best to pay together and transfer to one account.

I think it's a family business but the son and father are always so kind and serving. If all the times I've been there, I've only had one problem where there was a dead fly though they halt replaced it. The broth for pho is much more flavoursome compared to Pho An that everyone raves about. It's cheaper here and less pushy
I used to love this place for the sour fish soup and quail, but it seems to have gone downhill in taste this time. Quail still good. But the fish was very overcooked and not very fresh, and the Camp-fire beef also not very fresh. Also the pricing is getting a bit expensive in comparison to other selections in the area.
This is a surprisingly busy restaurant. Do not be fooled by the humble exterior appearance. There were two memorable aspects of this eatery, they make an unbelievable ice coffee and the service was really slow. The food was good and inexpensive but unfortunately being impatient, the service let it down.
Reasonable price, but the quality really soso, i have ordered the pork chop rice and avocado smoothie, pork chop is too dry and hard, rice is using cheap old rice therefore the texture is not soft, avocado smoothie is too milky, too much milk in it which covered the avocado, in general not recommended
We are here almost every weekend. And sometimes I wonder why so little people come to this restaurant given how good the food generally is. We mainly come for the live silver perch and the pawpaw salad. The only thing that could be improved is the salted fish fried rice and the meat used for the pho.
If you want authentic Vietnamese cuisine, then this restaurant is for you. Ask for the sweet and sour soup 'canh chua ca kho to' and choose a live barramundi or silver perch from the tank. It will take you back to Vn for under $100. Saving you a ticket from Jetstar or Vietnam airlines.
Food is okay, tasty but not excellent, and the price is quite expensive. Family friendly place.

A place that rarely dissapoints in Southern Vietnamese cuisine. Service is good, but food is better! Papaya salad and 2 course fish are a must here. Salt and butter pork chop are one of the best dishes! A lot of dishes on the menu so naturally some are hit or miss, choose carefully!
I had the fried chicken with tomato rice for dinner today. The price was reasonable and it was very quick for the meal to come out. The place is very clean. I highly recommend trying out this place. 23/6/19 I had the stir fried combination noodle $15.50 for lunch today very nice.
Oh my canh. The taste of food is amazing and magnetic. No grease. Light refreshing taste of vietnamese food. I had silver perch soup set and lotus prawn salad, vietnamese spring roll and some green steam veggies. All topped in terms of its taste. Deffinately go again place.
Reasonable price but do not worth it. Order crispy chicken tomato rice, rice got three different Colour, red orange and white, looks like they don’t have enough rice and simply mix them together, looks dry not fresh enough.

Gorgeous Vietnamese restaurant. We used to live very close by and loved dining in here every time. I highly recommend the savoury pancake or soft shell crab. We ate our way through almost the entire menu and were unable to find a dish we didn't enjoy.
The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly. I really look forward to coming here every time. Thank you

Have been eating at this restaurant for ~20 years. Far from fancy however the food is consistently good, particularly the "salt & pepper" dishes - prawns, squid etc. Tamarind prawns and roll your own rice paper rolls are also recommended.
We only went by reviews I spent my birthday with family and friends had the most amazing experience from service and amazing Vietnamese cuisine. Extremely well priced and food amazing Highly recommend ❣️ …
My Canh serves great authentic vietnamese food. The salt and pepper pork is very tasty and I always enjoy the sour soup (canh chua) with fish and veggies. The ingredients are fresh and the flavours reminds me of my mother's cooking.
Oldie but goodie. Traditional vietnamese restaurant serving delicious dishes. Always enjoying the tamarind sauce chicken and seafood dish as I cannot find it anywhere else. I have found the food isn’t always consistent though …
If you like sour fresh fish soup. Canh chua cá. Thís is the place.

Absolutely delicious! Just like mum makes (maybe a little bit better but don't tell her), service was incredibly polite and friendly. We've been here twice and will keep coming back, thank you for a fantastic dinner :)
This place is great, friendly staff and food is very fresh. Not everything on the extensive menu is a hit, however their noodle soups are great and their pho is better than the more popular pho an next door. Try it!

Awesome variety including raw beef salad which is rare and I love. Other items are great too. They open til late and I can always rely on here to get takeaway just before close at 11
Soup of the pho has too much msg flavour in it. Sour fish soup has a weird sweet taste which im not a big fan of. If the menu has too many items, normally none of them is very good.
Great place to experience food from the mekong delta, 2 course fish is one of the best meals to have. Owners are incredibly welcoming, I felt very much at home here. A must try!
Really nice food! Awesome staff. Very attentive. Beef and Chicken Pho soups are wonderful at this place. Very filling and top of that provide an authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
First time going here. Unfortunately the last time as the place had an unpleasant smell and food lacked flavour. The drinks was the only thing good. Very disappointed.
Excellent attentive staff, very accomodatng to kids. Food was authentic and delicious.

One of my favourites in the area, with a wide variety of Viet options - single portions or large family share style food. A nice take on mum's good home cooking.
The ambiance is very welcoming and charming, the food is delicious and well served. I recommend to everyone and would love to come here over and over again.
If you are missing home, missing the motherly home cook food, then this place is it. Traditional vietnamese sweet and sour soup with fish is my favourite!

Excellent food the best in Bankstown city we have been going to this restaurant for Years and never been disappointed
My favourite vietnamese place to go! It's always fresh & the staff are so friendly. The food is so delicious!!!
Very rude. Very bad service. They were rushing us to order and we have only been sitting down for 3 minutes.
We went there around March this year and was very happy with the service as well as the quality of the food.
The food is authentic. It is accessible to public. The serving is ample and the staff are very friendly.
Always love going there, never been let down, amazing food - thank you mum! Keep it up guys.
worst pho ever, we got rare noodle and beef for takeaway foods, can't even eat, shiiiiiit
