I went here for fathers day, with of course my father. The diner was packed, which I expected as its a small diner, with half restricted to 21+. The service was awful, and the server was very rude for no apparent reason. He told us to sit anywhere clean, but there was no seats available so we just stood and waited, and had to take a spot that was still dirty due us not wanting to loose it to the line. We waited 10-15 minutes just for the dishes to be cleared and to get menus with napkins and silverware. Then after ordering we wait 50-60 minutes for our food, and when I asked 50 minutes in what the wait was looking like I got a snarky "50 minutes, because its packed on fathers day" in a very rude and dismissive tone. This was for two simple plates. I would understand this length of wait for a large chain diner, with hundreds of guests but there was maybe 30 on our side of the diner, and the kitchen had many chefs all working quickly. In the end, my food was cold, and undercooked. I love this diner, the food is good and cozy and I have gone many times with both my family, and close friends and I have never been so rudely treated especially in a diner with many waiters working, so it wasn't like someone was stretched to thin. I think it will be a while before I come back.

Had a terrible experience here. We went to this place for late night food (arrived ~1:30am after a Saturday night) and asked the server if we could still sit down for food. They said yes and took our order and also a card to start the tab. They told us the kitchen was only serving fried food at this time so we ordered fries, chicken strips, and mozzarella sticks. Before the food came out they charged the credit card and brought us the check. They told us that they were closing soon (they close at 2:30am) so they already packed our food in to-go boxes. It took an hour for us to get our food and when it finally arrived at ~2:25am and we started to eat, they told us we needed to leave. This happened to multiple other customers. One table near us didn’t even get their food (they also already paid) and the staff told them they had to wait outside for their food. I understand the kitchen can get busy, but please do not take our order and charge our card in advance. If they would have told us how long the wait was or let us know that the kitchen was closing/ busy beforehand we wouldn’t have ordered in the first place. They charged our card right after we ordered so we decided to wait for the food. We will never come back.

I give this place 4 stars but my bf gives it 5 stars, so I'll average and round up. We were going to Rinella Produce and wanted to grab brunch before we picked up our groceries. Saw that this place was nearby with a lot of high reviews so decided to check it out. Prices were more than fair, portions were huge, in a dark lit setting with no minors allows coupled with great attentive service - this place easily stole our hearts. It's unappealing on the outside but pretty big on the inside. It has slots, pinball machine, and pool tables. I had the rib eye and eggs with O'Briens. My bf had the corn beef and hash and his dish was packed with so much flavor and good chunk of the corned beef. The biscuits was recommended and it literally is so soft and melts in your mouth. My bf ended up getting their day drink cocktail and his drink was strong (in a very good way of course). Parking is easy to find, not sure if it it'd be as easy in the evening. This felt like a hole in the wall and we enjoyed it so much. Just our type of atmosphere. Extensive brunch menu. Will definitely be back.

Pre-pandemenic, many Portland restaurants offered Reuben sandwiches but most have now closed or no longer offer it, but MFP never stopped having the Reuben on their menu. With the above being said, I ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries $13.25, coffee $2.75. The Reuben was generously heaped with corned beef, sauerkraut and just enough Thousand Island dressing to balance out the sandwich. The fries were crispy and the coffee hot. It's a wonderful old school Portland restaurant and bar with great food and strong affordable drinks. The wait staff are friendly and hard-working. It can get really busy for breakfast and lunch, so be patient and bring something to read, or better yet, order a beer or cocktail while you wait for your meal.

Its a great bar till the old lady bar tends, she just has attitude and bad vibes for no reason at all. She's the only one with gray hair so you'll know who I'm talking about be patient with that one. Update, I tried giving them another try and yet first thing that happens when I get in this a woman tries to tell me something in a loud environment, I did walk in with headphones on but I took them off and paused my music to make sure to hear what she said. I asked her to speak up politely as I am hard hearing and I understand from speaking up to talking back with an attitude, I didn't choose to be hard hearing I just am, she told me she was going to take awhile as in she is not ready for me, I sat down and politely waiting already having my Id in hand and yet the audacity she had to demand me to be ready with my ID while she was not ready to take my order as a bartender. I strongly dislike this place and will never return again

New bartender- to me. I come here every week at all hours for food and beverage. I watch the bar serve someone, tell me the kitchen is closed, I point out that they served someone and the response was “oh that was 30 seconds ago” as in implying that was not how long it took me to ask for last call. He also exited the bar as soon as he saw me walk up; leaving me no time to even attempt a last call. Service here is usually consistent and great, however, given the holiday, I guess it’s okay to not complete the line? I also saw a plate of food delivered as I was walking out, showing that kitchen was still present on-site. Really love to be discounted by a staff member who is the “regular” bartender. As one of the many regular customers on opposite days, it seems that the kitchen is still capable, whether they prefer to be or not, until 2:30.

Of course downtown Portland lost that certain charm. However for the few businesses left this place hands down somehow maintained it's vintage Portland charm and delivers it with comfort food and it brings your taste buds back to the good restaurants or diners. The people who are working seem down to earth and like to have conversations with you and it's freshly needed during these times. I'm impressed by the food definitely. But if I can recommend anything it's just one. Flatware you have is extremely dull and needs updated. Other than that.. I'm coming back for sure

My favorite “old Portland” restaurant/ dinner. The staff are great, awesome “americana” classic food. Looking for something kinda dingy with a great vibe? Bloody Mary’s ? A plate full of non healthy food? This is the place. It’s got that old Portland attitude all across the board. It’s lovely. Tons of breakfast options- eggs Benedict, omelettes, breakfast steaks, and so much more. Great lunch options too. Full bar although we typically stick to Bloody Mary’s.

This one's funny because my 18 year old nephew and I finished a whole house move that ended at 1030pm in Vancouver and we were staving, everything else was close to or closed already and this spot is open late and the menu and pictures all the kind you want to eat - home style, breakfast served all day type food, just what we wanted. So we sat down and made our decision and was ready to order, the three very nice waiter asked for I.D., my youngin'was under 21 and PDX don't serve over 21 after 1030pm regardless if I was over, they just can't, so we had to leave. I was going to get the full-stack and some, what a bummer. Now I know! 5 stars for the visual and selection, service and atmosphere!!

Wow! We loved it. It looked like you'd pay $30-$40 per meal. It wasn't like that at all. The service was some of the best I've had in recent memory. The staff was engaging and informative. We were there last Saturday at lunch and there were so many people waiting for seating. We were surprised we were told 10-15 minutes. We thought it would be much longer. It wasn't. They clearly are a well oiled machine and it's refreshing to see in this day and age of labor shortages. It led me to believe the staff is treated well. The food is outstanding! 100 out of 100!

I love this places atmosphere and I would go back except.. there was definitely some lack of communication.. I had only ate a little less than half of my BLT and fries, I asked for a box from 3 separate servers. Then after paying and still sitting waiting patiently for a box, another server came back and grabbed the sandwich before I could say anything and threw it away. It feels like such a waste of food and it was a big waste of money. I’m super bummed and wish I would’ve said something in person but i was kind of shocked as a server myself.

One of my favorite go to dives in the Portland area. The bartenders are always great. The vibe is good. The bar is basically split into two and one side is more seating for ordering food. The food is pretty decent but the wait for food is typically pretty long. Definitely the bar after the bar spot.

What can I say? It's a bar that serves food. Drinks were not very light on the alcohol. The table was kind of sticky. The price is matched the description of the food but the food that came to the table did not at all match the description. We spent too much. Didn't enjoy the food. All that being said, the atmosphere was amazing. Great music, happy people. Good juju just go there to drink, not eat and if you're drinking maybe go later in the day so that you don't get watered down drinks. Enjoy!

Every time I've gone here, I've LOVED the atmosphere. But, the bartenders have been just AWFUL!! HORRIBLE attitudes, and extremely rude. I don't normally feel the need to respond to poor servers directly. I feel like a review will usually suffice. But, with more than one of these terrible bartenders, I have felt the need to say something directly to them even in front of everyone there at the time! Makes me question whether I'll go there again at all.

My Father's Place was on our dive bar bucket list so we stopped by recently for lunch while in the neighborhood. Very expansive menu. No GF options but I had pulled pork w/out a bun and it was better than I'd hoped. The bartender was pleasant and efficient. Drinks were well endowed and nicely priced. Looking forward to a 2nd visit in the evening to check out the vibes when the place is hopping!

If you enjoy a friendly dive, this place is for you. The cost has gone up and is no longer ultra cheap. Expect to spend an average of $20-25 per person for dinner and a beer. In my case, burger tots and cider or spaghetti salad and beer. It has games, pinball, and pool tables. It was odd decoration hanging from the ceiling. The dinner meal has been inconsistent the past few months.

Went here for the first time to try their chicken fried steak. The plate of food was huge and was enough for two people. Gravy was really good but unfortunately the chicken fried steak was not homemade. You could tell it was frozen and bought from a restaurant supply store. Tasted almost like a breaded Salisbury steak from a cheep tv dinner. If you’re not a chicken fried steak aficionado then you would probably love this dish because everything else on the plate was good.

Heard great things about this place. I came here for my birthday seemed great. Ordered drinks and food. I ordered a strawberry margarita and I don't know what it was but it wasn't a strawberry margarita. I wasn't going complain But while I was in the ladies room my husband did for me and they apparently thought we just wanted a few rree drink. Which was not the case. We asked for our bill and they charged us for our drinks which is fineish I think the Margarita should have been at least 50%off but they also charged us for our food that we never received. Bummed out birthday girl.

Ask for food recommendations and tell them you don’t eat meat, they’ll tell you bacon and burgers are the best. Ask for a half pint get and pay for a pint … ask if you can get it to go… told no. Just an inquiry to make sure you don’t break the rules. Transfer your beer to a non glass cup, have someone yank your glass out of your hand, accuse you of something you’re not doing…pour it back into your used glass and accuse you of trying to do something illegal. You can keep the bacon and the fake bartenders cuz they only show up for the paycheck

Probably my favorite bar I've ever been to. Was in town for a concert and went here after with a friend. I'm not going to leave my water bottle outside and hope its there when I get out, my dog would be pissed at me if I lost it at 12:30 at night. Kinda stinks profiling is huge in Portland. You would think differently but oh well. Yr loss i tip really well.

I can't remember the name of my dish but it was like hashbrowns with fried chicken and gravy on top for $15.75. I ordered with toast but my server made an excellent recommendation that I get it with the biscuit. Best breakfast I've had in months.

Great pinball selection and cool classic vibes. Also, there's a good home style vegan spaghetti option if you ask for it. There's 10 pinball machines and the drinks are priced right and poured stiff. Food is alright overall, nothing special but the biscuits and gravy are delicious. Would give 4 stars except that ironically despite it having the most "at home" feeling name you could give a restaurant, I was asked to leave after sitting there for a while after I finished and paid, and it was not busy at all when I was. The greatest dive bar in Portland - cheapest drinks and food in town, prompt and helpful bartenders, warm and welcoming dining area with brick walls and dim shaded lamps hanging from chains above each leather booth. Thank goodness this bar is just outside of walking distance from my house because if I could walk here, I would be here all the time. Plus, they'll make you a baked potato. I love a good dive bar with baked potatoes.

Old fashioned diner with a bar on one side serving breakfast and lunch. Excellent and attentive service. Got our food within a reasonable time and were checked on multiple times. The outside is fairly nondescript so it is easy to miss. Recommend this place over some of the pricier spots if you are looking for a quick and filling meal in a modest setting.

Delicious burger and french dip, but the cocktail menu could use a bit more variety. I got a hot coffee drink and it was good, but it would have been better iced and blended!

Great food. Great atmosphere. And even better service! Our server was very accommodating during our time here. My friend and I had the soup of the day which was really good—made me feel like I was back home.

Another great Portland diner if you love the classics. They have an option to have pancakes as your bread, I am going to have to come back and do that.

Solid classic breakfast with a fun atmosphere . We stopped by before going to a broad game sale and this restaurant supplied the right kind of food for the venture. The breakfast is great but I can’t wait to go back and experience this place at night. Bonus, they provide evening delights via vending machines in the bathrooms …

It’s a diner that brings me back into my home state of Oklahoma each and every time I visit, but in the best way possible. In terms of coziness it’s stellar. I haven’t been there during any evening events, but soon. I get the eggs benny 90% of the time and it never misses.

The most disappointing meal I've had in Portland. The meat was way overdone and the veggies were obviously frozen veggies. Service was slow but the server was friendly. You get what you pay for.

The Corn Beef Hashbrowns are actually just country potatoes. They serve the plate in about 2 minutes, which is cool but that also means nothing besides the egg is cooked fresh. For $17.75+tip, I’d like the potatoes to at least have seasoning.

My Father's Place is an iconic Portland institution. I went there this morning and they looked pretty covid safe with the table-spacing and machine cleaning... My food was on point, my drinks were fine... Service was a pretty slow considering how dead it was, but they were just opening up for the day.

It was my first time there. I had the roast beef sandwich, and it was great. Micro brews good price, too. I will be back!

Fun drinks and good food. Really nice atmosphere. There was a board game night being hosted when we went so it was pretty busy. There’s also a Photo Booth in the restaurant which was a fun way to end the night.

I spoke with a manger name Sara and just was so mean and outrageously rude! I ask to speak with a manger about food service and she said I can’t speak to a manager because they too busy to speak. How outrageous is this! I will never come

Comfy bar with above average diner/comfort food. Seating is mostly diner style. Atmosphere is so relaxed I almost wanna take a nap in there. Probably not allowed but I bet theyd be nice about it. Bar doesnt have a bunch of TV screens. I

Everything that you might expect from a place "my father's place". They have got a jukebox, food with lots of calories for a reasonable price, half shadow atmosphere. Signature chicken breakfast was good, even I don't like hash browns.

  • N F

Really pleased with the country breakfast, & chicken fried steak; large portions, decent coffee. Nice feel to the place, pleasant staff, clean toilets, & the adjacent bar was very inviting!

  • Taylor Donarski

I love this place. I never mind waiting because it's expected that they're busy. I don't think I've ever gone when there's not at least 3-5 full tables of people and a full bar.

  • Georgia Meltzer

Gross spongey, tough/chewy (not cakey) pancakes (like the kind that come frozen that you microwave––if you want Perfect cakey pancakes, go to Shari's or Biscuits Cafe).

Your quintessential greasy spoon. Open late, breakfast all day (or all night!) solid but simple bar, good drafts, and some interesting house infusions.
