This park is actually the grounds of Brisbane’s oldest home Newstead House (1846) but it’s a gracious and breezy riverside location for a picnic on the lawn or gathering in the old rotunda by the jetty. It also happens to have been designed by Harry Moore, the early 20th century parks superintendent responsible for much of Brisbane’s distinctive style of vegetation, who lived in Newstead House during his tenure. For children there’s an Alice Through the Looking Glass themed play area in a hollow behind the house, with a talking tree and interactive chessboard and plenty of garden for hide’n’seek. Interestingly, several of the trees in the park predate the plantings by Moore. For instance, the White Rabbit tree is a rare specimen of a crepe myrtle which was planted at the time the house was built. And, unmissable near the driveway entrance, is the talking history tree, a magnificent hollowed out Cunningham fig believed to be 200 years old.
This is a gorgeous park on the river front right next to the bridge over Breakfast Creek and in front of the historic Newstead House. It's tucked away, with lots of private and quiet spots to contemplate, read a book, picnic, or just chill out. It has fantastic views and being elevated next to the river it catches plenty of breezes. There are many shady trees where you can escape the sun and there is nice lawn to lay on, as well as benches throughout. There is a beautiful rotunda set high up on the slope, where you can take in wide views. It never seems busy like many other parks on the river. If you park your car on the Bunnings side of the road, you can get to the park via a walkway under the bridge.
The breeze from the Brisbane river is divine. Plenty of dests and a couple of tables. No barbques that I can see. Renovations to Newstead House Nov 22. Bathrooms near house on ring road. Small amount of parking along ring road. There is a jetty where ppl fish. Some beautiful trees and shrubs. Lots of green grass. War memorials are present. No children playground. Sloping landscape so no good for sporting antics. Even with Kingsford Smith Drive not far away, you hear more breeze than car sounds. The breeze is truly fabulous. People are reading books, having picnics, laying in the shade nodding off to sleep and a casual walk.
This is a well kept park beside the Brisbane River and Breakfast Creek. It contains lots of seating, public toilets, but only a little in the way of picnic facilities. However, there is lots of lawn on which to put down a blanket in either sunshine or shade. Pigeons and ibises (bin chickens) are on hand to share your meal. Two hour parking is available along the entry road unless a function has stolen it all. There are two disabled parking spots also.
Newstead Park is a timeless and amazing place. This ancient part of the river brings fresh breezes from the bay that travel and bend up the river. A great place to sit on the grass and watch the world go by... the clouds go by....and again the boats go by ....then walk around this ancient landscape.... The refurbishment is now completed.
Very pretty park, has beautiful views of the river and the river walk to it is nice. 10/10 picnic spot, and not too busy.
Restrooms
They are kind of hidden and behind the newstead house, walk past the rotunda and the mirror and up the hill and you will find them.
Frantastic views down the river. Great place for place for a romantic picnic. We picked up takeaway one night and had dinner at the tables, after we for a walk along the river. Would also be great just to lie on the grass, relax and watch the river traffic.
Pretty location with some parking. Well maintained walking paths along the Brisbane River. Lovely gazebo, pretty gardens. Outdoor picnic tables and seating scattered. Newstead House currently under renovations. NEGATIVE Not enough undercover seating.
Beautiful park in a prime spot. The one downside is the traffic noise from Kingsford Smith Drive, but barring that it's one of my fave inner city parks. Plenty of street parking and close proximity to public transport.
Great views of the river, nice to include it as part of a walk along the river from New Farm park. Road noise at Newstead still makes New Farm the best for a picnic if you want total tranquillity.
Beautiful place to have a weekend breakfast. Nice short walkway and amazing view of Brisbane River and the doked jet skis and motorboats. Best thing: pets are allowed at this park …
Home to Brisbane's earliest surviving residence, this stunning parkland not only offers a look at some of the city's most interesting history, but sweeping river views as well.
Nice quiet place to spend a day on the picnic rug, lots of benches and shaded areas, really good at sunset. In the middle of walking/cycling tracks to Hamilton or New Farm.
Top spot with awesome views. Plenty of room for picnics and parties. Easy walk to parking. Small shame about road noise from Kingsford Smith but what are you going to do!
Immaculate park and surrounds with plenty of smooth paths and heaps of old growth trees to provide shade. Lovely views up and down the river as well as Breakfast Creek.
Great place to relax and have fun. Lots of green areas to play around and play some soccer, frisbee, rugby and all sorts of games
Such a chilled out park, great place to walk the dog and take in some Brisbane history. It's a beautiful place to be at sunrise.
Lovely picnic destination. Weather wasn’t the best, but hardly the fault of the park. One of the best walks around Newstead
A nice picnic area where you can sit in the shade. A large variety of trees, lots of shade and lots of park seats/benches
Lovely quiet park. Lovely lawns and shady trees and a handy toilet. Can be a bit cool if the S.E. seabreeze kicks in
Lovely place for a Sunday afternoon. A lot of people are using the park for what it was intended; lovely.
Such a great place for a picnic, special occasion or relaxing walk. Gardens are beautiful and well kept.
Lovely park plenty of shade and seating. The toilets are a bit outdated and need a good clean
Great views of BNE suburbia, and CBD skyline. Park is well maintained, plus easy to access.
The newstead house terrace is uder renovation.I enjoy walking up to the baywalk board.
Public toilets are great, well kept paths for scooters, pedestrians and dog parents
Another great walk along the Riverside. No rubbish, clean, grass not too tall.
