I was amazed to see the beautiful, charming, well maintained, and super-clean park at the Glenmore reservoir on Elbow river in Calgary. Had I not visited, I would not have believed this is one of the largest, most popular, and best parks in Calgary which draws thousands of visitors, particularly, on weekends and holidays. The lush green mowed lawns, innumerable old and new trees, the humongous reservoir, natural forest area, and multitude of people engaged in various activities create an electrifying, exalting, and soothing atmosphere. The colossal park has lots of designated areas with fire pits and tables, view points, separate paved tracks for walking and cycling, children playgrounds - I saw two of them at different locations, washrooms, water fountains, tennis courts, uncountable magnificent views, benches to relax and enjoy the beautiful sceneries, and a great deal of parking lots - I came across parking lots marked A to R and one reserved for the canoe club members. Although there are numerous parking lots - at least 20 between the two contiguous - north Glenmore park and Weasel head park, on a busy day, it is challenging to find a spot at your preferred location. The parking area L, which is where the bigger and more equipped playground and the only cafeteria are located, usually gets full pretty soon. At the northern end, there is a boating club - Calgary Canoe and rowing club - where you may get a rental canoe and even learn techniques of safe boating. A sizable pair of piers supports a docking area that may be used by numerous boating enthusiasts, simultaneously. This is a must visit historical place if you visit or are in the beautiful city of Calgary. It, definitely, is a boon to Calgarians.
Playground
Two playgrounds with a lot of modern equipment. The one near parking area L is sizable and has latest equipment.
Restrooms
There are well-maintained, hygienic washrooms near the playgrounds and the canoe club building.
Dog-friendliness
Dogs are allowed provided that they are leashed.
Picnic area
Lots of picnic areas equipped with fire pits and tables.
South Glenmore Park encompasses the southern perimeter of the reservoir and incorporates the beautiful Weaselhead Natural Area. Within its bounds, visitors can find the renowned Variety Children's Park, an inclusive playground and water park designed to accommodate disabled children. Additionally, the park is home to the esteemed Glenmore Sailing School. In 2020, the Quinterra Legacy Garden Project was unveiled, featuring a harmonious blend of music, fresh foliage, green spaces, and a small multiuse stage for community events. Adjacent to the existing Variety Park, outdoor musical instruments add a delightful touch to this innovative garden. Furthermore, South Glenmore Park is undergoing a Caragana removal initiative to enhance the biodiversity of its native tree stands, promoting a healthier ecological balance.
We have been going there for the amazing round about skating path way! We have had really good weather the few times we have been there. There is lots of parking. There are fireplaces the ground keepers keep going, bringing fire wood every 20-35 minutes or so. Very friendly staff. The mini curling, and curling crockenou are fun for the kids. There is a hockey rink there as well for the Hockey buffs! There is a shelter to get out of the wind, and the park is very useable. So if you have kids this park will entertain them for hours. So far our average is about 2.5 to 4 hours and they never seen to want to leave! Its on the shores of the Glenmore Reservoir
Ideal place for family outing.Multiple playgrouds make it ideal for kids. This park has a lot of scenic places to take memorable photos. Also, there are barbecue ares that can be reserved by calling 311 in advance. This park also provides a big cycling track. This is a lovely place for a skate! There is a big loop that you can skate hand-in-hand around, there is a curling ice circle, and there's a little hockey rink with illuminated blue and red center line/end zones. As with any outdoor ice, there's some pits and a fair few bumps, but it's still very well maintained. It's extra ambient and "romantical" in the evening with all of the lights! I had a blast and highly recommend for a central skating location! I will go back for sure. There is cross country skiing in the park just a few parking lots down too. Merry Christmas 2022 to you and yours if you're reading this too!
My recent park visit, with a focus on biking, was a fantastic experience. Glenmore Park (North & South) offers a cyclist’s paradise with its well-paved trails and scenic routes. The combination of lush greenery with touches of fall colour and well-maintained paths made for an exhilarating ride. Whether you’re an avid cyclist or just looking for some outdoor adventure, Glenmore Park provides the perfect setting. I highly recommend bringing your bike and exploring this beautiful park for a day of two-wheeled fun and nature appreciation.
The park is great. We had been there the previous Saturday for a family picnic at the Chickadee site. We decided to go back the next Saturday to walk around the park. Close to the children's playground there was a large group that were playing amplified music so loudly we could still hear it almost to the end of our walk. There shouldn't need to be rules about this...it was SO disrespectful to all the people using the park outside this particular group. Probably won't go back here...at least not on the weekend.
Nice park. They have bbqs and some covered tables. Great for families or friends get togethers. Very nice area to run and enjoy nature as well. You can enjoy the view of the river. As you walk by you can read on signs about the different types of birds in the area and if you look closer you might even see those species. It is indeed a nice park. From time to time you will see police cars checking the area for safety, which is nice. The few times I have been there it has been clean and very well maintained.
Nice space by glenmore reservoir. Place was not crowded when we went so it was serene. Nice place to take a walk Cyclist are very stingy when they see people by the bicycle path.
Restrooms
Only portable toilets available. Would have given it 5 stars if it had better restrooms.
Picnic area
There are some table available. The area we are the tables are out in the open so we were not able to use them but brought our own table so we can be by the trees with shade.
One of most beautiful places to bike in the city with lovely views along the trail. The path goes through a dense section, lookout for cayotes there. Overall a good loop of around 16k from parking to parking. We had the bike path to almost ourselves on a weekend which added more fun. The pathway is easy to ride and you can stop at heritage park in between for a quick snack. Trail is well marked. Lot of parking spots available.
The Inclusive Playgound in North Glenmore Park is not shown on Google Maps accurately - it's located right at the Merlyn Picnic Site and is just awesome: full of fun and exciting features for kids' entertainment, while fir adults there are picnic tables with BBQ grills, and the shoreline cycling/walking trail is also nearby.

It was a perfect place for picnic and group gatherings. We booked a site for 30 ppl and we had fun. Not many people and the park is huge.

We walked the dog in the park.

Nice park that I've enjoyed over the years. Many parking choices that lead to paved trails or picnic areas some with firepits or barbecue stands. Today was wrong time of the season as it was mushy soft snow/ice or puddles. Was trying out the early season sun with the new solar oven. That's another story.
Picnic area
Was a .mess today. But otherwise nice layout by the trees.
It was the first time I was there. There are a number of parking spots along with play structures for children to play in. We went on a long weekend and the multiple parkings were overflowing. There is a nice walking trail, with the sun out and a cool breeze it was very pleasant and refreshing. I also saw people down by the water fishing. Don't forget your mosquito spray!!
What a great experience. Lots of parking, and a very good playground for kids. Love the coffee, ice cream booth they have built.
Playground
Playground was awesome, our grandkids love it, we spent 1 1/2 hours there.
Restrooms
Very close and clean.
Picnic area
Lots of tables, easy access. Great to be able to buy coffee, cookies, ice cream etc.
Great place to relax in nature! Playgrounds for children. A large parking area for cars stretches throughout the park. Barbecue area, grills for coal and firewood. Beautiful photos against the backdrop of the river, green grass and separate paths for bicycles and pedestrians. There are a lot of children and holidays on the weekends …
Very beautiful park. Clean open spaces with swing set area for kids. Places to hang out and make a fire or have a pick-nick. Nice spot to meditate and take on the views. As of June 2018, some big parts are closed off for construction and repaving of path. I am sure it will soon be better than ever! Would recommend a visit.
I love North Glen. I’ve run events there, gone in runs there, had a bunch of food there, gone on walks with friends, biked a ton, and even prayed there. It’s a nostalgic place for me and the beauty of the place even helped me during a very influential part of my life. Looking forward to visiting this place a lot more!
I was there just for about 15 minutes but I really enjoyed each moment there - it was evening time 6:45pm, sun was ready to set, cool breeze, fall effect. I don’t have enough word to narrate what I was feeling there. I was so involved in enjoying, I forgot to click picture which I don’t regret tbh.
Very nice spot with lot of space if you want to put a family team together and do some games, barbecue areas, nice chairs where u can sit and relax, a great view of the reservoir,u can go down to the water and do some fishing, bike paths around,u can catch a beautiful sunset if weather is great!!
One of my favorite park in the south area because its connected right to the wooded area behind the water reservoir. Walking the trail is great and well maintained plus it's quite long and can go for miles definitely a good walk with the family. Highly walking your dog here during the sunny days!
The Weaselhead and north Glenmore is such a wonderful getaway without leaving the city of Calgary. I can't say enough about it! And the rest of north Glenmore park and south Glenmore park have a great pathway system for both walking and biking. I thoroughly enjoy this part of our city.
I’ll rate the skating path to 4! It’s a long skating way but Was too bumpy and path was uneven. There’s benches and fireplace. What’s exciting is the lights during the night! Well lighted! So if you’re opt for a family bonding perfect place to be!
Great experience, lots of picnic sports, and bbq pits. Very nic view of Glenmore reservoir, cool air on Very hot day, kids play ground in many parking area throughout the long big b Park.
Picnic area
Lots of bbq pits, and banch allover park
Seriously, a gem! Great walking and biking paths. No swimming allowed. Kayaking, canoeing, sailing etc. Is allowed however - no air filled boats/kayaks allowed. Excellent bird watching opportunities and youth might see the odd deer too.
Park was great. Wish I knew about the other playgrounds when the big one was too busy for my sensitive little one... only thing I disliked was that there was no control over the rude people playing their religious music at top volume
I started participating in paracanoe and kayak racing this summer out of the Calgary Canoe Club located in North Glenmore Park and I love the location! It's so peaceful and pretty in the park itself and the canoe club is great! The
I was there for my wife and my daughter. They volunteered for the ethnic Thai dance show for the dragon boat festival. I really enjoyed the event. Highly recommend it. P.s: bring your camping gear for better and comfortable viewing.
For the past two years, we have attended the Remembrance Day ceremonies here at this park. It was well organized, and a lovely ceremony. Lots of parking, dog friendly and well executed. The addition of the live band is wonderful.
Great park for leisure activities, go with family, and enjoy BBQing or go by yourself and kayak/Canoo in the reservoir. Great opportunity to see a wide range of animals, including beavers and different kinds of birds.
Lots of parking. Multiple playgrounds including a nice new one with a small café next to it. Also has washrooms next to it. Separate walking a biking paths. Great views of the reservoir and great place for a walk.
This park is a place with great views! Good pathway to walk or biking. My boys love to use their scooter while I walk with my husband. There are plenty of benches to sit and rest while you appreciate the views.
A nice park for the whole family. Have picnic tables that can be reserved with BBQ and Fire Pits. Bike and walking paths. Tennis court, playground and lots of trees. Highly recommended …
That's awesome place to enjoy with family and friends. It has a long bike trail and huge grass ground Also, there are a couple of BBQ Sites but to use these, you have to make a book first.
This park is lovely. It has playground, restroom, fire pit and BBQ. I enjoyed the great view of the lake sitting sunset, sitting under the nice placed shed just beside the lake.
Amazing park and love the idea of ice skating rink. It has few fire pits and perfect for family! The ice skating is long but some part are uneven, rough and with a slope.
Nice park with a looping bike trail/walking trail. It has lots of parking area and table/grill to go picnic during summer months. Also a good place to check out sunset.
What a beauty ....even in this cold weather it looks so beautiful. Nice walk, no black ice! Can't believe if we compare it to the Glenmore of the summers. …
Beautiful place with good people managing the park. Have always enjoyed my time here with family and friends. Highly recommend to all visiting SW Calgary.
The park is amazing and absolutely gorgeous. The portable toilets definitely needs attention. We tried three different ones and they were all disgusting.
It's been a while I didn't go to this park. And the spring time always beautiful if you can get out there in late afternoon.
It's the first days of snow in Calgary, went here to accompany son on a fun run. Nice wide park overlooking the river.
Lovely time enjoying a beautiful day in the park. Great weather, something to do for everyone.
