This is such a popular spot with beautiful views but unfortunately the standards are very different. I called ahead on a Sat to book a table but the lady told me there's no need. Only to arrive & there is a long que in the sun which was a challenge with kids & a diabetic. The staff do try hard to assist but perhaps some shade will do the trick. We got to a table but had to wait for long periods for service, our table was never wiped after the previous people left, l ended up doing it myself with wipes. The baby chair was filthy & this was after the waiter cleaned it in front of me. Service was not pleasant or efficient, l kept having to send back orders ( adult milkshake instead of kiddies, still water instead of sparkling, rice instead of chips). The tomato sauce on the tables cooks in the sun & you can see the bubbles, it's fizzy. We were asked to share our table which we agreed to, but the other people were not told thet will be sharing so their reaction made the situation uncomfortable. The food was ok, I enjoyed the prawns however the chicken strips were dry & oily. This establishment needs to increase hygiene standards & the service even when busy. Consistency is key

Reviews on here speak volume, families and couples spread the buzz over, it doesn’t matter if they’re tourists hanging around off cruise ships or locals from “the city bowl”, as well Big Bay neighborhood, Table View area, aka Bloubergstrand. All good apparently. The view on Robben Island is spectacular, the interiors unique and staff plays its role in making the brand experience unforgettable. Yes, the place is unique but not everything is immaculate and perfect. Tables out, to name the most preferred for the view, also got view on the cars being parked right in front - most importantly parking through ie. in & out h24 - and right in the middle of your meal / drinks. Therefore, be prepared to get a table bakkie-view and smoggish set up, uncomfy benches as seats. Not to mention Ocean breeze comes with tons of seagulls landing next - on top - and down one’s table as soon as food being served speaking of which, not everything is soo tasty as it may appear. Let’s move inside? Well yeah, a few rooms available among which one next to the kitchen (also not really entertaining) another one way cooler even though closed at lunch of course (it’s a pub). In the end the so-called lovely small local house (Ons Huisie) turns to be a very complex small local world where the perfect combo matches with closing eyes more than watching sunsets & ocean. Worth seeing but. Big but, full stop.

I've been coming to this beach since I was a kid and kept wanting to try out this restaurant but never did. We also have had so many fond family memories at this beach but none at this restaurant. So this past Saturday, we made it our mission to finally try out Ons Huisie Restaurant and we really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. This restaurant is perfect for friends and family... young and old. The milkshakes were absolutely delicious and the food was so tasty... and so beautifully presented too! It was also so nice to enjoy a meal overlooking the ocean and with the fresh sea breeze. We then finished off our meal with the delicious Souskluitjies (definitely a first for me)... which was perfect, as the weather became cooler after lunch and it warmed me up nicely before we had to leave. The restaurant also is a playarea for the kids and the seating is outdoor bench seating, with umbrellas for the sun. The guy manager was very friendly and engaged with us while we were enjoying our meal. We will definitely pop by again to add some more fond memories of Ons Huisie to our list. We went to Onse Huisie last night to celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary. We ordered 2 pina colada cocktails - it tasted like coconut milk ☹️ for starters we had oysters that looked as if someone ate the insides already. For mains we ordered bobotie which was very tasty and 800 grams of ribs with mash. The mash was cold, the ribs were as tough as leather and cold and the worst I have ever tasted - I could not cut through the meat ☹️ the waitress called the manageress who apologised for the food and took it back to the kitchen. When she returned my husband finished his food already. They brought back the same tough cold ribs just on a clean plate. At first I said I will take it home but then changed my mind and left it there. We went home hungry and very disappointed. We used to go to Onse Huisie often but its gone down the drain and we will not return as it is a waste of good money ☹️

Embarassing Sunday lunch birthday. We were a party of 16 entertaining international tourists. The line fish (yellow tail) was very over cooked. The manager tried to excuse away the inedible fish. They replace the orders of line fish with a steak (we ordered medium rare and they delivered a seared on the outside and raw in the middle instead) and lemon and herb calamari (under done and glassy in the middle). The three orders of hake fish and chips were flavourless. The Cajun calamari was over salted. The service was slow and our drinks orders got forgotten on several occasions. The slap chips sides were very oily and mushy. The tomato sauce was sour probably from poor storage. The vegetarian crepes were mediocre. The herb white sauce was very ordinary. The gents toilet floors were wet and muddy. The indoor area of the restaurant was very noisy. The only 2 Good things : The phylo pastry Roast veg was tasty. The eisebein was good.

The restaurant has an amazing spot directly at the beach and you can watch beautiful sunsets in the evening. The children can play on the pretty playground right next to the outside seating area where they'll find various slides, a little bike track, a pirate boat jungle gym and even a smaller toddler slide. Most interesting for our kids: the tree in the middle of the playground which is perfect for climbing and having fun with the more natural materials. Some days and hours of the day, they haven have childminders on duty so that you can enjoy your food and drinks without worrying about the kids. There are baby changing facilities in the ladies' bathroom and they serve a kiddies menu, milkshakes and other sweet treats. We haven't always been lucky with our dishes - the steak was overcooked (ordered medium but got very well done) the pancakes were something completely else than expected and the vegetarian options are rather limited. Otherwise, it's a fun restaurant for the kids and a great place to show your guests from overseas.

My personal score on: *Service - The service is excellent. We didn't wait long to be seated even though it was very busy. The outside of the restaurant was full, but we still got a seat outside. *Atmosphere - The atmosphere was buzzing. We arrived at lunch time and everyone seemed to be having a good time. *Food - Seafood a must, I mean, you are sitting next to the ocean! They do have eisbein and ribs on their menu, but we went for the seafood. *Cleanliness - Not very clean on the floor, napkins and sweet wrappers. The wind was blowing a bit, so I guess it blew some of it off customers tables. *Kid friendly - Yes, they have a quaint little play place for the kids outside, they also have a 'kid monitor' on duty. Ons Huisie will definitely be seeing us again.

My wife and I decided to stop for lunch after taking the dogs for a walk on the beach. We could not have been more happy with our choice. The restaurant caters well for man's best friend, it takes a while to find parking, I was one of the fortunate ones to find a parking spot right away. We had ice cream from the local vendor while waiting around 40 minutes to get seated (we had 2 dogs with us which required a bit more planning). The food was great and I loved the beer special. The waiting staff was friendly and always available. The dogs each had a bowl of water served and their food came dog-friendly in a take away container without garnishing and chips - just the meat which we enjoyed during the course of our meal. The food was absolutely great and the best part was when we got the bill the price was much less than expected leaving enough room for a generous and very well deserved tip. I am sure the dogs enjoyed the outing as well

We had left another restaurant in the area due to the poor service and extreme cold of the restaurant and walked across the road to Onse Huisie, hoping they could serve us. We were warmly welcomed by the waiters and ushered into a warm restaurant very quickly. A manager even came to see us to hear about our experience at the other restaurant. Customer service at Onse Huisie far outshines the other restaurant! We ordered our food, which arrived in good time and was fresh and tasty! Good value for money too! The "other" restaurant in the area can't serve coffee when they are loadsheading, but Onse Huisie could... makes no sense. Will definitely be back again and again!

We had a wonderful evening at the venue, the staff is phenomenal, the food is delicious and the views to die for. The staff really makes you feel exceptional and they go out of their way to accommodate customers. My wife is a smoker and the evening we came to the restaurant it was very windy the staff accommodated the smokers by allowing them to enjoy a cigarette on the balcony that had shelter from the wind. This was highly appreciated and I'll recommend Ons Huisie because customers satisfaction is top on their mind, these days i can honestly say many restaurant can learn from this team. Historical house(Huisie) originally on the beach in small bay, now surrounded by the small bay car park. It has great views and there us always activity about. Pets are allowed on a leash. It is wheelchair accessible to some areas as well as the WC has its own wheelchair toilet. The menu offers many fish dishes, we felt it lacked tapas or small bites as the meals we saw were all full meals. It's great all day long with beautiful sunsets to view. Insite and out seating under umbrellas. Smoking only allowed outside the eating areas.

Great quality and value for money. The food is delicious and fresh and the staff is very accommodating. Friends of ours had a short visit to Cape Town, and we went to Ons Huisie. Unfortunately, we were still a bit too early for their lunch menu as our friends really wanted Fish and Calamari. We asked if it was a possibility, and they prepared it for us, no issues. We can say a lot about that since they didn't need to do it, but they did, and it just goes to show how wonderful everyone is there. The Small Bay platter is great value for money. The fish is fresh, and the Calamari is incredibly tasty. Service and food like that are what makes us return time after time!

We went for breakfast on 19/12. Hostess greeted us very friendly. We order refreshments,no problem. We ordered breakfast,once it arrived it was horrible. With the bacon Benedict the English muffin was still frozen,I couldn't cut it. The breakfast included the Benedict,a English breakfast,French toast and scrambled eggs and a pork sausage for my youngest. The food was ice cold. The eggs that was served to my husband and youngest was definitely rotten. When we complained,the manager went to inspect and told us that it might have been only the eggs served to us. The batch had been thrown out. Unfortunately for us,my daughter and husband struggled with upset stomachs the whole day!!! The place is dirty and a few people left because of it. Will most certainly not be returning!!

If you want to relax and have a good experience this is the place to be. It felt like I could travel back in time with the most beautiful old photos of the building and area of days gone by on the walls. The food is five star and the staff is well trained and friendly. Always great service with a personal touch. Thank you guys EDIT... Possibly just experienced the worst ever service at your restaurant. What a pity that management has zero interest in their customers. We were treated to chipped wine glasses. Both glasses. No Tabasco sauce available for oysters. No Black pepper either,the waiter had trouble finding some. We asked the neighbouring table to use their salt as the waiter was MIA. Had to ask for serviettes. Half an hour after our main meal (the fish was good, vegetables were served cold) we found our waiter to ask to clear the table and provide our bill. To have such a beautiful venue and such terrible service makes no sense. Jack it up guys.

This place has historic value but it’s not leveraged. It was terrible weather so we could not sit outside. We were directed into the annex which has limited views of the sea. The place felt cold only the breakfast was colder. The bacon looked like it was boiled and so unappetising that I didn’t even have a nibble of it. The service was, take it leave it. It was embarrassing for me as I took someone who had never been there before and I spoke up the place as I had gone to this establishment for dinner several times in years gone by. I’m guessing that the owners or managers had changed some then.

We have always had great wholesome food here. Had a staff function this time and the staff managed it very well. Turnaround time on the food was a little slow but it was worth the wait. I’ve been coming here for many years, even on holidays back to SA whilst living abroad for a decade. They’ve paved the entire outside area. That aside, not much has changed. Good food in hearty portions, good wine list, extraordinary location and perfectly reasonable prices. It is so good to have a spot nearby that has stuck to this formula, kept their locals, and not sold out to milking the tourists with remarkable views and wholly unremarkable fare at exorbitant pricing.

Ones Huisie never disappoints and is always the go-to restaurant after a day spent at Bloubergstrand. The hake and chips is a very big portion so be prepared! Our son absolutely loved the burger and fries and he’s notoriously picky! The play area is within sight of most of the outdoor seating allowing parents to enjoy their meal with peace of mind. They’re also dog friendly for well behaved dogs on leashes.

Any closer to the ocean, and you're in it! Wow, what an awesome restaurant. Perfect location. Absolutely perfect! Atmosphere is second to none. Staff are unbelievably friendly. The establishment is pet-friendly, and it really is. They make such a fuss. Thank you guys! Needless to say, the food was perfect. First time dining here after several drive-bys and us turning away as it seemed so busy and the parking is always full. Well worth the anticipation! When the weather is good, weekend's and holidays the place is very popular and parking can be tight.

Mighty average. The best part is the views and the location. Right next to the ocean with lots of seating underneath the shady umbrellas. The problem comes with the service. We were served our coffee and lattes then the server disappeared for over 45 minutes. We asked for an update on food and one plate came out cold and the omelette with runny eggs. The manager was able to rectify the situation so hopefully this is an isolated incident.

Our second time visiting Ons Huisie, and once again were pleased with really good service, arguably some of the best seafood dishes in the area and of course the charming and ever gorgeous to look at venue. Hands down best dish is the West Coast Seafood Curry Pot.

Not truly dog friendly. Spoke to a guy who seemed like the owner or manager and they would not allow a dog inside despite cape town having its worst storms in years and my dog, a small 4kg poodle who I explained will stay inside her dog bag. South Africa can really learn about being dog friendly from first world european countries where even large dogs are allowed inside restaurants, clothing stores and public transport.

We watched the RWC final here and it was amazing, such a lovely restaurant with delicious food. One thing that really stood out was the staff being a team, everyone helping each other. Our waitress for most of the night was Merryl (sorry if the spelling is wrong) and she was amazing! She is so attentive and was on the ball the entire night! Really a must visit

Love this restaurant. Always full when we are there. The setting is perfect right on the beach. Chips are homemade, thank you guys for this! The icebine always a winner, enough food for 2. Their seafood also very good. Our waiter we had the last time were extremely good, more a mature guy and know how to do his job extremely well. Phoned about 2 weeks ago to make reservations to sit outside with our dogs for Christmas day, and was told that I wouldn't need to as the outside tables can't be booked and that they would accept walk ins on the day. Stopped there today and was told all the outside tables were fully booked. How can tables that were not up for booking 2 weeks ago suddenly be fully booked?

They made it special for us and was very accommodating. The waiter Cavan was very friendly and very informative. We also want to thank the chef for accommodating us so early on our last day in Cape Town.

Another restaurant in Blouberg with amazing food, views and service! We tried Ons Huisie for the first time and it will definitely be one of our regular go to's. The seafood curry was absolutely fantastic - so fresh and so much flavor. The waiter was very friendly and the manageress made her rounds to make sure that everyone was happy. We enjoyed the meal and the view thoroughly!

Perfection! I ordered the Cajun style calamari and my wife had the pan fried calamari. Both plates had generous portions and the food was perfect. The staff are polite and their knowledge of the menu is spot on. The views cannot be ignored, being a stone's throw from the beach. Overall, highly recommended.

Very popular restaurant overlooking the sea. There are tables inside as well. One can "feel the history" inside the building. The original building dates back to the late 1800's. The food and servivice were top notch. The weather was great, so the outside tables filled up quickly, but this didn't effect the service levels....consistently great.

Normally this place would definitely be a 5. Yesterday was disappointing. Ordered the uncollected mail. Tasted more like a toasted wrap than the nice thin crispy phyllo pastry. Carrots were hard. Overall disappointed, even the service wasn't as it usually is. But, I'll definitely be back.

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE AMAZING EXPERIENCE! This has to be one of my favorite restaurants on Earth! The view is amazing the food is amazing and the staff is super friendly! I would highly recommend this restaurant to any and everyone i know. The restaurant has this amazing feel of a small fisherman's cottage, its truly something to behold

Awesome venue, spacious outdoor seating and deliciously affordable fresh dishes. Wide variety and super efficient staff..tho they get quite busy lunchtime, we didn't wait long for our food. Generous portions served. Good covid protocols in place. Only complaint is that clientele dogs were not on a leash..as per signs posted.

A very special place used to come with my late parents. Very quality. Just wonderful to sit and watch sea in all its glory while having a drink and something to eat. Staff very good friendly.

The food deserves a 1 star, at best. The coffee is also super average! Didn’t finish either. However, the scenery and setting is obviously phenomenal hence the bump up in rating. Don’t eat here - maybe get a drink only and enjoy the view.

Very nice views from outside tables. Just note, on weekends thie place is packed, so either book a table or be prepared to stand in a line! Luckily the line is not moving too slow so not to bad if you end up in the line. We got the feeling that the waiters were not enough, hopefully if was just the weekend we visited.

I've enjoyed dinner at many places but have never had such friendly waiters and hostesses. The food was also top notch and we didn't wait long at all. The atmosphere was energetic with everyone enjoying each other's company.

Amazing food, Amazing service. Our waitress, Zazu, was fantastic. Not the best atmosphere, but then again you are there for the beautiful sunset over Roben Island, and actually being able to hear your friends and family is rather nice. Worth it!!

This is a very quaint traditional South African restaurant. I seem to end up here every time I come to Cape Town. It's first rate! Mike and his team still serve the "best prawns on the world"!! Back yet again (5th time!) and the prawns are still SO lovely! I'll be back again if I get the chance!!!

Really great location right on the beach front. Food was amazing and beers were cold. Some live performances from street performers for entertainment at times too. Definitely worth a visit but make sure you go on a weekday as weekends can get really busy.
