Oxleas Wood is a lovely spot for exploring with various routes for walking, as well as linking up to official routes like the Green Chain walk. The paths are a mix of whether they are wide enough for 2m social distancing but there's very often secondary paths or you can easily stand aside of course. There's a range of dog-walkers and regular walkers out and about but often cyclists too and randomly, I even someone riding a horse once. There is also a cafe on the edge of the wood which I think is serving some things but I've not ventured up there.
Cafe, where a well-deserved cuppa and cake or meal can be enjoyed after a stroll in the surrounding woods or gardens. Great place for children to run and let off steam and your furry friend to have a great walk. Meet other people with similar interests, i.e., doggy walking or children playing. They have also got an outdoor gym near the cafe. So, there is no excuse for not getting enough exercise in the fresh air. Bus stops nearby, just a small walk to the cafe. And car parking space. Toilets next to the cafe, Accessible by Ramps as is the cafe.
Oxleas Woodlands and Meadows one of the largest local nature reserves in London. It’s a nice place to go for a walk and get some fresh air that we can get quite muddy in the woods so definitely bring your wellies with you. There is a café on site where you can get coffee and snacks. There is also an outdoor gym next to the café. Toilets are located in a café, but it needs an update. Parking is quite limited, but you can also park along Rochester Way where there is an entrance to the Woodlands. We had a enjoyable walk.
Lovely and peaceful! Been here many times and always an enjoyable walk. Many people come here to walk their dogs but with the size of the woods, it's still relatively quiet and no one about. The cafe is really nice with tasty food and friendly staff. Definitely recommend. Big car park with free parking. The only con is that there used to be a fair few log swings about but someone seems to be removing them which is a shame as the kids loved it.
Big , lovely woodland, nice during every season, you can get list and disconnect from the world. Many paths, open fields and hills. There are two Caffès: one in Sevendrog Castle ( weekends) and other one on the top of the hill. Toilets are also there. It's great to have this place on the door step.
Restrooms
Public, haven't been inside.
Dog-friendliness
Water for dogs available outside the hill Caffè and at the castle.
Great spot to take your dog for a shady walk. There is woodland and a huge open field on a hill great for tiring the dogs out on a good run. A cafe with public toilets attached and a water fountain close by for humans and dogs. Lots of interesting sights and sounds and sniffs.
Restrooms
Toilets directly outside the cafe
Dog-friendliness
Really dog friendly apart from in the cafe space where dogs are not allowed
Lockdown 2.0 haven n space to use, not far from Herbert Road where I live, family and dog friendly, never seen so much dogs lol, it's got a cafe as well that's still open to the public for your teas and coffees ☕ sandwiches etc nice place to chill, read, take a walk ♂️ dog walk , fill your lungs with much needed oxygen …
Nice little walk for the dogs. Good place to take pics. Can be muddy in places Nice cafe with delicious hot chocolate If you park near the high hill with the cafe, turn right at the cafe and walk through the forest, eventually you'll hit the gardens with benches then come out where the old turret style house is. Very nice!
We really under utilise this place, its a gem. We are already geared up for winter to take our son for walks here. There are several ways to enter but we usually park off Rochester and walk through the woods first get rewarded by getting to the cafe for whatever treats are on offer. Very tranquill and very very good views.
Great place to unwind with picturesque views of the SE London skyline. The cafe is a brilliant accompaniment to the views. The food is excellent. I recommend the cake. You will need cash as card is not accepted. Toilets are also located here. There is a green gym to exercise and various walks. It ia a dog friendly park.
Even on a dreary autumn November day getting out for my "mental health walk" is important and its great to explore Oxleas wood and other fields and woods that are adjacent to it. There is a cafe at the top of the hill, so you can sit on a bench, sip a coffee and watch the world go past; a welcome moment of peace.
I couldn't expect to find a wood just by the city like that. It's massive and has a meadow on a hill, woods, a cafe with toilets, various car parkings, a small hidden pond, weird tree swings, a path for horses and the road divides it from Eltham north park, too!!! Amazing time with my family!
A wonderful ancient woodland with parts dating back over 8,000 years! Plenty to see with access from Shooters Hill and Eltham. Popular with dog walkers. You Can walk for miles through these ancient woodlands. Largely untouched by modern life. Really relaxing and tranquil area to wander.
A walk in Oxleas Wood was just what I needed. From the outdoor seating in and around the cafe area you can see miles into the distance, a great photo location. The changing relief turned a brisk walk into a good workout. I found it quite easy to park on the day too.
great place for dog walking - it's big enough that you can walk around it without seeing too many other people so you can walk peacefully. the cafes are really nice, severndroog castle cafe in particular has really friendly staff, and makes great cheese toasties.
Plenty of nice walks. The parking can be tricky Oxleas is worth a visit to get some peace and quiet.
Restrooms
Restrooms by the cafe.
Dog-friendliness
Other than the cafe, dogs are welcome in Oxleas Woods.
Picnic area
Plenty of picnic spots.
A lovely series of interlocking walks combining dappled woodland paths and open common spaces. The castle acts as a centre point, linking the Rose Gardens to the parking spaces. Popular with dog walkers. Bring wellington boots as it can get muddy under foot.
Wonderful place to explore amidst this neighbourhood near Donaldson Road. A huge woodland within distance. There is a nice little cafe where they serve hot meals and drinks including ice cream. This place is quite scenic to be honest. A hidden treasure.
Amazing views. Great open space and fantastic wood to walk in. We and the dog loved it. Wear your wellies if going in the woods! Parking is a bit stretched but got a space in the end. Cafe was cash only when we went. Would highly recommend.
Beautiful, calm and charming woods with an abundance of flora and birds. Lots of places to sit and view the panorama from the top before descending the steps and entering the woodland. Touches of early 20th century stonework here and there.
The woods is absolutely beautiful. There is a cafe, bar and toilets as you enter. The parking can be a little tricky as it is quite small but it is free! It is a lovely place to picnic and to just go for a walk I definitely would go back.
Wonderful woodland in South East London. It's off Shooters Hill Road, so is hilly. Oxleas park has great views to the South. A lovely place to spend time with lots of bird life and bats in the early evenings. Very popular with dog owners.
Beautiful scenery and provided good exercise. Easy to lose your bearings as very big but people are helpful and friendly and can point you back in the right direction. May not be great for those who do not like children or animals as it
Nice for dog walking. Open field and woodlands. Loads of wildlife. A great open air gym. Went with about two hours daylight left. Views of London and Dartford Bridge from its high position. Nice sunset on the way back to the car park.
The woods are great and ancient. The cafe is exactly what you need. Proper nice drinks and chips and classic puddings. I love coming here with the dog, the only issue is parking can be a bit hard sometimes and also it gets very muddy!
Ancient woodland remnant spread over slopes interspersed with broad ‘pathways’ allows ease of access even for the less agile to venture and explore. Sporadic underbrush clusters allows for off piste diversions into a timeless realm.
Another wonderful park. What I really love of this place is that is quite wild. It is safe but many routes still allow you to see the real nature with a very small human contribution. Perfect place for a sunny day with your kids!
This place is HUGE. I go there every week and it is a peacefull and silent place. You can walk for a couple of hours without seen houses or cars. It is a very dog-friendly place, as they have plenty of space to run free, safely.
It's worth visiting for the lovely food in the cafe and the beautiful view. Lovely wood to get lost in. Tip. Follow the directions of the sun mid to late afternoon to steer you back to the café.lovely staff by the way.
Excellent woods with open areas for relaxing and enjoying the view. Great for amateur mountain biking, hiking, leisurely walks, picnics, and dog walking. Very easy to get to and you can easily spend half a day there.
Great place for taking a stroll with the pooch! The cafe is run by some lovely people, busy at the weekends though, obviously. This is one place in London that doesn't feel like your in London and its beautiful!
Great walk with the dog and friends. Cafe isn’t dog friendly but plenty of seating outside the fenced off area. Not sure what I would do if I was on my own with the dog and fancied a coffee?? Cakes are amazing!
Beautiful wooded area, with views that stretch for miles, great for dog walkers and for wooded walks by yourself or families, onside parking and a fantastic little cafe onside, all round great place to visit.
This is one of London's natural gems. A true green gap in this concrete jungle. Take a book. Take a camera. Take walk. You won't be disappointed. Your dog will love it! Instagram: @daps.photographic
What a wonderful nature gem in south east London. Beautiful forest With small coffee shop. Perfect place for walk with the dog or to spend quality time away from hustle and hustle of the big city.
To go place if you have urgent need of nature! Amazing walk, beautiful sites. There's a cafe there you can grab a drink or a bite.

Amazing fields.
Lovely place to go, good cafe and great views over London. Ideal place to walk you dog. Toilets were open and clean. Cafe only seems to take cash when I visited. There was plenty of parking.
Beautiful place, lots of trees as well as green spaces. A firm favourite of dog owners. Has free parking available, though it can get quite busy. The car park closes at 6pm.
Beautiful woods, so big you can have a solitary wander and get a little piece of calm. Has the bonus of a cafe with fantastic views once you are ready to rejoin humanity.
Lovely place for a walk with plenty of on road parking. Ancient woodland with some amazing old twisted trees and a large field (Oxleas meadow). Popular with dog walkers.
Lovely long walking space, trails are well signe posted. My dumb self somehow got lost there, I would say be careful but I don't think many people would do what I did
Great little woodland if you are in South East London, plenty of free parking available and a decent cafe to enjoy a coffe while looking over Welling and beyond.
These woods has a splendid charm to it. Comfortable walking paths and wide variety of trees throughout. Suitable for jogging and cross country cycling.
One of my top favourite places in the Borough. I've been here countless of times, I love coming here for the walking routes and the view!
Beautiful view across South London. You can walk through the woods and enjoying the silence. There is a parking lot and also a cafeteria.

This is quite special because of Severndroog Castle. Definitely worth a visit. Going to the rooftop only costs £3. There’s also a café
Beautiful forest with nice views of Kent from the cafe on the top of the hill. Rose garden, castle and multiple paths to walk around.
The dog loves this place. Mixture of ancient and modern woodland and a huge grassy expanse. Nice cafe atop the hill for after too.
The woods are lovely. The cafe is good (very busy which puts me off a little but can't criticise them for success) Free parking.
Great woods, most dogs we meet are well behaved and have good owners. Lovely in the spring with wild flowers and birds song
Gorgeous spot of nature well maintained. Coffee, free car park woodpeckers, parrots and sticks.. What sticks woods …
Beautiful. Wooded area and grassy areas with plenty of benches. Cafe serving food and drinks. Plenty of parking.
I visited here in February. This is joined to multiple woodland areas and is a good place for walking.
It's a splendidly green lung in London's increasing battle with the curse of the creeping concrete.
Lovely place to walk the dogs. Has a cafe and open field, as well as the woods to roam around in
Amazing place! Nice forest to take your dog for a walk and enjoy time with friends and family
Beautiful park and wood.... and the food at the cafe shop is good and the right price....
