"Home of the $5 cup of regular coffee"
"This coffee is all I’ve been talking about since I tried it for the first time yesterday (and then again today"
"Just moved to the Portland area so I've been searching for a roaster, really love what I've been getting from these guys"
"I visited this coffee shop with a friend for the first time over the weekend and had a lovely experience! I ordered one of the drinks on their menu, the Mister Fox and it was delightful! The barista, Emma, asked me if I would like it hot or cold and I appreciated being offered the choice"
"Today was my first experience with Push x Pull, and I've come away impressed, not just content! I chose an oat milk mocha today as a combination of a classic preparation and an alternative/occasionally finicky milk substitute, because I'm cutting down on dairy and also as an 'acid test' for overall experience"
Home of the $5 cup of regular coffee. Granted the breakdown is $4 plus a minimum $1 tip you are socially pressured into with the ipad choices of $1, $2, $3, but the reality is you're paying $5 for a 12oz cup of drip at this place unless you're a total tight wad. Sure, it's inflation they say... but sorry... it costs about $.25 to make coffee at home. I don't see how the privilege of going into yet another ticky tacky no character industrial wannabe hipster joint with attitude (if you don't match the part, don't expect to be loved here) is worth a quite literally 2000% markup. Other than that the coffee is tasty enough to get the second star, but no where no as good as when I make it at home with the bonus of not having to feel like I'm in an oversized aquarium. Speaking of which... Portland, what the heck happened to the old Portland where this type of crapola would never fly east of 23rd?!
This coffee is all I’ve been talking about since I tried it for the first time yesterday (and then again today.) I just cannot believe it has taken me so long to discover this incredible coffee! Push X Pull specializes in the exact type I love, natural process with serious fruity notes. Both baristas who have made my pourovers, Rick and Jillian (who are super helpful and friendly,) produced undeniably perfect cups. There are many great coffee shops in Portland, but only two stand out as “next level”, in my opinion, as far as the quality of their pour over goes. Proud Mary and Push X Pull. Since I live in SE, Push X Pull is now my new favorite, and I am beyond excited to have found a cup that makes me this happy. FWIW, I had an Ethiopian natural process both times, because that’s generally my fave, but I’ll be trying one of their other offerings on my next visit. Easy 5 stars!
Just moved to the Portland area so I've been searching for a roaster, really love what I've been getting from these guys. I'm always seeking out shops that source more interesting beans and nowhere else in town have I found such interesting varieties. I'm currently brewing their yellow bourbon anaerobic from Brazil, so fruit-forward and sweet. So unique! As a coffee shop PUSH X PULL is also world-class, certainly among the upper crust of coffee shops. I'm a cappuccino drinker so I look for well-textured milk and an extraction that brings out the fruitiness and sweetness of coffee and their baristas always hit the mark. I like that they always tell me what is currently in their grinder. Anyway I'm a huge fan and hope that one day they open a location further east so I can visit more often!

I visited this coffee shop with a friend for the first time over the weekend and had a lovely experience! I ordered one of the drinks on their menu, the Mister Fox and it was delightful! The barista, Emma, asked me if I would like it hot or cold and I appreciated being offered the choice. :) They had some chairs outside and my friend and I took advantage of the sunny day. I also went back in and spoke with Paul (I believe was his name) about buying a bag of coffee to make cold brew at home and he was so knowledgeable and took the time to show me some products and explain them to me! The customer service was fantastic overall, product was great, both at the coffee shop and when I made it at home. This is the most fragrant and tasteful coffee I've ever had, and I can't wait to get more! I'll be back!
Today was my first experience with Push x Pull, and I've come away impressed, not just content! I chose an oat milk mocha today as a combination of a classic preparation and an alternative/occasionally finicky milk substitute, because I'm cutting down on dairy and also as an 'acid test' for overall experience. Highlights include: high quality ingredients, good non-dairy options, and pleasant, engaging, diligent staff that exercise real craft in hand-making your beverage of choice. Good natural light, unassuming but intentional decor and one of the cleanest prep spaces I've seen round out my first impressions. Well done Emma and Natalie... It was a pleasure meeting you both!
The previous review about the pricing, wait, and drunk employee is demonstrably false. For example, they don’t serve dessert and you can check that the pricing is on par with other upper tier establishments. The reason it’s five stars is because of their focus on unique coffees, particularly natural process coffees. Like all great restaurants and cafés, Push X Pull is excellent because the proprietor has amazing taste. Not just in coffee, but in the aesthetics and design of the space. I’ve been a regular since it opened and I keep going back because I love the rotating variety of interesting beans and the people who work there.
I don't live in town but this place is so good I always come multiple times a trip whenever I'm in Portland. I'm a guy who will camp out in a shop for an hour or two (pre-covid) to get work done or read, so lighting and aesthetic of a shop is HUGE for me. Wow does Push x Pull deliver. They've got natural lighting for days and a range of options from window seating to a big table and plenty of bench space. Also, the staff is highly knowledgeable about all aspects of coffee, and they make it very accessible to customers. It's a great blend between being a shop for both coffee nerds and casual drinkers alike.
Not bad, but not quite deserving of the breathless reviews. The espresso is totally decent, if a bit on the sour side. Same with the coffee. I understand the taste differences among the blends, but this had the slight sour tang of gas station coffee. The interior is a little cluttered, but not overly messy. The chairs are cool, but incredibly wobbly and uncomfortable. The WiFi is functional. Nice Alt Rock and Indie playlist. In short, it's not bad. Worth a visit, but definitely not among the top 10 coffeeshops in Portland. I feel like a lot of these reviewers come from cities with bad coffee.
I've traveled the world and have been to nearly every specialty coffee shop in Portland...[I also work in the competition coffee circuit so I've seen and tasted the best of the best!] and PushXPull has been a standout cafe - one of my favorites in Portland and in the world. The staff and ownership are kind, welcoming, unpretentious, and have created an inclusive community. The coffee is fantastic, they pay fair prices to those who produce their coffee, and pre-covid it's the kind of shop I could sit in all day and enjoy a comfortable and friendly place to work on my laptop. HIGHLY recommend.
Update (Oct 2021): During my trip to Portland, I had a great cup of latte at Push X Pull. Great coffee, friendly barista and bright space make it a wonderful place to stay inside for a little bit when it rains outside. Original (Feb 2021): I stumbled upon Push x Pull a while ago and had an excellent latte. Really dig their vibe, there is a mixture and contrast of calm and exuberance. It feels very urban, fits well into its artsy neighborhood and attracts a trendy crowd. I marked it on my maps to come back one day but now I'll have to leave it for my next Portland trip.
coffee was good but customer service was mid. i asked for an iced latte and a hot one was made… the response i got after I mentioned that i had ordered an iced coffee and not a hot one..… well unfortunately was also not hot. The overpriced bread egg and cheese sandwich was also mid. My friend ordered a cold brew and was forgotten about until she mentioned something after about four drinks were made… Barista looked like he hated his job lol

Always an awesome experience here. I see them universally treat people with respect, kindness, patience, all while being ready and willing to educate people on the wide world of coffee. Always fun to talk about whatever beans I’m grabbing with the peeps, I genuinely think they roast some of the best beans in town, have some of the best hospitality, in an awesome space. If you really love coffee, you will love Push X Pull. If you’re new to speciality coffee, this is a great place to start. 10/5 Also the staff ROCK!!!!
I travel the world. Push X Pull is one of my favorite shops anywhere. The service, decor, coffee, space, everything about this place is on point. Get there!! This is a Portland gem. Portland is known for its incredible coffee scene and boasts some of the most insightful coffee luminaries, most successful cafes, and shops that freckle the city in a higher per capita ratio than almost any other North American city. Push X Pull is one of the very best of the very best. It is worth traveling to Portland for. Go there.
Their coffee can be quite good but is somewhat inconsistent. Espresso has always been great. Drip is hit or miss. Cold brew is mostly miss. Generally not an ideal place to work from. The space seems designed more for social media pics than for customer comfort. The rolling chairs look like vintage school furniture; cute, but not fun to sit in. Counter seating is usually so sunny that it’s blinding and basically unusable. The boxy space, high ceilings, and blasting music make for noise, noise, noise.
Very hip cafe with a quiet atmosphere that's conducive to a focused work environment. Come here to drink coffee and use your laptop in peace; the bar comes highly recommended if your going solo, but for couples there's a cute booth corner with a shelf of cassettes to listen to, and if you have a big group and you need to have a meeting, they have a long table with lots of seating to accommodate your party.

Phenomenal customer service from the two baristas behind the counter! Unfortunately it’s somewhat rare in specialty coffee that the service is at this level and it’s always reassuring to enter a space and be welcomed enthusiastically! I tried to naturals on drip. Both were really clean! If I have one thing to suggest it would be to create more accommodating seating for customers. While the chairs are really cool they’re quite uncomfortable and designed for someone around 120 lbs!
Push x Pull is consistently friendly, consistently quality. This shop holds a special place in the community. You can tell they have a real sense of purpose about what they do, both with coffee and with service. I’m biased because I started coming here so often that it became like a home away from home, but I can tell that everyone who walks in feels truly welcomed. Even their plants are happy. Come for great coffee, stay for great humans and vibes.
These guys have a flare for the weird and outstanding when it comes to their roasts. After my apparent excitement at hearing they had a honey process coffee on hand, my barista (owner?) explained to me they almost always have one in hand. That alone will keep me checking in on them whenever I visit Portland. The shop has a great vibe with its mix of pastel colors and black and their roaster sitting just off the counter. Highly recommended
What a delightful place. Chris and staff are fantastic, and I cannot wait to travel again and come in for amazing coffee. I’ve seen many troll reviews here and I will say this, 1) this is a private business and they can refuse to serve hateful people just as y’all demanded that bakers be able to decline LGBTQ cake orders. 2) then go get your coffee and read Breitbart elsewhere and stop spamming a small, local business, 3) switch to decaf.
Checking out the Central Eastside aIndustrial District and went to Push X Pull (pronounced Push Pull). This place has been around for 6 years. They’re a little pricey but their one of the top rated coffee roaster in one of the best coffee cities in the country. First time trying. Got a bag of The Brixbreaker Nanolot beans (Nicaragua) and a bag of Julia Lina Reis (Brazil) plus an Apple Bobbin’ Jeans Latte
The smells of fresh roasted coffee from the in house roasting team and equipment pushed and pulled me into this cool spot on Stark! I had a double of incredible espresso, the Ethiopian was bright and energizing for a late morning/mid day pull! Cool workspace and lounge area for those looking to get a little work done while enjoying the coffee shop vibes! Looking forward to my next visit already ✨✨✨
Found this place on a coffee a blog as one of the “best coffee shops” in Portland and I wholeheartedly agree! The barista was helpful with recommendations and very friendly. The vibe was very relaxed and low key, with a great soft, indie playlist going. I ordered the Suzy (seasonal beverage) which was honey, cinnamon, and Himalayan sea salt! Delicious over ice and would recommend to a friend!
The employees have been very professional and nice every time, but the coffee is the highlight here. Every single time I’ve gotten coffee here it’s some of the best I’ve ever had. The blends are perfect in flavor, roast, and heat. Their cold brew is the strongest I’ve ever had and jacks me up all day. It’s always a special treat.

Been wanting to try this place and am really glad I did. I will definitely be back. The breakfast sando doesn't look like much, but it tastes incredible. Got my son a waffle and that was also tasty. Would love to try more of their coffees!

the BEST coffee shop in portland (dare I say the pacific northwest?). They take COVID seriously and the new subscription coffee option is fantastic. My fiancé has been getting the subscription once a month (we live in NYC) and when it comes in it is so fresh and smells fantastic. 10/10 would recommend. As soon as it is safe to travel again we’ll be coming back!
Today's experience warrants cinco estrellas! The Suzy is a satiating latte and lovely find. A barista took the time during this Sunday morning's visit by answering my questions about the wines and beans displayed on their sharply designed shelf. I left wiser, with a spring in my step, and look forward to returning. Merci. Gracias. Danke. Shukran. Thank you!
Pour over coffee is slightly acidic and soooo delicious. Pour over for here option can be refilled once. They have free Wi-Fi and seats are also good to meet your friends, work, study whatever. I want to try the foods next time!

Bright, sunny, local coffee shop where the owner often is behind the counter. Super friendly spot with delicious beverages, but not so much offerings on the food side, just small sweet bites. Good place to hang with your laptop or catch up with friends. Great branding and simple, straightforward execution. Be a regular- they will remember you!
Timed street parking that’s not to hard to find. Lots of natural lighting, and nice space inside to study or work. Chill atmosphere, and the baristas are super nice! I ordered an iced honey latte; it was good. I’d come back here again as it’s reliable and pleasant for studying, easy and free to park, and a well-priced good latte!
This was my study spot 2-3x / week for a little over a month. I’m just a drip guy, so I’ll leave the other reviewers to comment on their other offerings. Super friendly staff and consistently excellent coffee. I buy their beans, too, and if you get a chance to pickup some of their smaller batch stuff, don’t hesitate.
Push X Pull has the safest, most inviting vibes I've encountered in specialty coffee. I'm comforted by the way folks of all walks of life seem to find care and belonging here, as well as a kickass cup of coffee. The humans running the shop are so knowledgable and attentive. Can't wait for my next oat cappuccino!
My husband and I have visited Push X Pull many times. We have always been met with exceptional customer service and delicious coffees. If you are a coffee nerd and like trying coffees with different processing methods, that's most of their menu. You can find fruity, fun coffees and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
This shop is spacious, beautiful, and bright with plentiful seating. I recommend their coffee to anyone. When I visited they had an exciting natural process ethiopian coffee option for brewed coffee. The baristas here are friendly, talented, and you can trust them to make you a great drink.
I came here by recommendation for great coffee. Our coffees were bunt, over-extracted, way too hot, and served in clunky mugs—coffee tasted like a lot of unclean gunk in the equipment. Staff was dismissive. No tasting notes provided on menu, bags of beans, or from staff. Pretentious vibe.
This shop is absolutely exceptional. The staff is amazing, they are true coffee nerds in the best way. Their drinks are always amazing and prepared with such attention to detail. Plus the chocolate chip cookies are damn good. If you like good coffee, you are missing out by not going here.
Space was not cozy at all, an industrial space with uncomfortable chairs. The chai I got didn't taste flavorful and was not very hot . My barista was friendly enough but the other person working there had an attitude. Not a place I would like to visit again.
It's rare you can get fantastic coffee without the snobbery. I stumbled on this place from out of town and was so pleasantly surprised. The staff was great, the owners were great, the product was great, the space was great... shoot, it was just really great.
Believe it or not, lots of baristas just don’t froth Oatmilk worth mentioning. But the baristas at this spot did it artfully well. Solid espresso drinks, lovely light and airy environment with tons of natural lighting and seating with a great aesthetic.
Seriously some of the BEST COFFEE in Portland you will ever taste. Chris and his crew are amazing, super friendly and accommodating. Very welcoming cafe space and typically open seating if you need to work or study. Would highly recommend!!!
Best macchiato I’ve ever had in my life. There are a lot of good coffee shops in Portland, but this place is a step above and to top it off they always have incredible service. A nice change from a scene that can be a bit snooty...
Spacious, airy coffee shop with welcoming staff. Large floor to ceiling windows let in a lot of natural light. The space has more of an industrial feel than feeling warm and cozy, but had a nice vibe The Suzy was a great latte!
The staff is really kind and the cold brew is delicious, super strong and fresh every time. They have some outdoor seating available if you're like me and don't feel comfortable eating indoors yet due to COVID.
First of all, great coffee! I always order a vanilla late and it tastes amazing. Secondly, staff is always friendly and caring! Beside coffee, I really like their CBD drinks. Stop by and try it for yourself!
Excellent coffee, knowledgeable staff (thanks for the great conversation and cortado, Emma and Paul!), and a relaxing environment. Push X Pull is consistently one of my favorite coffee shops in Portland.
A bright and beautiful coffee shop that exudes an industrial yet warm and inviting vibe. Love the large windows, rad furniture, and subtle design details. My oat milk Mister Fox latte was super tasty!
Maybe the best cortado I have ever had. I got it in two of their bean varieties, letting the barista choose for me. Their espresso is dialed in, vibes are relaxed. It’s a busy spot and it’s clear why!
One of my favorite cafes in the city because of the quality. Push Pull's roasts are exceptional, and the baristas take care in dialing them in. I have had some of the best espresso of my life here.
Hello Macchiato - This place is super chill, with excellent coffee and feels like a Portland neighborhood hub. Founders also do great work with PDX Community Orgs - All things AWESOME!
Cute space and the barista was very friendly! My matcha didn’t taste much like a matcha though. Would be 5 stars if I didn’t have to pay 6.25 for a cup of warm oat milk.
These folks are the bomb. Ryan gave me some stellar customer service. The other guy makes the best Lattes on planet earth. 5 stars on the people, 5 stars on the coffee.
For those who care about a good cup of black coffee, this place is legit. Had some drip and got a bag of Honduras. The bag delivered on the flavor notes it described.
It is amazing to meet two friends who decided to go all in and did an excellent job! Tasty coffee, beautifully space, the Best Tea (sorry jej)... again amazing team!
Delicious coffee!! Omg! The barista was also amazing and talked to me about their cool espresso machine and where I should visit on my travel down the coast!
Best coffee I’ve had in a long time. Also, best designed coffee shop I’ve seen in a long time. Breaky sammy is heavenly. Baristas are legit pros. BRAVO!
What a great find! Push X Pull made one of the best cappuccinos I've had in this city! Absolutely divine. It's a very urban vibe which I also love.
I go here all the time. The coffee is amazing, the baristas are super knowledgeable and so friendly. Also the lighting is great. 5 stars all round.
We had an espresso tonic and an iced mocha and both were phenomenal and the barista was knowledgeable in the recommendation and very nice.
The espresso here was really good! Though it seemed a little bit more expensive than most other places for just a shot of espresso.
Push X Pull is a great coffee shop that knows what they are doing! Great coffee great people with a great atmosphere!
Push X Pull is a great coffee shop that knows what they are doing! Great coffee great people with a great atmosphere!
Normal pricing but really good drinks. The tumeric milk was great, so is the chai (they do both iced and hot).
Craft coffee done well. Roaster located jn the shop. Classy and clean presentation. Highly recommend.
Great coffee. Friendly staff, and you can tell they love coffee as much as the customers.
Absolutely amazing coffee. One of the smoothest espressos I have had in a long time.
Good atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing cooks brew.
