It's difficult to find an actual table service Chinese restaurant these days, much less one with an actual Chinese language menu, so we were excited to try the homestyle authentic Chinese dishes at Panda's Den! There are also pictures and we had the help of a translation app. Hot tea came in a familiar metal pot and small cups for $1.95/person, and rice in a big bowl. Our unanimous favorite dish was the eggplant with shrimp (P10)--thick slices of the long Chinese eggplant in a delicious garlic sauce. Other recommendations are the salt and pepper fish (P8) and Pork Udon (P18). They also had stewed egg 滷蛋 and tofu (G19), but they were a bit salty. The Sa Cha green beans (G8) were good, and only $6.95. The crab Seafood soup is a big bowl for sharing and has a decent amount of shrimp and scallops, with some crab, underneath the egg white layer on top.

The restaurant was definitely clean, and had a very busy takeout business. It wasn't particularly to our tastes. Everything was sort of bland, even the items that we purchased that were marked spicy. The meat in the orders was a little bit squishy, and the beef look the same in the beef and broccoli and the other beef entrees just the sauce was different. The sesame chicken appeared to have been deep-fried earlier and then possibly warmed or kept warm then sauce put on it and serve to us. If chicken is deep fried and then brought to your table it should be very warm or hot, this was not. Service was good and perhaps it's just to Charlotte taste but we found that Panda Express was spicier and had a little bit fresher vegetables than they did. Not bad, just not great. The biggest complaint was that they were cleaning with purple Fabuloso! And the over spray from the table tops, and the air smelled Very Strong! I'm glad they are cleaning for sure, but I should smell Chinese food rather than cleaning spray.

I was soooooo disapointed and sad last night after eating what I use to remember being the BEST CHINESE food in Charlotte 5 years ago. My co workers and I use to eat there at least 3 days a week because it was THAT good. But when I got home i was very disappointed in the flavor of the food. The shrimp in lobster sauce was missing a tad bit more seasoning and the poor baby shrimp I received (all 5 of them) were drowning ..... The rice...smh...egg fried rice....tasted old actually. My son wanted Mei Fun which is the stringy white noodles which wasn't on the menu but the gentleman up front said they could make it. Nope, they were pad thai noodles. The sesame chicken was decent, but again the rice, not so much. So sad to see my favorite place to eat let me down. I recognized a few familiar faces and of course their customer service is always great - but with that you need great food too..... Truly disappointed.

This is just one of very many places that are not the same as they used to be. 10 or 15 years ago this was one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area but the new liberal culture has driven that community and that restaurant down. With that said, we ordered hunan chicken and curry shrimp but they came out looking and tasting the same when they are supposed to be two completely different dishes. In addition to that, I just didn't get the freshness that I expected. The shrimp was battered and fried which I've never seen before in a curry dish and it tasted like it had been laying around for a while and reheated. I asked for extra spicy and the spice level was just right however there were tiny bits of peppers in there that were hard and unchewable. Had to spit them out. I ordered 10 piece donuts and was charged for it but only received 5. Sadly, I will not be back.

I usually love this place my go to Chinese restaurant but i am so deeply disappointed in how my food was prepared. I ordered the general tso chicken and shrimp thinking it was going to be a good shrimp to chicken ratio but only received 3 medium shrimps. Whomp.. I ask for them to fix it they said no because it only come with 3 (which they should put in writing on their menus) so then I tell them to just give me the shrimp and broccoli expecting the plate to be with the medium shrimps and broccoli like when you do takeout. No they bring me TINY SHRIMPS. I haven’t touched the plate and not paying for it. I will be going elsewhere for my food today. I’m giving four stars over this disgraceful situation. Other than this situation I usually do takeout and the prices are good and food is usually on point

Have always had good food and decent service, until last night. Placed takeout order for sweet and sour chicken, JUST the chicken - with NO vegetables. Got all the way home and found that they ignored the no vegetable specification. It was correct on the order printout, but the kitchen screwed up. Went all the way back and asked them to replace the food. Specifically asked for NEW chicken, not just to pick all the veggies and fruit out. When the manager brought me the food he assured me it was new chicken. When the kids got to the bottoms of the containers, they found chicken stained with cherry juice and tasting of bell pepper. The manager lied to me, they just picked out the vegetables. We used to eat there often. Not sure I'll go back again.

Some times dry doesn't fit the bill. Although good cooking results in bad taste. The dish my wife and I had was the seasame chicken a dish made only different by the cook but can be duplicated by the one teaching. In this case you can make it dry (no sauce, just coat) or wet meaning (plenty, almost swimming in sauce) then there is the pool you get the message. Well we got the dish home to find it dry. Result we both tossed are cookies. My wife said she would not got back, while I said it was good but we need to ask for what want. Now some Chinese restaurants do this they cook to order or will give you extra on the side. Don't go back to the one that gives you on the side The basmati rice was complete but had no flavor.

Christmas will always be busy at Chinese restaurants, I wish people would remember that and be understanding! The guy working was doing absolutely everything he could to keep everyone happy. I even witnessed someone clearly order shrimp fried rice, then try to say he ordered sesame chicken when it was ready in the midst of dozens of other orders coming in and going out. Staff maintained composure and did everything to fix the issue and be patient despite the customer being rude! Once our food came out and we took it home, it was so worth the wait. Absolute best general tso's chicken I've ever had, so flavorful. We'll definitely come back next time we're nearby!

  • vivek patel

Ordered take out and got the garlic chicken upgraded with special friend rice with a side of hot and sour soup. The soup was fire I would go back just for that alone. Garlic chicken was great too. The pork in the special fried rice looked a little lower quality but other than that everything was delicious. Had to wait a little bit at the front desk but they were probably short staffed. 10/10 would go back

I've enjoyed their House Special Fried Rice ever since I was a kid (almost 15 years and counting!), but the quality of their food has been lacking as of late. Maybe it's because I've been around more places and had better food here and there, but I miss that old feeling of having some comfort food when I don't feel like getting out of bed to make some food. Always friendly on the phone and even friendlier when I go to pick up my order. I said that the food leaves something to be desired, but it's not at all bad if you want some cheap Chinese-American food.

THE BEST EVER!! I have been patronizing Panda's Den for nearly 20 years. I used to live in Charlotte and would go at least 2x a month, mostly for lunch as the specials are so worth it. Now I live in Utah and have gone back at least 2x a year to indulge. I always get incredible service from a fine staff. My drinks are always full and the food is always HOT, always fast and ALWAYS INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS!! I don't think there is an item on the menu that disappoints. You will certainly not regret your coming here and enjoying some fantastic Chinese cuisine.

  • Tuwanda Jenkinson

The food was good but not as good as it use to be when we first started eating there about fifteen years ago. Bean curd over cooked. Prices are good for the amount of food you get. Update. We gave Pandas Den another try. What a Mistake!!! The food tasted like it was three days old. Dry, chewy and just awful. We couldn't eat it. Threw it away. What a waste of our money and time. Just close Pandas Den!!!

Best "Chinese food" in Charlotte's Garlic and broccoli Sesame tofu Veggi le Lo-mein Fried rice White rice If you want a nice comfort meal, I'd say this is a step above most, take-out American Chinese I've had in Charlotte. The owner is such a nice man, a pillar of the community, his restraunt is decorated with all his contributions to the community surrounding it. If you are sleeping on garlic and broccoli, it's a great meal from these types of places that doesn't make you feel guilty about eating it, you should try it.

  • Heather

I've been coming here since I was little. I'm 25 now and this place is still the best Chinese food I've ever had. Hunan Chicken and vegetable with brown rice is awesome. At lunch and dinner they give you enough food to share with someone else and prices are very reasonable. Whenever my parents come or just me and my boyfriend, we always share a plate. Drinks never go empty. And the little fried chips and homemade duck sauce are on point. My favorite place to eat, I eat here so much the staff knows us :)

  • Doug Francavilla

Went here as a kid growing and didn't return for over 15 years. Recently moved much closer and we go here regularly. The food is always hot and comes out fast. The portions are huge and we can always make it into two meals and sometimes a small third which really adds to the value of this place. I've had several menu items and they are all good. No better Chinese restaurants in the area. The owner is always there and always nice to everyone I see him interact with. Knows lots of people/regulars.

Panda's Den is one more excellent Chinese Restaurant. I only discovered this fine establishment a few months ago and now it is my go to Chinese restaurant. For me, egg rolls are a testament to any Oriental eating and Panda's Den has fantastic egg rolls. Large and full of good stuff. Not the cheapest place, but if cheap is what you seek, expect the quality to suffer. This place has truly tasty food and I am still looking for my favorite. So far, the dishes have all been wonderful.

  • Logan Laxton

Everytime we come to Charlotte we make it a priority to eat at Pandas den! I grew up down the street and we are here all the time. The fantastic food is served family style and the service is amazing. They have servers watching the tables to make sure you never run out of drinks. The people there are always so very friendly. Nice comfortable atmosphere in the dining area, the only thing is the bathrooms could use some updating. But overall awesome place for great chinese food.

  • Ben W

Very hyper efficient front desk person. Wants your money and zero small talk. Nothing here I ordered was very good. Beef fried rice and shrimp fried rice lacked any kind of flavor. You really have to doctor it with judicious amounts of various sauces for it to be palatable. The only bright spot at this joint is their fried wings. They’re very good. If I ever come back I’ll come for the fried wings.

We ate Panda Den last night based on the google reviews. The food took about 30 minutes before it was ready vs. 15 minutes. My husband ordered spicy tofu which was bland and a bit slimy and he was not happy. My youngest son ordered chicken wings and fried rice but the wings were more like wingettes (very small and questionable). My shrimp egg foo yung was pretty good and my oldest son's sesame chicken was good. I don't think we will be back anytime soon.

  • Jie Chang

The owner is very welcoming, warm and super nice. I always went to this place for Rice with stewed minced pork (卤肉饭), quite authentic! I remembered sometimes when I ordered pick-up, he would provide some side dishes for free. I was so touched as by then I was a student. Highly recommend this place! Now I moved out of town, but will definitely visit there if I have a chance back to Charlotte.

After being a loyal customer for over 10 years I will no longer be back after tonight. I placed a to go order and the man on the phone said 10 minutes. I got to the restaurant well after the 10 minute time and they had not even started on my order. I could understand if they were busy but there was absolutely no one in the restaurant not a single customer and now I know why. So beware evidently 19 minutes means 45 to the people at Pandas Den.

  • Obsidian Onyx

The person who answered the call was rude, abrupt, and seemed as if the customer was a bother. Hopefully, one day the management understands that irrespective if the food is tasty or indulgent, just the mere fact that customer service is poor quality, the business Will never survive. Food for thought. Be kind and respectful; otherwise, find another service industry. 1 star, because I have hope that there will be room for improvement

  • Dave

Hands down the best Chinese food anywhere. The waiters are stellar you can't empty your drink without a refill being poured emedately. Food is fast and delicious. At Christmas they jave a tree inside as big as you have ever seen every year. It seriously goes through the cealing. It's never crowded and if you have never been ots so worth the trip. We have driven from two counties over just for diner here.

Look no further if you want some great Chinese food! The staff are very kind and the food is delicious! The prices are affordable and the owner always comes by to make sure you are enjoying your meal. I've been coming here for 4 years and have never had a problem. During the holidays, they put up a giant Christmas tree! This place is perfect for couples.

  • Jaleesa M

Maybe I ordered something different than those that posted wonderful reviews. The chicken lo mein was dry and nasty, the dumplings had a weird taste and the chicken wings looked more like they were taken from a baby bird. Nothing tasted good and I'm upset that I wasted my money at this restaurant. I, personally, would not reccomend.

  • Ken Herring

If you find yourself on the east side of Charlotte and craving good Chinese food, Panda's Den is a must. The food is great, the portions are very generous and the quality is outstanding. I have never been disappointed or dissatisfied with their food. Good service + great food = must try. As the saying goes "try it, you'll like it."

  • Andy Spivey

Waiters come around too often? Who complains about that? At most restaurants they don't come around enough. I've been going to this restaurant for 15 years and it is top notch! You can't beat the value for your money, and if you dine in you will never have to worry about your drink getting more than half empty.

  • Ann-Marie Becker

First off the shrimp are the size of pennies.... Shrimp with broccoli in garlic sauce should have medium to large shrimp. The Fried chicken Wings are NOT WINGS.... it’s fried drummettes that you get frozen from a grocery store. Very disappointed in the quality especially in comparison with the cost.

  • Naulte' “Sir Naulte'” Frieson

I've. Been coming here for years if not decades the prices are always great the food is awesome n very fulfilling the place itself always stay clean no aruging bout that. The only thing I'm disappointed on is your wings n shrimp have become so small and it's not what I'm used to them being.

Your crave for Chinese food can be satisfied here at a great price and quick service. Dine in or take out. Just like any other establishment as gives you good portions and that classic Chinese food taste that you want. Anything on the menu you will not be disappointed.

Love this restaurant. The one thing I can always be counted upon is knowing my Chinese restaurants and this place is my favorite to get the best food! Not only the food, but the service is great. They even gifted me a bamboo made calendar for the many times I've gone!

The rice was good and the chicken wings were good. I had some broccoli that was not pleasant and some ribs that were very sparse for the price and burnt black and hard on the end. Could not eat the end of the ribs. The food is pricey for the quality.

  • Chrissy Kiker

Always good food and friendly staff. Their carry out is now super fast since there is no dine in option, due to Covid. Feel free to picnic in their parking lot. They have some trees with good shade and plenty of space in the grass near parking lot.

We have been coming here for years! I love the triple green and sweet and sour chicken with the sauce on the side. The food is fresh, no MSG and real chicken breast meat! The only thing that has changed are the wings. They used to be much bigger.

  • Roberta Rodriguez

I am very disappointed with Panda Den!! They gave me fake rice and microwaved spare ribs I like mine broiled not microwaved till they are dry and inedible. Very disappointed. But the egg rolls are ok. The service is good and staff friendly.

  • Elise Pentz

I had high hopes for this place. The owner is so polite and pleasant but I have yet to find a Chinese place in charlotte that can even compare to up north. We ended up tossing lo mein, chicken and broccoli, dumplings, and soup.

Awesome eggrolls they were stuffed full of fresh cabbage! Rice was very fresh and sticky. Service was perfect. They took our order at 955 pm and were happy to pack extra fortune cookies and chop sticks. We will be back!
