Be careful and Be Careful There are two side of the Park Station. The combi/mini bus Side and the Bus Station(Main Station side). These are two places of two extermes: the safe side and the unsafe side. Last year I took a mini bus from Botswana to Joburg. And we arrived around 9pm. Its was not so safe and most of the other commuters did not where to alight or catch a taxi. The driver was not helpful as he only spoke Zulu/Ndebele and did not care about the passengers. And we arrived by the mini bus side. It was hectic. Every "self appointed navigator" wanted a piece ofsomeone and you could see that some were just thugs. And I knew where I wanted to go but because it was late I trusted one guy. Fortunately he could speak English. And to really buy my trust he said we should pass by the Main staion(safe side) as people might attack us. he was friendly and I believed him. Until we got to the dark side of the road and he asked for money! I gave him R20 as agreed, but he became furious and demanded more. I gave him 200pula , he wanted more. I gave him 200 rands, I was terrified and he wanted more, until I ran away back to main station (safe side). It was an ugly scene. Fortunately I took a meter taxi and went to the hotel. So in Joburg always be careful. Do not trust anyone. Aways use Uber and you can trust them 80%. Please learn a few Zulu words so that you can say no. Never act like a visitor. Never tell them you are a foreigner. Act like a local. Never wear fancy clothes. Avoid taking pictures opf everything as this will attract thieves. Be careful
First-time visitor here. I'm a strong proponent of public transport. I was excited to take the Gautrain from OR Tambo to Park Station and planned on an Uber to my lodging. On exiting Park Station, I immediately felt a bad vibe. I felt unsafe. I took out my phone to order Uber. Someone across the road screamed over traffic, put your phone away now! Phone thieves are everywhere. Google and Uber did not say, Uber does not pick-up Park Station. An 'area security' guard (that ought to be a tip right there) recognized a problem and escorted me about two blocks to the Uber point. Do yourselves a favour, skip Park Station. Quite honestly, I'd say skip Johannesburg!
Good place for your trip but the place is terrible, everybody is trying to scam you when you on your way to the bus. Trolly boys ask for extremely high amounts of money to take your bags to the bus, guys act like they working for the bus service then want to charge you. Be very cautious when there and always ask if they charge before getting help.
The porters and taxi/uber drivers in JHB Park Station make your travel a nightmare one instead. Every 2 steps someone asks you where are you going, if you need transport and I personally feel agitated by this act. I believe every traveler plan ahead for their trip. The management for this station needs to do something about this.
I was a bit nervous when I arrived. However everyone I spoke to was very helpful. As long as you stay alert you will be fine. The porters are very pushy just firmly say no and move on. As a single woman I safely traveled on Eldo Coaches. No pics as I was not comfortable with taking out my cell phone though many others did.
Rubbish! We missed our bus to Mpumalanga. You'll use the intercom to call employees to come to the office. Why cant you guys use that intercom to announce when a certain bus has arrived and which section passengers must go. No water in the toilets No toiletpaper.
Very unsafe. The security is weak, there are scammer making you pay a lot of money for trolling you to bus. The maintenance is very bad, escalators have not been working for more that two years. otherwise there are restaurants to grab a meal before your trip.
The best place to get buses to another province. There are taxi ranks situated around the complex. Variable stores are available, mainly fast food establishments and banks. Be cautious in and around this place as it is a metropolitan area.
No lights in the station. Too dark to go to the toilets. You have to ask a lot of times to make sure to get to the right bus. None of the parking booms or paying machines work. I did't see security.
Nice upgrade. Central hub to go anywhere in Southern Africa cheaply. Slow trains, fast trains, busses. Get there and get to your mode of transport. Don't dawdle. And don't tempt by being flashy.
Terrible terrible service and customer service. I am booked on the 2130 to Durban. It is 2140 now and we are still waiting to board a bus, whiamountamount
Friendly place to be but as is the case everywhere in Joburg, never trust strangers. If u want to know, ask Police or security members
Overall good place to to go everywhere. Ps keep you belongings safe …
Organized. Clean. Easy navigation. But be very safety cautious.
Park station is always busy, as buses operate everyday.
It was good, but there is that sense of feeling unsafe.
